The idea that you can use humor, laughter, and play to make you healthier probably seems too simple to be true. However, it is really true and simple. The sense of humor, laughter and play plays an important part in keeping you healthy.
Treat the blues with a sense of humor, which is closely tied to laughter. Laughter is infectious. Have you ever heard a big laugh of a young child and been able to keep yourself from smiling? When laughter is shared between people, it makes them closer to each other and increases their happiness. Smiling is the beginning of laughter and a smile is also just as infectious as laughter is. You can experience something by smiling at everyone around you, and you will feel happier just by sharing a smile, even with a stranger.
Play is an important part of making sure that we stay healthy. We are often encouraged to make sure our children play, and are told of the benefits of being out playing. However, what we often forget is that it is just as important for old people to make play be part of their life as it’s for children. Physical play is important for the old and it certainly helps prevent illness. While the studies are still in the early stages, the studies that have been done have shown that physical play certainly plays a part in preventing cognitive (认知的) falling.
Anyway, adding humor, laughter, and play to our life will influence us mentally, physically and socially and bring us many advantages. So we should make full use of humor, laughter and play to make our life more active, more interesting and happier.
4. What does the underlined word “infectious” in Paragraph 2 probably mean?
A. Playing an important role. B. Keeping people in high spirits.
C. Quickly influencing other people. D. Preventing illness from spreading.
5. What can laughter increase according to the author?
A. Cognitive ability. B. Good relationships.
C. A sense of humor. D. Happiness and trust.
6. What does the author think the old should do?
A. They should have a good rest.
B. They should play like children.
C. They should prevent cognitive falling.
D. They should take part in physical play.
7. Which of the following would be the best title for the text?
A. Humor, Laughter and Play for Health B. Always Keep Our Body Healthy
C. Have an Active and Happy Life D. Let Our Body and Mind Relax
C
For the first time since the Apollo era, humans are preparing not just to visit the moon, but to live and work there for weeks, months, and eventually years. A new era of deep space exploration is arriving. Rather than brief “flags and footprints” missions, the US Artemis program aims, finally, to establish a lasting human presence on and around the moon, beginning at the lunar South Pole.
Artemis Ⅱ carrying four astronauts finished its 10-day mission around the moon in April 2026. As the first manned flight, it is designed to test that life support systems, navigation (导航), heat protection, and deep space operations function safely. NASA will keep investing in a lunar base to support longer stays.
However, living on the moon will challenge every organ system in the human body. The lunar environment exposes (暴露) astronauts to the combined set of physical, chemical, biological, and psychological stress encountered beyond Earth. These include reduced gravity, long-time exposure to cosmic radiation, extreme temperature swings, harmful lunar dust, and disturbed sleep-wake cycles.
The good news is that humans are highly adaptable. Scientists are using safe methods to support adaptation. Exercise is the key to keeping astronauts healthy, and lunar systems must be redesigned for partial gravity. Personalized nutrition (营养) also plays an important role in protecting bones, muscles and the immune system. New experiments are being tested to support cardiovascular health.
Living on the moon is demanding but exciting. The moon is not just a destination, it is a test of our biology. If we can stay healthy and productive on the moon, we will move closer to becoming a truly spaceflight species. Artemis demonstrates that exploration now centers around sustainability (可持续性), adaptability, and understanding ourselves as deeply as the worlds we seek to explore. In mastering how to live on the lunar surface, humanity may well uncover deep understanding about life on Earth alongside our destiny among the stars.
8. What’s the final purpose of NASA’s Artemis program?
A. To make humans live on the moon. B. To establish a lunar research base.
C. To test the lunar environment. D. To explore planets near the moon.
9. Why is “every organ system” mentioned in paragraph 3?
A. To prove there are no living creatures on the moon.
B. To stress lunar environment’s threats to human health.
C. To demonstrate the mental effects of longer lunar stay.
D. To show the urgent need to protect the immune system.
10. What’s the author’s attitude towards living on the moon?
A. Doubtful. B. Unfavorable. C. Uncaring. D. Hopeful.
11. What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A. Humans will soon move to live on other planets.
B. The moon is the last boundary (边界) of space exploration.
C. Lunar living helps us understand Earth and human future.
D. Space exploration focuses on sustainability and adaptability.

From 2025 to 2026, the global climate has shown an increasingly unstable trend, with frequent extreme weather events such as sudden heavy rainstorms, prolonged (持续时间很长的) high temperatures, rare cold waves and strong unstable stormy weather sweeping across many regions. These climate disasters have caused huge losses to people’s lives and property, making “adaptation to extreme climate and scientific survival” a hot topic widely discussed by the public in 2026.
Faced with frequent extreme weather, some people hold a negative attitude, believing that individual power is too small to resist natural disasters, so they do nothing to prepare. This kind of thought is extremely dangerous. In fact, every individual can take simple and effective measures to protect themselves and their families. For instance, families can prepare special emergency survival supplies containing bottled water, compressed biscuits (压缩饼干), flashlights, batteries, first-aid supplies and warm blankets, which can support life for 3 to 5 days when trapped by disasters.
Others over-rely on government rescue and modern scientific and technological means, ignoring individual subjective initiative. While government rescue teams and advanced weather forecast systems play a key role in disaster prevention and relief, they often need time to arrive at disaster areas. During this period, individual survival awareness and skills determine whether people can survive safely. For example, in the sudden urban flooding caused by heavy rain, people who know how to avoid lowland areas, underground spaces and fast-flowing water are far less likely to be in danger.
Scientific survival in the context of extreme climate requires the joint efforts of individuals, communities and the government. Individuals should take the initiative to learn climate survival knowledge and participate in community emergency training; communities should establish disaster early warning mechanisms and set clear escape routes and shelters; the government should strengthen infrastructure (基础设施) construction to resist disasters and spread useful life-saving knowledge through media, communities and schools.
Extreme climate is a severe challenge faced by all mankind, but it is not unconquerable. As long as everyone establishes a sense of crisis, masters scientific survival methods, and makes sufficient preparations, we can greatly reduce the harm caused by extreme weather. Protecting ourselves in extreme climate is not only responsible for our own lives, but also a kind of social responsibility to maintain social stability.
12. What has led to public discussion on scientific survival?
A. Shortage of natural resources. B. Poor public safety management.
C. Frequent extreme climate disasters. D. Public concern over property prices.
13. What does paragraph 3 mainly emphasize?
A. Government rescue is often inefficient.
B. Government rescue cannot cover all disaster areas.
C. Individuals’ self-rescue ability matters before rescue arrives.
D. Modern technology is more reliable than government rescue.
14. What is the author’s attitude towards dealing with extreme climate disasters?
A. Pessimistic. B. Objective. C. Distrustful. D. Indifferent.
15. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Wrong Opinions on Fighting Against Extreme Weather
B. Scientific Survival Skills Reduce Natural Disaster Damage
C. Serious Damages Brought about by Global Extreme Climate
D. Three Parties’ Responsibilities in Natural Disaster Prevention

Just after midnight, Grace awoke to the smell of smoke. At first, she thought her daughter Emma might be making a pancake.
“What are you burning out there?” shouted Grace.
“It’s not me!” Emma shouted back from the bedroom. “The smoke woke me up too.”
Grace was four months pregnant (怀孕的), but she quickly slipped out of bed and headed for the kitchen. Fortunately, nothing was burnt. Then, she touched the doorknob, wondering what was happening outside. However, when she opened it, choking smoke rushed into her nose. She then quickly shut the door.
“We’re going to die!” cried Emma. Taking a deep breath, Grace told Emma everything would be fine, and moved as fast as she could to the bathroom for some wet towels. Covering their noses and mouths, the two moved forward with their hands and knees on the floor.
As they made their way through the smoke, Grace was shocked to see her neighbor Mary lying outside her apartment on the third floor, her young daughter Alice shaking her continuously. Mary was a nurse at a hospital featuring traditional Chinese medicine. She offered many professional suggestions when Grace was expecting the baby. Having checked Mary was not responding, Grace grabbed the little girl's hand and said in a hurry, “Let’s get out first! We’ll come back for your mommy!” Hesitant though Alice was, she followed Grace to the fire exit near their apartments.
When they went down to the front yard, many neighbors had gathered. Some were calling emergency services while a middle-aged man, a colleague of Mary, wrapped Alice in a coat and asked, “Where’s your mommy?” Raising her eyes, Alice pointed to the building and burst into tears. “I can’t let Alice grow up without a mother,” thought Grace. Looking up, she could see black smoke pouring from an apartment on the sixth floor, which was just above Mary's apartment. Now or never.
Mind racing, the pregnant mother had a plan.

【答案】4. C 5. B 6. D 7. A

【答案】8. A 9. B 10. D 11. C

【答案】范文
Mind racing, the pregnant mother had a plan. Carrying Mary down was the fastest option, so Grace started tying the wet towel to her face and neck, with a bit of hesitation. Seeing what she was doing, the man offered to join her, which lifted her spirits. Braving the thickening smoke, the two managed to locate Mary and carried her out safely. When they got out, the ambulance had been waiting, and they followed the emergency services to the hospital. Crossing her fingers, Grace felt her hands sweating and heart pounding, praying everything would be fine. Fortunately, Mary would recover soon and Grace’s baby was safe. Words failed Alice who kept bowing to express her gratitude.
Eight months after the fire, Grace heard a knock on her door. Since she was preparing food in the kitchen, Emma went and opened the door. After a click popped Mary and Alice, with milk powder, diapers and herbal remedies for nourishment. “How have you been, Emma?” Mary grinned. Hearing the familiar voice, Grace wiped her hands and greeted her neighbor. “I am so happy you gave birth to a girl. Congratulations!” said Mary. Caught by surprise, Grace cupped her mouth and invited them to stay for dinner. Seated at the table, the two family enjoyed a cozy meal, accompanied by Emma’s signature pancake. “Without your help, we wouldn’t have been here. Thank you Grace,” Mary choked, proposing a toast. “That’s what friends would do!” giggled Grace.
