Every March,Brain Awareness Week works to increase public support for brain science. It's
also a good time to think about how our daily habits can strengthen our brains for life.
Our brain contros everything we do:thinking, mmbering, moving, and feeling.Caring for
it supports our overall health and quality of life.Recently, the Global Council on BraHea
(GCBH)has found that brain health is deeply interconnected with physical health, mental
well-being,and litestyte choices.
Here are four key pilars tor brain health suggested by the GCBH,with practical steps you can
take
Category
Core Function
Specific Suggestions
Boosts brain blood flow,
1.150 minutes of moderate exercise
(walking/cycling)weekly;
Physical
enhances memory,
Exercise
promotes brain cell
2.Strength training 2-3 times a week;
growth
3.Balance exercises(yoga/tai chi);

After 84 days without catching a single fish,an old fisherman,Santiago, sails far out to sea
without his devoted Manolin. The fish he eventually catches is so big that it pulls the boat for two
whole days and nights.Despite being wounded and exhausted,Santiago battles to hold the line that
holds the fish.On the third day,the fish finally tires, allowing Santiago to kill it with a harpoon
)But the blood from the fish attracts sharks, which Santiago bravely fights throughout the day
and night.Although he succeeds in killing some of the sharks, yet more of these predators appear.
The shark closed fast and its head was out of the water and the old man could hear the noise
of flesh ripping(撕裂、划破)on the big fish when the old-man rammed(盒扎》the harpoon down
onto the shark's head at a spot where the line between his eyes intersected with the line that ran
straight back from his nose. There were no such lines. But that was the location of the brain and the
old man hit it.He hit it with all his strength. He hit it without hope but with resolution and
determined hostility.

The shark swung over and the old man saw his eye was not alive and knew that he was dead.
"He took about forty pounds,"the old man said aloud. He took my harpoon too and all the rope,he
thought, and now my fish bleeds again and there will be more sharks.
,He did not like to look at the fish anymore since he had been mutilated(残缺不仝).When
the fish had been hit it was as though he himself were hit."But I killed the shark that hit my fish,"
he thought. And he was the biggest dentuso that I have ever seen.
"It was too good to last,"he thought."I wish it had been a dream now and that I had never
hooked the fish and was alone in bed on the newspapers."But man is not made for defeat,he said.
A man can be destroyed but not defeated.I am sorry that fkilled the fish though,he thought. Now
the bad time is coming and I do not even have the harpoon. The dentuso is cruel and able and
strong and intelligent.
But I was more intelligent than he was.Perhaps not;he thought.Perhaps I was only better
amed.“Don't think, old man,”he said aloud.“Sail on this course and take it when it comes.”ButI
must think,"Think about something cheerful, old man,"he said."Every minute now you are closer
to home. You sail lighter for the loss of forty pounds."
"Now,"he said."I am still an old man.Bufl am aet unarmed."
The breeze was fresh now and he sailed on well.He watched only the forward part of the
fish and some of his hope returned.

A new study has found that breathing does more than just move air in and out of your lungs
-it could even be used to identify who you are.Scientists at Israel's Weizmann Institute of
Science discovered that each person has a distinct breathing pattern, known as a nasal (
breathing"fingerprint"a unique pattern that reveals clues about a person's physical and mental
health.Notably, brain scientist Timna Soroka shared,"We were able to identify differences between
less depressed and non-depressed individuals."
The researchers originally set out to better understand how our sense of smell works. In
humans, the brain processes smell during inhalation ()and this close connection between the
brain and breathing led the team to wonder:could our breathing patterns reflect the way our brains
are wired-and be unique to each of us?To explore this question, they developed a lightweight,
wearable device that tracks nasal airflow continuously for 24 hours.
The study, published in the journal Current Biology, tested 100 healthy young adults as they
went about their regular routines-running,studying,resting,and more. The results showed
breathing patterns can identify individuals with 96.8 percent accuracy."I thought it would be
really hard to identify someone because everyone is doing different things,"said Soroka."But it
turns out their breathing patters were remarkably distinct!"
Beyond individual identification, the study also found clear links between breathing patterns
and body mass index (BMD,sleep-wake cycles, and mental health traits such as anxiety and
depression. For example, people who scored higher on anxiety tests tended to have shorter
inhalation periods.Importantly, the researchers noted that they only know there is an association
between breathing and mood.but they don't know the cause-and-effect direction-whether
feeling anxious changes breathing,or a certain breathing pattern causes anxiety. If the latter is true,
changing how we breathe could potentially improve mood.
However, the current device has drawbacks:it uses soft tubes under the nose that can be
uncomfortable to wear and may slip during sleep, and it doesn't track mouth breathing. The team is
working on improving the device and turtner exploring the breathing-mood connection to unlock
more practical applications.
61.Why is breathing"fingerprint"mentioned?
A.To explain how the brain processes smell.
B.To introduce a newly-invented tracking device.
天津市实骏中学滨海学校TTANJIN EXPERIMENTAL BINHAI HIGH SCHOOL
C.To show a link between breathing and depression.
D.To stress the uniqueness of personal breathing pattern
62 What does the underlined word in paragraph 2 mean?
A.Connected.
B.Powered.C.Controlled.
Traincd
63.What can we infer about the relationship between breathing and mood?
A.Changes in breath cure anxiety.
B.Their exact relationship remains unclear.
C.Anxiety always causes abnormal breathing.
D.Breathing is responsible for negative mood.
64.What is a limitation of the current wearable device?
A.It cannot track nasal airflow for 24 hours straight.
B.It is too heavy to be worn during daily activities.
C.It fails to monitor breathing through the mouth.
D.It can only be used to test healthy young adults.
65.What is the main finding of this research?
A.Our fingerprints tell a lot about our health.
B.Breathing patterns link to identity and health.
C.A groundbreaking device reveals mental health.
D.Anxiety levels link to shorter inhalation periods.

Earlier in2025,I had dinner in D.C.with Jensen Huang(黄仁勋),the CEO of Nvidia. At one
point,he said something that struck me:"Why is everyone here so negative?"He wasn't referring
to the economy or politics, but the dominant sentiment-fear of Al.This fear often stems from
exaggerated concerns that it may become sentient(能感知的),escape human oversight, and pose
physical or economic threats.
The AI debate is dominated by two extremes:Doomers believe AI will destroy humanity;
zealots believe it will save us.Both assume AI will surpass human intelligence and slip beyond
human control-views rooted more in science fiction than in science, neglecting how innovation
truly works.
AI realism presents a third path:technology succeeds by improving lives.Innovations like the
internet, cars, and antibiotics were widely adopted because they solved real problems.AI is rikely
to follow the same patter Much of today's debate, however, risks impulsive regulation and
exploits public anxiety about a teehnolegy we are only just beginning to understand.
The debate's core conflict-between doomers and zealots-relies on a false assumption:
intelligence is a single, measurable scale that machines could one day dominate. In reality, human
intelligence cannot be precisely defined or measured.Metrics(衡量指标)like IQ scores or
diplomas are only rough approximations;qualities like empathy, judgment, and creativity cannot be
captured in a test.Intelligence is more like a continually evolving spectrum ()not a final
destination. As human knowledge expands,so does our understanding of intelligence. What
appears advanced today may be surpassed tomorrow,a pattern we see with each new generation of

AI models.
AI realism is built on humility.Human life is profoundly complex and still largely beyond our
full comprehension..What defines humanity is immanence(内在性)一a qualitative,lived
experience that cannot be captured by the quantitative metrics AI operates on.We are not defined
by data, but by our ability to create, stumble ()love,and learn.AI can replicate the Pieta in
flawless marble(大理石)detail,,but not the meaning and purpose Michelangelo embedded(嵌入)
into the sculpture.
AI debates often feel shallow because they are dominated by people with unrealistic
expectations.Yes,AI brings risks, like jobs shift, but history shows such shifts lead to greater
prosperity.AI isn't here to replace us;it's here to empower us.Like the steam engine or
smartphones,it extends human reach. It will never replicate the chaos and creativity of human life
because it wasn't designed to.The question is whether we will meet it with paranoia (or
perspective.
66.Which of the following correctly characterizes the two mainstream extreme views on Al?
A.Both agree that AI's evolution strictly follows the laws of scientific innovation.
B.Optimists trust human control over AI while pessimists fear losing human oversight.
C.Both ignore the real technological evolution and believe AI will surpass humans.
D.Concerns arise more from politics and economy than from AI gaining consciousness.
67.What does AI realism emphasize as the basis for technological success?
A.The ability to surpass human intelligence in all domams.
B.The role of solving practical problems to improve daily life.
C.The need to agree with extreme predictions about future tech.
D.The priority of gaining political support over public adoption.
68.Which of the following best illustrates the author's view on the future development of AI?
A.The definition of intelligence will continue to evolve with AI.
B.Intelligence tests will reliably show AI's permanent superiority
C.Human-specific qualities will prevent AI surpassing humans.
D.The measurement of intelligence will slow Al's advancement
69.Why does the author mentionMichelangelo's Pieta ia Paragraph 5?
A.To highlight AI's technical limitations in copying artistic details.
B.To stress human creativity holds great significance beyond its surface.
C.To argue historical art should guide modern AI development priorities.
D.To suggest AI will understand the purpose behind human masterpieces.
70.What attitude of the author is implied toward humanity's response to Ar?
A.Believing paranoia will prevent AI reaching its potential.
B Urging immediate integration of AI into all life aspects.
C.Advocating for reasonable engagement over fear or boast.
D.Viewing AI as a neutral force unaffected by human perspective.

Family stories are amazing to me.You hear of family members long ago and by hearing about
their stories, you can find timeless wisdom that can apply to your own life.
I'll never forget the story my mom told me about Grandma.Grandma cooked for a crew of 24
farmhands(农场工人)so most of her days were taken up cooking breakfast, lunch, and dinner for
a bunch of loud men coming in from hunting or farming. She took care of five children as well so
her house was a busy little place, but where you would find Grandma the most would be in front of
her stove, stirring a pot of something.
The kids would run in and she'd give them a hug and then she'd go back to stirring. The men
would come in and clean up all the biscuits and bacon and then she'd start on the next meal, once
again standing and stirring at the stove. They'd tell her how wonderful her food was and then pour
out their troubles to her as she listened and stirred.
One time Ruth watched as the farmhands ate quickly and went back out to work, hearing all of
them grumbling about their lives. Then one by one the children came in to tell Grandma their own
worries. She would smile, give them some kind of advice, and keep stirring.Ruth watched sitting at
the table and when everyone left she said,"Mother, how can you just sit there and stir?Everyone
tells you how bad their life is and you just smile and stir? Why don't you just tell them that you've
had enough and you can't take anymore?Do something...Stop stirring!"Grandma looked up at
Ruth and smiled...and kept stirring.
"Ruth, don't you know that the stirring is very important? You see, when I'm stirring I'm
putting all my thoughts and dreams into that pot.As everyone comes in and tells me about their life
I put the love and positive thoughts into my pot and stir. Then when they eat it they have been
given a pot full of hope.If we have any kind of problems I envision (a solution and put it in
my pot and stir.My stirring is what keeps me focusing on what is good in the world. So instead of
worrying about all that is around me,I keep stirring knowing that all is well."
