B.Not many have life-saving skills.
C.They learn early how to save lives.
What is the speaker mainly talking about?
A.Research on first aid.
B.Where first aid is taught.
C.Teaching first aid to children.
【答案】18.B 19.B 20.C
First aid training is important — and the earlier you learn it, the better. As a doctor, I know that not only does first aid training help others, but it also improves young people’s confidence and willingness to act in time of a dangerous situation. You’re never too young to start learning how to save a life. In an emergency, every second counts. Lack of confidence is the main reason why adults don’t react. I hope this won’t happen in the next generation. Our courses help children to learn first aid in a safe environment. Life is changeable — we never know what’s around the corner. At any moment, someone could need our help. However, only a third of British adults say they would attempt first aid. This may be why only 1 in 10 people survive an out-of-hospital heart attack. In countries where first aid is taught in schools, as many as 1 in 4 people survive. First aid is a skill a child can build on. It can even encourage young people into health care jobs.

(本题10分)An unexpected accident took place during a regular pool therapy class. Twelve-year-old Austen from Florida saved his therapist Jason Piquette. At the beginning of the class, Jason suddenly felt dizzy and sank underwater. While other adults nearby froze in panic, Austen immediately recognized how dangerous the situation was.
Without hesitation, the 12-year-old dived into action, pulling his therapist to the pool’s edge and beginning chest compressions He stayed calm and used the right skills, which shocked all onlookers. No one thought a kid of his age knew exactly what to do.
When asked how he knew to perform CPR, Austen credited an unexpected source: the hit Netflix series Stranger Things. In Season One, the characters saved a person with standard chest compressions, and he clearly remembered every step. “I watched them count while pressing and kept going until the person breathed again, so I followed that,” Austen told reporters.
Thanks to the boy’s quick response, Jason made a full recovery. He calls the boy his “angel”. Jason said, “I owe my life to this incredible young man. He didn’t just save me; he gave me back to my family.”
Dr. Sarah Chen, an emergency medicine physician, praised Austen’s actions while highlighting an important point about modern media. “This shows that children are absorbing information from everywhere, including TV shows. When accurate medical procedures are shown in entertainment, it can really save lives.”
The local fire department has honored Austen with a civilian hero award. As for Austen, he remains humble. Since the incident, he has become an advocate for CPR education. “I want other kids to know they can help too,” Austen said. “You don’t have to be an adult to save someone’s life. You just need to know what to do and not be afraid to try.”

(本题10分)Rice, the world’s common staple food, is now being used to produce a life-saving medicine. Scientists at Healthgen Biotechnology, a Chinese company in Wuhan, Hubei province, are genetically engineering rice plants to create human serum albumin (HSA,人血清白蛋白), an important blood protein.
HSA is the smallest but most common protein in blood. Produced by the liver, it helps keep the right balance of fluids (液体) between blood vessels (血管) and surrounding tissues. A lack of such proteins can cause serious medical problems.
HSA is vital for treating burns, severe bleeding, and certain cancers. Traditionally, it comes from donated human blood, but supply is limited. In China, over 60% of HSA needed had to be imported. Yang Daicheng, founder of Healthgen, told China Daily, “We put human genes into the rice plant to produce HSA.” As the rice grows, HSA is made and stored in the seeds, which are then harvested to derive the protein. This approach, known as molecular farming (分子农业), turns rice into a “protein factory”.
This technology offers key advantages. It does not depend on blood donations, avoiding any risk of spreading viruses from donors. It is also cost-effective because increasing production simply means planting more rice. Furthermore, dried rice seeds can be stored for years without the protein losing its effectiveness, and the genetic stability of rice ensures consistent quality.
The company’s progress has been rapid. Early versions of their modified rice produced 2.75 grams of HSA per kilogram. Through improved technology, yield (产量) has risen to 30 grams per kilogram, with a goal of over 40 grams. The company now produces one million doses of its rice-made HSA drug each year and a new facility is set to open soon. When completed, it will produce 130 tons of HSA annually, potentially replacing a quarter of China’s HSA imports.
The success with rice opens doors for molecular farming using other plants. For example, soybeans are being engineered to produce proteins for making animal-free cheese.
What can we learn about HSA from the text?
A.It speeds up the recovery of wounds.
B.It helps regulate the balance of body fluids.
C.It is generated by heart to aid blood circulation.
D.It is transported by blood vessels to build body tissues.
What does the underlined word “derive” in paragraph 3 mean?
A.Obtain B.Demonstrate C.Transform D.Remove
What problem does molecular farming help address?
A.The safety risk of genetic engineering. B.The decrease of rice production in China.
C.The shortage of blood-based HSA supply. D.The rising cost of importing medical drugs.
What can be inferred about the Healthgen’s future development?
A.It plans to export HSA products abroad.
B.It has achieved its target HSA yield from rice.
C.It will probably reduce China’s dependence on imported HSA.
D.It will shift its focus to producing animal-free cheese with soybeans.
【答案】28.B 29.A 30.C 31.C
根据第二段“HSA is the smallest but most common protein in blood. Produced by the liver, it helps keep the right balance of fluids (液体) between blood vessels (血管) and surrounding tissues.(HSA是血液中分子最小但分布最广的蛋白质。由肝脏分泌而成,它有助于维持血管与周围组织之间液体的恰当比例)”可知,HSA有助于调节体液的平衡。
29.词句猜测题。根据划线词上文“As the rice grows, HSA is made and stored in the seeds, which are then harvested to(随着水稻的生长,HSA会在种子中形成并储存起来,随后这些种子会被收获……)”
根据第四段“This technology offers key advantages. It does not depend on blood donations, avoiding any risk of spreading viruses from donors.(这项技术具有显著的优势。它无需依赖血液捐赠,从而避免了因献血者而传播病毒的任何风险)”可知,分子农业能够解决血液中的人血白蛋白供应短缺问题。
31.推理判断题。根据最后一段“The success with rice opens doors for molecular farming using other plants. For example, soybeans are being engineered to produce proteins for making animal-free cheese.(水稻种植的成功为利用其他植物进行分子农业开辟了道路。例如,大豆正被改造以生产用于制造不含动物成分奶酪的蛋白质)”可知,Healthgen公司未来可能会降低我国对HSA进口的依赖。
(本题10分)“Being honest is a characteristic of Finnish (芬兰的) culture — at least if we compare it to other cultures,” said Johannes Kananen, a lecturer at the Swedish School of Science at the University of Helsinki. “In English there is a saying that the truth is so valuable that it should be used sparingly. But in Finland, people speak the truth all the time.”
A few years ago, Reader’s Digest did a “Lost Wallet Test”, where their reporters “lost” 192 wallets in cities across the world. Each wallet had $50 with contact information, family photos and business cards. Eleven out of every 12 wallets dropped in Helsinki, the Finnish capital, were returned to their owners, making it the most “honest” city of those tested.
“Truthfulness and honesty are greatly valued and respected,” Kananen said. He cites the example of the scandal (丑闻) that hit Finnish skiers when Finland hosted the FIS Nordic Ski Championship in 2001. Six top Finnish athletes got caught doping (服兴奋剂) and were disqualified. The scandal was covered in the national press as a matter of public shame, and there was a sense of collective embarrassment in the country.
“For the Finns, the worst thing about the doping scandal was not, however, the scandal itself,” reports an article published in The International Journal of the History of Sport. “The worst thing was that, along with the false image of honesty in sports in general, the myth of the honest, hardworking Finn came crashing down.”
Often, though, it comes down to simple matters of size. Gokul Srinivasan, a robotics engineer and entrepreneur living in Helsinki, explained that in a small community if someone is caught lying once, they won’t be considered trustworthy again. Though Finland is nearly three times bigger than England, it has just one-tenth its population — with most of the country’s 5.5 million residents concentrated in the urban centers in the south. As a result, there is a good chance that people in a specific field already know of each other.
What does the English saying probably mean?
A.Honesty is the best policy.
B.Tell the truth only when necessary.
C.The truth is hard to accept.
D.Try to be as honest as possible.
Why did Reader’s Digest organize the test?
A.To prove that Helsinki is the safest city.
B.To encourage people to return lost items.
C.To compare honest levels in different cities.
D.To know how people react to their lost wallets.
What does Gokul Srinivasan want to emphasize in the last paragraph?
A.The irregular spread of Finland’s population.
B.The advantages of living in a small community.
C.The differences between Finland and England.
D.The reason for the Finns appreciating honesty.
What is the main idea of the passage?
A.Finland’s small population shapes its honest culture.
B.Finns value honesty deeply, shown in various aspects.
C.A doping scandal damaged Finland’s national reputation.
D.International tests prove Finland’s honesty worldwide.
根据第一段中“In English there is a saying that the truth is so valuable that it should be used sparingly. (在英语中有一句谚语:真相如此宝贵,应该谨慎使用。)”及下文的对比“But in Finland, people speak the truth all the time. (但在芬兰,人们总是说真话。)”可知,这句英语谚语的意思是只在必要时讲真话。
33.细节理解题。根据第二段中“A few years ago, Reader’s Digest did a “Lost Wallet Test”, where their reporters “lost” 192 wallets in cities across the world. Each wallet had $50 with contact information, family photos and business cards. Eleven out of every 12 wallets dropped in Helsinki, the Finnish capital, were returned to their owners, making it the most “honest” city of those tested. (几年前,《读者文摘》进行了一项“丢失钱包测试”,记者们在全球多个城市“丢失”了192个钱包。每个钱包里装有50美元,以及联系方式、家庭照片和名片。在芬兰首都赫尔辛基丢失的钱包中,每12个就有11个被归还给了失主,这使得赫尔辛基成为所有测试城市中最“诚实”的城市。)”可知,该测试的目的是比较不同城市的诚实水平。
34.推理判断题。根据最后一段中“Gokul Srinivasan, a robotics engineer and entrepreneur living in Helsinki, explained that in a small community if someone is caught lying once, they won’t be considered trustworthy again. (居住在赫尔辛基的机器人工程师兼企业家Gokul Srinivasan解释说,在一个小社区里,如果某人被抓到说谎一次,他们就再也不会被认为值得信赖了。)”以及“As a result, there is a good chance that people in a specific field already know of each other.

Once strangers, David Whitson and Allie Reimold are now lifelong friends bonded by a life-saving gift.
Four years earlier, as an 18-year-old behavioral sciences undergraduate, Allie had helped organize the Purdue University Dance Marathon to raise money for an Indiana children’s hospital. During the 16-hour event, she’d joined the National Marrow Donor Program, a global nonprofit assisting bone marrow (骨髓) and stem cell transplants for patients with life-threatening blood cancers. Allie knows it’s of great significance. Some 18,000 Americans are diagnosed each year with a life-threatening illness — including leukemia (白血病), lymphoma, sickle cell disease and more than 70 others — that could be treated with a marrow or blood cell transplant, according to the Health Resources and Services Administration. But some patients, the federal agency says, will never find a match.
David was just 44 when he went from incredibly healthy to being on a ventilator(呼吸机). When his cold turned into a fever, David rushed to an emergency room. He explained to the doctor that “something was seriously wrong” because the left side of his body was in pain. A CT scan and other tests revealed his poor physical condition. Acute myeloid leukemia — a rare, fast-growing blood and bone marrow cancer originating from abnormal blood stem cells — tends to affect older adults, according to Yale Medicine.
He broke down when two more rounds of chemotherapy (化疗) failed to fight the illness. But if he found the right match, David’s cancerous Type B-positive blood could be replaced. It could return him to health. But finding a donor match can be challenging: Only about 30% of patients have a relative who can donate; for the rest, doctors search national and international donor registries, according to the Cleveland Clinic. Siblings (兄弟姐妹) are often the best matches because they have the same biological parents. But David’s brother wasn’t an ideal match. So, his doctors tried the registries.
Allie got the call.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
The bone marrow was quickly transported to David’s hospital and the operation was successful.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
One possible version:
Allie got the call. When she learned her blood matched someone in need, she was excited. Despite the potential discomfort and dangers during the bone marrow donation process, she knew she had to do it. She remembered the reason she joined the National Marrow Donor Program — to help those in need of a life. Allie immediately began the necessary preparations. There were numerous medical tests to ensure she was a perfect match and in good health for the donation. The process was long and a bit tiring, but her determination never changed. Soon Allie was pushed to the operating room.
The bone marrow was quickly transported to David’s hospital and the operation was successful. David was filled with gratitude for this unknown donor, who was willing to go through so much for a stranger. Over the next few weeks and months, David’s condition gradually improved. The once-pale and weak man began to regain his strength. As soon as David was well enough, he expressed his strong desire to meet his donor. With the help of the medical staff, David finally saw Allie. They hugged each other tightly, and two strangers had become close friends through this incredible act of kindness.

What happened to Jason when the class began?
A.He was hurt by an adult. B.He saved a boy in the pool.
C.He was drowning in water. D.He got his head badly injured.
Where did Austen learn the skills of CPR?
A.From a TV show. B.From an online course.
C.From a medical book. D.From his school teacher.
What can we conclude from Dr. Sarah Chen’s words?
A.Social media should be widely promoted.
B.Medical skills need to be taught at school.
C.Kids can learn useful skills from TV programs.
D.Kids must stay away from entertainment shows.
What can we learn about Austen from the last paragraph?
A.He thinks saving lives is adults’ duty.
B.He stresses the importance of modesty.
C.He takes pride in receiving the award.
D.He hopes more kids learn life-saving skills.
