Dongba (东巴) paper is a special kind of paper made by the Naxi people in Yunnan. It is an important part of their culture, known as Dongba culture, which has a history of over a thousand years.
The name “Dongba” comes from the Naxi priests (祭司). These priests were very wise and knew a lot about their culture. They used a special script (文字), called Dongba script, to write down their knowledge. This script is very special because it is the only pictographic (象形文字的) writing system still used in the world today. That’s why it is called a “living fossil (化石)”.
Dongba paper is used for writing the Dongba script. Although it is made by hand with simple tools, the paper is very strong. It doesn’t get eaten by insects easily and can last for a very long time without breaking down. This strong paper helps to pass the Naxi culture from generation to generation.
Today, people are still working to protect Dongba culture. For example, shows are held in different cities to let more people learn about this amazing tradition. At those shows, visitors can even try to write their names using the Dongba script on the special paper. It is a wonderful way to experience and understand the culture better.
21. Dongba paper is made by the Naxi people in Yunnan and is a key part of their culture.
22. The Dongba script is no longer used by anyone in the world today.
23. Dongba paper is so strong that it doesn’t get eaten by insects easily.
24. Visitors can use the Dongba script to write their names on the special paper.
25. This text is mainly written to encourage more people to make Dongba paper by hand.

The Fields Medal (菲尔兹奖) is a very important award in mathematics (数学). It is given every four years to mathematicians under 40 years old.
In 2026, Wang Hong made history. She and her university classmate Deng Yu both won the Fields Medal. Wang Hong was the first Chinese mathematician and the third woman to receive this honor.
Wang Hong was born in 1991 in Guilin, Guangxi. She was very interested in learning when she was young. At 16, she went to Peking University. She first studied earth science, but then she changed her major to mathematics. However, studying math was not easy for her. Many of her classmates were excellent, and she sometimes lost heart. She even studied architecture (建筑学) for half a year before she came back to math.
After university, she studied in France and the US. In 2019, she got her PhD from MIT. Her greatest achievement was solving a famous math problem called the 3-D Kakeya conjecture This problem was over 100 years old. Many mathematicians believed it was true, but no one could prove it. Wang Hong and her partner Joshua Zahl found a new way and finally proved it. Her work helps other scientists study difficult problems.
Wang Hong has a balanced life. She doesn’t think studying all the time is good. She said, “Rest when you are tired; study when you have energy.” She often does sports and takes breaks when she meets hard problems.
After Wang Hong won the medal, many people on the Internet felt excited and proud. They were happy to see Chinese mathematicians shine on the world stage.
