At 56,as an operator,I moved an old desk for a phone installation(

“Either we got it all..or we didn't,”the doctor commented.“T'd
recommend that you take that tour you told me about, and do anything else
this year that you have been putting off."
“My God,”I begged..“The doctor expects this to spread and take my
life within a year!I won't even get to claim any of the Social Security money
I have contributed all these years. It isn't fair!"
I hadn't intended to take an early retirement;as a mother with two

genealogy misspelled and a call for a volunteer editor.I had only a year, but
I could surely do better than that!So I became an editor.I used the
blessings of the new computers to continue writing and sold a few pieces.
I gave away many of my possessions, all my art supplies, and waited.
As the year raced by and I was still around.I figured I still only had a few
more years, maybe five.I marked off the years, filling them with
everything I had procrastinated doing all my life.I took courses,Spanish
and Russian;I taught night school courses in genealogy and family history.
I valued every minute, lost in visions of my new grandchildren I didn't
expect to see grow up.
Now I've not only seen the first of the grandchildren grow up,but all
ten of them and the first four great-grandchildren.I have been a zoo
volunteer for over 25 years.I have had more articles and a couple of
children's picture books published.

Unless you'revery young or very old,it's likely you have some kind of
relationship with email, whether you get hundreds of messages a day or a
few dozen a week.A new study suggests that how we deal with these
incoming messages could be affecting our stress levels and overall health.
A team from the Future Work Centre in the UK surveyed 2,000

how they managed their email and how much associated stress they felt as a

top of messages felt the most email-related pressure too.

source of stress of frustration for many of us.The people who reported it
being most useful to them also reported the highest levels of email
pressure!"said one of the team,Richard Mackinnon.
Two of the habits linked to more email-related stress were checking for
messages first thing in the morning and last thing at night.Half of those

percent of respondents left their email app open all day and all night. Both
were linked to higher levels of email pressure. The survey also found that
managers suffered morethannon-managers.

形式。
Honesty is the best policy. But in many situations, people do not want
the truth.Whether it's a fact of life 56 a criticism of their behavior,
everyone has truths they want to ignore. These truths 57 (call)truth
bombs. This metaphor shows truth can cause damage if not 58 (handle)
well,so caution should be exercised when pointing out difficult truths.
Sometimes we drop truth bombs out of anger. We may rationalize(
理解释)our words by saying that we need to express our59_(emotion)
or to help change their ways. But often we use the truth as 60 weapon
to make the other person feel bad and to repay them for what they did.
Truth bombs rarely lead to 61 (production)discussions because
they trigger (a defensive reaction.Over time, truth bombs can
increase conflict and weaken trust in relationships. Also, truth bombs often
fail 62 (represent)the whole truth.Anger can make it difficult to see
the big picture.
Sometimes people do need to hear hard truths.Pretending that
problems do not exist can weaken trust just as much as 63 (drop)truth
bombs can.And failing to address problems in relationships can lead to
resentment(怨恨),which may eventually boil over into conflict..By
presenting truth and addressing problems 64 a constructive way,you
can strengthen relationships and avoid the emotional damage that comes
from using65(over)blunt(直言的)words.

W:How lucky you were!Did the family have any children?
M:Yes,a boy aged 14 and a girl aged 12.And there is another international student who shared a room with
me.They were very kind. They spoke to me slowly and clearly so that I understood their English easily.
W:How were you getting on with your English?
M:Quite well.I feel my English greatly improved.
W:I hope I can go abroad to learn English in the future.
M:I hope you can,too.
(Text 10)
W:Now,I'll talk about Canadian history.I'm notan expert but I know enough about Canadian history.Jacques
Cartier discovered Canada. He was a French explorer back in the 16th century.Originally,Canada was
called New France. It was a colony of France and actually, the French were the first to colonize North
高考总复习·滚动综合卷·英语(三)·答案12
America, and the British then came over. There was a big war and the British won and that's why we're
speaking English now.If the French had won the big war,we'dall be studying French. It's kind of funny.
In Quebec they still speak French.Actually Montreal is the second largest French speaking city in the
world, only behind paris. There are about seven million people in Quebec who speak French as their first
language. Many Canadians speak French because it's taught in schools, and Canada has two
officiallanguages,French and English. The French and the English don't really get along but they actually
tried to separate a couple of times and they votedon separating.50.8%of people voted in favour of staying.
So Quebec is staying in Canada as far as I can tell.

第一节
One possible version:
Dear Jim,
I'm glad to know that you are going to take part in the short video contest"Charming China",and I'd like to
share some of my ideas with you.
Maybe you can make a video about the Shougang Big Air Venue, which now provides recreational activities
for the public after the Winter Olympics. There you can experience driverless vehicles. Those cute autonomous
cars, which integrate artificial intelligence,5G and Beidou technologies, are used to transport visitors, sell and
deliver goods and conduct security patrols. You will impress your audience by filming the vehicles rapidly and
accurately reach users and destinations, saving manpower and time.
I'm sure your workwill be absolutely eye-catching and prize-winning!Looking forward to your good news!
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节
One possible version:
Wordlessly,I hand it over. Then my daughter reaches for the phone."Hi,Grandma!"I hear my mother
exclaim through the receiver:"Sweetheart! How are you?Did you go to school today?"What witchcraft is this?
All she says is "Hi!Grandma!",and my mother sounds like a person fully alert to the heartbeat of a normal
day. Then, out of the phone comes a waterfall of good cheers. My mother tells her how much she loves her and
how lovely her voice sounds."Do you want to listen to me sing?"My daughter offers to sing. Then she begins.
I listen to my daughter singing to her grandmother, caring for her with patience. Her singing is so moving
and gentle, soothing my anxiety. After many kissing noises, they eventually hang up.Words fail me when I see
the smile still curving on her face.A moment later, containing my emotion,I tell my daughter it is bath time.
She wildly protests, but I draw the bath away.I am still Mommy, after all,and she is still five. And yet
tonight, she taught me how to answer like a grown-up.I should have shown more patience, just like what she
does.
