Last spring our class spent our vacation in a small village in Yunnan. It was not a camp in the forest but a real home. Ms Yang checked our passports and tickets at the station before we set off, and during the trip she told us stories about the village. The (21)______ took six hours, but nobody felt bored. The countryside was quiet, and outside the window the landscape changed every ten minutes: green terraces, an ancient tower on a hill, and a rainbow over the valley. At the top of the hill Ms Yang, our guide, said, "Take a deep (22)______. You are 2,400 metres above the sea." Then we walked down to Grandpa Li's guest house. The scenery was fantastic, and it was a relaxing week for all of us.
"Ah, you are here!" Grandpa Li called from the gate. He was seventy, but he was still (23)______: he got up at five, cooked breakfast for nine people and then walked up the hill to pick tea. He was a little (24)______, though. Once he put salt in the soup twice, and then looked for his glasses when they were on his head. Each room was like a small apartment, with a bed, a desk and a window to the hills. His beds were comfortable and the rooms were warm, so we slept well even on cold nights. He probably knew every plant on the hill.
The second morning we helped him (25)______ the rubbish into four boxes: paper, plastic, glass and "the rest". It was hard work, and (26)______ nobody complained. "A clean village brings visitors back," he said. "A dirty river keeps people away." His words made me think of my own community in the city, where nobody seemed to care about the river behind the market.
After lunch he (27)______ us to visit the wetland at the foot of the hill. "Do not touch the lotus leaves," he said. "They are the (28)______ of this village." At noon we rested under an old ginkgo tree. Along the path we saw a deer drinking, a butterfly on a yellow rose, and a long line of ants crossing the stones. In the evening the village had a get-together in the square. Two girls (29)______ a dance, and a man played the accordion. A (30)______ girl from our class was asked to sing. Her face turned red, but she stood up and sang a song about the Sea of Clouds. Everyone clapped. "That was brave," Grandpa Li said. I turned around and saw tears in Ms Yang's eyes.
The next day it rained, so no one could go anywhere. We stayed in the living room and made a (31)______ about protecting the wetland. On it we drew the wetland, a deer and a honeycomb. "The (32)______ is A Home Away from Home," said Ms Yang. Grandpa Li hung it on the wall beside a photo of the Moscow Metro, a Russian doll and pictures of places he had never seen: Red Square, the Victory Museum, Alexander Garden and the Guest-Greeting Pine.

Our school has a small green corner behind the library. Last term we turned a piece of waste land into a garden, and now it is a home to frogs, snails and (36)______ (butterfly). We borrowed tools from the community centre and took notes in a small notebook every day. We wanted somewhere quiet to read, so we put a wooden bench under the bamboo.
At first the work was not easy. We had to water the young plants (37)______ (regular), even on windy days, and we were (38)______ (surprise) to see how quickly some of them died. Then Ms Chen, our biology teacher, showed us how to mix soil with dead leaves, and she helped us solve a serious problem: the soil was too dry in spring. The corner is now as (39)______ (colourful) as the old playground, and in May it is one of the (40)______ (good) places in our school for reading.
The garden is also (41)______ ecosystem in a small box. (42)______ water and sunlight, nothing can grow, so we made a simple watering plan. In order (43)______ (protect) the frogs, we stopped putting anything on the leaves. Each week we compare the new leaves and add the numbers to a chart. Sit quietly by the pond in the evening, and a frog might (44)______ (appear) on a lotus leaf.
Seventy percent of the land here (45)______ (be) now green with plants. (46)______ the soil was poor at the beginning, the bamboo and the moss grow well now. The (49)______ (student) garden is now a small classroom: we watch bees carry pollen and learn why pollination matters. Several parents came to visit last week. 五、阅读理解(共2篇,15小题,每小题1分,满分15分)
阅读下列短文,从每小题所给的 A、B、C、D 四个选项中选出一个最佳选项。
A
Our planet is home to more than eight million kinds of living things. Some of them are tiny, some are huge, and some are simply strange. Here are four pages from a nature magazine for young readers.
The redwood
Redwoods grow along the west coast of the United States. The tallest redwood is 115 metres tall, and some of them are more than 2,000 years old. Thousands of visitors come to see them every year. A full-grown tree can weigh as much as 500 tons. A redwood does not need deep soil: its roots stay near the top of the ground, and moss grows around them. The tree takes in water from the fog over the ocean. On a foggy morning the whole forest takes your breath away. For this reason, a warmer climate is a real problem for it.
The cheetah
The African cheetah lives on the open land. It weighs about 60 kg, and it can run at 110 km an hour, but only for about twenty seconds. Its body is thin and its legs are long. The cheetah hunts in the morning or in the late afternoon, when the land is not too hot. A mother cheetah teaches her young to hunt, and the young stay with her for about eighteen months.
The lotus
The lotus is popular in China. It grows in the mud at the bottom of a pond. Its leaves are smooth, so water runs off them and dust cannot stay. The plant looks weak, but it is actually very strong. For the whole pond the lotus is a tool: fish hide under its leaves, frogs rest on them, and bees come for its pollen. Without the lotus, the pond is a poorer place.
Billy's page
Billy is twelve. He lives in a province in the south of China. Every morning he takes a walk in the bamboo forest near his home with a folding fan in his hand. "Yeah, it is hot here," he says, "but the bamboo keeps us cool." Last year he found a mushroom as big as a plate and a bamboo shoot. It grew 90 cm in a week. "Goodness! I could not believe my eyes," he says. He stores his photos in a wooden box, and he is never disappointed when a plant dies. "It is a lesson, not a loss. A bad season must not disappoint you." In order to share his happiness, he started a small club. "Feel free to join us," he says. "We grow peas, roses and peonies, and we take photos of every new leaf." His friend Vincent, an exchange student from Russia, sends him photos of forests in Scotland.
From the Arctic Ocean to the hot land of Africa, life finds a way. Every plant and animal is connected with the others, and each one plays a part. When we protect one of them, we protect the others. That is the importance of the ecosystem, and it is a lesson for every human on this planet.

53 How long can a cheetah keep running at 110 km an hour?
A. For about twenty seconds. B. For about eighteen months.
C. For two hours. D. For a whole morning.
54 Why does the writer call the lotus 'a tool' for the pond?
A. Because people use it to make paper.
B. Because it grows very fast in the mud.
C. Because it is popular with visitors.
D. Because it gives food and shelter to other living things.
55 What does 'the pond is a poorer place' mean?
A. The pond has less money. B. The pond has fewer living things.

B
Diana came to our class in September as an exchange student from Vancouver. On her first morning she stood at the front, said hello to everyone in a loud, clear voice, and told a joke about the rain in her city. The whole class laughed. I sat in the back and said nothing. Thirty pairs of eyes were too many for me, and my English was not good enough.
Mrs Lin made Diana my deskmate. For a week we hardly talked. We seemed to have nothing in common. She played the flute and performed on the school stage. I could not even sing. She liked team sports. I liked novels and the quiet corner of the library. Our appearances were different too: she was slim and tall, and her personality was as bright as the red scarf around her neck. Her answers were always straightforward, and she never hid her opinion.
Then one afternoon I made a mistake. I took her notebook by accident and found a page of drawings: a prince, a pauper, a wooden horse and an old palace. Under them she wrote, "I miss home." I looked up, and she was watching me. "You draw like Mark Twain writes," I said. Then I felt stupid. But she smiled and nodded. "That is the nicest thing anyone has said to me this month," she said. Mark Twain, the American writer, was her favourite; she could describe every character in his books.
That was the beginning. We found we had a lot in common. We both got up at six to read. We both hated the flu season. She was direct and honest, and she told me when my pronunciation was wrong. I told her when her paper-cut was a mess, and she told me to be careful with the glue. Her sense of humour made the long afternoons short. When I was alone in the classroom after a bad test, she did not give me a speech. She just lent me a hand: she sorted my notes into three piles and said, "Now we start again." She also taught me to take notes in a simple way, and my marks went up. I was too lazy to practise speaking before, but she made me read aloud every morning. When I was afraid, she reached for my hand and held it. She cared about my small problems, and I began to call our friendship a gift. Her jokes brought joy to the whole class, and I asked myself why I had been so afraid of a few English words.
Last month our class had a forum on the school website: Same or Different? Julie wrote, "My best friend and I are alike in appearance but different in character." Stephen said, "The only similarity between my brother and me is our interest in novels." Rose wrote about her exchange year in Seattle: "My host family and I had little in common at first. Besides the language, our spare time was different too. But talking about our differences gave me great pleasure, and we are close friends now." Her opinion was simple: every difference hides a silver lining. Matt wrote, "My brother Edward is hard-working, but I am a little lazy. That is why we argue about the washing-up." Perhaps for that reason, so many of us answered the forum that week.
One day Mrs Lin put two charts on the board. The population of Vancouver is about 0.7 million, and the population of our city is much larger. The average rainfall in Vancouver is 1,475 mm per year, and ours is 1,923 mm per year. "So we are not so different," Diana said. "Both cities are wet!" Numbers can tell a story, but they cannot tell you everything. Her smile, her humour and her strength of character told me much more.
In December Diana attended the city speech competition and won a prize. We shouted "Congratulations!" and the whole school heard us. In her speech she said, "People say a friend is a mirror. I do not think so. A friend is a window. You see a different world through it, and your own room becomes bigger."
Now Diana is back in Vancouver, but we still text each other almost every day. Wherever we are, no matter how busy we get, we share one small thing with each other each night. Different is not a problem. It is a gift.
58 Why did the whole class laugh on Diana's first morning?
A. She fell down in front of the class. B. She sang a song about the rain.
C. She told a joke. D. She spoke Chinese to everyone.
59 Why did the writer keep quiet that morning?
A. She was too shy to speak English in front of many people.
B. She did not like the new student.
C. She was ill that day.
D. She arrived late for class.
60 What did the writer find in Diana's notebook?
A. A letter from Vancouver. B. A list of new words.
C. A speech about friends. D. A page of drawings.
61 How did the writer feel right after she said 'You draw like Mark Twain writes'?
A. A little stupid. B. Very proud. C. Quite angry. D. Rather bored.
62 What did Diana do when the writer was unhappy after a test?
A. She gave her a long speech.
B. She sorted her notes and helped her start again.
C. She told a joke about the rain.
D. She lent her a novel to read.
63 What does Diana mean by 'A friend is a window'?
A. A friend is like glass.
B. A friend watches you all the time.
C. A friend helps you see a different world and understand your own better.
D. A friend is easy to open and close.
64 Which word best describes Diana?
A. Lazy. B. Serious. C. Careless. D. Honest and warm.
65 What is the passage mainly about?
A. How to win a speech competition. B. A friendship that grew out of differences.
C. How to draw like Mark Twain. D. A girl's life in Vancouver.

七、阅读表达(共2小题,满分10分)
阅读下面短文,根据短文内容回答问题。第71题答案不超过10个词;第72题为开放性观点题,请结合实际简要作答。
Can plants talk? Not with words, but they do send messages. When an insect bites a leaf, the plant may send a chemical into the air. Other plants take in the message and start to protect themselves. Thanks to this system, a plant can get ready long before the insects arrive. Scientists found this in tomato plants and in some trees.
Bees are the world's most important messengers. As a bee moves from flower to flower for honey, pollen stays on its wings and legs, and this is how pollination happens. They even communicate with each other by dancing. In fact, bees play a role in the food chain, and there is a close connection between a bee and an apple on your table. One small bee can visit up to five hundred flowers in an hour. Imagine that! Inside their home, they build a honeycomb of small rooms. About one third of the food on our plates comes from plants. These plants need pollination. No bees means no apples, no peonies in the garden and no honey on the table.
Sadly, the number of bees is dropping in many countries, and scientists are worried about the situation. Except for a few warm nights, most bees stay in their home all winter, so we expect the number to fall again this year. Cities take more land, and some chemicals kill insects. But small actions help. A pot of flowers on a balcony, a corner of the school garden left wild, or a few bamboo plants by the wall can give bees a home. Last year students in our province built 4,000 bee hotels from old wood and dry grass. In one year the number of bees in the town rose by 15 percent.
So the next time you see a bee, do not run away. It is doing the most important job in the world.

72 示例一:Yes, I do. Bees do the most important job for us, and a small bee hotel costs almost nothing. Our class can build one with old wood, and we can watch the bees at noon. 示例二:No, I don't. Some students are afraid of bees, and a bee hotel may bring them to the classroom windows. We should build it far from the school gate instead.

八、书面表达(15分)
73 参考范文:
Last summer I spent a week at my aunt's home in a small town by the sea. The flat was small, and my cousin Lin and I shared a room. Every morning we went to the market for fresh fish, and every evening we sat on the balcony and talked about our day. I felt at home there, though the town was far from my city.
My cousin Lin is very outgoing. He makes friends in a minute, and I am rather shy. At first we had little to say to each other. Then we found a shared love: novels. He tells me his stories, and I help him with his English. Different does not mean difficult.
For me, a home is not a big flat or a warm bed. It is people's care and the food on the table.
评分说明:
