Hi everyone, if you've been with us from the beginning, you'll know that we began our tour in amsterdam n walked our way through germany and austria, a down into italy, back up through switzerland. And this week we are in paris. We won't spend much time at the big attractions in a tourist destination like paris. Even a new traveller knows to see the famous art museums of paris. And no one misses the iphone tower, but we're going to some of the places the average tourist misses. For instance, the best view in town may not be from the top of the iphone tower, but from the top of the mont partners tower. The view includes the iphone tower as well as everything else is cheaper and easier to get up. Here we can join a ride on a public bus. I like the views from line sixty three to cover more territory, traffic and streets for you. I write the subway. Many european cities have subway systems. The one in paris is really amazing. You can go anywhere in town for a reasonable Price. And don't worry, getting lost is cheap. In fact, you could stay underground all day long on one ticket about the cost of a cup of coffee. (本题10分)As my train inched its way into the station at La Souterraine, some three hours south of Paris on a hot June afternoon, the woman next to me asked, “Vous descendez ici?” Her expression seemed to say, “Really? You’re getting off here?”
I could see what she meant. Behind the wire fencing lining the platform lay a handful of industrial buildings alongside unremarkable farmland. I had arrived in La Creuse — one of the departments the French call la France profonde — deepest, darkest France — and apparently the country’s least-visited region, north of Limoges.
I attempted to find the landscape that had inspired the painter Claude Monet, a landscape that, unlike his Rouen, Paris and London, which he painted many times, remains relatively unknown. In early 1889, several years before he started his world-famous water lily (睡莲) series, Monet spent several months in the countryside near the small village of Fresselines, about an hour’s drive north of Limoges. Like his fellow impressionists, Monet was on the lookout for locations to paint in the open air, and his friend Gustave Geffroy suggested La Creuse, by which Monet was soon attracted.
I had arranged to do the circular, three-kilometre route with Monet expert Christophe Rameix, and we were walking through the thick woodland that lines the banks of the Creuse River. Information posts on the path show copies of Monet’s paintings at the spots where he created them. Eventually, after climbing over slippery rocks, we reached the bank from which Monet had looked down, positioning his easel (画架) at a place where two sections of the Creuse River join. “Monet was attracted by the water,” Rameix told me. “He wanted to catch its movement, even its sound.”
It wasn’t hard to see why La Creuse had inspired Monet. I only wondered why La Creuse was not better known.
How did the woman feel when the author was getting off the train?
A.Relieved. B.Confused. C.Annoyed. D.Encouraged.
Why did the author travel to La Creuse?
A.To participate in a painting tour. B.To rediscover his interest in Monet’s works.
C.To attend Monet’s art exhibition. D.To explore Monet’s less-known inspiration.
What can we learn about Monet around 1889?
A.He was introduced into La Creuse. B.He perfected his impressionist touch.
C.He made friends with Gustave Geffroy. D.He was working on his water lily series.
What did Rameix say about Monet?
A.He liked painting in diverse environments.
B.He aimed to represent water as a solid element.
C.He tried to grasp the core of water in his paintings.
D.He preferred painting landscapes over other subjects.
(本题10分)South Africa is attracting more Chinese tourists with its unique travel experiences. Visitors can track lions and leopards from an open safari vehicle, see whales jump out of the ocean, and watch cute penguins walk along the beach. “It’s exciting to see these wild animals. I escaped the busy city life and felt the power of life,” said Wu Qian, a Beijing office worker, who recently visited the country.
According to South African Tourism, the number of Chinese visitors to South Africa in 2024 reached 41,651, showing an 11.4 percent year-on-year growth. From January to May this year, 17,431 Chinese tourists arrived in South Africa, with a 1.1 percent year-on-year growth.
To attract more Chinese tourists, South Africa started the Trusted Tour Operator Scheme in February to make visa applications easier and faster. A total of 47 Chinese travel agencies have joined the program. They can apply for visas online and get them within 24 hours. This is one of South Africa’s strategies to welcome more Chinese visitors, along with adding more flights.

Beyond famous attractions like wildlife reserves and Table Mountain, South Africa also offers rich food culture and historical heritage.
South Africa is also attracting Chinese tourists through Chinese social media platforms by inviting Chinese famous people, influencers and South Africans living in China to create content. (本题10分)Villages have existed in England since the Roman period. There were free communities, but most were of dependent farmers. Life was hard, even when the country did not suffer from deadly diseases and hunger. The majority of England’s population was rural (乡村) until the 18th century, when a great shift towards towns and cities began. By the 19th century, people started to reexamine village life, longing to experience the way of living that was already disappearing.
Since 1945, the past has accelerated (加速) away from people at a faster rate than ever before. In 1969, in his landmark Akenfield: Portrait of an English Village, the famous English writer Ronald Blythe offered a realistic description detailing the end of the old English village. But the great English historian W. G. Hoskins suggested that the whole history of the country could be told through one village. Inspired by his view, Michael Wood filmed the TV series Michael Wood’s Story of England in the village of Kibworth.
And now time has moved on again. In some of the English villages, big farms have replaced smallholders (小农场主); private houses have become spa hotels. Despite these changes, the village still stands for the idea of community, a word more and more in use now as we search for our commonality (共性). It is a place of 500 or 1,000 people, where everyone knows each other and each other’s business, but always helps out in an emergency; a place where one can still feel connected and hold that dream of a harmonious vision of society.
Some of the English people feel concerned about immigrants, but their villages always have newcomers, just like Saxons, Angles, Normans, Africans and Bangladeshis in history. That is who they are. In reality, English villages have been deeply shaped more by inequality and class conflict than those newcomers.
So, as Hoskins suggested, if you were to learn about England, why not choose an English village, such as Handsworth near Birmingham? It was home to the Lunar Society of Matthew Boulton, as well as to musicians like Stevie Winwood and Joan Armatrading. Wouldn’t that be fun?
What was early rural life like in England?
A.It was far from easy. B.It had been destroyed by cities.
C.All farmers worked together. D.Villagers suffered from various diseases.
What led to the filming of the England story TV series?
A.Post-war social changes. B.Hoskins’ idea about one village.

Why do villages still matter today?
A.They contribute to population growth.
B.They have become a key source of income.
C.They keep important ancient Roman buildings.
D.They provide a sense of belonging and togetherness.
Which of the following is the best title for the passage?
A.The Great Shift from Rural to Urban B.Why Villages Are Dying Out
C.A Window into England: The Village D.The History of European Villages

The first time my daughter, Maia, realized I was leaving on a trip without her, she was alarmed. She was three, and as a new travel writer, I was excited about a solo (独自的) visit alone to South Carolina.
Seeing photos of where I was going, she didn’t hold back her despair. “Why did you even have me if you were just going to leave me behind?” she sobbed.
I tried to tell her that someday she’d understand. But as my husband, Evan, pried(拉开) her off my leg so I could leave, I wondered if my solo trip would be worth the effort of going without her.
Returning home after a few days away, I felt energized and inspired. Mai a was happy to hear about my trip. She told me I could keep going on trips for work— but she’d come with me.
Growing up on a sailing boat gave Mai a an early sense of adventure. Travelling is something Evan and I hoped :Maia would love. Our goal was to set out sailing again when she was seven, an age when she’d be able to remember the voyage. Until then, the plan was for me to travel on my own and build a writing career while we took Maia on short family trips. But then, a year later, an invitation came to experience the Rocky Mountaineer on a parent-child journey through the Rockies, which sounded too good to pass up.
Ever since Mai a was little, she’d dreamed of travelling the world with her parents. Dressed in her fanciest train-riding clothes, four-year-old. Maia watched me take notes about the scenery as we traveled along the Fraser River in BC. Wanting to prove her worth as. an assistant, she began interviewing the Australian couple across the aisle from us. Unable to spell more than a few words, she drew their answers in crayon.

W: Hi, everyone. If you’ve been with us from the beginning, you’ll know that we began our tour in Amsterdam, walked our way through Germany and Austria, down into Italy, back up through Switzerland and this week we are in Paris. We won’t spend much time at the big attractions. In a tourist destination like Paris, even a new traveler knows to see the famous art museums of Paris and no one misses the Eiffel Tower. But we’re going to some of the places the average tourist misses. For instance, the best view in town may not be from the top of the Eiffel Tower, but from the top of the Montparnasse Tower. The view includes the Eiffel Tower as well as everything else. It’s cheaper and easier to get up here. We can join a ride on a public bus. I like the views from Line 63. To cover more territory, traffic and streets for you, I ride the subway. Many European cities have subway systems, the one in Paris is really amazing. You can go anywhere in town for a reasonable price. And don’t worry, getting lost is cheap.

A.He was introduced into La Creuse. B.He perfected his impressionist touch.
C.He made friends with Gustave Geffroy. D.He was working on his water lily series.

C.The growth of small farms. D.The success of Blythe’s Akenfield.
【答案】32.A 33.B 34.D 35.C
根据第一段中“Life was hard, even when the country did not suffer from deadly diseases and hunger. (生活很艰难,即使在国家没有遭受致命疾病和饥饿的时候。)”可知,早期英格兰的乡村生活远非容易。
33.细节理解题。根据第二段中“But the great English historian W. G. Hoskins suggested that the whole history of the country could be told through one village. Inspired by his view, Michael Wood filmed the TV series Michael Wood’s Story of England in the village of Kibworth. (但伟大的英国历史学家W. G. Hoskins认为,整个国家的历史可以通过一个村庄来讲述。受到这一观点的启发,Michael Wood在基布沃思村拍摄了电视系列剧《Michael Wood的英格兰故事》。)”可知,Hoskins关于一个村庄的想法促成了这部片子的拍摄。
34.推理判断题。根据第三段中“Despite these changes, the village still stands for the idea of community, a word more and more in use now as we search for our commonality (共性). It is a place of 500 or 1,000 people, where everyone knows each other and each other’s business, but always helps out in an emergency; a place where one can still feel connected and hold that dream of a harmonious vision of society. (尽管经历了这些变化,这个村庄依然代表着社区的理念——一个如今在我们寻找共同点时越来越被使用的词语。这里住着五百到一千人,每个人彼此相识,了解彼此的事务,但在紧急时刻总能互相帮助;这是一个人们仍能感受到彼此联系的地方,也是怀揣着社会和谐愿景的梦想之地。)”可推知,村庄在今天依然重要的原因是它能给人们提供一种归属感和团结感。
35.主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是第二段中“But the great English historian W. G. Hoskins suggested that the whole history of the country could be told through one village. Inspired by his view, Michael Wood filmed the TV series Michael Wood’s Story of England in the village of Kibworth. (但伟大的英国历史学家W. G. Hoskins认为,整个国家的历史可以通过一个村庄来讲述。)”可知,文章回顾了英国乡村的历史变迁,并在第二段和第五段反复强调了一个核心观点:整个英国的历史可以通过一个村庄来讲述,文章的主旨是将村庄作为了解英格兰的一扇窗户,所以“了解英格兰的窗口:村庄”最契合文章主旨,适合作为文章标题。

Maybe it's somewhere that's cheap and easy to get to, somewhere where the currency gets you good value because of the exchange rate, or somewhere that has a lower cost of living than home! 说明要选择适合预算的目的地,G项“Some places are naturally more expensive than where you call home (有些地方天然比你的家乡更贵)”与下文形成对比,正是因为有些地方更贵,所以需要仔细研究选择。
38.上文“Even within your destination, avoid restaurants on the main street and try something down a sidewalk. (即使在你的目的地内,也要避开主街上的餐厅,试试人行道旁的餐馆。)”建议避开主街餐厅,F项“The food will probably be better as well as cheaper (食物可能会更好吃也更便宜)”承接上文,说明小巷里的餐厅不仅省钱而且食物质量可能更好,符合语境。
提出轻装打包的建议,D项“You won't wear half the clothes you want to take (你想带的衣服有一半你不会穿)”说明带太多衣服是不必要的,对前文建议轻装出行进行解释说明,与下文“It'll only cost you more in baggage to bring more than you need. (带超过需要的东西只会花更多托运费。)”形成因果关系。
40.下文“Sure, you might not be able to guarantee the weather, but your chosen destination will be a lot less busy and crowded during that period. Not only will you save a lot of money, but you'll have it all to yourself! (当然,你可能无法保证天气,但你选择的目的地在那段时间会不那么繁忙拥挤。你不仅会省很多钱,而且可以独享一切!)”说明选择某个时间段出行的好处,A项“Travel off-season (淡季出行)”作为小标题,概括了本段内容,与下文描述的目的地不拥挤、省钱等淡季特征完全吻合。
