A
Many of us suffer from a wish to be special. We usually assume that a special person is a better person and a special life is a better life. However, my experience has helped me to understand the high cost I have paid to be special: the extra time spent trying to impress others, the meals I was too tired to cook but I still cooked, the newspaper column that I just couldn’t stop working with...
I’ve been thinking about the cost a lot since becoming a mother. I know it is very natural to want our children to feel special, perhaps more special than others, so they can develop self-confidence. But I don’t think real self-confidence comes from being raised above others. It should come from being themselves and feeling loved for that in an ordinary way. It is not believing that they are the best and trying to be that. It is understanding that they have value for being them. It is very easy to give our children the impression that to be special, they need to try to be somebody else.
Perhaps the most valuable gift we can give them is the permission to be ordinary. Trying to be special or to live a special life can in reality take them further and further away from better ones. It can also lead them to lose sight of the precious moments of the life they are actually living.
Since I have become aware of this, I start to enjoy cooking simpler meals. I also feel much more freedom when writing this column. I feel less of a need to impress others than I used to. But now when I do feel that need, I can notice it and respond differently.
At first, it might be a little bit boring to be ordinary. Now I’ve grown much more aware of the beauty in ordinary moments I’m fortunate enough to experience each lovely day: my daughter’s playful smiles, the funny little sounds my cat makes late at night, among other small joys.
1. What does the underlined word “that” in Paragraph 2 refer to?
A. Paying a high price. B. Gaining self-confidence.
C. Being themselves. D. Trying to be special.
2. How does the author respond to the need to impress others now?
A. Occupy herself with her work. B. Try to react in a different way.
C. Keep working on her column. D. Turn her attention to her family.
3. What does the author say about her current life?
A. It is enjoyable. B. It is successful. C. It is stressful. D. It is boring.
根据第二段“But I don’t think real self-confidence comes from being raised above others. It should come from being themselves and feeling loved for that in an ordinary way. (但我认为真正的自信并非来自高人一等。它应当来源于做自己,并且因为这一点,以一种平凡的方式被爱着。)”可知,句中的“that”指代的是前半句提到的“being themselves (做自己)”。
【2题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段“But now when I do feel that need, I can notice it and respond differently. (但如今当我确实感觉到那种需要时,我能够注意到它,并做出不一样的回应。)”可知,作者现在面对想要给别人留下深刻印象的需求时,会尝试用不同的方式去应对。
【3题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段“Now I’ve grown much more aware of the beauty in ordinary moments I’m fortunate enough to experience each lovely day: my daughter’s playful smiles, the funny little sounds my cat makes late at night, among other small joys. (如今我越发体会到平凡瞬间里的美好,有幸度过每一段美好的日子:女儿俏皮的笑容、猫咪在深夜发出的有趣声响,以及其他种种小小的喜悦。)”可知,作者觉得当下的生活是令人愉悦的。

As AI art generators (生成器) take the world by storm, some people wonder if their works should count as art at all. The technology is still developing and has some problems to solve, which means there are indeed weaknesses to consider alongside the incredible artwork a good artificial intelligence can produce.
Art is regarded as the product of imagination, skill, experience, and emotion, usually meant to represent something for the public to enjoy. Artists spent time and effort putting their inner worlds onto these works. Machine intelligence also puts a lot of work into sorting through tons of data, linking someone’s commands to datasets, and trying to represent it as best as possible. The difference is that the AI is driven by commands instead of an emotional desire to express itself.
AI painters can produce over 1,000 original works of art with every tap of the enter key on a keyboard. But a mass-produced print of the Mona Lisa is worth less than the actual Leonardo da Vinci’s painting. Why? Because it is rare — there’s only one of the original. Should anyone pay for these things? And if an artist puts AI masterpieces up for sale, what should the price be?
AI art involves a program mimicking (模仿) the work of existing artists to create a new piece according to the request of a human. But who made the artwork, the machine or its user? And can the original artists charge for the unfair use of their works? Such questions create difficulties for AI to work with the art industry, while more people argue against accepting AI-generated art as sale worthy artworks.
Once we’ve answered those questions, we can deal with the really big one: When an AI-generated painting wins an award, who gets the prize?
4. How is AI art different from human art?
A. It is the product of experience. B. It costs less money to produce.
C. It combines many styles of work. D. It does not reflect human emotion.
5. Why does the writer mention Mona Lisa in the third paragraph?
A. To highlight the fame of the original painting.
B. To compare AI painters with Leonardo da Vinci.
C. To present the potential problem with AI-art value.
D. To show the advantages of AI painters over humans.
6. What can we infer from paragraph 4?
A. AI art makes it unclear who owns a work.
B. AI helps artists produce more artistic works.
C. AI art promotes the sale of artistic products.
D. Original artists may get paid for their works.
根据第二段“The difference is that the AI is driven by commands instead of an emotional desire to express itself.(区别在于人工智能是由指令驱动的,而不是表达自我的情感欲望。)”
根据第三段“But a mass-produced print of the Mona Lisa is worth less than the actual Leonardo da Vinci’s painting. Why? Because it is rare — there’s only one of the original. Should anyone pay for these things? And if an artist puts AI masterpieces up for sale, what should the price be?(但一幅批量印刷的《蒙娜丽莎》复制品,其价值却远低于列奥纳多・达・芬奇的原作。为什么?因为原作稀有——世上只有一幅真迹。人们是否应该为这些东西付费?如果一位艺术家把AI杰作拿去出售,价格又该怎么定?)”可知,作者提到《蒙娜丽莎》是为了引出并探讨AI艺术品在价值和定价方面存在的潜在问题。
【6题详解】
推理判断题。根据第四段“But who made the artwork, the machine or its user? And can the original artists charge for the unfair use of their works?(但是谁创作了这幅艺术品,是机器还是它的用户?原艺术家能因为他们的作品被不公平使用而收费吗?)”可知,AI艺术通过模仿现有艺术家的作品来生成新作品,这引发了关于作品到底归谁所有以及版权归属的争议,即AI艺术使得作品的所有权变得不明确。

More and more young people in China are spending their weekends in city parks — with a pair of binoculars (望远镜) instead of a phone. Birdwatching, once considered a hobby for older people, is quickly catching on among teenagers. On social media, short videos of city birds get millions of views, and some schools have even started birdwatching clubs.
“It started with a photo,” says Li Jia, a 16-year-old from Guangzhou. “A friend posted a picture of a small bird with blue feathers. I had never noticed birds like that, so I went to the park to look for one.” Two years later, she has recorded more than 120 kinds of birds in a notebook.
Young birdwatchers say the hobby is cheap and easy to begin. A pair of binoculars costs about 200 yuan, and parks are free. Better still, it gives them something screens cannot: a quiet mind. “When you are watching a bird, you forget about exams and messages for a while,” Li says. “You simply notice a small living thing.” Many say they sleep better after a morning outdoors.
The hobby is also good news for nature. Last spring, a group of students in Shenzhen photographed a kind of bird that had not been seen in the city for almost ten years. Their photos helped local researchers confirm the record — work that used to take years. “Young people have become our extra eyes in the field,” says Wang Lei, a biology teacher who leads weekend birdwalks. “They notice far more than we could alone.”
Not everyone can name the birds they see, and that hardly matters. As Wang puts it, “You don’t have to be an expert to enjoy nature. You only have to look up.” In cities where life moves fast, that may be the simplest way back to nature.
7. What made Li Jia take up birdwatching?
A. The picture of a blue bird. B. The school project on birds.
C. The request from a teacher. D. The bird missing for years.
8. What can we learn about birdwatching from paragraph 3?
A. It involves high cost to get started. B. It helps teens forget about all worries.
C. It is low-cost and mentally relaxing. D. It distracts teenagers from schoolwork.
9. What can young birdwatchers do for the research?
A. Count birds better than the experts. B. Provide evidence for bird records.
C. Replace the experts as extra eyes. D. Take bird photos for school clubs.
10. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. Teenagers are giving up their phones. B. More young people are visiting city parks.
C. Recording birds improves schoolwork. D. Birdwatching brings youngsters to nature.
A 8. C 9. B 10. D
根据第二段中““It started with a photo,” says Li Jia, a 16-year-old from Guangzhou. “A friend posted a picture of a small bird with blue feathers. I had never noticed birds like that, so I went to the park to look for one.”(“一切始于一张照片,”来自广州16岁的李佳(音译)说。“一个朋友发了一张长着蓝色羽毛小鸟的照片。我以前从没留意过这样的鸟,于是我去公园寻找这种鸟。”)”可知,是一张蓝色小鸟的照片让李佳开始观鸟。
【8题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段中“Young birdwatchers say the hobby is cheap and easy to begin. A pair of binoculars costs about 200 yuan, and parks are free. Better still, it gives them something screens cannot: a quiet mind.”(年轻的观鸟爱好者说这项爱好花费不高,容易入门。
根据第四段中“Last spring, a group of students in Shenzhen photographed a kind of bird that had not been seen in the city for almost ten years. Their photos helped local researchers confirm the record” (去年春天,深圳一群学生拍到了一种在这座城市近十年未见的鸟类。他们拍摄的照片帮助当地研究人员证实了这一记录)”可知,年轻的观鸟者可以为鸟类记录提供证据。
【10题详解】
主旨大意题。通读全文,根据第一段中“More and more young people in China are spending their weekends in city parks — with a pair of binoculars (望远镜) instead of a phone. Birdwatching, once considered a hobby for older people, is quickly catching on among teenagers.” 观鸟曾经被认为是老年人的爱好,现在在青少年中迅速流行起来)”以及最后一段中“In cities where life moves fast, that may be the simplest way back to nature.”

“Wow, these trees are so tall!” William shouted excitedly, while walking with his classmates in a forest near his school. They were on a field trip to the forest as part of a science lesson.
Over there, they met the forester (护林人), Victor. When William learned Victor lived in a simple wooden house there for years, he laughed at him with his friends.
Then, they passed by an entrance to a cave. William wanted to explore inside the cave, but his teacher didn’t allow it. “I’ll come back here,” he thought. On the way back to school, he remembered the exact location of the cave.
The next day, William asked his four friends to the cave together. They told their parents they would go to the library and return home in the evening. None of the teenagers told their parents about their plan to visit the cave.
When the teenagers reached the cave, they left their school bags outside to reduce the burden. One by one, they entered the cave. Just when they took a few steps inside, some rocks from the cave wall fell and blocked the entrance.
“How are we going to get out now?” one of the teenagers Sarah shouted. William had an idea and said, “Maybe we can try digging through the fallen rocks with our hands to reach the entrance.” But realizing getting out of the cave only by their hands was impossible, they had great fear. The sun was about to go down. The teenagers started calling for help, but nobody could hear them. The teenagers were losing hope.
Victor happened to pass by the entrance to the cave, and five school bags caught his attention. He also heard some sounds coming from inside the cave. “Who’s in there?” Victor shouted.
“I’m William! We came here yesterday with our teacher!” William replied instantly.
“Help us, please! We are stuck! Sarah can’t breathe here because of fear.”
“Okay, calm down, children!” Victor said. “I’ll help you get out!”

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Victor immediately called the first-aid center and rushed home. After a little while, Victor got back to the entrance with a shovel and a flashlight. “Hey! I’m back!” he shouted, assuring the kids that he would rescue them. Then, he began digging through the rocks at the entrance. It wasn’t easy for one man to dig through the rocks, but he was trying his best. Meanwhile, William and his friends tried to stay calm and told Sarah not to worry. A few minutes later, William and his friends could see the flashlight shine through the cave’s entrance, which made them excited.
Soon, the teenagers walked outside the cave and took a deep breath in the fresh air. Fortunately, Sarah felt better. Just then, medical workers arrived and examined the children carefully to make sure they were OK. William looked at Victor who was worn out and regretted making fun of him when they first met. He apologized to the great forester and thanked him for rescuing him and his friends. Later, the teenagers’ parents arrived and were grateful to Victor for his timely rescue. Also, the teenagers promised their parents they wouldn’t lie and take such a dangerous adventure again.

A
Many of us suffer from a wish to be special.
B
C
