Do you know anyone born in the Year of the Tiger? What’s their personality like? Are they brave, strong and sympathetic? If so, then they are a typical “tiger”. In Chinese culture, tigers symbolize power, energy, protection, generosity and unpredictability. They are fearless creatures. That is why in China you can see images of tigers on the walls of temples and houses to ward off (挡住) disasters and danger.
Tigers have an important cultural significance not just in China, but across Asia. In the book Life of Pi, the Canadian writer Yann Martel chose a Bengal tiger as the partner for Indian boy Pi on his survival adventure in the Pacific Ocean. Another example is French fashion brand KENZO .It takes the tiger as its main theme when it tries to combine Eastern elements with European design.
In the West, lions are considered as the king of all beasts. Brave warriors were given the name “the lion”.But tigers are also seen as a very powerful animal. In English, if you want someone to calm down, you can say to them, “easy tiger”. Another famous phrase is “Eye of the Tiger”, which means fierceness and strength.
Just like tigers serve as a symbol of protection in Chinese culture, I do hope my favorite animal will live freely in the eco-friendly environment.
1. personality n.
3. sympathetic adj.
5. symbolize v.
7. unpredictability n.
9. significance n.
11. combine v.
1. That is why in China you can see images of tigers on the walls of temples and houses to ward off disasters and danger.
Just like tigers serve as a symbol of protection in Chinese culture, I do hope my favorite animal will live freely in the eco-friendly environment.
句首Just like引导方式状语从句,说明主句内容的参照依据:状语从句中tigers作主语,serve as是固定短语作谓语,意为“充当,作为”,a symbol of protection是宾语,in Chinese culture为地点状语。主句中I是主语,助动词do放在实义动词hope前表强调,意为“的确,真心”,hope后接省略了引导词that的宾语从句;宾语从句中my favorite animal作主语,will live作谓语,freely是方式状语修饰动词live,in the eco-friendly environment是地点状语,说明老虎生存的环境。

Passage 1
(2026-2027学年高一上·安徽亳州·阶段检测)Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has been around for thousands of years. But recently, it has found a new stage: social media. From the well-known gua sha tools to the practice of drinking hot water, TCM-inspired habits are becoming popular in health care around the world.
Videos on platforms like TikTok and Instagram make TCM practices more amazing and magical than they really are. They show people boiling apples for better digestion, changing iced coffee to hot water, or wearing slippers indoors — small habits like these are described as keys to a longer, healthier life.
But what is behind this trend? Unlike Western medicine, which often treats symptoms(症状) one by one, TCM views the body as an interconnected system and focuses on balance within the body. It uses ideas such as qi (vital energy), yin and yang, and the interaction between the body and its environment. The goal is to prevent illness and achieve a harmonious state, rather than simply treating illness.
However, the rapid spread of these traditions online raises worries. On social media, complex(复杂的) traditions are often cut into simple daily tips like drinking hot water or avoiding cold foods. When practices that developed over centuries are reduced to quick advice, the deep philosophical and cultural bases behind them can disappear. What remains is a simplified version of a much richer system of knowledge.
There are also practical worries. While many people use TCM for relaxation and preventative care, scientists note that some herbal(草药) treatments don’t have enough medical evidence and can even carry risks. The line between a cultural practice and medical advice can easily be unclear online.
Despite these debates, the popularity of Chinese wellness reflects a real search for balance in today’s fast-paced world. Whether people are embracing the deep philosophy or simply the beauty of these traditions, it’s clear that TCM has firmly entered the global self-care conversation.
1. How do online platforms describe TCM practices according to the passage?
A. As difficult tasks. B. As easy-to-follow health tips.
C. As fashionable lifestyle habits. D. As advanced medical treatments.
2. What makes TCM different from Western medicine?
A. It depends on the environment. B. It treats one symptom at a time.
C. It helps keep the whole body balanced. D. It can cure all kinds of diseases.
3. What worry does the author raise about the spread of TCM on social media?
A. Unclear herbal treatments. B. Unnecessary medical cost.
C. Losing deeper cultural meaning. D. Paying more attention to quick advice.
4. What is the main purpose of the passage?
A. To describe how to use TCM practices.
B. To discuss TCM’s rising online popularity.
C. To argue TCM is better than Western medicine.
D. To warn against online TCM health trends.
B 2. C 3. C 4. B

Passage 2
(2026-2027学年高一上·湖南邵阳·阶段检测)It’s thought that the first ever Chinese restaurant opened in 1908 in the UK. This establishment was located in Piccadilly Circus, London. Although this was a massive breakthrough for the cuisine, it didn’t pick up popularity for years.
Back in the 1950’s the idea of Chinese food in the UK and America was simplistic; tinned Chinese curries(咖喱菜肴), processed foods and confused flavours, like Chinese food on pizza. Takeout restaurants were few and far between and other cuisines with less experimental flavours were favoured by Western palates(味蕾).
It wasn’t until the 1960’s and 1970’s that Chinese food began getting the recognition it should earn. More people began arriving on Western soil from China and Chinatown started development in the 1970’s, when chefs began talking about foreign flavours. One essential figure during this period was Kenneth Lo. He wrote more than 30 books on Chinese cooking from the 1950’s to the 1990’s, with over one million copies sold in Britain.
Lo also opened a cooking school in London during the 1980’s, which was hailed as(被誉为) Europe’s first Chinese cooking school. Alongside this, people began opening up to the idea of varied flavours but dishes had to make the most of the ingredients available in the West. Chinese chefs began to adapt dishes to use readily available ingredients and also appeal more to Western palates. This ended with the creation of dishes that a Western audience perceives as Chinese that you wouldn’t even find in China. For example, Chop Suey used to be one of the most popular dishes found in the West but you wouldn’t be able to find this dish with ease in China. The same goes for the beloved fortune cookies.
Nowadays, more travel of British people to China for business or leisure has exposed consumers to more varieties and both authentic(真正的) and modern Chinese flavours. No longer do those living in the West fear complex, unfamiliar and unaccustomed flavours; instead they accept the contrast and try to include them into their diet.
5. What happened to Chinese food after the first Chinese restaurant opened in London?
A. It went through great changes. B. It went unnoticed for a long time.
C. It was mainly sold as takeout food. D. It started to have a big share of the local market.
6. What did Kenneth Lo do to promote Chinese food?
A. He wrote many books on Chinese cooking.
B. He worked in a Chinese restaurant in Chinatown.
C. He commented on popular books on Chinese food.
D. He travelled across China to learn Chinese cooking.
7. Why are Chop Suey and fortune cookies mentioned in paragraph 4?
A. To prove many ingredients were needed to make them.
B. To show they were the most popular Chinese dishes in London.
C. To show Chinese dishes were adapted to satisfy Westerners’ taste.
D. To prove the ingredients used in Western cuisine preparation were simple.
8. What is the Westerners’ attitude towards Chinese food nowadays?
A. Concerned. B. Regretful. C. Unclear. D. Receptive.
B 6. A 7. C 8. D
根据第一段“It’s thought that the first ever Chinese restaurant opened in 1908 in the UK. This establishment was located in Piccadilly Circus, London. Although this was a massive breakthrough for the cuisine, it didn’t pick up popularity for years.(人们认为英国第一家中餐馆于1908年开业,坐落于伦敦皮卡迪利广场。尽管这对于中餐来说是巨大突破,但多年来它并没有流行起来)”可知,伦敦第一家中餐馆开业后,中餐在很长一段时间里不受关注。
6. 细节理解题。根据第三段“One essential figure during this period was Kenneth Lo. He wrote more than 30 books on Chinese cooking from the 1950’s to the 1990’s, with over one million copies sold in Britain.(这一时期的关键人物是罗孝建。从20世纪50年代到90年代,他撰写了30多本关于中国烹饪的书籍,在英国销量超100万册)”可知,Kenneth Lo写了大量中餐相关书籍来推广中餐。
7. 细节理解题。根据第四段“Chinese chefs began to adapt dishes to use readily available ingredients and also appeal more to Western palates. This ended with the creation of dishes that a Western audience perceives as Chinese that you wouldn’t even find in China. For example, Chop Suey used to be one of the most popular dishes found in the West but you wouldn’t be able to find this dish with ease in China. The same goes for the beloved fortune cookies.(中餐厨师开始改良菜品,使用容易获取的食材,更加迎合西方人的味蕾。由此诞生了西方人眼中的中餐,但这些菜在中国本土根本找不到。例如,炒杂碎曾是西方最受欢迎的菜品之一,但在中国很难找到这道菜,受人喜爱的幸运饼干也是如此)”可知,列举炒杂碎和幸运饼干是为了说明中餐菜品经过改良来迎合西方人的口味。
8. 细节理解题。根据最后一段“No longer do those living in the West fear complex, unfamiliar and unaccustomed flavours; instead they accept the contrast and try to include them into their diet.(西方人不再惧怕复杂陌生的口味;相反,他们接受这种差异,并尝试将中餐纳入日常饮食)”可知,如今西方人对中餐持接纳的态度。
Passage 3
(2026-2027学年高一上·云南大理·阶段检测)The Mid-Autumn Festival, falling on the 15th day of the eighth month, is one of the most important traditional festivals in China. As the moon reaches its fullest and brightest on that night, the festival stands for family reunion(团圆).
The history of the Mid-Autumn Festival dates back more than 3,000 years. In ancient times, Chinese rulers held ceremonies where people were together to take a joyful look at the moon in autumn. Later, common people followed this tradition. It was not until the Tang Dynasty that enjoying the moon became a popular activity among common people, and the festival was fixed as an official(官方的) celebration activity during the Song Dynasty.
Mooncakes are the most famous food for the festival. They are round, just like the full moon, bringing people’s wishes for family togetherness. People usually eat mooncakes while watching the moon in the open air. Besides mooncakes, families also prepare fruits such as pomelos and grapes for the night.
Nowadays, many families still keep the old traditions. However, some young people choose to celebrate the festival in new ways. Some travel with their family and some hang out with friends of their age while others who work far away from home send mooncakes to relatives and friends through online shopping. No matter how people celebrate it, the core meaning of the festival never changes — the love for family and the hope for reunion.
9. What is the core meaning of the Mid-Autumn Festival?
A. Love between the older and younger generations.
B. Love between men and women.
C. Love between parents and children.
D. Love between families.
10. When did enjoying the moon become popular among common people?
A. In the Tang Dynasty. B. In the Song Dynasty.
C. About 3000 years ago. D. In the Han Dynasty.
11. Why do people celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival by eating mooncakes?
A. They taste better than other fruits.
B. They are cheap and easy to buy.
C. Their shape looks like the moon and means family reunion.
D. They were officially invented in the Song Dynasty.
12. What is unchanged about the Mid-Autumn Festival nowadays?
A. Its core meaning of family reunion. B. The ways young people celebrate it.
C. The kinds of mooncakes people eat. D. The online shopping for mooncakes.
D 10. A 11. C 12. A
根据第四段“No matter how people celebrate it, the core meaning of the festival never changes — the love for family and the hope for reunion. (无论人们如何庆祝,这个节日的核心意义永远不会改变——对家庭的爱和对团圆的期盼。)”可知,中秋节的核心意义是家庭之间的爱和对团圆的期盼。
10. 细节理解题。根据第二段“It was not until the Tang Dynasty that enjoying the moon became a popular activity among common people, and the festival was fixed as an official (官方的) celebration activity during the Song Dynasty. (直到唐朝,赏月才成为民间流行的活动,并在宋朝被定为官方庆祝活动。)”可知,赏月是在唐朝开始在民间流行的。

Passage 4
(2025-2026学年高一下·山东枣庄·期末)Back in China, Emily Chang’s job was to promote Starbucks. She helped Chinese people love coffee, even though China has a long history of drinking tea. 1 . Her new job is the opposite: introducing Chinese tea to America, a country that loves coffee.
Last year, Chagee became one of the many firms trying to gain a foothold in America. These shops sell bubble tea, fruit tea, and fresh Chinese tea, sometimes capped with milky foam. They are competing with older tea shops which first made “boba” popular in America. Interestingly, the coffee market in America is 28 times larger than the fresh tea market. 2
However, the Chinese firms’ presence is still small. HeyTea has led the way, opening more than 40 American shops since 2023. 3 . Mixue, a giant bubble-tea and ice-cream seller, is the world’s largest food-and-beverage chain. But just five of its 60,000 outlets are in America.
4 Partly because there are already many tea shops in China, companies want to find new customers abroad. Some Americans think bubble tea is healthier than dessert, especially low-sugar options. “Coffee gives me a caffeine crash, but tea doesn’t,” said one customer in New York.
At a busy Mixue shop in New York, Spring Oolong Milk Tea sells for $3.99. A Chinese-American customer, Eric Li, said he is happy to see many non-Chinese enjoying his culture. “There is some international tension right now. 5 ” he said.
A. Why so few?
B. What should they do?
C. This means there is a lot of room for tea to grow.
D. Now she works for Chagee, a Chinese tea brand.
E. Yet she still wants to promote coffee culture in China.
F. Isn’t it good that everyone can get together over a drink?
G. Just nine of Chagee’s 7,500-odd global outlets are in the States.
D 2. C 3. G 4. A 5. F
1. 上文“Back in China, Emily Chang’s job was to promote Starbucks. She helped Chinese people love coffee, even though China has a long history of drinking tea.(在中国时,艾米丽·张的工作是推广星巴克。她帮助中国人爱上咖啡,尽管中国有悠久的饮茶历史)”介绍了艾米丽过去在中国推广咖啡的经历。空后“Her new job is the opposite: introducing Chinese tea to America, a country that loves coffee.(她的新工作则相反:向热爱咖啡的美国介绍中国茶)”说明了她工作内容的转变。 D选项“Now she works for Chagee, a Chinese tea brand.(现在她为中国茶饮品牌霸王茶姬工作)”中的“Now”与前文“Back in China”形成时间对比,“works for Chagee”直接解释了她新工作的具体内容,符合语境。
2. 上文“Interestingly, the coffee market in America is 28 times larger than the fresh tea market.(有趣的是,美国的咖啡市场规模是新鲜茶饮市场的28倍)”通过数据对比突显了美国咖啡市场的统治地位。空后“However, the Chinese firms’ presence is still small.(然而,中国企业的存在感仍然很小)”转而指出中国茶饮品牌在美国的现有规模有限。 C选项“This means there is a lot of room for tea to grow.(这意味着茶饮还有很大的增长空间)”中的“This”指代前文的巨大市场差距,既承接了上文的数据分析,又为后文描述企业扩张行为提供了逻辑前提,符合语境。
3. 上文“HeyTea has led the way, opening more than 40 American shops since 2023.(喜茶一马当先,自2023年以来已在美国开设了40多家门店)”以喜茶为例说明中国茶饮品牌的扩张速度。空后“Mixue, a giant bubble-tea and ice-cream seller, is the world’s largest food-and-beverage chain. But just five of its 60,000 outlets are in America.(蜜雪冰城这家巨型泡泡茶和冰淇淋销售商,是全球最大的餐饮连锁店。但在其全球6万家门店中,仅有5家位于美国)”通过蜜雪冰城的例子进一步强调了中国品牌在美门店数量稀少。空处位于段中,起到例证衔接作用。G选项“Just nine of Chagee’s 7,500-odd global outlets are in the States.(霸王茶姬在全球7500多家门店中,仅有9家位于美国)”继续列举霸王茶姬的具体数据,与前后文关于喜茶和蜜雪冰城的门店数据共同支撑了本段“presence is still small”的中心论点,符合语境。
4. 空后“Partly because there are already many tea shops in China, companies want to find new customers abroad. Some Americans think bubble tea is healthier than dessert, especially low-sugar options.(部分原因是中国国内的茶饮门店数量已经很多,所以品牌们想要在海外寻找新客户,还有一些美国人认为珍珠奶茶比甜点更健康,尤其是低糖款)”开始分析中国茶饮品牌出海的原因。空处位于段首,为后文的因果分析提出问题。A选项“Why so few?(为何如此之少?)”
5. 上文“There is some international tension right now.(目前存在一些国际紧张局势)”指出了当前的宏观背景。 F选项“Isn’t it good that everyone can get together over a drink?(大家能聚在一起喝杯饮料不是很好吗?)”
Passage 5
(2025-2026学年高一下·湖南长沙·期末)Duanwu is one of the most important traditional Chinese festivals. The date of the festival is said to be the date when Qu Yuan died — the fifth day of the fifth lunar month. It doesn’t follow the solar calendar we usually use. 6
According to traditional Chinese folk customs, the fifth lunar month is also called the “poisonous” month when many evil spirits and poisonous creatures appear. 7 Some people believe insects and pests are active during this summer month, which can bring infectious diseases to both humans and animals. This becomes the reason why people put calamus(菖蒲) on doors or windows to drive harmful insects from a house.
8 Fresh wormwood(艾草) is picked and put in the house, while the dried herb is often put into sachets(香囊) and worn during the festival. The herb, due to its medical functions, is not only a perfect choice for Duanwu, but also a daily necessity to many Chinese people.
9 People can use them during the Duanwu Festival, or the whole year to stay healthy. Wormwood can effectively drive mosquitoes and insects away in your house. Incense(香) is often made from wormwood that has been dried for at least three years. 10 Apart from this, there are some others deserving our favor. Soap made from wormwood is a reasonable choice, which can leave a natural scent on your body. Wormwood toothpaste and shampoo are good for your teeth and hair too, as the herb-based products can protect you in a safer and more natural way.
A. People hold different opinions.
B. This idea comes from ancient beliefs.
C. Therefore, the date is different from year to year.
D. There are some healthy products made from wormwood.
E. Calamus is always used by some people to drive insects away.
F. The longer the wormwood is dried, the stronger effect it will have.
G. Another widely-used herb to stay healthy with on Duanwu is wormwood.
C 7. B 8. G 9. D 10. F
6. 根据空前的“The date of the festival is said to be the date when Qu Yuan died — the fifth day of the fifth lunar month. It doesn’t follow the solar calendar we usually use.(端午节日期相传为屈原逝日,即农历五月初五,并不遵循我们常用的阳历。)” C选项“Therefore, the date is different from year to year (因此,端午节的日期每年都不相同)”中的Therefore表示因果,承接前文农历计时的特点,得出日期逐年变化的结论,符合语境。
7. 根据空前的“According to traditional Chinese folk customs, the fifth lunar month is also called the “poisonous” month when many evil spirits and poisonous creatures appear. (根据中国传统民间习俗,农历五月也被叫做“毒月”,这个月份会出现许多邪灵和有毒生物。)”以及空后的“Some people believe insects and pests are active during this summer month, which can bring infectious diseases to both humans and animals.(人们认为夏季五月虫害活跃,易给人畜带来传染病。)” B选项“This idea comes from ancient beliefs (这种说法源自古代的传统观念)”中的 This idea 指代前文“五月为毒月”的说法,承上启下,符合语境。
8. 根据空后的“Fresh wormwood(艾草) is picked and put in the house, while the dried herb is often put into sachets (香囊) and worn during the festival.(人们采摘新鲜艾草置于屋内,将干艾草制成香囊佩戴过节。)” G选项“Another widely-used herb to stay healthy with on Duanwu is wormwood (端午另一种用来养生的常用草本植物是艾草)”起到段落总起作用,承接上文菖蒲,引出本段艾草的相关习俗,符合语境。
9. 根据空后的“People can use them during the Duanwu Festival, or the whole year to stay healthy. Wormwood can effectively drive mosquitoes and insects away in your house.(人们可在端午或全年使用它们养生,艾草能有效居家驱蚊防虫。)” D选项“There are some healthy products made from wormwood (市面上有一些艾草制成的健康产品)”总领本段内容,引出下文各类艾草产品的具体用途,符合语境。

Dear Sir or Madam,
I am Li Hua, a Chinese student studying in London. Knowing that your cultural center is collecting suggestions for Mid-Autumn Festival activities, I’m writing to share my opinion.
Among the three activities, I strongly recommend Mooncake Crafting, which is one of the most typical traditions of the festival. Making mooncakes by hand can let local people intuitively experience Chinese festival culture and feel the warmth of reunion. They may also take the mooncakes they make home as special souvenirs. Besides, it is easy for people of all ages to join in and communicate with one another.
I hope my suggestion will be helpful to you.

A. Concerned. B. Regretful. C. Unclear. D. Receptive.
Passage 3
