Want to do something meaningful? Food banks, food pantries, and meal programs in the Feeding America network are continuing to do what they do best — provide meals to our communities. Whether you sort and pack food or distribute food, there are a lot of volunteer opportunities available.
How to volunteer?
Here are three simple steps:
1
Find a food bank in your community.
Use our search tool to find a food bank in the network.
2
Sign up for a volunteer shift.
Most food banks list their available volunteer shifts on their website.
3
Show up on time.
Every volunteer should get to work on time, without which the activity cannot go ahead smoothly.
What you can do to help at a food bank
Food sorting and packing. As donations come in various forms, food sorting and packing ensures that badly-needed food can reach the receivers without delay.
Shopping assistance. Assist families during their visit to the food bank.
Home delivery. Send meals to the elderly or people with disabilities or other health conditions.
Cooking and meal preparations. Cook and serve dinner at a soup kitchen or community meal.
Other ways to help
Host a food drive. A virtual food drive is a great way to help Feeding America reach more of our neighbors.
Make a donation. Your donations make it possible for millions of families to share meals and memories.
Fundraise for Feeding America. Start an online fundraiser in minutes with Team Feed.
Benefits
Volunteering not only helps fight hunger but also brings personal rewards. Regardless of nationality, volunteering speaks a universal language, which spreads love and hope across borders, reminding us that we are all part of one human family.
11. What is one expected to do to register for a volunteer shift?
A. Call the person in charge. B. Serve dinner at a soup kitchen.
C. Check the specific website. D. Visit the food bank in person.
12. What can volunteers do at a food bank?
A. Host a virtual food drive. B. Make a monthly donation.
C. Start an online fundraiser. D. Deliver food to those in need.

Artificial intelligence is changing how we predict the weather. Every year since 2018, Nature magazine has drawn up a list of emerging technologies to watch in the coming year. For 2026, one of the seven technologies on the list is AI-powered meteorology (气象学) — and for good reason.
Traditional weather forecasting relies on physics-based models. Supercomputers solve complex equations to simulate (模拟) how temperature, pressure, and wind evolve over time. These models are computationally expensive and often take hours to produce a single forecast. But AI is offering a faster, smarter alternative.
AI weather models are trained on decades of historical weather data. Instead of solving physical equations, they learn to recognize patterns and make predictions based on what they have seen before. The result is dramatic: forecasts that once took hours can now be generated in seconds. And they are not just faster — in many cases, they are also more accurate.
Consider Hurricane Melissa, which caused severe damage in the Caribbean last October. While traditional models were still processing data, an AI model developed by researchers at Google DeepMind in London anticipated (预料) that the storm would become a category-5 event days in advance. It also accurately predicted the hurricane’s path, giving local authorities more time to prepare.
But AI forecasting is not without its limitations. These models struggle with rare or unprecedented (前所未有的) weather events that fall outside their training data. A storm behaving in an entirely new way might confuse an AI system that has never seen anything like it. For this reason, most experts believe the future lies in combining both approaches — using AI for speed and traditional models for reliability in extreme cases.
One thing is already clear: AI has forever changed how we predict the weather, from local storms to global climate patterns.
14. What is an advantage of AI weather models over traditional ones?
A. They require less training data. B. They generate forecasts in less time.
C. They solve more complex equations. D. They can predict any type of weather.
15. What is a limitation of AI weather forecasting?
A. It is too slow for everyday use. B. It needs supercomputers to run.
C. It cannot learn from historical data. D. It struggles with rare weather events.
16. Which of the following is the best title for the text?
A. Hurricane Melissa: A Victory for AI B. AI Is Changing Weather Forecasting
C. AI vs Traditional Models: Which One Wins? D. The End of Physics-Based Weather Prediction
C
Digital dementia (痴呆) has become a common cognitive hypothesis (认知假说) in the 21st century — it has weakened our ability to remember phone numbers because we store them all in contact lists, filled our waking hours with passive screen time like mindlessly watching TV, and shifted our attention with endless information streams.
But does technology truly harm the aging brain? A comprehensive new study by researchers from the United States provides an unexpected answer. Published in Nature Human Behaviour, the study combined data from 57 previous studies, which included more than 411,000 adults aged over 50. Surprisingly, the research overall revealed that higher use of computers, smartphones, and the internet might actually be associated with lower rates of cognitive decline, with a 58 percent risk reduction.
Interestingly, the effect of technology use on brain function found in this study was similar to or stronger than other known protective factors, such as physical activity, or maintaining a healthy blood pressure. This benefit remained significant even when factors like socioeconomic status and overall health were taken into account.
Why does technology use benefit older adults? Researchers suggest it comes down to how we use it. Activities, like reading or learning a new language, are known to protect our brains as we age. Similarly, greater engagement with technology may serve as a form of mental exercise. Adapting to software updates or learning to use a new smartphone keeps the brain active. Additionally, technology helps older people stay socially connected and independent for longer.
“The impact of AI on the aging brain will only become evident in future decades. However, our ability to adapt to historical technological innovations, and the potential for this to support cognitive function, suggest the future may not be all bad. For example, advances in brain-computer connections offer new hope for people with neurological (神经系统的) disease or disability. We need to carefully study how these technologies affect cognitive health over time,” says Nikki-Anne Wilson.
17. How does the author introduce the topic?
A. By quoting an expert. B. By defining a concept.
C. By providing statistics. D. By giving examples.
18. What can be inferred about the protective effect of technology use?
A. It may outperform healthy management.
B. It can reduce the need for exercise.
C. It maintains the blood pressure.
D. It varies with socioeconomic status.
19. What determines the benefits of technology use on older adults?
A. The number of online friends. B. The mental and social stimulation.
C. The frequency of software updates. D. The independent and active reading.
20. What are Nikki-Anne Wilson’s words about?
A. Advances in technological innovations. B. Possible direction for further study.
C. More care to the neurologically disabled. D. Potential application of the findings.
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)

Is there anything I can do?” ____23____ Then, think about whether you should improve yourself or if his issues are unreasonable.
Apologize and make it right. If you’ve done something to hurt or offend someone, the best course of action is to try to make it right. Clearly say “I’m sorry”. Be sure not to say “I’m sorry you were offended” or anything that places blame on the other person. ____24____ Offer to make it right.

第三节(满分25分)
59. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Teaching is undoubtedly a demanding career. There are days when my passion for this amazing profession starts to fade. One of my college professors once told us to keep a desk drawer (抽屉) full of positive memories—reminders of why we chose teaching. This story is one of those “desk drawer” moments.
It’s the last day of finals week. There’s just one more exam standing between my students and summer break. I sit at the teacher’s desk, monitoring their progress. When the exam is over, the school year is over. They will walk out of my classroom for the last time. They may not realize it, but I’m thinking about their futures. I wonder where they will be next year, in four years, as adults? Will they remember what we learned this year?
It’s been just over an hour, and the first student approaches my desk, holding out her exam paper. When I look up, she smiles and places a shiny red apple on my desk. “Thanks for being my teacher,” she speaks softly so as not to disturb (打扰) the others.
My face cracks into a smile. Her gift is such a sweet action. I love apples and am inspired by the significance of the gift. It seems to add a sense of closure, to make the goodbye a little easier as she packs her book bag and takes that first step outside the classroom door.
Less than five minutes later the second student approaches my desk. As I check through his exam for completion, he brings his hand from behind his back and holds out an apple. “Thanks for a great year.” Smiling, I take the apple and place it beside the first. How lovely that two students have the same idea.
The third student soon comes forward —test paper in one hand and an apple in the other. “Thank you, Ms. Lewis.” He puts the apple beside the other two.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右:
2.请按如下格式在相应位置作答。
Then the fourth student comes, then the fifth, and just as before, they each bring an apple.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
I’m officially crying now as the last student walks out of the room.

【答案】14. B 15. D 16. B
【解析】
【导语】文章主要介绍AI正在改变天气预报。
【14题详解】
细节理解题。根据文章第三段“The result is dramatic: forecasts that once took hours can now be generated in seconds.(结果是显著的:曾经需要数小时的预报现在可以在几秒钟内生成。)”可知,AI天气模型相比传统模型的一个主要优势是生成预报所需的时间更短。
【15题详解】
细节理解题。根据文章第五段“These models struggle with rare or unprecedented (前所未有的) weather events that fall outside their training data.(这些模型难以应对超出其训练数据范围的罕见或前所未有的天气事件。)”可知,AI天气预报的局限性在于它很难处理罕见的天气事件。
【16题详解】
主旨大意题。文章第一段开篇点题“Artificial intelligence is changing how we predict the weather.(人工智能正在改变我们预测天气的方式.)”,随后几段详细对比了AI模型与传统模型的优缺点,并举例说明了AI的应用,最后一段再次总结“AI has forever changed how we predict the weather(AI已经永远改变了我们预测天气的方式)”。由此可知,B项“AI Is Changing Weather Forecasting(AI正在改变天气预报)”最能全面概括文章的核心内容,是最佳标题。
【答案】17. B 18. A 19. B 20. B
【解析】
【导语】文章主要介绍了研究发现合理使用数字技术可能降低老年人认知衰退风险,并探讨其背后机制与未来研究方向。
【17题详解】
推理判断题。根据第一段中“Digital dementia (痴呆) has become a common cognitive hypothesis (认知假说) in the 21st century — it has weakened our ability to remember phone numbers because we store them all in contact lists, filled our waking hours with passive screen time like mindlessly watching TV, and shifted our attention with endless information streams.(数字痴呆已成为21世纪常见的认知假说——它削弱了我们记忆电话号码的能力,因为我们将其存储在通讯录中;它用无意识地看电视等被动屏幕时间填充了我们的清醒时光;它用无尽的信息流转移了我们的注意力)”可知,作者通过定义新概念引出话题。
【18题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段中“Interestingly, the effect of technology use on brain function found in this study was similar to or stronger than other known protective factors, such as physical activity, or maintaining a healthy blood pressure.(有趣的是,这项研究发现的技术使用对大脑功能的影响,类似于或强于其他已知的保护因素,例如体育锻炼或维持健康血压)”可推知,技术使用的保护作用在效果上可能优于健康管理(如保持血压健康)。
【19题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段中“Similarly, greater engagement with technology may serve as a form of mental exercise. Adapting to software updates or learning to use a new smartphone keeps the brain active. Additionally, technology helps older people stay socially connected and independent for longer.(同样,更多地使用科技产品可以作为一种精神锻炼。适应软件更新或学习使用新智能手机可以让大脑保持活跃。此外,技术帮助老年人保持更长时间的社交联系和独立性)”可知,技术使用对老年人的益处取决于其带来的脑力刺激和社会联系,即精神和社会层面的刺激。
【20题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段的““The impact of AI on the aging brain will only become evident in future decades. However, our ability to adapt to historical technological innovations, and the potential for this to support cognitive function, suggest the future may not be all bad. For example, advances in brain-computer connections offer new hope for people with neurological (神经系统的) disease or disability. We need to carefully study how these technologies affect cognitive health over time,” says Nikki-Anne Wilson.(Nikki-Anne Wilson表示:“人工智能对老龄化大脑的影响,未来几十年才会显现。然而,我们适应历次技术创新的能力,以及技术助力认知功能的潜力,都预示着未来未必全然黯淡。譬如,脑机连接技术的进步,便为罹患神经系统疾病或身体残疾的人群带来了新的希望。我们需要审慎研究这些技术如何随时间推移影响认知健康。”)”可知,Nikki-Anne Wilson主要指出了当前研究的局限性,并提出了未来需要关注的研究方向。

A Role Model We Should Follow
As teenagers, we are easily influenced by those around us. A positive role model can inspire our dreams, shape our attitudes and guide our actions. Today, I strongly advocate that we learn from Yuan Longping — the “Father of Hybrid Rice”.
He devoted his life to agricultural research, overcoming countless challenges to feed millions. His perseverance, creativity and selflessness teach us that true success lies in contributing to society. Let’s follow his example: study diligently, dare to innovate, and care for others. 第三节(满分25分)
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】Then the fourth student comes, then the fifth, and just as before, they each bring an apple. The desk is quickly covered with a rainbow of apples, each one a token of gratitude. As I accept each apple, I can feel the warmth in my heart growing. These apples are not just fruits. They are symbols of the connection that I’ve built with my students over the year. Each apple tells a story of a lesson learned, a challenge overcome, and a bond formed. I’m overwhelmed by their thoughtfulness and the simple yet powerful way they’ve chosen to express their appreciation.
I’m officially crying now as the last student walks out of the room. Tears stream down my face, but they are tears of joy and pride. These students have not only learned from me but have also taught me valuable lessons about the impact a teacher can have. As I look at the apples on my desk, I’m reminded of why I chose this profession. Teaching is not just about imparting knowledge; it’s about touching lives and making a difference. I wipe away my tears, feeling a renewed sense of purpose and passion. I’ll cherish these apples and the memories they represent, knowing that I’ve made a positive impact on these young minds.
