I totally agree that scientists have qualities that are worth learning. Among them, perseverance is what I admire most. I’ve tried to apply it to my own life. Last month, I spent weeks solving a complex math problem that seemed impossible. There were moments when I wanted to quit, but I reminded myself of the scientists’ stories. It was this very perseverance that finally led me to find the correct answer, which brought me enormous satisfaction. I truly believe such qualities can shape our character. I’m curious about which quality encourages you most. Looking forward to hearing your story. Yours. What mattered most was (主语从句) that he was safe. I hugged him tightly, realizing I must be a responsible owner. (78词) 听力原文: Text 1 M: Did you watch the newly released cartoon film yesterday? W: No. I was going to see it with my friends, but an unexpected guest came over. So I ended up staying at home. Text 2 M: Look! Thick, dark clouds are gathering in the sky. You’d better take an umbrella with you when you go out. W: But I don’t think it’s going to rain. The weather forecast says it will be fine in the afternoon. Text 3 M: Hi, Linda. I called you several times just now but didn’t get an answer. Was there something wrong with your phone? W: Oh, sorry. It couldn’t start because the battery was flat. M: I see. That makes sense. Text 4 W: I bought a dress from your store three days ago. But it’s a bit tight for me. Can I exchange it for a larger size? M: Sure. But you need to deliver the original dress to us within seven days. And the return shipping is on us. W: That’s great. Thanks. Text 5 M: Are you going to find a part-time job this summer holiday? W: I’m not sure. Maybe I will travel to London to visit my sister. She studies there. What about you? M: I plan to learn to swim from my father. W: Sounds great! Text 6 W: What do you think of this apartment, Eric? M: Well, it’s large and has a modern design. But I need to know about the public transport nearby. This matters a lot to me. W: Don’t worry. It is close to the subway station and bus stop. M: That’s great! What about the rent? W: It’s $300 per month. But if you rent it for at least one year, you can receive a 10% discount. If you hire it for six months, you can get a 5% discount. M: OK. That’s a deal. I will live here for one year. Text 7 W: Hi, John. What are you doing here? I thought you’d go home after school. M: I’m a member of a voluntary organization named Helping Hands. We’re planting trees in the park. W: That sounds amazing. I saw a poster advertising your organization near my community yesterday. I’m also interested in doing voluntary work. How can I join you? M: Well, you can send your application to our official website by email. You’ll receive a reply within three days. W: Got it. Where do you often do voluntary work? M: I often assist at local food banks, museums and cultural centers. Next Saturday, we will go to a local animal shelter. W: It’s a pity I can’t join you then. I will visit my grandparents in the countryside. M: Never mind. We hold activities every Wednesday and Saturday. You can join at your convenience. Text 8 M: Mrs Brown, may I come in? W: Sure, Peter. M: I’m sorry to bother you during the class break, but I had a quarrel with Frank yesterday. I’m in low spirits now. W: What’s the matter? I remember you two are close friends. M: Yeah. Both of us have a passion for basketball. But Frank didn’t perform well in an important match. I got angry and blamed him for losing the game. He argued that he didn’t mean to do that. W: Well, I understand your ambition to win the match. But you should have a good chat with Frank. There must be a reason for his poor performance in the match. Maybe he was sick then. M: You’re right. I shouldn’t have talked to him so rudely. Will Frank forgive me? W: Just do it. Don’t stress the result. M: Thanks for your advice. I will do that after school. Text 9 M: Sarah, you look rather pale. Is everything fine with you? W: Not really. To be honest, I have been staying up late recently. I became increasingly anxious when thinking of my demanding work. M: I’m sorry to hear that. Have you seen the doctor? W: Not yet. My team is short-handed; I don’t want to let anyone down. M: I understand. But you’re pushing yourself so hard. After all, your health comes first. W: I totally agree. I have decided to talk with my manager to seek help. She knows well how to manage her time and energy wisely. M: Good idea. By the way, why not go hiking in the mountains together this weekend? W: Sounds great. Do you mind me taking my cousin? She is an experienced climber. M: Of course not. But where shall we meet that day? W: What about gathering at the subway station near our company at 10:00 am? By the way, let’s finish our meals quickly. There is a meeting thirty minutes later. M: OK. Let’s hurry up and get back to the office. Text 10 W: Hello, everyone. It’s my honor to share my personal experience with you in the class. Growing up in a small village, I’ve always been surrounded by fruit farms. Local villagers grow fruits like apples, peaches, and pears, but they struggle to sell them at good prices. During a summer break from university, I noticed that most farmers relied heavily on selling at local markets or by the roadside, leading to low sales and waste of farm produce. Seeing that, I felt a strong desire to do something to help. After careful consideration, I decided to try livestreaming. At first, I was nervous because I had no relevant experience. During the livestreams, I introduced the fruits, shared stories about the farmers, and even showed how the fruits were grown and harvested on the farmland. To my surprise, the response was amazing. Many people gave positive comments, and orders started pouring in. Within weeks, we sold more fruits than ever before, and the villagers were thrilled. This experience taught me that with creativity and effort, we can make a real difference. I’m proud that I’ve done something for the local people, and I hope to continue finding new ways to support my community after graduation. 1. B Thomas Hardy was born at Higher Bockhampton, Dorset, on June 2, 1840, where his father worked as a builder. From his father he gained an appreciation of music, and from his mother an appetite for learning and the delights of the countryside about his rural home. Due to his poor health, Hardy did not start school until he was eight. At 16, Hardy helped his father with architectural drawings and then started to work for architects. Later he moved to London and began writing poems, but his works were rejected by publishers. In 1870, he was sent to work in Cornwall. There he met his future wife Emma Gifford, who encouraged him in his writing. Hardy published his first novel Desperate Remedies in 1871, to universal disinterest. But the following year Under the Greenwood Tree brought Hardy popular praise for the first time. As with most of his fictional works, this novel incorporated real places around Dorset into the plot, including the village school that Hardy attended. After Under the Greenwood Tree came a serialized novel A Pair of Blue Eves. Once more Hardy drew upon real life, and the novel mirrors his romance with Emma Hardy followed this with Far From the Madding Crowd, set in Puddletown, near his birthplace. This novel finally netted Hardy the success that enabled him to give up his architectural practice and concentrate only on writing. The Hardys lived in London for a short time, then in Yeovil, then in Sturminster Newton, which Hardy described as “idyllic (田园诗般的)”. It was at Sturminster Newton that he penned Return of the Native, one of his most enduring (持久的) works. In 1887, Hardy published The Woodlander, a story concerning an honest woodsman in a small village. Then in 1891 one of his best works, Tess of the d’Urbervilles, came out, which was set primarily in the English countryside during the 19th century. Tess excited interest, but his next work, Jude the Obscure (1896), threw Hardy into a storm of controversy (争议), which made him turn away from fiction and focused on poetry for the rest of his life. 24. What do we know about Hardy? A. He was into drawing as a young man. B. He got fame at first attempt of writing. C. His writing career started with poems. D. His wife Emma shared his interest. 25. What does the underlined word “incorporated” in paragraph 3 mean? A. combined. B. changed. C. developed. D. forced. 26. After which novel was Hardy fully devoted to writing? A. A Pair of Blue Eyes. B. Far From the Madding Crowd. C. Tess of the d’Urbervilles. D. Jude the Obscure. 27. What is the common element in most of Hardy’s novels? A. Campus life. B. Life in London. C. Marriage life. D. Life in the countryside. C Can you imagine there being a community where boys and girls growing up together can finally speak different languages? In Ubang Nigeria, it really happens. It’s not exactly clear what percentage of the words in the men’s and women’s languages are different, but there are enough examples to make sentences sound different when spoken by the opposite sex. For “clothing”, men use the word “nki”, while women say “ariga”; “kitchi” means tree for men, while women say “okweng”. These are not just some slight pronunciation differences, but totally different words. “It’s almost like two different lexicons (词汇集),” a language expert, Chi Chi Undle said. “There are a lot of words that men and women share in common, but there are others which are totally different depending on your sex. They don’t sound alike, and don’t have the same letters. They are completely different words.” Interestingly, both men and women are able to understand each other perfectly in Ubang, as both boys and girls grow up around their parents and get to learn both languages, but by the age of 10, boys are expected to speak in the male tongue. It seems that there is a stage the male will reach and he discovers he is not using the rightful language. When he starts speaking the men’s language, you know the maturity is coming into him. No one really knows how or why the double-language tradition of Ubang began. Chi Chi Undie believes the two languages are the result of a “double-sex culture” where men and women operate in two separate spheres (范围) and live in separate worlds that rarely come together. However, she admits this is a weak theory, as the double-sex culture is present in many parts of Africa, where there are no different languages for men and women. Today, with English words constantly entering the lexicon of young Nigerians, Ubang’s two languages are in danger of being lost forever. Worse still, neither the male nor female language is written down, so they both rely on young people passing them down to the next generation. 28. What do we know about languages in Ubang? A. Word differences account for a high percentage. B. Men and women speak totally different languages. C. Word differences partly exist between the opposite sex. D. Men and women pronounce differently on the same word. 29. Why can men and women understand each other easily in Ubang? A. Their lexicons sound alike. B. They learn both languages at school. C. The men can speak two different languages. D. They are exposed to both languages in their childhood. 30. What does Chi Chi Undie want to explore in Paragraph 3? A. The change of double-sex culture. B. The theory of double-sex culture. C. The origin of double-language tradition. D. The sphere of double-language tradition. 31 How does the author feel about the disappearing languages in Ubang? A. Frightened. B. Concerned. C. Confused. D. Stressed. D If electric bikes haven’t caught your attention yet, here’s one that might. Okapi, a Boston-based start-up, is producing a unique e-bike that bridges the gap between motorcycles and ordinary bikes. These aren’t normal bikes. If the futuristic appearance doesn’t give them away, the specs (规格) will: Okapi’s bikes have an all-electric range of up to 40 miles and a top speed of around 30 mph. Those aren’t crazy numbers, but they are more than adequate for an ordinary bike. The company’s selling its bikes for just under $3,000. That’s in line with other e-bikes’ pricing, but Okapi’s bikes look more appealing than the others, which try (with varying degrees of success) to look like normal bicycles. The bikes’ full suspension, hidden storage, and 1,000-watt motor all add up to a fun ride. Okapi’s design appears to be stronger and more able to handle the bumps (碰撞) than many other electric bikes, some of which appear to be modeled after old models. The main disadvantage of Okapi’s design is that it supports a maximum of 280 pounds, which may stop some riders enjoying the bike. Okapi’s approach to the e-bike is a little different from others’. While more than one company tries to hide their electric powertrain (动力系统) underneath slim bodywork, Okapi puts it all out for the world to see in a big, square battery pack. There’s almost a futuristic dirt bike look to the bike, which is less awkward than it sounds. Electric bikes are getting cheaper, almost every day, but Okapi’s product charges a high price: The Starter Edition bike costs $2,989.98. The good news is that Okapi’s bike looks better and stronger than many offerings on the market today. Though they’re not the most mainstream product out there, e-bikes are worth the coin at almost any price. If you’re considering buying an electric bike, do it. E-bikes absolutely offer you an enjoyable and exciting experience, even on the cheaper end. 32. What do we know about Okapi’s new bike? A. Its look is normal. B. Its speed is steady. C. It has a lower price. D. It has a limited load. 33. What does the underlined word “it” in paragraph 4 refer to? A. The battery pack. B. Slim bodywork. C. The electric powertrain. D. Okapi’s approach. 34. What is the author’s attitude toward e-bikes? A. Objective. B. Unclear. C. Conservative. D. Supportive. 35. Which of the following could be the best title for the text? A. E-bikes: Cooler than You Think B. E-bikes: a Future Leader of Bikes C. E-bikes: a Better Replacement for Cars D. E-bikes: a Mainstream Way of Transportation 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Stress can significantly affect your ability to keep a healthy weight. 36 . Instead, I just opened the door and let the dog out by himself. I kept an eye on him to make sure he would come back inside. However, another neighborhood dog quickly ran past our house, and our dog sped after to catch him. I hurriedly went to grab my coat so I could follow my dog, and then I rushed outside. Unfortunately, I was already too late, and my dog was nowhere in sight. I walked a few blocks, but I was unable to find him. Depressed, I returned home. My mother was standing at the door waiting, and she asked me what had happened. “I know I was supposed to walk our dog,” I admitted, “but I thought he would be able to go outside and come back by himself.
