practicality.
ON TRACK
Screenless fitness trackers are the new trend in wearable workout gear. The first new Fitbit since 2023
enters a market that competitors like Whoop and Oura have muscled into in recent years. The Fitbit Air is
considerably cheaper than those options, and integrates with Google's updated Health app.The tracker
covers basic indicators like heart rate, blood oxygen and motion data during activity and sleep. All data is
processed in the app, with an AI coach available for an additional $7.99 per month.

Faizan Zaki,a 13-year-old from Texas, was awarded the champion of the Scripps National Spelling
Bee(SNSB)on May 29.The event,held near Washington,D.C.and broadcast live on TV,was especially
meaningful as it marked a century of the competition.
The SNSB,which began in 1926,is one of America's most famous educational contests. It's open to
students who haven't turned 16 or finished 8th grade.This year,243 young spellers,aged 8 to 14,reached
the national competition. After several intense rounds, only three finalists remained:Faizan,14-year-old
Sarvadnya Kadam, and 11-year-old Sarv Dharavane. Both opponents misspelled their words, giving Faizan
a chance to win.But he also failed on "commelina,"bringing his opponents back into the competition.
Ultimately,Faizan correctly spelled"eclaircissement"-meaning"a clearing up of something difficult to
understand".Overjoyed,he pumped his fists and collapsed onto the stage.
The road to that moment began four years ago, when his first national appearance ended early.
高三英语第4页(共12页)
Watching older contestants handle difficult words calmly inspired him.He later shared,"I realizo it's not
just spelling-it's a test of willpower."He even created personalized word banks using programming
software
In his next attempt,Faizan entered the semifinals, but was tripped up by "xylophone",mistakenly
confusing"ph"with"f.This setback taught him something new:"Every letter carries a cultural context-
only memorizing is far less effective than understanding etymology ()."Thereafter,he spent 2 hours
daily analyzing word origins.
This year,Faizan returned more confident and calm.Known for his fun personality,he even made a
joke when the host told finalists to "take a deep breath."Faizan replied."That wen't help at all!"making
the audience laugh. When the final word was announced,he paused for two seconds to steady his breath,
and then spelled it perfectly, earning thunderous applause.
Faizan now plans to save half the prize for university-he hopes to become a neurosurgeon-and
donate the rest to charity. His four-year journey has made him a symbol of persistence, inspiring teenagers
across the country.
24.Why did the 2026 SNSB carry extra meaning?
A.It changed age limits.
B.It attracted special participants.
C.It was broadcast internationally.
D.It celebrated its 100th anniversary.
25.What lesson did the failures teach him?
A.A good memory is not enough.
B.Software programming is helpful.
C.Long words are hard to remember.
D.Pronunciation matters more than letters.
26.What kind of person can Faizan be described as?
A.Serious and strict.
B.Confident and reserved.
C.Intelligent and determined.
D.Humorous and demanding.
27.What does the story illustrate?
A.Luck matters more.
B.Persistence pays off.
C.Talent beats practice.
D.Speed brings victory.
Human well-being depends on the ability to navigate the social world.Such social skill depends on
高三英语第5页(共12页)
reliable feedback:acts of kindness may be met with gratitude;on other occasions,a misstep brings about
a friend's disapproval and recognition that an apology is needed. These moments are crucial for deepening
trust and personal growth.Social life is rarely smooth, because people are not perfectly in tune with one
another.Yet it is precisely through such social conflict that relationships deepen and moral understanding
develops.
Sycophancy (is the opposite of this conflict. Many users experience this when AI
enthusiastically agrees with their ideas or writing. In academic contexts, the consequence may be investing
more time in an average idea. But as Al systems are increasingly consulted for guidance about relationships
and conflict, affirmation (of this kind may shape how people interpret-their own actions and their
perspectives of others, and in turn, how they respond to conflict and whether they take responsibility when
things go wrong.
Now imagine a world where people routinely consult a sycophantic AI about interpersonal conflict or
moral dilemmas. They are repeatedly assured that they are right, that others are wrong, and that no apology
is needed.Over time, this patterned sycophancy may reshape expectations about what feedback should feel
like.Individuals may begin to anticipate the same constant affirmation from real human beings. The
gradual effect is a reduction in tolerance for the very social conflict through which accountability,
perspective-taking and growth occur.
An AI companion that is always"on your side"may keep users engaged and dependent. But it cannot
teach them how to handle real relationships-how to disagree respectfully, repair damaged trust,or accent
being wrong.Although Al could be improved to promote long-term personal development, suck goals
conflict with systems built to maximize user engagement.Challenging users or presenting uncomfortable
truths is a sure way to drive them away. This tension raises fundamental ethical questions:Should we
prioritize immediate emotional comfort or long-term social health?Who gets to decide?Addressing these
challenges will require interdisciplinary cooperation among computer scientists, social scientists, ethicists,
and policy makers.
28.What role does social conflict play in relationships according to the author?
A.It generates positive feedback
B.It causes open disapproval or conflict
C.It guarantees harmonious relationships
D.It enhances social bonds and moral growth.
29.What's th:main idea of the Paragraph 3?
A.The judgment about one's actions.
B.The consequences of Sycophantic AI.
C.The tolerance for interpersonal conflict.
D.The Al's ability to resolve real life conflict
高三英语第6页(共12页)
30.What prevents AI systems from being improved to challenge users?
A.Lack of technical capacity.
B.Unawareness of its potential harm.
C.Conflict with commercial interests
D..Absence of interdisciplinary cooperation.
31.What is the author's attitude toward current AI systems?
A.Strictly neutral.
B.Strongly opposed.
C.Mildly supportive.
D.Cautiously concerned.

A new study out of King's College London is giving people more of a reason than ever to plan a
museum date.It was conducted by the researchers from the university, who got half of 100 participants
aged 18 to 40 to view pieces by world-famous artists Manet,Van Gogh, and Gauguin in The Courtauld
Gallery in London. The control group,on the other hand, looked at copies of the same artworks in a non-
gallery environment.
All of the participants'heart rate variability and skin temperatures were measured with sensors
throughout the 20-minute art-viewing sessions, and saliva()samples were also taken before and after
viewing.
The researchers found that cortisol levels-a key stress hormone (in the human body-fell
by an average of 22%in the gallery group, compared to just 8%in the control group. The participants
viewing original art in the gallery also had more active heart activity, which shows that art affects the body.
Another key finding was that pro-inflammatory (proteins IL-6 and TNF-alpha also dropped by
30%and 28%respectively for those viewing art in galleries, with no observable changes for the control
group.
"Stress hormones and inflammatory markers like IL-6 and TNF-alpha are related to many health
problems,from heart disease to anxiety and oepression,"explained Dr.Tony Woods,the study's senior
author."The fact that viewing original art lowered these markers suggests that cultural experiences may
play a real role in protecting both mind and body."
Other previous studies have linked regular gallery visits to long-term well-being,but this study is the
first to"capture real-time physiological benefits",which shows an immediate positive impact."This study
proves for the first time that art really is good for you. What's particularly exciting is that the findings show
these benefits are pervasive-they can be experienced by anyone,"said Jenny Waldman, the director of
Art Fund."We want to encourage everyone to make time to visit their local museum or gallery, and discover
just how good art can make you fcel."
32.What does the new study focus on?
高三英语第7页(共12页)
A.Differences between artistic styles.
B.Participants'preferences for artists.
C.Participants'physical reactions to art.
D.Effects of art on diverse environments
33 What is a finding of the study about viewing original art?
A.H mainly improves creative thinking.
B.It changes participants'health indicators.
C.It demands a certain art appreciation level.
D.It has the greatest impact on mental health.
34.What does the underlined word"pervasive"in the last paragraph mean?
A.Universal.B.Predictable.C.Surprising.D.Continuous.
35 Which of the following can be a suitable title for the text?
A.Senrors Reveal Visitors'Secrets
B.London Leads World Gallery Tours
C.Cupying Masterpieces Lowers Stress
D.Museum Trips Bring Immi.duate Benefits
第二节(共5小题:每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的七个选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余
选项。
It used to be simple:if you were stuck on homework, you went to a tutor or looked through a textbook.
Today, many students admit their first response is to open short-video apps.36
And here's the
catch:while short-form video makes information accessible, are studehts actually learning or just
scrolling?
Students aren't choosing short videos to study by accident;it fits the way their brains are wired in
today's world.Studies suggest the average attention span has dropped to around 8-12 seconds.Quick
videos match that rhythm.Instead of sitting through a 45-minute lecture, students can learn one concept or
definition in a minute.Short videos also turn spare time, like waiting for the bus or queuing in a line, into
learning opportunities.37
However, for every upside, there's a hidden drawback that students often feel but don't always
recognize.Short videos sometimes oversimplify-students may remember a"fun fact"but struggle to
apply it in problem-solving.Constant exposure to fast content trains the brain to expect stimulation, making
complex reading or full lectures harder to sit through.38Students can end up overwhelmed,
recalling bits of many topics but mastering none.
Here's where it gets tricky.Short-video platforms aren't built for studying, they're built for endless
scrolling. That means students who go in looking for a"quick explainer"often end up an hour deep into
高三英语第8页(共12页)
unrelated content.30Students describe feeling "busy"while scrolling through study content,
but later realize they didn't remember much.
40The reality is,it's both.Short-form content is a tool,not a replacement.Students who
use it as a supplement to traditional learning gain the best of both worlds:quick tips and deeper practice.
Those who depend only on it often face burnout, divided attention,or surface-level understanding.
A.So,is short-form video helping or hurting?
B.This makes learning fit easily into daily life.
C.Many creators make money by posting educational short clips.
D.To them such videos don't just entertain but feel like learning.
E Short videos make students unable to finish homework within fixed time.
F.Besides, too many short videos, brief as they are,can cause information overload.
O.This unclear line between entertainment and education makes it harder to manage time

The Last Pass
For two years,my life had been about basketball:the sound of shoes and the ball hitting the floor.
Making the school team was my big dream for Grade 10-the result of every early practice and every tired
morning. But there I sat. With three minutes left and a twenty-point lead,Coach Thompson still did not
look at the bench.I looked down at my new No.12 shirt. It was still clean and dry.My shoes were almost
new.The crowd sounded far away, like noise behind a wall.
On the court, the first five players moved together well.Jake made another three-point shot, and the
stands got louder. While my teammates smiled,I thought about last Tuesday's practice:the missed easy
shot and the pass that hit the floor.I knew I was not as good a shooter as Jake, but I could pass and I could
guard.I had spent months learning my steps near the basket. But Coach trusted the players who took the
lead, and I felt invisible. When the game ended,I forced a smile and clapped with the team.No one saw
that I never touched the ball.
The locker room was full of happy noise.Teammates threw water into the air and laughed loudly.I
quietly put my towel and belongings into my bag, hoping no one would see me leave.Just then,Coach
Thompson walked over with the game ball, dirty and wet with sweat. He gave it to Jake, who had scored
thirty points.Jake held the ball high and smiled for the cameras.I turned away and bit my lip.

Hi guys!Have you noticed the hot trend "Becoming Chinese"lately? From my perspective,
this trend is absolutely inspiring. It is not simply copying some living habits, but recognition of
Chinese wisdom of keeping healthy.
There are typical healthy habits worth trying.Initially, many Chinese stick to drinking warm
water instead of cold drinks, which helps our body stay in good condition.Additionally,we prefer
balanced diets with plenty of vegetables and grains rather than too much high-fat food. Moreover,
some gentle exercise like tai chi is favored, enabling people to relieve stress and strengthen their
bodies. We also attach importance to going to bed early, for sufficient sleep matters a lot to our
health.
It's amazing that these simple habits bring great benefits. If you give them a try,you will find
a peaceful and healthy way of life.Share your comments below!
写作二:
I held the ball and felt its warmth. My fingers traced the worn leather, and for a moment,I
felt a strange intimacy with it-this ball had witnessed Jake's glory, but it had also witnessed my
loneliness.Instead of heading to the equipment room,I walked back to the empty court.Under the
dim lights,I dribbled, pivoted, and shot.Again and again. Each swish of the net was a quiet
promise to myself.I stayed until my jersey was soaked and my arms ached. That night,I decided I
would no longer wait for permission-I would make myself impossible to ignore.
Coach looked at me and said,"You'll start against Lincoln High.".During practice,I didn't
hang back.I called for the ball, set hard screens, and dove for loose balls.Coach's eyes lingered
on me a second longer than usual. When he finally pulled me aside and said,"Number 12,you're
in the rotation for Friday,"my heart pounded harder than any buzzer-beater.I knew this was my
one shot. Not for fame, but to prove that the boy who carried the ball to the equipment room could
also carry the team when it mattered.

M:Sophia,when did you get in?
W:Just a few minutes ago.I'm sorry I couldn't get home earlier. We had an important meeting
and I couldn't get out of it.
M:It's getting late.Mom just called and she's already arrived. We're supposed to be at my cousin
Tom's wedding by seven
W:Don't worry. We'll make it there in time.I don't get it.Why is your cousin getting married on
a Friday and not on a Saturday?
M:It's simple-to cut costs.Hurry up and get changed.
W:What should I wear?Pants don't seem right for a wedding.How do you like this dress?I
prepared it specially for today.
M:It looks perfect.By the way,did you get around to buying a gift?
W:It slipped my mind.Shall we get one now?

W:Hey,Sam,you look tired today.Did you have many emergency calls today?
M:We had five in total, and one was for an accident on the roof of a house.
W:But what happened?
M:The caller was very distressed. Her cat climbed out of her window and got stuck under the roof
of their house.
W:Couldn't it get down by itself?Cats are generally good at getting down from heights.
M:No,not this time. The cat did try to get down, but then it slipped and got caught under a roof
plate
W:Poor thing
M:But then the owner saw this and was afraid her cat would fall.So she climbed out of the
window as well.
W:That's so dangerous.The owner shouldn't have done it.What happened next?Were they okay?
M:The owner also got stuck and almost fell.Luckily,we got there in time.
W:Did you save them both?
M:Yes.We used the ladder to climb up to the roof and helped them both down.
W:Thank goodness.

M:The Danish government announced a ban on social media for under-15s,accusing mobile
phones and social networks of"stealing our children's childhood".Denmark's Digital Minister,
Caroline Stage, highlighted that never before have so many young people suffered from anxiety
and depression. Many children also have difficulty reading and concentrating. It is hoped the ban
could take effect next year.
It follows the lead of Australia, which is introducing a ban on social media platforms
including Facebook,TikTok and YouTube for under-16s,and Norway where the prime minister,
Jonas Gahr Store, also said he had put in place a strict minimum age limit of 15 on social media,
raising it from 13.
Caroline Stage pointed out that platforms don't care about kids'wellbeing,so we must leave
this"digital trap"for real communities. She noted that 60%of teen boys don't visit friends in their
free time, and 94%of seventh graders already have social media accounts before age 13.
