When the bus picked us up from the school gate at six in the morning, IT was raining heavily, which wasn't great. However, IT hadn't rained in the forest. That was important because we needed dry places for our first survival activity, building shelters. There were three leaders, each responsible for ten students. After we were divided into three groups, we started collecting broken tree branches and leaves to build our shelters. Then we ate a light breakfast we had prepared at home. After breakfast, we learned how to build a fire safely. For lunch, we had hot dogs and potatoes cooked over the fire. After lunch, we put out the fire and got ready to look for food in the forest. Our leader showed us which foods were safe. We returned late in the afternoon. Each group made their own camp fire and learned to cook soup for supper over the fire with the things we had collected. IT was delicious. We all enjoy the trip. HiMCM & MidMCM Contest Information
The High School Mathematical Contest in Modeling (HiMCM) and the Middle Mathematical Contest in Modeling (MidMCM) are international team competitions that enhance students’ mathematical modeling, problem-solving, and academic writing skills. The problems are designed to be solvable using standard school-level mathematics.
The 2026 season marks the 29th HiMCM and the 6th MidMCM. HiMCM is open to all high school students and below, whereas MidMCM is restricted to participants aged 14.5 years or younger on the contest start date. Teams should consist of no more than four members. Schools can enter an unlimited number of teams, and a single advisor may oversee multiple teams.
During a 14-day window (November 4-17), each team selects one problem, constructs a mathematical model, and submits a written solution online. Past HiMCM problems have covered a wide range of topics: designing an objective ranking system for roller coasters, arranging drone formations for sky light displays, choosing best warehouse locations for one-day ground shipping, planning triathlon routes to minimize road closures, and determining the most secure art gallery layout. Past MidMCM problems have included designing a dog park, scheduling group visits to Polygon Paradise Park, and preparing for Olympic medal ceremonies.
Participants benefit by applying classroom mathematics to authentic challenges while strengthening teamwork and technical communication. Many teachers integrate the contest into coursework, club activities, or simply as an engaging challenge.

There’s always one nonexistent friend in the group chat, loitering in the background, whose contribution to the chat remains minimal, if not extinct. That friend is me.
As long as I can remember having a phone, I’ve been a terrible replier. The phrase “Sorry I missed this” became my go-to line. When a new group chat is created, the members will always come to laugh at my inability to respond to a simple question within hours.
But I’m not terrible at replying to everyone. I pride myself on quick responses to work emails, my manager, and my mom — she even says, “I feel privileged to be on my daughter’s quick list.” To friends, I say, “Call me instead.” They know if it’s urgent, I’ll pick up right away. But if I mark a message as “non-urgent,” it’s a different story.
Group chats are even harder: conversations move so fast that missing just five minutes means I’m behind on 67 messages about parties, movies or dates. Once, I set aside 15 minutes to respond to friends’ texts. But by the time I responded, they had messaged back. And I filed those new messages as non-urgent again. All of this was like message quicksand.
Recently, I asked Billy about my bad texting. He’s that one friend you can always rely on to give you the non-sugarcoated truth: “You take 3-5 days to reply if we’re lucky.” Ouch — but probably not wrong. Then he added, “But you always show up, never cancel, and drive 40 minutes to see us.”
Now I think about our group roles — the chatty one, the caller, the non-responder. All contribute and express love in different ways.
As I write this article, I wonder if my terrible texting could be a sign of my old age? Or I’m just bad at replying to messages? There’s a lot to think about — and I can promise you this thinking will take my attention away from the 219 messages I haven’t answered yet.
What can be inferred about the author as a responder from paragraphs 2 and 3?
A.She feels stressed to reply. B.She puts the vital first.
C.She prefers calling to texting. D.She fails to reply to friends.
25.What does the underlined word “quicksand” in paragraph 4 refer to?
A.A list often ignored. B.An endless cycle.
C.A game of rapid replies. D.A tool for classification.
26.Why does the author mention Billy in paragraph 5?
A.To show her friends are tolerant. B.To stress she’s made efforts in texting.
C.To prove her texting habit causes problems. D.To show her texting doesn’t hurt her friendship.
27.What is the author’s tone?
A.Humorous. B.Formal. C.Doubtful. D.Concerned.
【答案】24.B 25.B 26.D 27.A
根据第二段中的“As long as I can remember having a phone, I’ve been a terrible replier.(从我记得有手机开始,我就一直是个糟糕的回复者。)”和第三段中的“I pride myself on quick responses to work emails, my manager, and my mom — she even says, “I feel privileged to be on my daughter’s quick list.” To friends, I say, “Call me instead.” They know if it’s urgent, I’ll pick up right away. But if I mark a message as “non-urgent,” it’s a different story. (我为自己能快速回复工作邮件、经理和妈妈的消息而感到自豪——她甚至说:“能在我女儿的快速回复名单里,我觉得很荣幸。”我对朋友们说:“有事打电话给我吧。”他们知道,如果事情紧急,我会立刻接听。但如果我把一条消息标记为“不紧急”,那就是另一回事了。)”可知,作者会把重要的、紧急的事情优先处理。故选B项。
25.词句猜测题。根据第四段中的“Once, I set aside 15 minutes to respond to friends’texts. But by the time I responded, they had messaged back. And I filed those new messages as non-urgent again. All of this was like message quicksand.(有一次,我留出15分钟回复朋友的短信。但等我回复时,他们又发来了消息。而我又把这些新消息归为不紧急。这一切就像消息quicksand。)”可知,这是一种回复不完、不断循环的状态,因此quicksand指的是“一种无休止的循环”。故选B项。
26.推理判断题。根据第五段中的“Then he added, “But you always show up, never cancel, and drive 40 minutes to see us.”(然后他补充道:“但你总会出现,从不爽约,还会开40分钟的车来看我们。”)”
通读全文,尤其是最后一段中的“As I write this article, I wonder if my terrible texting could be a sign of my old age? Or I’m just bad at replying to messages? There’s a lot to think about — and I can promise you this thinking will take my attention away from the 219 messages I haven’t answered yet.(当我写这篇文章时,我在想我糟糕的短信回复能力是不是我年纪大了的标志?还是我就是不擅长回消息?有很多事情要思考——而且我可以向你保证,这种思考会让我的注意力从还没回复的219条消息上移开。)”可知,作者用轻松自嘲的方式讲述自己的情况,语气幽默。故选A项。
(本题10分)There’s little doubt that participating in sports brings many health benefits for kids. According to a recent study, boys who play sports during their early childhood are less likely to experience emotional stress, including signs of depression and anxiety, later in life compared to boys who didn’t participate in sports.
Marie-losée Harbec did the research for the study as a doctoral student. Along with her professor, she analyzed data taken from a Quebec group of 690 boys and 748 girls who were born in 1997 and 1998. The information they looked at was reported by parents of the children and included the kids’ physical activity at 5 years old and 12 years old. They also reviewed reports from the children’s teachers about signs of emotional stress seen in the kids from ages 6 to 10 years.
The researchers discovered that participating in sports in preschool might help boys develop life skills, such as joining in teamwork, practicing self-control and building supportive relationships. Besides, they discovered that joining in sports helps boys with their emotional health, and that emotionally well boys join more often in physical activity.
However, the researchers didn’t find any obvious relationship between girls’ participation in sports and their emotional health. She points to one explanation being that girls are more likely than boys to look for help from and share their emotional stress with family, friends, or healthcare providers.
While the researchers didn’t measure whether the kids they analyzed were good at the sport they joined in, they did measure their physical fitness at age 12. They discovered that boys who had lower levels of depressive and anxiety signs between ages 6 and10 years were the ones who were the most physically fit at age 12. “We could say that physically active kids probably have better physical fitness,” says Harbec.
Harbec believes schools should provide different after-class team sports and physical activities beginning in kindergarten. She says: “Parents also should join in promoting physical activity and sport participation among youth by acting as role models and taking part in their children’s activities.”
Why does the author mention the children’s parents and teachers in Paragraph 2?
A.To show the only way to get data.
B.To show the support for the research.
C.To show the collected data were reliable.
D.To show the information was hard to get.
Why do girls fail to get obvious mental health benefits from sports?
A.They are much emotionally stronger than boys.
B.They are better at getting psychological support.
C.They have a larger and better social circle in life.
D.They are used to emotional stress earlier than boys.
What is Harbec’s advice for parents?
A.Spend more time with children.
B.Look for a role model for children.
C.Force children to exercise regularly.
D.Keep physically active with their children.
What is the main idea of the passage?
A.Girls benefit more from regular exercise.
B.Exercise frequency influences children’s mental health.
C.Sports competence is connected with less depression risk.
D.Boys’ childhood sports prevent later anxiety and depression.
根据第二段中的“The information they looked at was reported by parents of the children and included the kids’ physical activity at 5 years old and 12 years old. They also reviewed reports from the children’s teachers about signs of emotional stress seen in the kids from ages 6 to 10 years.(他们所研究的信息由孩子的家长上报,包含孩子5岁和12岁时的体育活动情况。他们还查阅孩子老师的报告,了解孩子们6‑10岁的情绪压力表现。)”可知,研究同时参考家长、老师两方记录,以此保证收集的数据是可靠的。
29.细节理解题。根据第四段中的“She points to one explanation being that girls are more likely than boys to look for help from and share their emotional stress with family, friends, or healthcare providers.(她给出一种解释:相比男孩,女孩更倾向于向家人、朋友或医护人员寻求帮助、倾诉情绪压力。)”
根据第六段中的“Parents also should join in promoting physical activity and sport participation among youth by acting as role models and taking part in their children’s activities.(家长也应当以身作则,参与孩子的活动,共同促进青少年的体育活动和体育参与。)”
根据第一段中的“boys who play sports during their early childhood are less likely to experience emotional stress, including signs of depression and anxiety, later in life compared to boys who didn’t participate in sports.(与不参加运动的男孩相比,幼年参与体育运动的男孩日后产生抑郁、焦虑等情绪压力的可能性更低。)”
(本题10分)In countries where sporting success carries national prestige, young athletes may learn early that winning is the clearest measure of progress. Canada’s elite ice-hockey (冰球) system has certainly produced world-class players. Yet a 2026 study suggests that the very culture that helps identify and push talented teenagers may also narrow the meaning of development too far.
Researchers interviewed six coaches known for helping athletes succeed both on and off the ice. Their argument was not that competitive standards should be lowered. Rather, they questioned the assumption that technical skill, selection and victories must compete with character, leadership and psychological well-being for attention. Several believed the opposite: players who learn to communicate, cooperate and handle pressure may ultimately become stronger athletes as well as more capable adults.
The difficulty is that the incentives (激励制度) surrounding teenage hockey often point in another direction. As players approach eligibility (资格赛) for major junior drafts, immediate results become highly visible to families, coaches and scouts. Training intensifies (强度加大), opportunities feel scarce, and a short period of poor performance can seem costly. Under those conditions, a victory-first mentality can appear reasonable. Supporters might argue that elite sport is, by definition, demanding, and that shielding promising players from pressure could leave them unprepared for professional competition.
However, the coaches in the study warned that pressure can become self-defeating when it produces excessive training, burnout or unhealthy team environments. They also rejected the idea that organizations must choose between producing better people and producing better players. The more useful question, they suggested, is what kind of culture allows both goals to reinforce each other. That would require more than a few inspirational talks. Clear coaching principles, consistent expectations, stronger support networks and greater parental involvement may all be necessary, especially before competitive pressures rise significantly in the mid-teen years.
The study is small and based on interviews rather than long-term performance data, so it cannot prove that it will guarantee more victories. Still, it raises a difficult sporting question: if a system creates champions but damages some of the young people passing through it, should success be measured only by who reaches the top?
What view do some coaches question?
A.Young athletes are becoming less ambitious.

A.Too much training often causes burnout.
B.Competitive pressure may harm team culture.
C.Player development depends mainly on team culture.
D.Sporting success and personal growth can be combined.
What is the best title for the text?
A.How Does Pressure Shape Young Hockey Players?
B.Why Does Winning Matter in the Youth Hockey?
C.What Makes a Young Hockey Player Successful?
D.How Can Hockey Develop Better Young Players?
根据第二段“They questioned the assumption that technical skill, selection and victories must compete with character, leadership and psychological well-being for attention.(他们质疑这样一种假设:技术、选拔和胜利必须与品格、领导力和心理健康争夺关注)”可知,一些教练质疑的是“竞技卓越与个人成长彼此冲突”这一看法。
根据上文“The difficulty is that the incentives (激励制度) surrounding teenage hockey often point in another direction. As players approach eligibility (资格赛) for major junior drafts, immediate results become highly visible to families, coaches and scouts. Training intensifies (强度加大), opportunities feel scarce, and a short period of poor performance can seem costly.(问题在于,青少年冰球的激励机制往往指向另一个方向。
根据第四段“However, the coaches in the study warned that pressure can become self-defeating when it produces excessive training, burnout or unhealthy team environments. They also rejected the idea that organizations must choose between producing better people and producing better players. The more useful question, they suggested, is what kind of culture allows both goals to reinforce each other. That would require more than a few inspirational talks. Clear coaching principles, consistent expectations, stronger support networks and greater parental involvement may all be necessary, especially before competitive pressures rise significantly in the mid-teen years.(然而,研究中的教练们警告称,当压力导致过度训练、倦怠或不健康的团队环境时,这种压力反而可能适得其反。他们还否定了组织必须在培养更优秀的人才和培养更优秀的球员之间做出选择的观点。他们认为,更有用的问题是:什么样的文化能让这两个目标相互促进?这需要的不仅仅是几次鼓舞人心的讲话。清晰的教练原则、一致的期望、更强的支持网络以及更广泛的家长参与,都可能是必要的,尤其是在青少年中期竞争压力显著上升之前)”可知,本段核心是竞技成功与个人成长可以结合。
35.主旨大意题。根据最后一段“Still, it raises a difficult sporting question: if a system creates champions but damages some of the young people passing through it, should success be measured only by who reaches the top?(然而,这引发了一个棘手的体育问题:如果一个体系造就了冠军,却损害了一些途经其中的年轻人,那么成功是否只能以谁登上顶峰来衡量?)”
Doing regular exercise is one of the best ways to keep healthy and energetic. However, many teenagers exercise blindly and develop bad workout habits. These small mistakes may cause tiredness or even sports injuries.
37 Many students skip meals to lose weight or exercise right after eating. This is very harmful to the stomach and heart. It is better to wait at least one hour after meals before doing any intense sports. Light walking is acceptable and helpful for digestion.
Keep a balanced exercise plan. Some students only train one single sport, such as running, every day. Too much repeated movement can stress the same body muscles and joints. 38 Different sports exercise different body parts and make your whole body stronger.
Never ignore cool‑down exercise. Most people pay full attention to training but forget to relax their bodies. After running or jumping, your muscles are tight and your heart beats fast. 39 It helps your body recover slowly and reduces soreness the next day.
40 Exercise is a long‑term journey. You cannot get healthy in one or two days. Keeping a regular light exercise habit is much better than exercising wildly on weekends and resting all weekdays.
A.Avoid exercising at the wrong time.
B.Here are some useful safe exercise habits for teenagers.
C.So you should try different kinds of sports.
D.Stick to regular daily exercise instead of sudden hard training.
E.You should stop exercise immediately when you feel happy.
F.A short cool‑down stretch is necessary after every workout.
G.It is great to do intense exercise immediately after dinner.

40.由下文“Exercise is a long‑term journey. You cannot get healthy in one or two days. Keeping a regular light exercise habit is much better than exercising wildly on weekends and resting all weekdays.(锻炼是一场长期的旅程。健康不是一两天就能获得的。保持规律的轻度运动习惯,远比周末疯狂运动、工作日全然休息要好得多。)”可知,本段强调坚持日常规律锻炼,不要突击高强度训练,D项“Stick to regular daily exercise instead of sudden hard training.(坚持日常规律锻炼,不要突击高强度训练。)”是本段小标题,概括本段内容。

【答案】Dear Mike,
Thank you for sharing your schedule with me. However, I think your current plan is a bit unbalanced. You spend too much time (120 minutes) on electronic entertainment, while your exercise time is far too short (only 10 minutes). Also, 70 minutes of study might not be enough for thorough revision.
I strongly suggest that you reduce screen time to 60 minutes and increase exercise to at least 40 minutes. Physical activity helps reduce eye strain and improves focus, which will actually boost your efficiency when you return to your homework. Remember, health is the foundation of good grades!
Hope this helps.
Yours,
Li Hua

The Last Pass
For two years, my life had revolved around the squeak of sneakers and the rhythmic bounce of a basketball. Making the school varsity team was supposed to be the crowning achievement of my sophomore year——validation of every early morning practice and every blister on my fingers. Yet, there I sat. With only three minutes left on the clock and a commanding twenty-point lead, Coach Thompson still hadn’t gestured toward the bench. I glanced down at my brand-new jersey, Number 12, still crisp and dry,my sneakers pristine. The roar of the home crowd felt like a distant ocean, separated from me by a thick pane of glass.
On the court, the starters moved like a well——oiled machine. Jake sank another three-pointer, igniting the stands. While my teammates celebrated, I replayed the ghosts of last Tuesday’s practice in my head: the clang of a missed layup, the embarrassing thud of a pass that hit the floor. I knew I wasn’t the sharpshooter Jake was, but I could pass. I could defend. I had spent months perfecting my footwork in the post. But Coach trusted the players who had built this lead, and I was invisible. When the final buzzer echoed like a gunshot, I forced the corners of my mouth into a smile and clapped along with the team. No one noticed that my palms hadn’t touched the ball once.
The locker room was a sauna of euphoria. Teammates sprayed water bottles like champagne, their laughter raw and hysterical. I quietly stuffed my damp towel and gear into my bag, trying to become part of the wall, to slip out unnoticed. Just then, Coach Thompson walked over, holding the game ball-scuffed and slick with sweat. He handed it to Jake, who had dropped thirty points. Jake lifted the ball high, flexing for the cameras, his grin wide. I turned away, biting my lip so hard I tasted copper.
“Hey,wait up,” a voice called through the chaos. It was Jake. He tossed the ball toward me. “Take this to the equipment room for me,will you?”
注意:
(1)所续写词数应为150词左右,段首部分已给出,不计入总词数;
I looked at the ball in my hands, feeling the sweat and grit from the game still clinging to its surface.

On Monday, Coach announced the next opponent. We would face Lincoln High, a much stronger team.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Possible Version 1 (Word count: 178):
I looked at the ball in my hands, feeling the sweat and grit from the game still clinging to its surface. My fingers traced the worn leather, and for a moment, I felt a strange intimacy with it——this ball had witnessed Jake’s glory, but it had also witnessed my loneliness. Instead of heading to the equipment room, I walked back to the empty court. Under the dim lights, I dribbled, pivoted, and shot. Again and again. Each swish of the net was a quiet promise to myself. I stayed until my jersey was soaked and my arms ached. That night, I decided I would no longer wait for permission——I would make myself impossible to ignore.
On Monday,Coach announced the next opponent. We would face Lincoln High,a much stronger team. During practice, I didn’t hang back. I called for the ball, set hard screens, and dove for loose balls. Coach’s eyes lingered on me a second longer than usual. When he finally pulled me aside and said, “Number 12, you’re in the rotation for Friday,” my heart pounded harder than any buzzer——beater. I knew this was my one shot. Not for fame, but to prove that the boy who carried the ball to the equipment room could also carry the team when it mattered.Possible Version 2(Word count: 205):
I looked at the ball in my hands, feeling the sweat and grit from the game still clinging to its surface. For a split second, bitterness rose in my throat——was this all I was good for? Carrying someone else’s trophy? But then I noticed something: the ball was worn evenly, not just from Jake’s shots, but from everyone’s passes, rebounds, and steals. It didn’t belong to one star; it belonged to the whole team. I walked to the equipment room slowly, cradling it like a relic. On the way, I passed Coach, who gave me a small nod. Maybe he saw more than I thought. That night, I texted Jake: “Great game. I’ll get your ball next time, too. ” He replied with a laughing emoji and a “You will.”
On Monday, Coach announced the next opponent. We would face Lincoln High, a much stronger team. The gym fell silent. Coach drew up a defensive scheme that required relentless rotation——no room for ego, only trust. He looked at me and said, “Number 12, you’re our anchor on defense.” My chest swelled, not with pride, but with purpose. When Friday came, I didn’t score a single point. But I took two charges, forced three turnovers, and made the pass that set up Jake’s game-winner. As the crowd roared, Jake threw me the ball and yelled, “Your turn to keep it.” This time, I held it not as an errand boy, but as a teammate.

B.Athletic training should come before education.
C.Sporting excellence conflicts with personal growth.
D.Personal qualities and athletic skills develop together.
What is the meaning of the underlined word “mentality”?
A.Habit. B.Rule. C.Capacity. D.Attitude.
What is the main idea of paragraph 4?
A.Too much training often causes burnout.
B.Competitive pressure may harm team culture.
C.Player development depends mainly on team culture.
D.Sporting success and personal growth can be combined.
What is the best title for the text?
A.How Does Pressure Shape Young Hockey Players?
B.Why Does Winning Matter in the Youth Hockey?
C.What Makes a Young Hockey Player Successful?
D.How Can Hockey Develop Better Young Players?
