For Derek Veal,it all started when he explored his grandfather's old house in
Georgia. He found an old suitcase filled with photographs, some more than 100 years
old.
The suitcase belonged to his great-grandmother,who had Alzheimer's(阿尔茨海默
)and lived in a nursing home.Veal and his grandfather went to visit her with the
photos, hoping she could tell them more about the photos. What happened next
changed Veal's life.
"Everything came back to her when she saw these pictures,"Veal said."She
recognized her sisters, her aunts, her grandparents...It was the first time I had ever
seen someone's excitement from an old photo returning to them."
The experience made Veal realize the power of old photographs to hold precious
and long-forgotten memories and restore a sense of identity. It never left him.Two
years ago,,when he came across old family photos for sale at a thrift store(I旧货店),he

work it takes to solve the puzzle, and the memories these lost pictures can bring back
to the families they belong to.What makes this hobby so unique is not only how it

Your favorite foods might not taste the same in the future, and the climate crisis is
behind it.
In Spain, the black Iberian pigs, which are very important for making special ham,
usually eat acorns (and surrounding grass under oak trees. However, because of
heatwaves and a five-year drought,these natural-foods are becoming less.So,the pigs
are now fed olives(做揽),thereby changing the unique flavor of the ham.
Drought also affects how fruits taste. For example, watermelons and cantaloupes
(taste different when there's a drought.Researchers from a Spanish tech center
told a Spanish newspaper that sugars and other compounds build up during droughts,
changing the taste of food, sometimes for better, sometimes for worse.
Beyond drought, rising temperatures and sea levels also influence food flavors.
Typically, warm days and cool nights improve the sugar and acid content in fruits,
which are essential for the optimal flavor.However,global-warming makes this hard
to achieve. For example,Japanese apples are becoming less acidic, softer, and drier
due to early blooming and high temperatures during growth.
While the food we eat is deeply influenced by the climate crisis, our food choices
also cause it.Eating meat and dairy from cows has a big impact on the climate
Raising livestock (produces a lot of greenhouse gases.Making animal protein
also needs more land, energy and water than making plant-based protein
This may seem like a problem that can't be solved, but we can break this cycle. The
Good Food Institute,a US group, believes people will choose alternative protein if
they are as tasty and affordable as meat.
Meanwhile, more people have started to take action.According to The New York
Times,Will Hlmaris,a US farmer,practices regenerative farming,allowing cows to
move around freely, using less chemical use and disturbing the soil less, which is
more environmentally friendly.
61.What changes the flavor of the ham?
A.The unique compounds caused by heatwaves.
B.People's need to make the flavor special.
C.The harvest of acorns and the surrounding grass.
D.The shortage of food sources and alternative feed
62.What does the underlined word "optimai"in Paragraph 4 mean?
A.Strange.
B.Common.
C.Best.
D.Worst.
63.Which are the factors leading to the change of foods'flavor?
A.Rising temperatures and sea levels.B.Heatwaves and hurricanes.
C.Regenerative farming and researches.D.Human's study and choices.
64.According to the Good Food Institute, people will choose alternative protein if
A.the greenhouse gases disappear
B.they are delicious and cheap enough
C.they are cheaper than meat
D.the environment changes
65.What's the main idea of the passage?
A.Climate crisis changing food taste.
B.Livestock's role in making protein.

D.Benefits of regenerative farming
