There is a saying that "an elephant never forgets" and research has shown this is somewhat true. Elephants are very good at remembering which animals are friendly and which are dangerous. Older 1 use this skill to keep the rest of their group safe from dangers.
Squirrels also have quite good memories. In autumn, they bury lots of nuts in the ground to 2 them for winter. They depend on their memory and sense of smell to find the nuts and dig them back up to eat them.
What about the other animals? Do they have a good memory? Scientists have tested how 3 goats, sheep and alpacas could remember where food was hidden.
In one experiment, they placed food under two out of eight buckets in an area. The animals were then brought back later to see if they could 4 which buckets held the food. 7.句意:山羊的表现依旧十分出色。
根据后句"They easily remembered where the food was"可知,山羊能很容易记住食物的位置,说明它们做得很好,excelled"表现优异"符合语境,failed"失败"、slept"睡觉"和left"离开"不符合语境。

16 , memory is not like a video recording. It can be changed over time. Every time we 17 a memory, we might accidentally change a small detail. This is why eyewitness (目击者) accounts can sometimes be unreliable (不可靠的).
18 , understanding how memory works can help us improve it. Techniques like “spaced repetition” and “mind maps” are not just study tips; they are ways to work 19 our brain’s natural processes. 三、阅读理解(本大题共15小题,共30分)。
A
We all forget things. But scientists say sleep is like a save button for our brain. In a study, two groups of students tried to memorize 20 new words. Group A reviewed them at 9 p.m. and went to sleep. Group B reviewed at 9 p.m. but stayed awake playing games. The next morning, Group A remembered 15 words on average, while Group B only remembered 9.
Why? During sleep, especially deep sleep, the brain repeats the day’s information. It moves facts from short-term memory to long-term memory. That is why you can recall a poem better after a good night’s rest.
However, watching screens before bed harms this process. The blue light stops the brain from relaxing. Also, cramming all night never works as well as spaced study plus sleep.
Schools should teach students to respect sleep. A teenager needs about 8 hours. If you sleep well, your memory becomes sharper, and you feel happier in class.
1.What did Group A do after reviewing words?
A.Played games. B.Went to sleep. C.Watched TV. D.Ran outside.
2.The underlined word “sharper” in the last paragraph means ______.

Remember to eat fruits and vegetables. They might just improve your memory.
Scientists have found out several kinds of products—including vegetables which have green leaves, orange and red vegetables, berries and orange juice, are good for memory.
Researchers at Harvard University have found that men who insisted on eating those fruits and vegetables over a period of 20 years were more likely to have better memory skills than those who seldom ate them. The study followed about 27,800 men in health care jobs over 20 years, and surveyed them on their diets and other health-related topics every four years.
Toward the end of the study, the researchers started asking them questions about their memory. For example, “Do you have more trouble than usual remembering a short list of things, such as a shopping list?” or “Do you have more trouble than usual following a group conversation or a story in a TV program because of your memory?” “A growing number of ‘yes’ answers to such questions can mean their memory is going down,” the researchers said.
The participants (参与者) were divided into five groups, based on how many servings (分量) of vegetables and fruits they got each day, from six servings in the healthiest group to just two servings. The six-serving eaters were 34 percent less likely to be forgetful. And the results were even better if the men happened to eat carotenoid (类胡萝卜素)-rich vegetables, such as carrots and pumpkins. Besides, those who drank orange juice often were 47 percent less likely to become forgetful, compared with those who drank orange juice less than once a month.
“Our study provides further evidence that diet choices can be important to keep your brain healthy,” researchers said.
