Zhao designed her restaurant around the principle of sustainability. She uses digital menus and cloth napkins to decrease paper use, and any paper that is used is recyclable. She chooses local, seasonal and organic ingredients to reduce transportation and packaging. She also employs energy-efficient cooking methods and aims to minimize emissions. A school resource officer turned a failed summer field trip into an unforgettable memory for over 140 poor middle school students in Phoenix.
When the funding for the end-of-summer movie trip fell through unexpectedly, program coordinator Katie Jenkins was at a loss. She turned to Officer Sean Reavie for help. Without hesitation, Reavie paid out of his own pocket to rent a whole movie theatre for 144 seventh and eighth graders from Greenway Middle School’s after-school programme. He also covered snacks including popcorn, candies and drinks for the private screening of Toy Story 5. For most kids, this was their very first time stepping into a movie theatre.
The whole rental cost less than $2,000, yet the experience meant far more to these teenagers. Reavie said he would spare more money if needed, for he believed adults must never break promises made to children. Greenway is a Title I school, where most students come from financially disadvantaged families. Many have no private cars, and their parents hold several low-paying jobs to make ends meet. Half of these kids have never visited a water park, let alone travelled across the nearby highway.
Reavie has kept helping kids with his own money year after year. Last summer, he spent over $3,000 taking students to a local water park. Inspired by children’s fondness for superheroes, he also founded a charity called Put On The Cape: A Foundation For Hope, aiming to bring warmth to more troubled youngsters.
Before the movie rolled, Reavie shared a heartfelt wish with all the kids: grow up and pass on kindness to others as a return for what he had done. He expected nothing material in return, hoping this single act of generosity would plant seeds of kindness that would bloom (开花) for years to come.
Why did Jenkins ask Reavie for help?
A.All cinema tickets were sold out. B.She lacked money for the planned trip.
C.Some students refused to watch movies. D.The snacks prepared were far from enough.
25.Why did the author mention students’ family backgrounds in paragraph 3?
A.To illustrate the backwardness of local education.
B.To explain the expenses a family covered for the trip.
C.To praise Reavie for what he had done for the school.
D.To highlight the great value of the experience for kids.
26.Which of the following can best describe Reavie?
A.Generous and warm-hearted. B.Patient and humorous.
C.Modest and open-minded. D.Independent and reliable.
27.What was Reavie’s expectation for the kids?
A.To hold on to their dreams. B.To treasure every moment in life.
C.To spread kindness to more people. D.To seek personal material rewards.
【答案】24.B 25.D 26.A 27.C

根据第三段“Greenway is a Title I school, where most students come from financially disadvantaged families. Many have no private cars, and their parents hold several low-paying jobs to make ends meet. Half of these kids have never visited a water park, let alone travelled across the nearby highway. (格林威是一所Title I学校,大多数学生来自经济困难家庭。许多人没有私家车,他们的父母打几份低薪工作来维持生计。这些孩子中有一半从未去过水上公园,更不用说穿过附近的高速公路了。)”可知,作者提及学生的家庭背景是为了强调这次经历对孩子们的巨大价值——对于这些从未有过此类体验的孩子来说,这次电影之旅意义非凡。
26.推理判断题。根据第二段“Without hesitation, Reavie paid out of his own pocket to rent a whole movie theatre for 144 seventh and eighth graders from Greenway Middle School’s after-school programme. (Reavie毫不犹豫地自掏腰包,为格林威中学课后项目中的144名七年级和八年级学生包下了整个电影院。)”以及第四段“Reavie has kept helping kids with his own money year after year. Last summer, he spent over $3,000 taking students to a local water park. Home cooks like it. Restaurants include it in new dishes. It’s chili crisp (油辣椒), and it’s highly popular in the food world. The Chinese condiment (辛辣调味品) is a kitchen powerhouse known for its many different uses and heat. But how did the must-have condiment get started?
Originally from Central and South America, chilies were unknown in China until around the 16th century, when an increase in exploration and trade brought chilies to the Chinese mainland.
The first written record of the chili in China dates from 1591. Gao Lian, who lived near what is now Shanghai and wrote plays, wasn’t all that excited about it as a condiment or a medicine. Instead, he used it as a decorative plant. But while wealthy Chinese enjoyed chilies in their decorative gardens, the masses began eating and enjoying the plants. By 1765, chilies were widely used in dishes. There’s even a recipe for chili crisp in The Harmonious Cauldron, the earliest Chinese cookbook to include chilies.
Unlike other spices (调味品), chilies weren’t farmed and traded as goods. Instead, they were passed from person to person and grown in small fields, falling into the hands of skilled farmers who developed even better chilies over time. These chilies — and the condiment made by cooking them in oil — became must-have cooking materials all over China, becoming so widespread that they were considered part of the nation’s identity.
By the 20th century, chilies cooked in oil were a standard in homes and restaurants. But though the condiment was brought to the United States and served at Chinese restaurants, it was not until 1997 that chili crisp was produced and sold widely. That year, Tao Huabi began selling Lao Gan Ma Spicy Chili Crisp from China’s Guizhou Province. Over time, chili crisp has built a strong following around the world.
“You can learn a lot about a culture through food,” said Brian Dott, author of The Chile Pepper in China: A Cultural Biography. It seems the condiment won’t stop bringing the heat any time soon.
What did Gao Lian think of the chili?
A.It was a powerful medicine.
B.It was a must-have condiment.
C.It was a popular food.
D.It was a nice decoration.
29.What is paragraph 4 mainly about?
A.The introduction of chilies to China.
B.The development of chilies in China.
C.The influence of chilies on Chinese trade.
D.The popularity of chilies among wealthy Chinese.
30.What did Tao Huabi do in 1997?
A.She brought chili crisp to market.
B.She wrote a cookbook about chilies.
C.She used chili crisp in her restaurants.
D.She planted chilies throughout Guizhou.
31.What can we infer from the passage?
A.Chilies were first used as food by wealthy people in China.
B.Lao Gan Ma helped make chili crisp known worldwide.
C.Chili crisp is only popular in Chinese restaurants.
D.Chilies have been in China for over 600 years.
【答案】28.D 29.B 30.A 31.B
根据第三段“Gao Lian, who lived near what is now Shanghai and wrote plays, wasn’t all that excited about it as a condiment or a medicine. Instead, he used it as a decorative plant.(高濂住在现在上海附近,他写戏曲,他对它作为调味品或药物并不那么兴奋。相反,他把它当作装饰植物使用)”可知,高濂将辣椒用作装饰。
29.主旨大意题。根据第四段“Unlike other spices (调味品), chilies weren’t farmed and traded as goods. Instead, they were passed from person to person and grown in small fields, falling into the hands of skilled farmers who developed even better chilies over time. These chilies — and the condiment made by cooking them in oil — became must-have cooking materials all over China, becoming so widespread that they were considered part of the nation’s identity.(和其他调味品不同,辣椒并未作为商品种植和交易。相反,辣椒在民户间传播,在小块田地里种植,落到经验丰富的农民手中,随着时间推移逐步培育出了更优良的辣椒。这些辣椒,以及用油榨制而成的辛辣调味品,成为了全中国必不可少的烹饪原料,分布之广让它被认为是中国民族身份认同的一部分)”可知,第四段主要介绍了辣椒传入中国后在民间逐步发展、普及的过程,因此本段主要内容是辣椒在中国的发展。
30.细节理解题。根据第五段“it was not until 1997 that chili crisp was produced and sold widely. That year, Tao Huabi began selling Lao Gan Ma Spicy Chili Crisp from China’s Guizhou Province.(直到1997年,油辣椒才开始大规模生产和售卖。同年,陶华碧开始售卖产自中国贵州的老干妈油辣椒)”可知,1997年陶华碧将油辣椒推向市场大规模售卖。
31.推理判断题。根据第五段“That year, Tao Huabi began selling Lao Gan Ma Spicy Chili Crisp from China’s Guizhou Province. Over time, chili crisp has built a strong following around the world.(同年,陶华碧开始售卖产自中国贵州的老干妈油辣椒。久而久之,油辣椒在全球收获了大批爱好者)”可推知,老干妈品牌推动了油辣椒在世界范围内的知名度。
(本题10分)Plant‑based meats are coming soon to a dinner table near you, but do they deserve a spot on your plate?
If you tried a vegetable burger years ago and dismissed it as rubbery and flavorless, it’s a good time to give meatless meat another chance. Newer varieties imitate the look, flavor, and texture of meat. Analysts don’t expect the meat‑free movement to slow anytime soon; a 2021 report predicts the market will skyrocket to $74 billion by 2030 — a 957 percent surge.
Plant‑based meats are no longer just for vegetarians. Companies such as Impossible Foods and Beyond Meat — the current superstars of the alternative protein sector — are pursuing consumers who enjoy meat but want to reduce their meat consumption for animal rights, health, or environmental reasons. So far, it’s a winning strategy: More than nine out of ten consumers who buy Beyond Burger and Impossible Foods products also eat meat.
Many vegetarians don’t actually care for food that resembles meat. When reporter Joan Solsman, a longtime vegetarian, tried a dish from Impossible Foods, she felt so sick that she couldn’t finish it. “Maybe the best sign that Impossible Foods has cracked the code to realistic fake meat is that I couldn’t stand to take another bite,” she wrote.
Meatless meats are generally a healthier choice than beef because they are cholesterol‑free, plus they’re a good source of vitamins, minerals, protein, and fiber.
If meatless meat can help you stick to a plant‑based diet, that in itself can lead to better health. Not only has red meat been linked to cancer, but studies show that people who ditch meat have lower blood pressure, lower average blood sugar, and lower cholesterol levels.
However, just because it’s plant‑based doesn’t mean it’s health food. Most imitation meats are highly processed and contain high amounts of sodium (钠) compared to traditional beef.
These new generations of alternate meat get all the attention, but don’t forget about whole grains and vegetables. Beans are an especially excellent protein substitute. They’re nutritious, inexpensive, and far more sustainable than any of the processed meatless substitutes on the market today.
It can be inferred from paragraph 2 that the plant‑based meat sector will ________.
A.devote abundant resources to its promotion
B.undergo continuous renewal of its product types
C.witness a dramatic expansion in overall market scale
D.harvest widespread attention from economic analyses
What can we conclude about Impossible Foods’ products from Joan Solsman’s remark?
A.They more often appeal to meat‑eaters.
B.They very much resemble animal meat.
C.Some have become its signature dishes.
D.Most of them are sold as true fake meat.
Why can the habit of eating a plant‑based diet lead to better health?
A.It frees people from any known link to cancer.
B.It provides all the nutrients for staying healthy.
C.It helps maintain normal blood pressure and blood sugar.
D.It reduces various health risks posed by meat consumption.
What does the author recommend we eat at the end of the passage?
A.Naturally produced foods. B.Processed protein substitutes.
C.Red meats like traditional beef. D.New generations of alternate meat.
【答案】32.C 33.B 34.D 35.A
根据第二段中的“Analysts don’t expect the meat‑free movement to slow anytime soon; a 2021 report predicts the market will skyrocket to $74 billion by 2030 — a 957 percent surge.(分析师预计无肉饮食浪潮不会很快放缓;一份2021年报告预测,到2030年市场规模将猛增至740亿美元,涨幅高达957%。)”
根据第四段中的““Maybe the best sign that Impossible Foods has cracked the code to realistic fake meat is that I couldn’t stand to take another bite,” she wrote.(她写道:“或许Impossible Foods破解了高仿人造肉密码的最好证明就是我一口都不想再多吃。”)”
根据第六段中的“Not only has red meat been linked to cancer, but studies show that people who ditch meat have lower blood pressure, lower average blood sugar, and lower cholesterol levels.(红肉不仅和癌症相关,研究还表明不吃肉的人血压、平均血糖以及胆固醇水平更低。)”
根据最后一段中的“These new generations of alternate meat get all the attention, but don’t forget about whole grains and vegetables. Beans are an especially excellent protein substitute. They’re nutritious, inexpensive, and far more sustainable than any of the processed meatless substitutes on the market today.(新一代替代肉类备受关注,但不要忘记全谷物和蔬菜。豆类是极佳的蛋白质替代品,营养丰富、价格低廉,远比市面上各类加工植物肉更具备可持续性。)”可知,作者在文章末尾建议食用全谷物、豆类等天然食物,因此天然生产的食物是作者推荐食用的对象。
(本题12.5分)What does moderation mean in eating? 36(2.5分) After a meal, you want to feel satisfied — not stuffed. For many of us, moderation means eating less than we do now. But it doesn’t mean eliminating the foods you love. Eating bacon for breakfast once a week, for example, could be considered moderation if you follow it with a healthy lunch and dinner — but not if you follow it with a box of donuts and a sausage pizza.
Try not to think of certain foods as “off-limits”.
When you ban certain foods, it’s natural to want those foods more, and then feel like a failure if you give in to temptation. 37(2.5分) As you reduce your intake of unhealthy foods, you may find yourself craving them less or thinking of them as only occasional indulgences (嗜好,放纵).
It’s important to slow down and think about food as nourishment rather than just something to gulp down in between meetings or on the way to pick up the kids. It actually takes a few minutes for your brain to tell your body that it has had enough food, so eat slowly and stop eating before you feel full.
Limit snack foods in the home.
39(2.5分) It’s more challenging to eat in moderation if you have unhealthy snacks and treats at the ready. Instead, surround yourself with healthy choices and when you’re ready to reward yourself with a special treat, go out and get it then.
Control emotional eating.
We don’t always eat just to satisfy hunger. Many of us also turn to food to relieve stress or cope with unpleasant emotions such as sadness, loneliness, or boredom. 40(2.5分) You can regain control over the food you eat and your feelings.
A.Take your time.
B.Value food as basic nourishment.
C.When dining out, don’t order anything supersized.
D.Be mindful about the foods you keep close at hand.
E.At its core, it means eating just what your body needs.
F.Learn healthier ways to manage stress and emotions instead.
G.Start by reducing portion sizes of unhealthy foods and not eating them as often.
【答案】36.E 37.G 38.A 39.D 40.F

Kate had always loved watching her mother make scrambled eggs (炒蛋) with tomatoes. The pan, the red and yellow colors, the sweet and acid smell—it all seemed easy. When school announced a cooking competition for students, Kate didn’t hesitate. She signed up, determined to make her mother’s signature dish. “I’ve watched Mom do it a hundred times,” she told herself, “How hard can it be?”
Saturday morning arrived, and the sun had just risen. Kate’s parents were still fast asleep. Perfect time to practice, she thought. She walked to the kitchen, tied on an apron (围裙), and took a deep breath. First, she washed two tomatoes and cut them into pieces. But the knife slipped, and some were too big, some were pressed into juice. “Still okay,” she said.
Next, she cracked two eggs into a bowl. Unfortunately, a small piece of eggshell fell into the bowl. She fished it out with a spoon, but tiny bits remained. She decided to ignore them. She beat the eggs with a fork, making some mixture spill onto the desktop.
Then came the stove. She poured oil into the pan and turned the heat to high—just like Mom did. While waiting for the oil to warm, she started cutting an onion, but the strong smell made her eyes water. When she finally looked up, the oil was smoking. In a panic, she put the tomatoes in. A loud noise exploded, and hot oil got onto her wrist. “Ouch!” she shouted, jumping back. A small red mark appeared on her skin.
The tomatoes were already turning dark and sticking to the pan. She quickly poured in the egg mixture. The eggs hit the hot pan and boiled wildly. She mixed like mad, but everything turned into a brown, mushy mess. The bitter smell must have traveled upstairs. Kate looked around in disappointment.
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;

The competition day arrived, and her parents also came to watch.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Just then, her mom’s voice came from the doorway. “Oh, my dear, what happened here?” Mom hurried over and gently took Kate’s wrist. “It’s nothing,” Kate whispered, but her eyes were wet. Mom smiled and turned the heat to medium. “High heat is the enemy of eggs,” she said. “Watch me.” She cracked two eggs cleanly and poured them into the warm oil. The eggs spread golden and smooth. “Now you try,” Mom said. Kate took a deep breath and copied her mother. This time, the eggs didn’t burn — they were a little dry, but much better. “Good,” Mom smiled. “You’re learning. Keep practicing.” The competition day arrived, and her parents also came to watch. Kate’s heart pounded as she set her station. Just as she poured the oil, the stove’s heat fluctuated — a burner problem. Had she not practiced with her mom, she would have panicked. Instead, she lowered the pan and waited. The oil shimmered at the right moment. She added tomatoes, then eggs, stirring gently. The red and yellow swirled perfectly. Her mother’s words echoed: “Cooking is like life — adjust as you go.” When the judge tasted her dish, Kate didn’t look at the score. She saw her parents’ proud smiles. That, she knew, was the real prize.

Plant‑based meats are coming soon to a dinner table near you, but do they deserve a spot on your plate?
