How can you remember a song from your childhood to this day? Why does your teacher use songs to teach you English? It seems that there is a scientific reason for this.
Researchers are now studying the relationship between music and remembering a foreign language.
“Singing should be a new way of learning a foreign language. The brain (大脑) likes to remember things when they are used in a catchy and meaningful way. For example, kids can learn difficult words quickly when they are put in a song,” says Dr. Karen. The findings may help those who have trouble learning foreign languages. On his blog, Dr. Ludke writes, “A listen-and-repeat singing way can support foreign language learning and opens the door for future research in this area.”
Many language teachers know the importance of using music and singing. Hua Zhuying, a teacher at a Chinese language school in the USA, uses songs to teach Chinese. She says, “I use music all the time to teach children Chinese. For little kids we usually use music. Not only does it work, but it is fun for kids.”
“Sometimes I think if I learned English that way when I was young, maybe I could speak much better English than now,” Hua Zhuying adds.
Our brain likes music, especially for remembering. So if you are still having trouble learning a language, why not try singing it out?
41. According to the passage, a good way to remember a foreign language is to ________.
A. remember the words in a song. B. read more and write more.
C. copy the words many times. D. listen to the teacher carefully.
42. The underlined word “catchy” probably means “________. ”
A. 困难的 B. 无聊的 C. 放松的 D. 容易记住的
43. The passage mainly tells us that ________.
A. many researchers realize the importance of language learning.
B. many language teachers know the importance of famous music.
C. your brain remembers a language better if you sing it.
D. you will never learn a language well if you cannot sing.

Growing up, I always took notes in class by hand. I would copy everything from the blackboard or slide (幻灯片) while listening to the teacher. When I entered college, I noticed that many students were using laptops to take notes. Sometimes, I wondered: Should I change my note-taking habits? Could I get better grades if I typed my notes instead of writing them by hand?
A study at Princeton University looked at different note-taking skills. The researchers asked pairs of students to take notes during an online course. In each pair, one student used a computer, and the other used pen and paper. The researchers found that the students performed similarly on fact-based questions. However, some questions required that the students answer what they had learned in the lesson. On these questions, the “typing or copying everything” students scored much lower. Interestingly, this study also found that students who didn’t copy the notes word for word scored higher. And this finding made me improve my note-taking habits.
“With laptops or your pen and paper, you can write a lot of things down,” said Michi Matsukura, one of my professors. “The problem is, are you trying to understand what you’re writing?”
Now, “conceptual (概念化的) note-taking”—focus on big ideas, key terms, and interesting facts— simply makes more sense to us. We’ve found it more helpful in our studies than copying everything. It wasn’t easy to make this change, though. There was a fear of missing something when I first stopped writing down everything on the slide.
It takes time and effort to discover and master the art of note taking. You can write your notes by hand or type them. You can copy word for word or try “conceptual note taking”. In the end, they are your notes. Just do what works best for you.
44. Which is TRUE about typing or copying the notes word for word?
A. It’s helpful to answer some fact-based questions.
B. People always use some key terms when copying.
C. Big ideas are often used when people copy the notes.
D. It’s easy to answer what we have learned in the lesson.
45. What made the writer change his note-taking habits?
A. His professor’s advice. B. The finding of a study.
C. An online course. D. His classmate’s help.
46. What is the writer’s opinion in the last paragraph?
A. Conceptual note taking is more important.
B. Typing on laptops can help get better grades.
C. He especially supports copying everything down.
D. It’s better to choose a way that works best for you.
47. What is the right structure of the passage?
