Austrian Alps Since 2008, 36 villages in Central Europe’s Eastern Alps have banded together to promote their communities to the travelers in the world who are interested in mountain hiking, biking, and climbing, as well as winter sports like cross-country skiing and ice climbing. The villagers put great emphasis on green mountain tourism. For example, they refuse large tourist projects like huge ski sites and cable cars. Hikers usually stay in farmers’ houses and try traditional foods after a long day in the mountains. Longmen Grottoes Running for about 1,000 meters along the Yi River in China’s Henan Province and carved between the 5th and 8th centuries, Longmen Grottoes features over 2,300 caves which are home to more than 100,000 Buddha (佛像) statues. As one of the four most famous grottoes in China, it offers invaluable information about the politics, economy, and spirituality of its time. Appian Way If all roads lead to Rome, this ancient highway built 2,300 years ago is the mother of them all. Stretching for 360 miles from the heart of Italy’s capital to the seaport of Brindisi on the Adriatic, the ancient road, which symbolizes the ups and downs of the Roman Empire, has been rebuilt for modern travelers, with stops at scenic villages and historical sites. Hadrian’s Wall Starting to be built in the second century, Hadrian’s Wall once marked the rule of the Roman Empire in the UK. Things have changed over the past two thousand years. But the 73-mile-long wall continues to attract visitors. This year, soldiers dressed in Roman uniforms will once again patrol (巡逻) along the rebuilt wall. 21. What is the destination in Austrian Alps known for? A. Sea beaches. B. Local foods. C. Huge skiing sites. D. Modern hotels. 22. When was the earliest cave in Longmen Grottoes built? A. In the second century. B. In the fourth century. C. In the fifth century. D. In the eighth century. 23. What do the last two attractions have in common? A. They are located in the UK. B. They connect the capital to the seaport. C. They were used by the army. D. They are related to the Roman Empire. B “I have a cold. I’m supposed to be going away with a friend in 10 days but I’m worried I won’t be well enough. What do I do? Should I tell her now or leave it and see what happens?” A few years ago, this is the sort of question I would have taken to my mum or a friend. The sort of question where you’re pretty sure you know the answer but you just want a bit of reassurance. Today I sat with this question for a few minutes and then took it to ChatGPT. Because somehow that’s what I do now. So far this month I have asked ChatGPT to advise on my workout plan, to get me out of a delaying habit, to analyze my Hinge (约会软件) profile, to write a presentation for me, to rewrite an email because I wasn’t sure of the wording, to find a piece of research I half remembered and to sense check a pitch I was doing. I’m sure there’s more but I’d have to ask ChatGPT for a full list because I don’t trust my memory. I’ve been on a journey with AI but now I’m at the point where I allow it to be my first port of call whenever things are slightly uncomfortable, when I’m seeking reassurance. And it’s here I think the problem lies. ChatGPT has become my emotional regulator and just like that my life is easier but I’m also starting to lose my sense of clarity. Just as sailors stopped relying on the stars when radar became available, so I’ve stopped relying on my intuition now that a robot has stepped in. You see, I knew the answer to most of the things I asked it this month but I wanted reassurance. And that feels bad. I don’t know if AI is making us lazy or stupid or dependent but I do know it’s making me less sure of myself. And I also know that I didn’t spend this long learning to listen to my own intuition rather than the demands of a patriarchal society, just to hand that wisdom over to a man-made robot. 24. What did the author do years ago when in doubt? A. She waited till the end. B. She asked her mum or a friend. C. She looked online right away. D. She tried things on her own. 25. What did she use ChatGPT for this month? A. Tech problems and music. B. Trip planning and research paper. C. Language learning and workout plan. D. Dating profile and presentation draft. 26. What does the underlined words “emotional regulator” in paragraph 4 mean? A. Controlling feelings. B. Improving logic. C. Storing memory. D. Processing data. 27. What can we infer about the author from paragraph 5? A. She feels less confident. B. She trusts her intuition more than AI. C. She uses AI only for small things. D. She fears AI’s replacement of human advice. C All but two of Austria’s 96 glaciers (冰川) have retreated (缩小) over the last two years, the monitors in the Alpine country reported on Friday, saying the “dramatic development” highlights the impact of climate change. The latest report from the Austrian Alpine Club shows the Alpeiner Ferner in the western Tyrol region and Stubacher Sonnblickkees in Salzburg to the east are facing the greatest loss, each with a retreat of more than 100 meters (about 328 feet) . The average retreat was more than 20 meters (about 65 feet) . “The breakdown of the glacier tongue is also progressing at the Pasterze, Austria’s largest glacier, making the results of climate change visible,” the club said in the report covering 2024 and 2025. It added, “The report confirms once again the long-term trend: The glaciers in Austria continue to retreat significantly in length, area, and volume.” Neighboring Switzerland, which is home to the most glaciers in Europe, has noted a similar retreat in its glaciers in recent years, a trend that has been reported around the world. The retreat of the glaciers in Europe has implications for drinking water, power generation, agriculture, infrastructure, recreational activities, the Alpine landscape and more. “The glaciers are melting, and with every new report, the urgency grows,” club vice president Nicole Slupetzky said. “It’s no longer a question of whether we can still save the glaciers in their old form; it’s about relieving the results for ourselves.” Poor weather conditions such as low snowfall, warm temperatures including an exceptionally hot June last year — nearly 5 degrees Celsius above the average — have contributed to the retreat, the club said. These factors accelerated the melting of ice. Without a shift in weather patterns, the trend will likely worsen. Such changes in the Alps should serve as a “wake-up call” for policymakers and the public in their behavior, the club said. It added the current figure was lower than the figure during the previous two years, but still ranked as the eighth-largest retreat in the 135 years of measurements. 28. What can we learn from paragraph 2? A. All the glaciers in Austria have retreated. B. Glacier retreat is a widespread phenomenon. C. Pasterze is the largest glacier in Switzerland. D. People fail to know the results of climate change. 29. Which can explain the underlined word “implications” in paragraph 3? A. Quick solutions. B. Simple designs. C. Possible effects. D. Full explanations. 30. What does paragraph 4 mainly talk about? A. The causes of the glacier retreat. B. The change of weather patterns. C. The threats of climate change. D. The average temperature of Austria. 31. What does the last paragraph stress? A. The current situation is better. B. The glacier retreat is still serious. C. Measuring glacier retreat takes time. D. People’s behavior has changed a lot. D Hangzhou, the birthplace of cutting-edge companies such as DeepSeek and Unitree Robotics, announced the introduction of general artificial intelligence (AI) education in primary and secondary schools starting from this semester, with a minimum of 10 class hours per academic year. The local education bureau also released two documents outlining curriculum (课程) plans. The guidelines are intended to shape AI education and cultivate future talent in the field. According to the documents, schools can use a mix of teaching formats. They may teach the courses intensively in a certain week or integrate AI content into interdisciplinary (跨学科的) subjects such as information technology and science. Schools may also incorporate AI-themed projects into their local curricula, offering advanced knowledge and practical opportunities for students with interest in and demand for in-depth learning. Basic AI learning activities can also be arranged during after-school programs. The documents also provide suggestions for learning content, requirements, and teaching approaches across different educational stages. In the first stage (grades 1-2), students will recognize common applications of AI in their school environment. They will engage in simple interactions with AI devices and develop awareness of AI’s role in daily life. Lessons will also emphasize responsible use, particularly the importance of protecting personal privacy. In the second stage (grades 3-4), students will use appropriate AI tools to gather text, images, and audio resources based on various tasks. With teachers’ support, they will design and produce simple projects that demonstrate their understanding of AI applications. During the third stage (grades 5-6), students will explore AI application scenarios and examine the basic structures of models such as decision trees and neural networks. They will also learn the core principles behind algorithms (算法). As they progress to middle school, students will engage in hands-on activities covering the full AI workflow — from data preparation and model training to model inference. They will address real-world challenges using AI and critically evaluate generative AI. In high school, students will undertake project-based initiatives to develop skills in designing AI systems and creating intelligent agents. This experience will strengthen their ability to apply AI effectively in everyday life. 32. What is required for schools’ AI education? A. Advanced AI projects. B. Interdisciplinary teaching. C. No less than 10 class hours. D. Two curriculum documents. 33. What can we learn from paragraph 3? A. AI education is flexible in its delivery methods. B. Schools must follow a fixed AI classes schedule. C. All existing subjects are mixed with AI projects. D. Few students with interest can enjoy AI activities. 34. What does the text mainly talk about? A. The importance of after-school AI programs. B. The cutting-edge AI companies based in Hangzhou. C. The detailed learning content for high school students. D. The introduction of AI education in Hangzhou’s schools. As Generative AI (GenAI) becomes increasingly embedded (嵌入) in many of the things we do, the critical use of GenAI has emerged as an essential skill to develop. ____35____. Here are some skills you need to engage critically with AI tools. Background research and thinking The use of AI tools within your studies is most effective when you have a clear purpose and an understanding of the outputs you expect to receive. Therefore, don’t simply put your essay title into an AI tool. ____36____. You could ask yourself, “What do you know already?” or “What might you need to research further?” Prepare initial prompts A good prompt (提示) will include at least three elements: role, function and limitation. A role refers to what role you want the AI tool to play. ____37____. For example, “Provide a summary of key perspectives on a topic”. A limitation specifies the form, length or style of the GenAI’s response, like “Answer in no more than 500 words.” ____38____ It is likely that your initial output will be shallow and general. How can you develop a richer output? You might chat with the AI tool using more specific prompts. Don’t just ask it to provide the answer but encourage further reflection. For instance, “Identify the unclear logic of my text but don’t tell me the specific problems.” or “List the language mistakes but don’t correct them. Just provide hints to help me make corrections.” Perform critical analysis of outputs There are limits to the capability of GenAI for finding accurate and reliable information. You need to analyse critically. Looking at the outputs, you’re advised to consider what facts you need to check and whether you can think of any gaps. These efforts are not in vain. ____39____. A. Find some example prompts B. They lead to a deeper grasp of a topic. C. Dialogue prompting for deeper responses D. You should think about your initial thoughts E. A function is what you want the AI tool to do F. Weigh up GenAI’s potential benefits for your purpose G. It’s about building a thoughtful relationship with GenAI Research has shown that movement breaks can help students focus better in school. And it doesn’t take much, new data show. Previous studies had tested the benefits of 20 to 30 minutes of exercise on sports equipment. But exercise expert Drollette, from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, wanted to develop a program that would take just a few minutes. What his team came up with was a nine-minute high-intensity interval program. High intensity refers to a target heart rate. Interval refers to the breaks between sets of exercise. Kids might exercise for 30 seconds, rest for the next half minute, then do another 30-second set. High knees, star jumps, and kicks would all fit. Drollette and his team got 25 students, who visited his lab three times. On each visit, the kids completed nine minutes of activity: high-intensity interval exercises, stationary biking and a short educational video. Shortly after each activity, the kids took a test: five fish in a line appeared on screen, and they noted the center fish’s direction. The researchers recorded and compared their brain responses. After high-intensity exercise, students showed a change in one brain response. “We call it the uh-oh mechanism (机制),” Drollette says. It happens any time you think, “uh-oh, I made a mistake.” This response allows us to recognize a mistake so we can correct it in the future. High-intensity exercise reduced the size of that response. Kids still realized when they’d made a mistake, but their brains didn’t have to work as hard to pick up on that. The change suggests the exercise had made their brains more effective. The other two activities didn’t show that benefit. Drollette says, “Being active can help with a lot of things.” That includes both mental and physical health. So, he recommends, “Find opportunities to stand up and get moving.” 40. People have been working together with researchers ____11____ (record) its migration and make sure that there are enough plants for it to feed on. If this works, there may come a time ____12____ the number of monarch butterflies increases once again. The more we know about this lovely creature, the greater the chance it ____13____ (survive) in the natural world in the future. 11. to record 12. when 13. will survive 【解析】 【导语】这是一篇说明文。 故填to record。 从句“the number of monarch butterflies increases once again”结构完整,不缺主语或宾语,先行词在从句中作时间状语,因此需要用关系副词when引导。故填when。 故填will survive。 B Natural dyes are now returning to popularity, ____14____ (especial) with artists and craftspeople. The reasons for which they prefer natural dyes are that the colours are ____15____ (bright) and can be kept longer. Natural dyes are also becoming more popular among people, ____16____ care about the environment. Many feel that by using natural dyes, we can remind ____17____ (we) of nature’s beauty and protect the natural world. 故填who。 C The ways we celebrate traditions can change over time. For example, Wang Peng and all his big family ____18____ (eat) out for their Spring Festival dinner for the last three years. He believes this ____19____ (have) nothing to do with loss of traditions. After all, they still have the dinner with the same people, just in a different place. Moreover, ____20____ all the tiring cooking at home, the occasion is more enjoyable, and the dishes taste better. 【答案】18. have eaten 19 has 20. without 【解析】 【导语】这是一篇记叙文。 时间状语“for the last three years”(在过去的三年里)通常与现在完成时连用。主语“Wang Peng and all his big family”是复数概念,所以助动词用 have。故填have eaten。 固定短语“have nothing to do with”意为“与……无关”,此处用第三人称单数形式has。故填has。 故填without。 Below are places for meaningful journeys into nature, history and culture. B 22. C 23. 根据Austrian Alps部分中的“Hikers usually stay in farmers’ houses and try traditional foods after a long day in the mountains.(徒步旅行者通常在山里度过漫长的一天后,会住在农民家里,品尝传统食物)”可知,奥地利阿尔卑斯山的目的地以其当地食物而闻名。 根据Longmen Grottoes部分中的“Running for about 1,000 meters along the Yi River in China’s Henan Province and carved between the 5th and 8th centuries, Longmen Grottoes features over 2,300 caves which are home to more than 100,000 Buddha statues.(龙门石窟沿着中国河南省的伊河延伸约1000米,雕刻于5世纪至8世纪之间,拥有2300多个洞穴,里面供奉着超过10万尊佛像)”可知,龙门石窟中最早的洞穴建于5世纪。 根据Appian Way部分中的“If all roads lead to Rome, this ancient highway built 2,300 years ago is the mother of them all.(如果说条条道路通罗马,那么这条2300年前修建的古老公路就是所有道路之母)”和Hadrian’s Wall部分中的“Starting to be built in the second century, Hadrian’s Wall once marked the rule of the Roman Empire in the UK.(哈德良长城始建于二世纪,曾是罗马帝国统治英国的标志)”可知,Appian Way和Hadrian’s Wall都与罗马帝国有关。 D。 B “I have a cold. B 25. D 26. A 27. 根据第二段中“A few years ago, this is the sort of question I would have taken to my mum or a friend. (几年前,这类问题我会去找我妈妈或朋友。)”可知,几年前作者遇到困惑时会向妈妈或朋友求助。 【25题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段中“So far this month I have asked ChatGPT to advise on my workout plan, to get me out of a delaying habit, to analyze my Hinge (约会软件) profile, to write a presentation for me, to rewrite an email because I wasn’t sure of the wording, to find a piece of research I half remembered and to sense check a pitch I was doing. (本月至今,我已多次请求ChatGPT为我提供帮助:为我的锻炼计划提供建议、改掉拖延习惯、分析我的Hinge(约会软件)个人资料、撰写演示文稿、因为我不确定措辞,重写一封邮件、查找一段半记得的研究资料,以及对正在准备的提案进行合理性核查。)”可知,作者本月使用ChatGPT处理了约会软件资料分析和演示文稿撰写等事务。 【26题详解】 词句猜测题。根据第四段中“I’ve been on a journey with AI but now I’m at the point where I allow it to be my first port of call whenever things are slightly uncomfortable, when I’m seeking reassurance. (我一直在使用人工智能,但现在我已经到了这样一个地步,每当事情有点不舒服,当我寻求安慰时,我都会让它成为我的第一站。)”以及后文“Just as sailors stopped relying on the stars when radar became available, so I’ve stopped relying on my intuition now that a robot has stepped in. (正如水手在雷达出现后不再依赖星星一样,既然机器人介入了,我也不再依赖自己的直觉了。)”可知,ChatGPT成了作者调节情绪、寻求安慰的工具,“emotional regulator”意为“情绪调节器”,即控制情绪。 【27题详解】 推理判断题。根据第五段中“I don’t know if AI is making us lazy or stupid or dependent but I do know it’s making me less sure of myself. (我不确定人工智能是否让我们变得懒惰、愚蠢或对AI产生依赖,但我可以肯定的是,它确实让我对自己的能力越来越缺乏信心。)”以及“And I also know that I didn’t spend this long learning to listen to my own intuition rather than the demands of a patriarchal society, just to hand that wisdom over to a man-made robot. (我也清楚,自己并非花费如此漫长的时间去学会倾听自身的直觉而非顺从父权社会的要求,仅仅是为了将这份智慧交给一台人造机器人。)”可知,作者因过度依赖AI而感到自信下降、对自我产生怀疑。 C All but two of Austria’s 96 glaciers (冰川) have retreated (缩小) over the last two years, the monitors in the Alpine country reported on Friday, saying the “dramatic development” highlights the impact of climate change. B 29. C 30. A 31. 根据第二段中“The latest report from the Austrian Alpine Club shows the Alpeiner Ferner in the western Tyrol region and Stubacher Sonnblickkees in Salzburg to the east are facing the greatest loss, each with a retreat of more than 100 meters (about 328 feet) . The average retreat was more than 20 meters (about 65 feet) .(奥地利阿尔卑斯俱乐部的这份最新报告显示,位于西部蒂罗尔地区的阿尔佩纳冰川与东部萨尔茨堡的施图巴赫松布利克冰川面临最为严重的萎缩,各自后退幅度均超100米(约328英尺)。冰川平均后退距离则超过20米(约65英尺))”可知,冰川退缩并非奥地利独有,而是一个全球性的普遍现象。 【29题详解】 词句猜测题。根据第三段中implications后的列举“for drinking water, power generation, agriculture, infrastructure, recreational activities, the Alpine landscape and more(饮用水、发电、农业、基础设施、娱乐活动、阿尔卑斯山景观等)”可知,此处指的是冰川消退可能对这些领域产生的各种后果或作用。 根据第四段中“Poor weather conditions such as low snowfall, warm temperatures including an exceptionally hot June last year — nearly 5 degrees Celsius above the average— have contributed to the retreat, the club said. These factors accelerated the melting of ice. Without a shift in weather patterns, the trend will likely worsen.(该俱乐部指出,低降雪量、高温——包括去年六月异常酷热,气温较常年均值高出近5摄氏度——等恶劣天气状况,均是导致冰川退缩的重要诱因。这些因素加速了冰体消融。倘若天气模式不发生转变,这一恶化趋势恐将持续加剧)”可知,本段重点分析了导致冰川退缩的具体气候原因。 【31题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段中“It added the current figure was lower than the figure during the previous two years, but still ranked as the eighth-largest retreat in the 135 years of measurements.(报告补充说,当前数据虽低于前两年,但在135年的测量史上仍位列退缩规模的第八位)”可知,尽管退缩速度略有放缓,但整体情况依然十分严峻,不容乐观。 D Hangzhou, the birthplace of cutting-edge companies such as DeepSeek and Unitree Robotics, announced the introduction of general artificial intelligence (AI) education in primary and secondary schools starting from this semester, with a minimum of 10 class hours per academic year. It’s about building a thoughtful relationship with GenAI 【答案】35. G 36. D 37. E 38. C 39. You need to analyse critically. Looking at the outputs, you’re advised to consider what facts you need to check and whether you can think of any gaps. These efforts are not in vain. B选项“They lead to a deeper grasp of a topic. Research has shown that movement breaks can help students focus better in school. What had previous studies tested? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ 41. What do kids do in a nine-minute high-intensity interval program? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ 42. What does the change brought by high-intensity exercise suggest? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ 43.
