When it comes to choosing where to go for a vacation, what you’re going to eat and drink can be a big part of making travel plans. So, as you dream about where you’ll go next, which cuisine (菜肴) rules?
France
If you’re one of those people who don’t like to eat because “there’s more to life than food”, then visit Paris. It’s a city known for its bad-tempered people, but they all believe in the importance of good food. Two-hour lunch break for three-course meals are customary. Down-to-earth cooking will surprise those who thought of the French as the world’s food snob (势利小人) — it is the birthplace of The Michelin Guide, after all.
China
The people who greet each other with “Have you eaten yet?” are definitely the food lovers in the world. But the Chinese don’t just cook and sell food, they also make it taste great. China’s regional cuisines are so varied that it’s hard to believe they’re from the same nation. It’s not a food culture you can easily summarize.
Italy
Italian food has attracted eaters around the world for centuries, with its tomato sauces, those clever things they do with wheat flour and tasty desserts. It’s not at all difficult. Get some noodles, get some olive oil, get some garlic, maybe a tomato or a slice of bacon. You have a party on a plate. And it is all so easy to cook and eat.
Thailand
Street eats are a Thai attraction. Flip through a Thai cook book, and you’ll be hard pressed to find an ingredient (配料) list that doesn’t run a page long. The combination of so many herbs and spices in each dish produces many flavors that somehow come together like orchestral music. Thais fit spicy, sour, salty, sweet, chewy, crunchy and slippery into one dish.

1. Who is more likely to visit China?
A. Susan preferring eating snacks.
B. Jennifer pursuing the variety of food.
C. Linda enjoying food cooked with wheat flour.
D. Tom attaching importance to the quality of food.
2. How is Italy’s cooking?
A. Simple. B. Varied. C. Grounded. D. Expensive.
3. Where can you find the passage?
A. A newspaper. B. A storybook. C. An advertisement. D. A website.

At the Asian Games, Asma Assad, the First Lady of Syria, won people’s hearts by making a heart gesture to cheer for athletes. This warm action quickly made her popular, and she is affectionately called the “Desert Rose”, also known as “Rose of Damascus”.
Asma breaks people’s stereotypes (刻板印象) about Arab women. Unlike the traditional image, she does not wear a headscarf and often wears stylish suits. Within one year after becoming First Lady, she visited more than 100 poor villages across Syria. She encourages women to leave home to seek jobs and has set up charitable organizations for women and children. Even after being diagnosed with cancer, she still travelled to the front line to cheer up soldiers. When vsiting China, she said admiringly, “You have a beautiful country.” This remark carries her deep desire: she hopes her motherland can get rid of war and become a peaceful and beautiful nation one day.
Syria has been badly destroyed by war. However, roses can bloom even in tough conditions. The Syrian team’s journey to the Asian Games was arduous. They spent over 11 hours on the flight and had to bypass unfriendly countries, showing their determination to connect with the outside world and chase a better future.
Asma shows that true beauty lies not merely in appearance, but in a strong will and courage to strive for a brighter tomorrow. Her story stands for the resilience (韧性) of Syrian people. Though suffering from the devastation of war, they never lose hope. Asma is a symbol of this spirit. With people like her committed to national reconstruction, Syria will regain its beauty and peace. The Rose of Damascus will bloom again, representing hope and prosperity for the country.
4. Why is Asma Assad called the “Rose of Damascus”?
A. Because she often wears roses on formal occasions.
B. Because she shows elegance and strong will in difficult times.
C. Because she introduced rose planting in Syria.
D. Because she gave roses to foreign athletes.
5. Why does Asma say “You have a beautiful country” during her visit to China?
A. To express her love for China’s scenery.
B. To show her hope for Syria’s peaceful future.
C. To praise China’s rapid development.
D. To thank China for its support.
6. What does the underlined word arduous in the third paragraph mean?
A. Struggling. B. Comfortable. C. Convenient. D. Exhausted.
7. Which two words best describe Asma Assad as described in the text?
A. Traditional and gentle. B. Reserved and ambitious.
C. Fragile and kind. D. Elegant and determined.

Sleep and exercise work together like gears in a machine: when one turns smoothly, the other follows suit (跟着做). Quality sleep supports athletic recovery and performance, while exercise releases useful brain chemicals, lowers stress and can help you fall asleep faster. Just as the benefits go hand-in-hand, so do the drawbacks.
There’s no question that exercise is generally good for sleep. “People who exercise an hour get a bigger benefit than those who exercise 30 minutes,” Baron said. But you can overdo it. According to a 2021 study, more than six intense sessions a week can lead to difficulty falling asleep. Another study found that very high levels of exercise increased insomnia (失眠症) risk for some individuals, especially for those whose main physical activity comes from demanding jobs.
Timing matters, too. A 2022 study found that intense (激烈的) exercise ending one hour before bed may disrupt sleep. If the evening is your only free time, try shorter sessions and tone down the intensity.
While researchers haven’t definitively determined the ideal exercise routine for sleep improvement, a 2024 study suggested moderate (普通的) aerobic exercise paired with light strength training, mind-body practices (like yoga or tai chi) and traditional insomnia treatment.
Above all, find a rhythm. It can take weeks and months for an exercise habit to translate to better sleep, and the short-term effects can be pretty small, Baron said. Once you dial in a routine that works, the gears will start turning again — you will sleep better after being active, and your workouts will feel easier as you sleep through the night.
8. What can we infer from the first paragraph?
A. Exercise more, sleep longer.
B. Intense exercise can improve sleep quality.
C. Sleep and exercise are like peas and carrots.
D. Sleep and exercise are independent of each other.
9. Why does the author mention the studies in paragraph 2?
A. To encourage people to go to bed early and get up early.
B. To advise people to stay away from some demanding jobs.
C. To tell people high-intensity exercise may cause sleep disorder.
D. To remind people with insomnia of the importance of exercise.
10. What do researchers recommend to help improve sleep according to a 2024 study?
A. Having a balanced diet. B. Depending on treatment.
C. Practising heavy strength training. D. Pairing moderate exercises with treatment.
11. What can be the best title for the text?
A. What Helps to Lower Stress B. What Supports a Sound Sleep
C. How to Control Exercise Intensity D. How to Exercise for Better Sleep
D
The electron microscope is one of the most powerful tools in science. It can show images so detailed that individual atoms (原子) become visible. Now, Chinese scientists have taken it a step further. A new AI-driven system called “Aeye-1” can operate an electron microscope with no human help at all. It was built by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). In May 2025, an expert team confirmed it was a world first, placing China at the leading edge of scientific research.
For years, using an electron microscope came with serious limits. Results depended heavily on the skill of each operator, causing them hard to compare across different labs. Collecting enough data for new materials was impractical. These problems formed a significant block in science — one that researchers at CAS had long tried to remove.
To solve this, the team worked through five core problems. Before learning to move samples safely inside the machine, the system was first taught to line up its parts on its own. After that it was enabled to locate targets at an extremely small scale before learning to take images without help. Managing its own work schedule was the last skill added. Once all of this was in place, Aeye-1 was capable of handling the full procedure entirely on its own — from loading a sample to drafting a written analysis report.
Early experiments showed significant results. Working with a type of porous (有气孔的) material used in the chemical industry, Aeye-1 studied 168 samples a day and captured over 4,000 images. It computed data more than 300 times faster than a human operator. In fact, two weeks of running Aeye-1 produced as much data as a full year of manual (手工的) operation.
Scientists expect the system to speed up work in materials research, clean energy, and the life sciences. Aeye-1 does not simply replace the human scientist — it frees them to focus on questions that only humans can ask. In this way, the machine does not mark the end of human science, but the start of a new chapter.
12. How does the author introduce Aeye-1 in paragraph 1?
A. By offering a solution. B. By listing achievements.
C. By introducing background. D. By giving a specific example.
13. What limited traditional electron microscope use?
A. They were too costly for most labs.
B. Data collected could not be stored long.
C. CAS researchers failed to operate them.
D. Results varied with each operator’s skill.
14. What was the correct order of Aeye-1’s five skills?
① move samples ② line up parts ③ locate targets ④ take images ⑤ manage schedule
A. ①②④③⑤ B. ②①③④⑤ C. ①②③④⑤ D. ②①④③⑤
15. What does the author imply in the last paragraph?
A. Aeye-1 is already used in clean energy.
B. Manual scientific work has completely ended.
C. AI will eventually make scientists unnecessary.
D. Aeye-1 frees scientists for more meaningful work.

Chesa grew up in a quiet small town in Indiana. For as long as she could remember, Chesa had listened to her parents talk warmly about the Hinara, their hometown far across the ocean. Her parents described thick palm trees, warm tropical wind, tasty local snacks and the peaceful countryside where Grandpa lived. Chesa built a perfect, glowing picture of the Hinara in her mind, dreaming that it would be a wonderful oasis (绿洲)full of joy and beauty.
At last, the whole family booked flights to visit their relatives. Full of eager excitement, Chesa boarded the plane, counting down the hours until she could step into her imagined paradise (天堂). But reality hit her hard the moment they arrived. The air was hot and sticky, full of thick moisture. The roads were narrow and bumpy (颠簸). Local taxis rumbled (发出轰鸣)noisily along the streets, and simple wooden houses lined the roadside instead of the neat modern buildings she had pictured. Grandpa’s small house was plain and narrow, without the comfortable facilities she was used to back in Indiana.
Disappointment washed over Chesa again and again. She refused to try local food, kept quiet during family gatherings, and avoided going out with her grandpa. She thought her dream oasis had turned into a dull, uncomfortable place. Grandpa noticed her low spirits and never blamed her. Every day, he gently invited her to tour around the village, yet Chesa always made up excuses to stay inside alone, stuck in her negative mood. One afternoon, Chesa sat alone on the back porch (走廊), staring blankly at the messy yard, feeling regretful and lonely for being so cold to her kind grandpa. She wondered whether she would ever find the “oasis” she had long dreamed of.
注意:1.续写词数应为80左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Slowly, Grandpa walked over and invited Chesa for a village tour on his motorcycle.

【答案】Dear Maggie,
I am sorry to learn about your trouble. I perfectly understand your situation, as many students struggle to balance study and extracurricular activities in high school.
Here are my suggestions. First, it is wise to have a sincere talk with your parents, explaining that clubs can develop your social skills without affecting your studies. Only by communicating patiently can you bridge the generation gap. Besides, why not make a detailed schedule to prove you can handle both?
Cheer up! I believe everything will work out. May you find the perfect balance and enjoy your campus life.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua

Slowly, Grandpa walked over and invited Chesa for a village tour on his motorcycle. Hesitating for a moment, Chesa finally nodded and climbed onto the back seat. As they rode along the bumpy road, a warm tropical breeze brushed her cheeks, and the setting sun painted the sky golden. Chesa’s loneliness gradually gave way to curiosity. They stopped by a lively market, where Grandpa bought her a sweet coconut. Amazed by the friendly smiles of villagers, she began to relax. It was at that moment that she realized the real oasis was not about perfect buildings, but the warmth of human connection. Only then did she understand Grandpa's silent love and the true meaning of home.
