At first, Li Tao joined the course just because his mother asked him to. He thought it would be boring. But when he saw the beautiful kites with different Chinese patterns, he became interested immediately. The teacher told him that kite-making is a traditional Chinese art with a history of over 2,000 years.
During the course, Li Tao learned to cut bamboo, paste paper and draw pictures on kites. It was not easy work. He had to be very careful with every detail. Once he spent three days making a dragon kite, but it broke when he tried to fly it. He felt sad and wanted to give up. However, his teacher encouraged him to keep trying. After several more attempts, he finally made a perfect kite.
Three months later, Li Tao won first prize in a city-level kite-making competition. He felt so proud of himself. Now he spends most of his free time making kites. He also gives speeches at primary schools to introduce this traditional art to more children.

My dad noticed my fear. “It’s okay to fall,” he said. “Everyone falls when they learn. The key is to get back up and try again.” He promised to stay by my side and hold the bike all the time.
With my dad’s help, I started to practise. But after three days, I still couldn’t ride on my own. I felt so frustrated that I wanted to give up. My dad said, “Don’t stop now. You are getting better every day.”
I decided to try one more time. That afternoon, I got on the bike. My dad held the back of the bike and ran with me. After a few minutes, I realized he wasn’t holding on anymore. I was riding by myself! I was so excited that I almost fell off again.

Have you ever thought about what’s more important, looking fashionable or feeling comfortable? Many people choose style over comfort and some even go to extremes (极端) to follow fashion. But we should remember: being fashionable isn’t everything. It’s more important to be healthy.
Some people believe that they need to be a certain size to look good. So, they start extreme diets. They might not eat meals or eat too little, which can make them feel sick. Is it a healthy way to live?
Also, many girls wear shoes with very high heels to make them look taller. But these shoes can actually hurt their feet and make it hard to walk comfortably. Some even wear tight clothes that influence blood circulation, making it hard to breathe. Should we put fashion over comfort and physical health?
Besides, some boys and girls spend a lot of time and money changing their hair color. The material they use is usually harmful to their health. To make their hair straight or curly, they also use tools that are hot enough to burn their hair. But using these tools too often can make the hair dry or even burnt. Is it really worth it to risk our health, spending so much time and money?
So, let’s rethink what’s really important. Is it fashion or is it our well-being? Clothes or hairstyles don’t tell us anything about a person’s character. Instead of spending a lot of time choosing clothes, we could use that time to do fun things with friends. And instead of following extreme diets, let’s eat properly and exercise regularly. Remember, your worth is not decided by your appearance, but by who you are as a person.
36.Why do some people go on extreme diets according to the text?
A.Because the diets are healthy. B.Because they want to save time.
C.Because they want to save money. D.Because they just want to look pretty.
37.What is the writer’s purpose of using a question in each paragraph?
A.To ask for help from readers. B.To describe the latest fashion.
C.To tell how to spend time and money. D.To lead readers to think about the topic.
38.What does the underlined word “well-being” in Paragraph 5 mean?
A.Growth. B.Health. C.Warmth. D.Wealth.
39.What is the structure of the passage? (P=Paragraph)
A. B. C. D.
40.What can we learn from the text?
A.You are what you eat. B.Laughter is the best medicine.
C.Don’t judge a book by its cover. D.Actions speak louder than words.
【答案】36.D 37.D 38.B 39.C 40.C

When I was 10 years old, I saw my friends riding bikes around the neighborhood freely. I wanted to be like them, but I was afraid of falling down. Every time I got on the bike, my hands would shake and I would get off right away.
