“It has to arrive soon,” thought Amy happily. “How does it get here without a map?” wondered Amy. She was waiting patiently to see Wilson again.
As Amy looked through the window, she saw something unusual—a squirrel! Amy watched him collecting the nuts (坚果) that fell from the trees. The squirrel studied each nut before deciding what to do with it. If it was small or ready to eat, he pushed the nut into his mouth. If it was large but not ready, he buried (埋) it. If he saw another animal nearby, like a rabbit or a fox, he first hid the nut in his mouth and then buried it somewhere else secretly.
Suddenly, a flash of yellow flew past Amy's window. “Wilson, you've come back!" Amy cheered, running into the yard. She picked some berries for the bird to eat and went inside to watch. Minutes later, she saw the squirrel. He was eating the berries! Amy ran back outside as fast as she could. “Hey! Those are for Wilson! Go and dig up the nuts you buried!” Amy raced into the house and found a small net to put some berries in. She managed to hang the net from a tall branch of an old tree.
The next morning, Amy woke up, looked out of her window, and saw the squirrel. He was at the bottom of the tree, looking at the branches! Suddenly, he climbed up to the tall branch. Then. he hung upside down to reach for the net! “You're nothing but trouble,” thought Amy angrily. “From now on, I'm calling you Trouble!”
Amy had to go outside to look for somewhere else. She noticed a metal pole supporting the clothesline. “Trouble can't climb that!” thought Amy. “There is no way to snack on Wilson's food this time!”
Later, when Amy arrived home from school, she went to look for Wilson. There was Trouble again, jumping onto the clothesline from the tall branch of the tree! Using his tail to balance, he walked along the clothesline to the net of berries. Next, Trouble hit the net hard with his foot, causing several berries to fall to the ground. Wilson flew down from a nearby tree and, together, Trouble and Wilson shared the berries.
“Trouble, you're a smart squirrel!!" smiled Amy. From that day on, Amy looked forward to visits from both Wilson and Trouble.

Parents and teachers often find the teenage years challenging. Scientists now have a clearer explanation for this: teenagers are slowly linked to their brain development.
Although our brains reach nearly adult size by age six, it still fully developed. In fact, the brain continues to change around until age 25. During the teenage years, it goes through significant changes, much like a computer system being upgraded. This process helps us better control our impulses (冲动) and understand rules. However, because the teenage brain is still a “work in progress,” it sometimes leads to impulsive behaviours.
Research shows that teenagers are more likely to take risks. One key reason is that their brains respond to reward more strongly. When thinking about potential rewards, a teen’s brain produces more pleasure-creating chemicals than an adult brain does. This makes rewards seem more valuable than risks and makes new experiences feel more exciting.
The teen brain also finds social connections particularly rewarding. Teens feel a strong need to meet new people and build friendships. Scientists suggest that this helps them get used to future social situations and contribute to life success.
While this strong wish for reward can sometimes lead to poor choices, it also encourages teens to try new things and become independent. In the end, these brain changes help teenagers to step out on their own.
31. How does the writer introduce the topic of the teenage brain?
A. By telling a personal story about a teenager.
B. By showing the results of scientific research.
C. By using a famous saying from a brain scientist.
D. By asking questions to the readers.
2. According to Paragraph 3, which of the following title is the most suitable description for the chart?
A.Brain size comparison B.Ability to control behavior
C.Pleasure chemical production D.Time spent on social activities
3. Why are teenagers more likely to take risks according to the passage?
A.They have a better understanding of rules.
B.They produce chemicals that make them feel good.
C.They care less about the possible results of their actions.
D.They receive more encouragement from their friends.
4. According to Paragraph 4, why do scientists believe the teen brain encourages social behavior?
A.Because teenagers are too young to stay alone.
B.Because it makes teenagers forget about taking risks.
C.Because it is a way to prepare them for future adult life.
D.Because it helps teenagers to control their impulses better.
5. What is the writer’s main purpose in writing this passage?
A.To warn parents about the dangers of teen risks.
B.To encourage teenagers to be more independent.
C.To compare the brains of teenagers and adults.
D.To explain the influence of the growing teen brain.

Arts and heritage are some old treasures of our picture cultures. They carry the stories, beliefs, and traditions of our ancestors. 36 Without them, we would not know where we came from.
37 Old buildings are often knocked down to make space for new roads and skyscrapers. Traditional arts, such as hand-weaving or folk singing, are losing their popularity among young people. 38 Therefore, if we do not take action now, we may lose these treasures forever.
Protecting heritage is not only the duty of governments, but also of every individual. For example, we can visit local museums and learn about our history. 39 When we show interest, young people may become more willing to learn traditional skills. As a result, these customs can stay alive for future generations.
In conclusion, arts and heritage are living parts of our culture. Although they belong to the past, they still influence our lives today. 40 After all, a society without its heritage is like a tree without its roots.
A. Moreover, wars and natural disasters can destroy cultural sites in a single day.
B. If we value and protect them, they will continue to enrich our world.
C. However, many forms of heritage are disappearing today.
D. They connect us to our identity and the past.
E. We can also support artists by buying their handmade works or attending their performances.
