This sports centre has three key renovation zones. Let’s unlock them!
When we don’t care about who does the work, but focus on what has been done / what is being done to the things themselves, we use the passive voice.

Exploring the rules
Exploring the rules
Frances is reading a leaflet about a sports centre. Help him answer the following questions.
1. What’s the leaflet about?
2. How can you find more details about the courses?
It’s about the facilities and courses of a sports centre, which will soon be open to the public once again.
We can find more details about the courses on the website of the sports centre.
Exploring the rules
Read the leaflet again and find the sentences in the leaflet that use the passive voice in the present continuous and present perfect tenses.
Are you ready to get fit? We are happy to announce that the Community Sports Centre will soon be open to the public once again! Our facilities have been enlarged and redone, and our centre is now bigger and better than ever before. The finishing touches are now being put to a new swimming pool and our workout rooms have been updated with modern equipment. Come by and check them out!
There are a lot of fitness courses for you to choose from. In response to public interest, our aerobics class has been replaced with several fun options, including modern dance. You can find more details about all our courses on our website. Better still, we will update our fitness courses every few months so that more popular courses can be included. Weight training classes, for example, are being designed and will be added to our programme soon. We will invite professional athletes to be our coaches. We are confident that we have something for everyone. We look forward to seeing you here!

A memorable fun sports meeting
Last week our school held a much-anticipated fun sports meeting, bringing a precious relaxation to all senior one students.
All classes of senior one participated actively. The most popular events included the “two-person three-legged race” where partners tied legs and ran in harmony, and the “tug-of-war with balloons” where teams pulled ropes without popping the balloons tied to their wrists, filling the playground with cheers.
This activity not only helped us relax from our busy studies, but also improved our teamwork and friendship. It was such a great experience that we all look forward to more activities like this.

Dear Tom,
Knowing that you’re choosing a sport to take part in the upcoming school sports meet, I’m writing to recommend the 100-meter race.
Firstly, it’s really accessible. Unlike long-distance running, which needs weeks of endurance training, or high jump, which relies on tricky technical skills, the 100 m only requires a little practice. What’s more, it’s so exciting! The whole school will cheer loudly when you’re on the track.
If you want tips on practicing or picking the right shoes, just let me know.
Yours,
Li Hua
