I have dreamt of taking a trip to Hawaii since I graduated, but the best thing always needs waiting. I took a trip with my friends to Haleakala National Park, which lies in Hawaii.
When we arrived at Haleakala National Park, we were advised to watch the early morning sunrise. I was lost in the sightseeing (观光) that afternoon, so I could hardly wait to see the sunrise. The next morning, we all got out of bed very early and got to the seaside at 3 o’clock. In the first half an hour, we imagined how wonderful it would be when the first light came out through the thick clouds and how soft it would be when the light touched our skin, so we waited and waited. However, another half an hour later, I gradually lost my patience since there was nothing but the chilly darkness, and I felt that I was frozen to death. But my friends were still extremely cheerful.
Nearly another one hour later, “Amazing!” Judy burst out and we all shouted to welcome the light, which was really unbelievable. Until today, I dare say that it is the most impressive sunrise in my life. However, waiting in the morning darkness is also one memory I can’t forget forever.

China has accepted western fashion and technology as it has developed these years, but a lot of young people are turning to the past for their clothes choices and putting on traditional “hanfu”.
As the government encourages the renaissance (复兴) of traditional culture, hanfu is getting more and more popular with the teenagers. Every year, we can enjoy different hanfu shows around the cities. These shows bring us back to the Han dynasty (汉朝). We learn more about the history, culture and beauty from them.
Hanfu hasn’t been in the same style since the Han dynasty. However, this kind of clothes has something in common. They all have large soft robes (袍子), with sleeves that hang down to the knees, so the hands can’t be seen.
In modern China, the hanfu lovers are from history fans, cartoon fans to clothes fans.
“Clothes are the basic part of culture, so both the traditional clothes and modern clothes play the same role in culture,” said Zhang Jun, a famous reporter. “If the people and the country do not even understand our traditional clothes or don’t wear them, how can we talk about other important parts of our culture?”

Using AI to help write a message to a friend is not a good idea — at least if your friend finds out about the use of AI, a new study suggests.
Researchers found that people in the study believed that a friend who used AI to write them a message didn’t put in as much effort as a friend who wrote a message themselves. That may be understandable, but the effect goes beyond the message itself, said Bingjie Liu, lead author of the study. “After they get an AI message, our participants (参与者) feel less satisfied with their relationship with their friend and feel more uncertain about where they stand,” Liu said.
But to be fair to AI, it wasn’t just the use of technology that turned people off. “People want their partners or friends to make an effort to come up with their own message without help from AI or other people,” Liu said.
“People want to know how much you want to invest in your friendship and if they feel you are cutting corners by using AI to help, that’s not good,” Liu explained.
Of course, most people won’t tell a friend that they used AI to help write a message, Liu said. But she noted that as ChatGPT becomes more popular, people may start doing a Turing Test in their minds as they read messages from friends and others. Turing Test is sometimes used to refer to people wondering if they can tell whether an action was taken by a computer or a person.
“It could be that people will secretly do this Turing Test in their minds, trying to figure out if messages have some AI component (成分),” Liu said. “It may hurt relationships.” The answer is to do your own work in relationships, she said. “Don’t use technology just because it is convenient. Sincerity still matters a lot in relationships.”
12. How did people in the study feel about receiving an AI message from their friend?
A. Thankful. B. Surprised.
C. Dissatisfied. D. Embarrassed.
13. Why do people prefer that friends write messages themselves instead of using AI?
A. AI messages often have many mistakes.
B. People believe AI lacks emotional depth.
C. Friends who use AI are considered dishonest.
D. People want to see the effort invested in the friendship.
14. What’s the purpose of starting a Turing Test according to Liu?
A. To judge the level of ChatGPT.
B. To see if AI has been used in a message.
C. To test the sincerity of an online friend.
D. To learn how to communicate with AI.
15. What is Liu’s suggestion?
A. Believing in the development of technology.
B. Paying attention to real-world friends.
C. Being actively honest in relationships.
D. Thinking twice before making a convenient choice.

【答案】12. C 13. D 14. B 15. C

【20题详解】
上文“Again, if you are likely to suffer a migraine attack, then water can help fight it off.(再次,如果你容易遭受偏头痛发作,那么水可以帮助抵御它。)”指出水可以帮助抵御偏头痛,F选项“Your doctor might have already told you that headaches happen due to lack of water(你的医生可能已经告诉过你,头痛是由于缺水引起的)”承接上文,解释了头痛与缺水之间的关系,为上文“水可以帮助抵御偏头痛”提供了依据;下文“So just by increasing your water intake, you are basically preventing your chances from suffering another headache attack.(所以,仅仅通过增加水的摄入量,你基本上就在预防再次遭受头痛发作的可能性。)”进一步得出了增加喝水可以预防头痛的结论,与F选项中的“headaches happen due to lack of water”直接呼应,上下文语意连贯。

【答案】Dear Ms. Smith,
I’d like to share my junior high life. The most unforgettable thing was winning the English speech contest last year. It built up my confidence and made me love English more. For senior high, I plan to improve English by listening to BBC news and reading more English novels so that I can expand my vocabulary. I also hope to make new friends and learn to be more independent in the coming three years.
I’m really looking forward to my new journey because it will be a fresh start where I can explore unknown possibilities and become a better version of myself.
Yours,
Li Yang
