A few years ago,a preschooler named Ryan was really into watching
toy review videos online. He started asking his parents to set up a channel
for him, too. They agreed. As you might imagine, noone watched any of
the boy's videos at first. But then, his mother came up with an idea that
brought her son more success. She filmed Ryan in a more-elaborate-than-
usual video, playing with more than 100 toys from the Pixar series "cars".
It grew popular.
Now,the channel's audience size is astonishing.Ryan, still six years
old,has 10 million subscribers().Some of his videos have attracted
more than 1 billion views. And,according to Forbes,he's made his family
rich.Last year, his channel made just over 11 million in advertising fees.
That makes him the eighth-most successful influenceron the planet.
The channel is called Ryan's ToysReview. It's produced by Ryan's
family,and they don't reveal Ryan's last time,or his parents'names at all,
or the city they live in-probably out of well-founded security concerns. All
we really know about them is that his father is a structural engineer, and
his mother reportedly quit her job as a high school chemistry teacher to run
the channel full-time.
Nearly each day for the past two years, his parents have produced
videos of him playing around, featuring toys, and demonstrating his
comedic timing and storytelling. They mostly film the raw videoson the
weekends, and do the editing and production required while he'sin school.
As the Washington Post points out,six-year-old Ryan's specialty is
“the slow reveal”.Many of the videos'titles“include the word
‘SURPRISE'in all caps(全部大写).”If you see a few examples of Ryan's
ToyReview videos, you may find they might not be your style exactly-as
Ryan's mom pointed out in the interview, their biggest audience is children
aged 3 to 7,and I'm guessing that's not you.But they're part of a huge and
successful market and the toy industry has apparently taken notice.
24.Who created the idea that made Ryan more successful?
A.His friends.
B.His father.
C.His teachers.
D.His mother.
25.How do Ryan's family make their most earnings?
A.By advertising.
B.By selling toys.
C.By charging subscription fees.D.By designing video games.
26.What can we know about Ryan's family?
A.Ryan'sfather is good at producing videos.
B.Ryan's mother is an excellent teacher at school.
C.Ryan and his family's private information is well protected.
D.Ryan's parents are busy with their work during their weekends.
27.According to the last paragraph, how can we expect Ryan's ToysReview
is?
A.Boring.
B.Promis ing.
C.Under pressure.
D.Of importance.

Now,researchers have developed a robotic leg with artificial muscles.
A new muscle-powered robotic leg is not only more energy efficient than a
conventional one,it can also perform high jumps and fast movements as
well as detect and react to barriers-all without the need for complex
sensors.
The researchers compared the energy efficiency of their robotic leg with
that of a conventional robotic leg powered by an electric motor. They
analyzed energy conversion to heat."It's easy to see that the motorised leg
consumes much more energy if,say,it has to hold a bent position, one
researcher called Buchner says.The electro-hydraulic(电液的)leg's
temperature remains the same as it's electrostatic(静电的).“It's like the
example with the balloon and the hair, where the hair stays stuck to the
balloon for quite a long time,Buchner adds.Electric motor robots need
heat management,but this system doesn't.
Unlike electric motors that need sensors, the artificial muscle adjusts
position through interaction with the environment. It has two input signals.
"When a person lands after jumping into the air, they don't have to think in
advance about whether they should bend their knees at a 90-degree or a 70-
degree angle."The same principle applies to the soft robotic leg's inner
system:upon landing, the leg joint adaptively moves into a suitable angle
depending on whether the surface is hard or soft.
Keplinger,another Buchner's colleague,says."Compared to walking
robots with electric motors, our system is still limited. The leg is currently
attached to a rod(),jumps in circles and can't yet move freely.Future
work should overcome these limitations, opening the door to developing
real walking robots with artificial muscles. He further explains,"If we
combine the robotic leg in a four-leg robot or a humanoid robot with two
legs, maybe one day, when it is battery-powered,we can use it as a rescue
robot.”
28.What does paragraph 1 tell us about the robotic leg with artificial muscles?
A.Its potential drawbacks.
B.Its complex systems.
C.Its distinct advantages.
D.Its wonderful working principles.
29.What does paragraph 2 focus on about the new muscle-powered robotic leg?
A.Its advantages and disadvantages.
B.Its heat management.
C.Its way of charging.
D.Its efficiency.
30.What is particularly important for soft robotics according to paragraph 3?
A.High adaptability.
B.Soft surface.
C.Reliable energy.
D.Input signals.
31.What can we infer from Keplinger's words in the last paragraph?
A.Technology changes our understanding of robots.
B.Emerging technology opens up new possibilities.
C.Our lives in the 21st century are changed by robots.
D.Artificial muscles ensure the disabled a bright future.

When I was 46,my husband Jerry suggested that I go skiing with him,

高考总复习·滚动综合卷·英语(四)4一3
You know I can't stand being cold."I didn't mention my fear of chairlifts
and heights."You go and have fun, sweetheart!"
So,Jerry went skiing with his nephew and other new skiers.More
trips followed with increasing excitement.Yet,I couldn't ignore their
genuine joy in skiing nor the positive changes in Jerry.I began to feel
guilty.Didn't I owe something to this sport and to my husband?Shouldn't I
at least try it?
"What?"my friends asked in surprise when I said I was considering
skiing.“You're46 years old!You're going to break a leg.”Though they
reflected my own fears,I took up my courage to take my first step.I told
Jerry I might try skiing. Thus,he immediately planned a trip just for the
two of us.
Though filled with fear,I couldn't hide my excitement as we drove to
California's Big Bear Mountain Resort(度假胜地).After checking in,
Jerry's blue eyes sparkled (as he signed me up for the next day's
beginner class.
The following morning, after fitting me with rental ski boots, leading
me to the instructor, and kissing me quickly,Jerry rushed to the nearest ski
lift.I stood in a straight line with all the other beginners, like ducks in a
row,and listened to the ski instructor.Last in line at the upper end,I tried
to appear invisible until the unthinkable happened:I lost my balance and
fell.I tried to follow instructions,but my feet,which I couldn't feel,
refused to cooperate.I could only turn in one direction-left.
Worse,I couldn't remember what to do with my skis when I needed to
stop,so I just fell over.And I kept forgetting the rule:"Never point your
skis downhill when trying to get up.One time,I just lay there,
exhausted.“I hate skiing!”I whispered,finally getting upright..

Two businessmen were invited to dinner at the home of a college professor. One of the men had not had
much education and was worried that he might make a fool of himself, but his friend said,"Don't worry.Just do
what I do,and don't talk about anything that you don't really understand.
The first man managed to get through the dinner successfully, but by the end of the evening he had had a lot
of drink, and he began to get careless.
A guest asked him whether he liked Shakespeare, and he answered confidently,"It's very pleasant, but I
prefer Coco-Cola."There was an uncomfortable silence in the room, and soon people began to leave.
When the two friends were out of the house, the second man said to his friend,"You certainly madea fool of
yourself by making that silly remark about Coca-Cola."
“What do you mean?”asked the other man.“What was wrong with it?”

Wisely,he blamed my instructor and promised private lessons. The next morning,I fell in love with my new
instructor. He was patient and made me confident.Things started clicking.I learned how to stop, get up easily,
and make right turns. Finally,I said goodbye to my instructor, who handed me over Jerry for further practice on
the slopes. With hard practice I soon mastered that.
By the end of the ski season,I had overcome all my fears. When I was on the snowy slopes,I felt like a
bird flying freely in the sky.I could smoothly turn left and right.I was not afraid of the challenges on the skiing
field anymore. With the wind blowing on my face, every moment of skiing was filled with joy and a sense of
achievement. It's truly a wonderful feeling to be able to ski freely and enjoy the beauty of the snow-covered
mountains.
