You’re never too old for a little fun. From fairy-tale forests to record-breaking roller coasters (过山车), these four theme parks will bring out the kid in anyone.
Universal Orlando Resort (度假区) (Florida, USA)
When teenagers outgrow cartoon characters, Universal Orlando is the perfect choice. Its brand-new Epic Universe park features lands themed after How to Train Your Dragon and Nintendo series. Don’t miss Florean Fortescue’s ice cream shop in the Harry Potter area — the Sticky Toffee Pudding flavor is amazing. The line for Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure is long, but worth every minute. Tip: Stay at Hard Rock Hotel or Loews Royal Pacific Resort to get free skip-the-line passes.
Cedar Point (Ohio, USA)
Located on the shores of Lake Erie, Cedar Point is a paradise for roller coaster lovers. With 18 coasters, it has something for everyone. Steel Vengeance still holds five world records, and Millennium Force was the world’s first super-sized coaster over 300 feet tall. Top Thrill 2 was once the tallest and fastest coaster on Earth. Watch out for tiny bugs in summer — they don’t bite, but avoid sitting in the front row at night.
Efteling (Netherlands)
Efteling feels like stepping into a living fantasy world. You’ll see a donkey that drops gold coins and a talking bin that takes your garbage. Start your morning at Polles Keuken, the park’s famous pancake restaurant. Then explore the Fairytale Forest, where classic stories come to life. If you enjoy frightening rides, try Dans Macabre — it’s truly scary. Bring coins for the fun souvenir (纪念品) machines.
Europa-Park (Germany)
This massive German park is like a wild, distinctive version of a world’s fair. It has areas themed after different European countries. Don’t miss the Silver Star, one of the tallest and fastest coasters in Europe. And if you love wooden coasters, Wodan is a must — a giant wooden coaster that reaches 100 km/h and stands 40 meters tall. At Food Loop, your meals slide down a roller coaster track to your table. For a truly unique dinner, Eatrenalin is a fine-dining experience where your seat “floats” through different rooms as you eat.
21. What helps guests skip the lines for free at Universal Orlando Resort?
A. Buying tasty ice cream. B. Staying at specific hotels.
C. Visiting Epic Universe early. D. Taking exciting motorbike rides.
22. In which park can visitors put rubbish into a talking waste bin?
A. Cedar Point. B. Europa-Park.
C. Efteling. D. Universal Orlando Resort.
23. What do Cedar Point and Europa-Park share?
A. Tall, fast roller coasters. B. Coin-operated souvenir machines.
C. A floating-seat dining experience. D. Unique Harry Potter-themed zones.

I grew up in England with a British father and a Chinese mother. Ever since I could hold a knife and fork — and chopsticks — I have enjoyed the food of both countries.
My mum loves the food from her Sichuan home town and often makes spicy dishes. Because of this, Dad has learnt to love hot pot! But there are still dishes Dad dares not try. He was shocked to see the Chinese eat almost every part of an animal, and even today he will not easily eat chicken feet.
But I enjoy that kind of food myself. Last week I went to the butcher’s and asked for pig’s ears. “No,” he said, pulling at his own ears, “just these ordinary ones.” He must have thought I was joking.
Dad can cook a great English breakfast of bacon, eggs, beans and sausages. He also makes a Sunday roast. We all love it, but Mum says we should not eat too much, as it may cause inner heat.
I will never forget my first visit to China. Mum asked me to try many foods, and I loved everything. But when I thought I could eat all Chinese food, I met stinky tofu, a horrible grey thing like a burnt sports shoe. “You don’t have to try it,” Mum said, but I summoned my courage and took a bite. It was not so bad — like blue cheese. Maybe I will love stinky tofu someday.
People say one man’s meat is another man’s poison, but I feel at home with both kinds of food. To me, nothing beats a cross-cultural afternoon tea of English biscuits and Chinese oolong tea.
24. What surprised the author’s dad about Chinese food?
A. The food was much too spicy. B. The meals were always served cold.
C. The dishes were all cooked with meat. D. People ate almost every part of an animal.
25. What does the underlined word “summoned” in paragraph 5 probably mean?
A. Lost. B. Gathered. C. Hid. D. Lacked.
26. What did the author think of stinky tofu after trying it?
A. He did not want to eat it again. B. He thought it was disgusting.
C. It was not as bad as he had thought. D. He was sure he love it very much.
27. What is the best title for the text?
A. A Trip to China to Taste Food. B. A Father Who Cooks British Breakfast.
C. A Study of Chinese and British Medicine. D. A Child Who Enjoys Food From Two Cultures.

Before 2021, the typically cool Pacific Northwest and western Canada seemed highly unlikely to get a killer heat wave, but they did. Many in North Carolina figured that hurricanes were a coastal problem until Helene blew in last year. After the deadly flood in central Texas in 1987, some thought they could handle the worst flooding in the future. Then came this month’s terrible flash flood that killed more than 179 people.
Climate change is making extreme weather events more frequent and intense, according to climate data. But experts warn that people and governments are generally living in the past and haven’t accepted that extreme weather is becoming a new norm.
“There’s plenty of evidence that we start to experience things that just basically never happened before,” Princeton University climate scientist Michael Oppenheimer said. “Unfortunately, when these risks are coming right at us like a fast-moving train, we just stand in the tracks. Then, all of a sudden, ‘BOM’.”
“Time and again after catastrophic storms and wildfires, people whose lives were ruined said they didn’t think they could happen to them again. It’s sort of a psychological mechanism to protect themselves from the terrible stress caused by those disasters. But with extreme weather events happening more frequently and in more places, this mindset can prevent them from making proper preparations,” said Kim Klockow McClain, an extreme weather social scientist at the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research who studies communicating disaster warnings and risk. “The message needs to be, ‘If you’re used to some degree of flooding, look at what happened in Texas and realize that this is a shifting baseline.’”
As for future disasters, the country needs to figure out and plan for the worst case instead of looking to the past. It’s obvious that we’re living into a future where what used to be extreme becomes average, typical, and what used to never occur in a human lifetime or maybe even in a thousand years becomes the new extreme.
28. What message does the author want to convey in the first two paragraphs?
A. It is very difficult to predict natural disasters. B. It is dangerous to take the new situation lightly.
C. Cool areas are also affected by climate change. D. Extreme events used to occur more frequently.
29. How does Michael Oppenheimer most probably feel about the current situation?
A. Pleased. B. Apologetic. C. Worried. D. Unconcerned.
30. What is the survivors’ reaction to similar future disasters, according to paragraph 4?
A. They usually appear to be too optimistic. B. They do their best to get prepared for them.
C. They tend to cooperate with the authorities. D. They are willing to seek professional advice.
31. What does the author call on the governments and people to do?
A. Learn from the past. B. Get prepared for the worst.
C. Move to safer places. D. Resign to the extreme climate.
D
As hurtful as it can be for a friend or partner to put us down, it is far worse when we find a critic in our own head that keeps criticizing and doubting ourselves. To break free from the self-criticism, and achieve inner peace and self-acceptance, an extremely important step is to understand the three “parts” of us: the inner critic, the inner victim and the inner observer.
The inner critic sits deeply within our sense of ourselves. That means that it — or the seeds of it — was placed there at an early age. For example, if our parents called us stupid or worthless as a child, it is understandable that our child-self would learn to be self-critical and view ourselves with doubt or even shame. Since all humans are imperfect, the inner critic’s message may make the inner victim “objectively” believe what the inner critic has said and feel worthless.
On the other hand, the inner observer is a kind of self-awareness. It understands the inner critic’s origin and motivation and, in all likelihood, would not agree with what the inner critic has said — and might even offer a few choice words in response. For instance, it might remind the inner victim, “Remember, even if you feel what the critic has said is true, it does not mean that it is true.” In other words, the inner observer offers a possibility for change by connecting with the two “parts” to help us achieve self-acceptance and inner peace.
Having recognized the dynamics among the three “parts” of us, we can start to break free from self-criticism. First, reflect on why the child-self so often feels bad in the upsetting present-day situations. Then, respond to the child-self’s pain with sympathy and compassion. Once the child-self’s pain is addressed, we are able to question or even free ourselves from self-criticism. Though it may be a long process from self-criticism to self-acceptance, in the end, we can find greater inner peace and build a happier relationship with ourselves.

As far as I can remember, I’ve always been a night owl. Even in middle school I would stay up very late. I would feel completely at ease doing my homework in bed, with light music on. I found comfort in keeping myself awake when everyone else had gone to bed, and I loved the silence of the night. My parents urged me to get out of this so-called unhealthy habit, but their repeated requests fell on deaf ears.
Fast forward to my first year of college. I still loved the night and would stay up until unruly hours for no apparent reason, chatting online and watching videos. When I finally started to study, I would race through the assigned work, often well past midnight. My roommates would tell me to go to bed and get up early the following morning to do it instead. Get up early to do my homework? No way! I would never do that.
Then, one day last term, I did exactly that. Bent over my laptop while sitting on the bed in the corner of my room, I suddenly felt a pounding headache, and had to lie down. Unable to keep my eyes open, I decided I had no choice but to finish my homework the next morning. I woke up at 6am. Hardly had I written half a page when I felt a sharp pain in my chest.
At the school clinic, a doctor, with a serious expression on his face, handed me a medical report. “You’re 20, but your heart is 40!” he said. A cold wave went through me. I realized that years of living as a late-night person had turned my heart into an overworked engine.

Mom’s Silent Love
When sorting my bookshelf recently, I came across a pile of encouraging cards made by Mum years ago. I was instantly touched.
Back then, whenever I felt upset or failed exams, she would secretly leave a card beside my desk. Each card carried warm words and simple drawings, cheering me up. I totally forgot about them until this discovery.
These little cards are far more than paper. They hold Mum’s silent love. They teach me that love often lies in small, ordinary moments. I decide to pass on such warmth by caring for people around me.
第二节(满分25分)
【67题答案】
【答案】Struck by the doctor’s warning, I knew I had to make a change. That very night, I initiated my battle against my deep-rooted habits. I forcibly switched off my laptop and phone at 10 p.m., placing them completely out of reach. However, my rebellious biological clock refused to cooperate. I tossed and turned in the darkness, the silence of the room amplifying my anxiety. The urge to grab my phone and drown in videos was overwhelmingly tempting. Just as my willpower was about to crumble, the doctor's stern voice and that terrifying sharp pain in my chest echoed in my mind, anchoring me back to reality. I squeezed my eyes shut, practicing deep breathing until exhaustion finally claimed me.
Slowly but surely, my efforts to adjust to the new routine paid off. The mornings, which used to be my greatest enemy, gradually transformed into a welcoming friend. Instead of racing through assignments with a foggy brain at midnight, I found myself tackling them with a clear and focused mind in the golden sunlight. Not only did the heavy burden on my chest vanish, but an unprecedented sense of vitality also flowed through my veins. When I proudly showed my parents my improved medical report during the holiday, their relieved smiles were my best reward. I finally realized that true comfort isn't found in the unruly hours of the night, but in the vibrant rhythm of a disciplined life.
