Times change! The day I heard that the Bright Bookstore was closing, I was sad. The bookstore had been in the neighbourhood for 50 years, and it was a great place where people could know each other through their love of books.
When I met Old Tim, the store’s owner, he said it was difficult to run a traditional bookstore. Most young people read e-books and more people bought books online.
Childhood memories came back to me clearly. A group of us kids often went to the store, spending hours reading there or just talking with Tim. Tim encouraged us to share our ideas by writing them on a large board.
A few months later, I was back and was surprised to see that the Bright Bookstore was still open for business. It was still old, but inside it was like a different world. In an area, a book reading was going on. Nearby, some readers were sharing their ideas on a screen instead of the large board. Some were reading on computers. It even had a coffee shop selling nice food. Clearly, the Bright Bookstore was in good, creative hands.
Tim told me that there were more community events in the coffee shop such as book readings and even concerts and movie nights.
“Well, as you can see, technology and creativity have brought my old bookstore into the 21st century! I’m so glad to see that everything I wanted it to offer to the community is still here,” said Tim.
No matter how times change, there are always people who love reading. With the development of technology, traditional bookstores should also change in a creative way.
16.According to Old Tim, what was the main reason for the Bright Bookstore’s closing?
A.There were no community events in it.

B.Tim’s way to encourage kids to read books.
C.The changes of the bookstore.
D.The writer’s early memories of the bookstore.
18.What could book lovers do in the new Bright Bookstore?
①Read books. ②Share ideas on a board.
③Sell nice food. ④Listen to music. ⑤Enjoy movies.
A.②③④ B.①④⑤ C.②④⑤ D.②③⑤
19.What was Tim’s attitude (态度) towards technology at last?
A.He warmly welcomed it. B.He didn’t care about it.
C.He worried about it. D.He couldn’t stand it.
The National Museum of China has a new popular product: a fridge magnet (冰箱贴) made from the design of the phoenix crown (凤冠) of Empress Xiaoduan from the Ming Dynasty.
“The phoenix crown fridge magnet sold 1,700 pieces in just two hours,” said Liao Fei, who works at the museum. Fans waited in line as early as 6 a. m., even in the rain, to buy it. In three months, sales reached 80,000 magnets. All phoenix crown-themed products brought in over 10 million yuan ($1.4 million).
The design team was surprised. “At first, we made only a few to see if people liked them,” Liao said. The idea came after seeing many visitors share photos of the real phoenix crown on social media. This gave the team the idea to make new products.
The design team has seven members. They get ideas by visiting museum displays and checking social media to make sure the magnets are good quality, factories now make about 3,000 magnets a day. The museum also sells other phoenix crown products, like notebooks and keychains. Many of these are popular too. To stop people from buying too many to sell again, the museum set a daily buying rule.
“This shows how much people love cultural products,” Liao said. Many buyers like taking pictures of the magnets with the real phoenix crown, which is now the most visited display in the museum.
“We want our products to show Chinese beauty and fit into daily life,” Liao said. The products have even created new jobs, as factories hired more workers to meet demand.
20.Which of the following is mentioned in the article?

三、短文填空

Children are amazing! They pick up languages so easily. In fact, studies show that an adult can do 30 well as a child. So why do children still seem to learn languages more quickly than adults? 31 (general), it’s because of the way they learn.
Children can learn simply by doing what comes naturally: They listen, copy and communicate. They don’t do many grammar exercises, 32 use language to talk about things that attract them. Thus, this makes the learning process quite 33 (enjoy) for them. They don’t worry about a small vocabulary (词汇量) or wrong sentence. They just find ways 34 (express) what they think.
This learning way is also 35 (suit) for adults to improve their English speaking. Don’t worry about making mistakes. Try to talk with people in English 36 (active). If you can’t find a foreigner, talk with other English 37 (learn) instead.
Also, if you are slow in reading, don’t worry. One of the most helpful ways is reading a lot, either aloud or in your heart. Don’t stop to look 38 the new word if you can guess its meaning by 39 (understand) the sentences before or after it. Just be patient. After enough practice in reading, you can improve your reading speed.
四、任务型阅读
阅读下面短文,然后在文后思维导图内完成内容摘要,每空不超过三个词,并将答案写在答题卡的相应位置。
The Beginning of summer, called Lixia in Chinese, starts between May 5th and 7th. It is the first day of summer in traditional Chinese culture.
At Lixia, many changes happen in nature. During this time, the weather becomes warmer, and it also brings different weather. For example, southern places like Guangdong have heavy rains and hot days, while northern areas like Heilongjiang are still cool. The Chinese word for summer, xia, means “to grow big,” showing how plants and animals become strong. Frogs and insects make loud sounds in the fields. Earthworms come out of the ground to soften the soil, helping farmers grow crops. In northern China, a special plant called Wanggua starts to climb and bear fruit. Farmers say, “Look at the summer harvest at Lixia,” because crops like winter wheat are almost ready to be picked.
People celebrate Lixia with fun customs. Families boil eggs with tea leaves and give them to children to protect them from summer sickness. Another tradition is weighing people to wish them good health. Eating fresh foods like cherries, green plums, and new grains is also popular, as they taste sweet and fresh in early summer. To stay healthy, people follow simple rules: keep calm, eat light meals with vegetables, and rest for a short time at noon when days are longer.
Lixia is not just a season but a cultural treasure. It connects ancient farming life with modern times, teaching us to live in harmony (和谐) with nature. From poems to family traditions, Lixia reminds everyone to enjoy the energy and beauty of summer.

On June 6, 2025, a special “Tiangong Classroom” lesson was held online. Chinese astronauts on the Tiangong space station talked with students in Budapest, Hungary. It was the first international space lecture of its kind, livestreamed to hundreds of young people and scientists in Europe.
The lesson started with a tour of the space station. The astronauts showed how they live and work in the weightless environment. They also did two simple but amazing experiments. First, they poured water into a cup in space. Instead of staying at the bottom, the water formed a floating (漂浮的) ball. Then, they lit a small candle. The flame was round and blue, not the cone-shaped (锥形的) yellow flame we see on Earth. These small changes showed how gravity affects everyday things.
The students in Hungary were very excited. One student said, “I always thought science was boring, but today I saw how cool it can be. I hope to study space science in the future.” The activity was not just fun. It also helped build a bridge of friendship between young people in China and Hungary.
In the future, more international “Tiangong Classroom” activities will be held. They will help spread knowledge about China’s space missions and encourage young people around the world to learn more about science.
