Wang Ji, a professor from the National University of Defense Technology, was honored as a national “Role Model of the Times”. For over forty years, he has devoted himself to improving software for national defense (国防). Though serious illnesses have forced him to use a wheelchair for years, he never gives up.    1    

Wang entered university in 1983 and chose computer science to serve his country. He explored high-confidence software engineering (高可信软件工程), a field few studied then. Later, he created tools to find hidden problems in national-defense software.    2    These achievements made him a leading expert.

Everything changed suddenly in 2013 when he suffered a deadly blood disease and had a 13-hour operation.
