Tsai Chih-chung is well-known for his simple black and white comics about ancient Chinese wise men. In his book Confucius Speaks, he uses short lines and gentle pictures to tell stories of Confucius.
Confucius lived over 2,500 years ago in the Kingdom of Lu. When he was young, his family was poor. But he never stopped learning. Later, he became a great teacher and thinker. He believed that education was for everyone, rich or poor. He had about 3,000 students. Many of them learned to be kind and honest.
One of his famous ideas is “Ren”. It means love and care for other people. Confucius said we should respect our parents and be friendly to strangers. His words are collected in The Analects. Many students find it hard to understand the old text. But Tsai Chih-chung’s comic changes this. It turns those deep ideas into easy pictures and simple sentences.
The comic does not change the true meaning of Confucius’ thoughts. It just helps young readers get closer to this great ancient thinker. Even today, Confucius’ ideas still teach us how to be good people.

Smallpox (天花) used to be one of the worst global diseases. It killed millions of people in history. However, we do not hear much about it any more. Why? Because it is no longer around in nature. This happened mainly because of the work of Edward Jenner (1749—1823), an English doctor and scientist.
Jenner did not have an easy childhood. His parents died when he was young, and his elder brother raised him. It was difficult for him to do well in school, but he had a passion for nature. At 13, he became an apprentice to a doctor for eight years. It was hard for doctors to be well-respected at that time because modern medicine had not fully developed.
When Jenner was 21, he studied at a hospital in London. After he finished his studies, Jenner went back to his home in the countryside because he liked it more. There, he became a family doctor and people started to hear about his good work. In his free time, he continued to do research and study nature.
It was while working as a doctor that Jenner discovered that milkmaids—women who milk cows—rarely got smallpox. They often got cowpox, a disease like smallpox, but these milkmaids did not get very sick and they did not die. He wondered: Do milkmaids get protected from smallpox just because they often get cowpox?
To test this, Jenner came up with the idea of first giving some people cowpox, then giving them smallpox. These people did not get the smallpox! After many other tests, he realized that cowpox could actually be used to protect people from getting smallpox.
Jenner invented a new word to describe what he had created: “vaccine”. The word comes from the Latin word for “cow”. It is wonderful that, because of Jenner’s work, smallpox is not around anymore and people no longer die from it. His pioneering research has been used to create vaccines for other diseases.

Nanguan District lies in the south of central Changchun. It is one of the oldest districts in the city. Over more than 300 years, it has changed a lot and kept many special stories of Changchun.
Long ago, before Changchun became a big city, this area was a small village beside the Yitong River. People here made their living by farming and fishing. As time passed, more and more people moved here. Slowly, it grew into a busy market town. In the early 1900s, many shops opened along the streets. Old buildings, small restaurants and teahouses brought lots of people together.
Nanguan is not only rich in history, but also keeps moving forward these years. New roads and public parks have appeared. The government tries hard to protect old houses while building new places. That means people can enjoy both the old culture and modern life.
Many local people say Nanguan has its own special beauty. If you walk along some old streets, you will still feel the strong taste of old Changchun. At the same time, great changes have taken place here. More public libraries and sports centres are built for people of all ages.
Visitors who come to Nanguan will find that history is not something far away in books. It lives in streets, buildings and the daily life of local people. We can learn much about our city’s past if we take time to watch and listen carefully.

Cathy knew that she had an essay due on Monday. However, instead of beginning work on it today, she waited until the last minute and started on Sunday night. Of course, it was impossible to do a good job writing an essay in one night, so she got a bad grade. She then kicked herself for not starting earlier and promised to do better next time, but she didn’t.
Does Cathy’s story sound familiar? Like Cathy, many of us procrastinate—we put off doing something important until the last moment. But why do we do this? Some research shows that we procrastinate because of negative feelings, such as fear or worry. We are afraid of doing a poor job or getting bad grades. We think that we might fail. We put off doing the work in order to avoid having these bad feelings. Sadly, we are more likely to fail or do poorly when we procrastinate. This creates even more negative feelings and makes it more likely that we will procrastinate the next time.
The long-term solution to this problem is to deal with our negative feelings. We need to forgive ourselves for failing. We need to accept that sometimes we will not meet the goal. We also need to realize that difficult work isn’t always a bad thing. It is through difficulty that we learn and grow.
So what can we do? Here are some tips. First, realize that once we face our fears and get started, our fears often go away, and we start to enjoy the work. Second, break large projects into small parts, each with their own smaller deadline. Take each thing step by step. Third, reward yourself for getting a step done. Relax or do something fun, then get back to work. Finally, remove temptation. This means if you watch TV to put off work, then work at the library. If you chat with friends to put off work, then work alone and turn off your phone. Find a place to work that does not have such distractions.
In the end, it is up to you and the actions you take to overcome procrastination. So what are you waiting for?

主语it是单数,change的过去分词为changed,因此填has changed。
a few years ago表示过去,used to do sth意为“过去常常做某事”,因此填used to。is used to“习惯于”后接动名词,was used to“被用来”为被动语态,got used to“变得习惯于”后接动名词,均不符合。
dare not后接动词原形,have conversations是固定搭配,意为“进行交谈”,因此填have。take“拿”、do“做”、get“得到”均不能与conversations构成“交谈”的含义。
way to do sth意为“做某事的方法”,需用动词不定式作后置定语,因此填to memorize。
with“和”、for“为了”、on“在……上”均不能表示“通过……方式”。
【22题详解】
句意:当遇到问题时,他也学会了如何寻求帮助。
learn后接“疑问词+不定式”结构。当他遇到问题,他学会了“如何”寻求帮助,因此填how。what“什么”、that“那个”、if“是否”均不符合语境。
