Lead-in 1.7.2013 Click to add text ‹#› Lead-in Lead-in Observe the following sentences 1 Look at the sentences and answer the questions. Sentences (a) and (c) are from the reading passage. a No visitor would think it surprising that the island is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. b No visitor would think that the island being a UNESCO World Heritage Site is surprising. c Experts felt it necessary to come up with a plan to remove all the rabbits from the island. d Experts felt to come up with a plan to remove all the rabbits from the island was necessary. 1.7.2013 Click to add text ‹#› 02. Presentation 1.7.2013 Click to add text ‹#› Lead-in Presentation Answer the questions Q2: What is the difference between the sentences in each group? Why does the author choose (a) and (c) instead of (b) and (d)? In (a) and (c), "it" is used as an empty object and the real object is moved to the end of the sentence; in (b) and (d), the real object comes first. The author uses (a) and (c) because the real object is too long; putting "it" after the verb keeps the sentence balanced and makes it more natural to read. 1.7.2013 Click to add text ‹#› Lead-in Presentation Answer the questions Q1: What does "it" refer to in sentences (a) and (c)? a No visitor would think it surprising that the island is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. b No visitor would think that the island being a UNESCO World Heritage Site is surprising. c Experts felt it necessary to come up with a plan to remove all the rabbits from the island. d Experts felt to come up with a plan to remove all the rabbits from the island was necessary. It does not refer to anything. It is an empty object standing for the real object at the end of the sentence — "that the island is a UNESCO World Heritage Site" in (a) and "to come up with a plan to remove all the rabbits from the island" in (c). 1.7.2013 Click to add text ‹#› Presentation Discover the rule Type Structure Example Structure 1 to do Experts felt it necessary to remove the rabbits. Let me tell you about Saihanba. Decades ago, it was a desert. Now it has turned into a vast forest. We find it amazing that workers created such a wonder with great efforts. They made it possible to stop sandstorms and improve the local environment. I think you will love it. I sincerely invite you to visit Saihanba in person. Yours, Li Hua 1.7.2013 Click to add text ‹#› Homework Homework 2 (Option B) 假如你是李华,学校英文报社开设"Protecting Our Delicate World"专栏,请你结合麦夸里岛或塞罕坝的故事投稿。 内容包括: 1. 故事给你的启示; 2. 你将如何行动。 要求: 1. 词数100左右; 2. 至少使用3处it作形式宾语; 3. 行文连贯,可适当增加细节。 1.7.2013 Click to add text ‹#› Homework Sample answer 2 Protecting Our Delicate World The story of Macquarie Island teaches us it important to think carefully before introducing new species. Human interference can cause ecological chaos that takes decades to repair. I think it our responsibility to protect the environment around us. I consider it necessary to learn more about local ecosystems and refuse to release pets into the wild. It is also a good idea to join conservation volunteer activities. Only by respecting nature can we give our planet a healthy future. 1.7.2013 Click to add text ‹#› Thank you for your listening 1.7.2013 Click to add text ‹#› $
