Now some of the aborigines live in their land and they are trying to protect their way of life from tourism and from people who want their land."(现在一些土著居民居住在自己的土地上,他们正努力保护自己的生活方式,使其免受旅游业以及觊觎这片土地的人的影响。) 故选A。
They decorated the walls of caves with paintings which show the ideas of the aboriginal people or their everyday life."(他们用画作装饰洞穴的墙壁,这些画作展现出土著居民的思想或是他们的日常生活。)
Art was an important part of life for the aborigines."(艺术是土著居民生活中重要的一部分。) They are very proud of their ancient culture and want to keep it."(他们为自己古老的文化感到自豪,并且想要将它传承下去。)
When the Europeans arrived,there were 50,000 aborigines.The Europeans took their land,built houses and set up factories."(当欧洲人到来时,这里生活着5万名土著居民。

History hidden in Chinese direction words
Have you ever thought about some interesting Chinese expressions? We say “shang ce suo” (go to the toilet) and “xia chu fang” (go to the kitchen), Toilet is “shang” (up), while kitchen is “xia” (down). Why do we use opposite direction words for these two places? The answer hides in ancient Chinese house layouts (布局).
In old-time Chinese houses, buildings usually faced south. According to traditional rules, the toilet was built in the northeast part of the yard. The kitchen lay in the southeast corner. When family members walked from the main central hall towards the northeast toilet, they were moving “up”. Walking to the southeast kitchen meant moving “down”. That is how these phrases came into being.
Direction words carry more old culture. We have the phrase “yi jian xiang zuo” (hold opposite opinions). “Zuo” means left. In ancient times, “left” sometimes stood for disagreement. Besides, many old official titles also contained “zuo” or “you”. “You” often meant higher-rank position while “zuo” meant lower in certain periods.
Language is a living record of history. We seldom notice these small details in daily speech. But behind simple words, we can catch how ancient Chinese people lived, thought and organized their homes. Studying language can open a window for us to learn history.
21.How does the writer bring out the topic in Paragraph 1?
A.By doing a survey about old houses. B.By raising puzzling daily language examples.
C.By comparing modern and ancient houses. D.By introducing several old Chinese stories.
22.What is Paragraph 2 mainly about?
A.The building materials of ancient houses. B.Reasons for “shang ce suo, xia chu fang”.
C.Different positions of modern kitchens. D.Customs of ancient big families.
23.What does the underlined word “That” in Paragraph 2 refer to?
A.Ancient houses facing south.
B.People walking inside the hall.
C.The moving directions caused by house layout.
D.Traditional rules for building yards.
24.What is the function of the last paragraph?
A.To give suggestions on learning spoken Chinese.
B.To provide more examples of old phrases.
C.To draw a conclusion: language reflects history.
D.To compare different kinds of old- style buildings.
25.What can we infer from Paragraph 3?
A.“Zuo” always meant low status in all ancient dynasties.
B.Some Chinese words show ancient social culture.
C.Official titles in old days only used “zuo” and “you”.
D.People used “left” to talk about happy feelings.
第一段通过提出日常语言中的疑问来引入话题:“We say ‘shang ce suo’ (go to the toilet) and ‘xia chu fang’ (go to the kitchen)... Why do we use opposite direction words for these two places?”,说明作者是通过列举令人困惑的日常语言例子来引出话题的。
第二段先介绍了古代房屋的布局(厕所位于东北,厨房位于东南),接着说明“When family members walked from the main central hall towards the northeast toilet, they were moving ‘up’. Walking to the southeast kitchen meant moving ‘down’.”,最后总结“That is how these phrases came into being.”,因此“That”指代的是前面提到的由房屋布局导致的移动方向。
最后一段指出:“Language is a living record of history... But behind simple words, we can catch how ancient Chinese people lived, thought and organized their homes. Studying language can open a window for us to learn history.”,该段总结了全文,点明了语言(尤其是词汇)能够反映历史和文化这一核心结论。
C
In early human history, home was like a small fire and a circle of close people. People sat around the fire, sharing food and stories, and the dancing light of the fire held the earliest sense of safety. Over time, home has become an important part of how we think and feel about the world. It is more than just a place and it helps us feel safe and connected.
You can feel at home in other places, but it’s different from being in your true home. For example, if you travel to another city or country, you might start to feel comfortable there, but you may feel very homesick (想家的) when you are away for some days. That shows how strong the line (界限) between home and not-home can be.
For animals, home is often the natural world that they live in. For example, a bird’s true home is its habitat, like the forest. But for us, we can live almost anywhere—our habitat is more like mental (精神的) space.
Sometimes when you go back home after a trip, your house might look like any other house on the street. But that feeling quickly goes away because your home holds a special place in your heart. People, memories, and feelings turn a space into a real home. It is a place full of love and dreams.
26.How does the writer start the text?
A.By comparing facts. B.By showing pictures.
C.By telling stories. D.By giving numbers.
27.What does the underlined word “habitat” probably mean?
A.The food an animal needs. B.The way in which an animal communicates.
C.The place where an animal naturally lives. D.The group an animal belongs to.
28.Which paragraph tells us the differences between humans’ homes and animals’ homes?
A.Paragraph 1. B.Paragraph 2. C.Paragraph 3. D.Paragraph 4.
29.Why does a house feel special when you return home after a trip?
A.Because it looks different from other houses.
B.Because it has many expensive things inside.
C.Because it holds a special place in your heart with people, memories and feelings.
D.Because it is the biggest house on the street.
30.What’s the best title for the text?
A.How to Build a Home B.What Is Home
C.Animals’ Homes D.Love and Dreams
第一段描述了早期人类的生活场景:“People sat around the fire, sharing food and stories, and the dancing light of the fire held the earliest sense of safety.”,作者通过叙述远古人类围坐火堆分享食物和故事的情景来开头,即通过讲故事的方式引入话题。
第三段提到:“For example, a bird’s true home is its habitat, like the forest.”,用森林来举例说明鸟类的“habitat”,说明该词指的是动物自然生活和栖息的地方。
第三段明确指出:“For animals, home is often the natural world that they live in... But for us, we can live almost anywhere—our habitat is more like mental space.”,该段直接对比了动物的家(自然环境)与人类的家(精神空间)的不同,因此第三段讲述了人类与动物住所的区别。
第四段指出:“But that feeling quickly goes away because your home holds a special place in your heart. People, memories, and feelings turn a space into a real home.”,说明旅行归来后家之所以让人感觉特别,是因为家在我们心中占据着特殊位置,其中充满了人、记忆和情感。
Have you ever heard of the Feynman Technique? It’s a learning method that helps students learn by teaching others. Nobel Prize-winning physicist Richard Feynman developed it.
31 For one thing, it helps students really understand something instead of just knowing information. Moreover, different from traditional learning methods like re-reading textbooks or reviewing notes, the Technique pushes students to be more active in learning.
If you want to use the Technique, follow these steps.
Choose a topic that you want to learn. 32 You won’t develop a deeper understanding of any of them.
Explain the topic simply enough so that a sixth-grade student can understand it easily. This requires you to help the child understand it by using the simplest and clearest language. This step helps divide (拆分) difficult topics into their most basic parts.
33 Try to find any area where you felt that you couldn’t explain the topic simply. When possible, it can be very helpful to get advice from someone whose understanding is similar to that of a sixth-grader.
Improve your explanation using the information collected from the last step.
34 That is why going through all the steps above just once is usually not enough to fully understand the topic.
Once you’re confident that you’ve learned the topic, it’s time to give yourself a prize. 35
A.Review your explanation.
B.Ask others for useful learning advice.
C.Perhaps, like me, enjoy a nice cup of coffee.
D.If not, you’ll end up jumping between topics.
E.The Technique works best when you repeat it.
F.The Technique has been among the most useful learning methods for a long time.
【答案】31.F 32.D 33.A 34.E 35.C
F选项“The Technique has been among the most useful learning methods for a long time.”
D选项“If not, you’ll end up jumping between topics.”中的If not指代“如果不选定单一主题”,承接前一句假设反面情况;后半句“You won’t develop a deeper understanding of any of them.”
A选项“Review your explanation.”
E选项“The Technique works best when you repeat it.”
C选项“Perhaps, like me, enjoy a nice cup of coffee.”

I’ve always played basketball, but for fun. When I decided to take it more seriously, I realized that I needed to get stronger, so I began fitness training. I tried to learn how to do this on my own, but ended up hurting my back, the effects of which I can still feel today.
That was when I understood that, in the early stages of fitness training, one needs to learn proper skills, which only a coach can provide. This led me to become a personal trainer to help people become fitter without any injury (受伤).
For me the biggest challenge is to know what my students need. Most people come and say, “Help me lose weight.” But what does that mean? I need to make the effort and create a program that is tailored (专门的) to their person’s needs. He might need to build up muscle strength (肌肉力量), for example; or he may want to improve his performance in a sport.
Another challenge I face is that many people do not take exercise very seriously. Yes, there are many gyms and many people say they go to gyms often. But the truth is, with a busy lifestyle, doing exercise is usually the first to fall off the list of important things to do. This is especially true for young people. With the pressure of studies or work, most of them do not exercise often.
In my opinion, making time for exercise is something that all of us should take seriously. No more excuses!
As the writer tried to do fitness training on his own, he ended up 46 his back.
