Currently, the women’s record stands at 99 days and the men’s record at 52 days. The women’s record goes to the island of Oahu and the men’s record goes to the Big Island. Ditton intends to beat the record for fastest solo row for any human, man or woman. Ditton is a licensed captain and professional adventurer. The London-born 40-year-old has been training from her base in San Francisco and has spent the final few weeks before setting off wiring her own boat, ensuring all the necessary equipment was on-board, and packing enough food for 75 days while keeping her boat as light as possible. For the past several years, Ditton has been preparing herself and her boat, ready to take on the challenge of rowing 5,500 miles from Japan to San Francisco in spring, bidding to succeed where 19 other attempts have failed. She has completed several long training rows off the west coast of America, and most recently, a successful 728-mile, 24-day training row from Ilwaco, Washington to San Francisco in September 2019. But this week just after Lia’s start, a tragedy occurred. Fellow distance rower, Angela Madsen lost her life during some routine in-water training. The waters that lie ahead aren’t for the faint of heart. The journey will require Ditton to sail for the Continental Shelf before facing the possibility of ship encounters, extreme weather, and currents, and the travelling through the Shark Café, an area where great white sharks frequent. “The Continental Shelf is always rough, but I love the challenge. I’ll also row right through Shark Café,” says Ditton. “It’s certainly not over, until it is over. But I’m ready for everything ahead.” 4. What is Lia Ditton’s goal for the crossing? A. To get the best annual award. B. To be the fastest solo rower. C. To row for the longest days. D. To reach the farthest island. 5. What is Paragraph 2 mainly about? A. How Ditton is trained every day. B. What Ditton claimed in the past. C. Ditton’s readiness for the crossing. D. Ditton’s past experiences of rowing. 6. What can be known from Paragraph 3? A. The journey ahead of Ditton is difficult. B. Ditton is worried about her future path. C. Some other ships will keep her company. D. A sea disaster is there waiting for Ditton. 7. Which of the following can best describe Ditton? A. Fearless yet knowledgeable. B. Strong-willed and positive. C. Well-trained and intelligent. D. Self-confident but cautious. B 5. C 6. A 7. 根据第一段中“Ditton intends to beat the record for fastest solo row for any human, man or woman.(Ditton想要打破人类(无论男性还是女性)在这一单人划船项目中的最快纪录。)” 根据第二段中“The London-born 40-year-old has been training from her base in San Francisco and has spent the final few weeks before setting off wiring her own boat, ensuring all the necessary equipment was on-board, and packing enough food for 75 days while keeping her boat as light as possible. (这位出生于伦敦的40岁女子一直在旧金山的基地进行训练,并在启程前的最后几周里着手为自己的船只进行线路铺设,确保船上配备了所有必要的设备,并为75天的航行准备了充足的食物,同时尽可能地减轻船只的重量。)”以及下文内容可知,第二段主要讲述了Ditton为了这次航行所做的包括训练在内的所有前期准备。故选C。 【6题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段中“But this week just after Lia’s start, a tragedy occurred. Fellow distance rower, Angela Madsen lost her life during some routine in-water training. The waters that lie ahead aren’t for the faint of heart. The journey will require Ditton to sail for the Continental Shelf before facing the possibility of ship encounters, extreme weather, and currents, and the travelling through the Shark Café, an area where great white sharks frequent.(但在Lia Ditton启程后的这一周,发生了一件悲剧事件。 故选A。 纵观全文以及最后一段““The Continental Shelf is always rough, but I love the challenge. I’ll also row right through Shark Café,” says Ditton. “It’s certainly not over, until it is over. But I’m ready for everything ahead.”(“大陆架总是崎岖不平,但我喜欢挑战。我还会划船穿过‘鲨鱼咖啡馆’,”Ditton说:“在它结束之前,它肯定不会结束。但我已经为未来的一切做好了准备。”)”可知,Ditton试图打破记录且准备充分,面对困难时说“我爱挑战”、“我准备好了一切”,由此可知,她非常坚定,且积极乐观。故选B。 C There are millions — possibly billions — of ponds (池塘).Yet for a century or so, they are poorly understood and scientists have paid them very little attention. This neglect (忽视) might not have mattered if it were not for increasing evidence that ponds are extremely important habitats for wildlife. Ponds are being shown more bio-diverse than rivers or lakes. Interestingly, this seems to be partly due to the small size of ponds, which allows them to have a wide range of conditions. The community in a pond with clear water will be very different to that in a nearby seasonal pond made cloudy by farm animals. Ponds show far greater variation than rivers and streams, as flowing water tends to equalize water chemistry. So why have we ignored such a vital part of the natural world? A key reason appears to be the bias (偏见) we humans have where we assume that if something is small, it can’t be all that important. Rather than study ponds, scientists in the past typically headed for the largest lake or river they could find. Most of us also devalue ponds because we assume they are artificial habitats: we look at the human-made examples around us and don’t realize that these waters have a deeply ancient origin. In our new book Ponds, Pools and Puddles, we show that ponds have clearly existed on Earth as long as there has been land and water and the geological record shows they have been a constant presence. Now, views are taking on new shapes. Last year, the Ramsar Convention, an international agreement, introduced a proposal on small wetlands, including ponds, giving crucial recognition to them. And the European Union-funded PONDER FUL project is gathering data on Europe’s ponds. In a world where freshwater faces big challenges, creating and protecting ponds provides a ray of hope: a piece of natural ecological (生态的) engineering we can easily achieve to help support one of the most threatened bits of the environment. 8. What may contribute to the biodiversity of ponds? A. The nearby animals. B. The constant temperature water. C. Their diverse conditions. D. Their regularly changing conditions. 9. What caused ponds to be neglected? A. People’s love for nature. B. Insufficient ponds for research. C. People’s mistaken belief of ponds. D. Lacking scientific research methods. 10. Why is “PONDERFUL project” mentioned? A. To promote the Ramsar Convention. B. To prepare for the research on ponds C. To highlight the importance of small wetlands. D. To show the changing attitudes towards ponds. 11. What can we conclude from the last paragraph? A. Penny wise, pound foolish. B. A small key opens a big door. C. Small streams make great rivers D. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. C 9. C 10. D 11. 根据第二段中的“Ponds are being shown more bio-diverse than rivers or lakes. Interestingly, this seems to be partly due to the small size of ponds, which allows them to have a wide range of conditions. (池塘显示出比河流或湖泊更丰富的生物多样性。有趣的是,这似乎部分是由于池塘的规模小,这使得它们有广泛的条件。)”可知,池塘比河流或湖泊有更丰富多样性的部分原因是池塘规模太小,但这种小的规模使得它们拥有有各种各样的条件,由此可知,池塘多样化的条件促成了池塘的生物多样性。故选C项。 【9题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段中的“A key reason appears to be the bias (偏见) we humans have where we assume that if something is small, it can’t be all that important.(一个关键的原因似乎是我们人类的偏见,我们认为如果一件事很小,它就不可能那么重要。)” 根据倒数第二段中的“Now, views are taking on new shapes.(现在,观点呈现出新的形态。)”可知,人们对池塘的观点和看法发生了转变,此处为本段的主题句,结合下文中的“And the European Union-funded PONDER FUL project is gathering data on Europe’s ponds. (欧盟资助的PONDER FUL项目正在收集欧洲池塘的数据。)”可知,此处提到了PONDER FUL项目正在收集欧洲池塘的数据,由此可推断,提到PONDER FUL项目是为了表明人们对池塘态度的变化。故选D项。 【11题详解】 推理判断题。根据尾段中的“In a world where freshwater faces big challenges, creating and protecting ponds provides a ray of hope: a piece of natural ecological (生态的) engineering we can easily achieve to help support one of the most threatened bits of the environment.(在一个淡水面临巨大挑战的世界里,建造和保护池塘提供了一线希望:我们可以轻松实现的自然生态工程,帮助保护环境中最受威胁的部分之一。)” D New era requires a new vocabulary. Will we still talk about the “mobile” phone when all phones are mobile, or when they are implanted within us? Technology is everywhere nowadays, especially at work. Some people are really good at using all the cool new tools that keep popping up. They have something called a TQ, or technology quotient. Think of it like a superpower for understanding the latest tech stuff that our great-grandparents would have found really impossible. Having a high TQ means you’re good at using all the cool new things that not everyone knows about yet. The examples are common and becoming more and more frequent. For the parents it might be a home-school video class. For the brand manager it might be search engine boosting, which helps the brand’s content rank higher in search results. And for the doctor, it might be the role of artificial intelligence in supporting the analysis of a CT scan. TQ tries to quantify our ability to make wise use of present technologies and to quickly adapt, embrace and make use of future creations. This adoption is of great importance from a variety of perspectives, from social to business. One trip into the world of ChatGPT and we can see how the way AI and search interact and operate is changing for just about everyone. Any Mom or Dad can understand the value of IQ and EQ in predicting the potential for a child’s success. But what about technology? The ability for the child and the teacher to understand, embrace and assimilate technology will be a key aspect of their lives as we speed into the future. We are increasingly defined by technology and our active participation in everything from smartphones to Facebook. It might just be time for the basic human needs of food, water and shelter to include technology too. And when that happens, it just might be a good idea to measure it. While this shift brings challenges, it’s unstoppable. As TQ rises, it will combine with IQ and EQ, reshaping how we live, work, and learn — turning adaptability with tech into a measurable advantage. 12. What is TQ according to the text? A. Ability to use new technologies. B. Skill of repairing high-tech products. C. Talent to follow modern changes. D. Speed of learning new languages. 13. Which of the following people has a high TQ? A. A doctor who analyzes CT scans with AI assistance. B. A manager who often uses modern search engines. C. A grandparent who finds new tech devices challenging. D. A mom who watches videos of her child’s school life. 14. What does the underlined word “assimilate” in the fourth paragraph mean? A. Depend on. B. Take in. C. Lie in. D. Insist on. 15. What might be the best title for the passage? A. Why Are IQ and EQ Important for TQ? B. What Makes TQ the New Intelligence? C. How Has TQ Changed in the Modern Era? D. Where to Start Adapting to TQ Changes? A 13. A 14. B 15. 根据第二段中的“They have something called a TQ, or technology quotient. Think of it like a superpower for understanding the latest tech stuff that our great-grandparents would have found really impossible. Having a high TQ means you’re good at using all the cool new things that not everyone knows about yet.(他们拥有一种叫做TQ(技术商数)的东西。你可以把它看作一种超能力,能理解我们曾祖父母辈会觉得完全无法想象的最新科技事物。拥有高TQ意味着你擅长使用那些还不是所有人都了解的酷炫新事物)”以及第三段中的“TQ tries to quantify our ability to make wise use of present technologies and to quickly adapt, embrace and make use of future creations.(TQ试图量化我们明智运用现有技术、快速适应、接纳并利用未来创新成果的能力)”可知,TQ指的是使用新技术的能力。故选A项。 根据第三段中的“TQ tries to quantify our ability to make wise use of present technologies and to quickly adapt, embrace and make use of future creations.(TQ试图量化我们明智运用现有技术、快速适应、接纳并利用未来创新成果的能力)”以及“And for the doctor, it might be the role of artificial intelligence in supporting the analysis of a CT scan.(对于医生来说,这可能是人工智能在辅助CT扫描分析中发挥的作用)”可知,利用人工智能辅助CT扫描分析的医生,体现了对现有技术的明智运用,符合高TQ的特征。故选A项。 根据第四段中的“The ability for the child and the teacher to understand, embrace and assimilate technology will be a key aspect of their lives as we speed into the future.(随着我们快速步入未来,孩子和教师理解、接纳并assimilate技术的能力将成为他们生活中的关键一环)”可知,“assimilate”与“understand(理解)”“embrace(接纳)”为并列关系,语义相近,结合语境可推测其意为“吸收、掌握”,与“Take in”表意一致。 The act of making and being a friend is as simple as it is difficult. Here are a few tips to help you make new friends as well as to take better care of the friendships you already have. Accept the awkwardness. It’s a little bit awkward to reach out to someone you don’t know well — whether that’s sending the first text messages or starting small talk in the elevator. ____16____ Otherwise you can’t make any new friends. ___17___ Actually this advice is based on a well-known theory and some field research. Gallian Sandstorm, a senior lecturer in psychology at the university of Essex in the UK, has done research on something called the “liking gap”, which says that the little voice in your head telling you that somebody doesn’t like you very much is wrong. ____18____ Instead, remember that when you talk to someone else, you are actually brightening their day. Invest in activities that you love. Ask anyone about how to make friends and they will most likely tell you to try a new hobby. It might sound empty, but it works. ____19____ Then people will be drawn to you because you will be in the right place. Be present. The planet is warming, and there is so much good television out there to watch. We get it. But if you want to keep your friendships, you have to show up for them. ____20____ A. So don’t listen to it. B. But you have to accept it. C. Do the things you are crazy about. D. You don’t have to be interested in just one thing. E. You have to listen and notice things about your friend. F. Remember that people will like you more than you think they will. G. We have a few tips for being present and engaged with your friends. B 17. F 18. A 19. C 20. 【16题详解】 前文“It’s a little bit awkward to reach out to someone you don’t know well — whether that’s sending the first text messages or starting small talk in the elevator. (和不太熟悉的人联系是有点尴尬的——无论是第一次发短信还是在电梯里开始闲聊)”指出与不太熟悉的人联系会面临尴尬的问题,后文“Otherwise you can’t make any new friends. (否则你交不到新朋友)”提到不做某事的负面结果,因此B项“But you have to accept it. (但你必须接受)”符合语境,建议接受那种尴尬,和前文构成转折,引出后文的后果。故选B。 【17题详解】 空处位于段首,是段落主旨句,需统领段落内容,且需和其他段首句一样使用祈使句的形式,后文“Actually this advice is based on a well-known theory and some field research. Gallian Sandstorm, a senior lecturer in psychology at the university of Essex in the UK, has done research on something called the “liking gap”, which says that the little voice in your head telling you that somebody doesn’t like you very much is wrong. (实际上,这个建议是基于一个著名的理论和一些实地研究。英国埃塞克斯大学心理学高级讲师加利安•沙德雷姆对“喜爱差距”进行了研究。他的研究表明,你脑海中那种告诉你有人不太喜欢你的小声音是错误的)”表明本段与人们对自己喜爱与否的认知相关,因此F项“Remember that people will like you more than you think they will. (记住,人们会比你想象的更喜欢你)”符合语境,建议相信自己受到他人的喜爱,契合段落内容,后文的this advice指代选项内容。故选F。 【18题详解】 前文“Gallian Sandstorm, a senior lecturer in psychology at the university of Essex in the UK, has done research on something called the “liking gap”, which says that the little voice in your head telling you that somebody doesn’t like you very much is wrong. (英国埃塞克斯大学心理学高级讲师加利安•沙德雷姆对“喜爱差距”进行了研究。他的研究表明,你脑海中那种告诉你有人不太喜欢你的小声音是错误的)”指出不受喜爱的自我认知可能是错误的,后文“Instead, remember that when you talk to someone else, you are actually brightening their day. (相反,记住,当你和别人说话时,你实际上是让他们的一天变得愉快)”给出替代的建议,应相信自己会给别人带来积极的影响,因此A项“So don’t listen to it. (所以不要听信它)”符合语境,其中it指代前文的the little voice,建议否定负面的声音,是基于前文研究的结果,后文是对其进一步说明。故选A。 【19题详解】 前文“Ask anyone about how to make friends and they will most likely tell you to try a new hobby. It might sound empty, but it works. (问别人如何交朋友,他们很可能会告诉你去尝试一个新的爱好。这听起来可能很空洞,但确实有效)”提到尝试新的爱好有助于交友,后文“Then people will be drawn to you because you will be in the right place. (然后人们会被你吸引,因为你会出现在正确的地方)”指出做某件事可以吸引他人,因此C项“Do the things you are crazy about. (做你热爱的事情)”符合语境,建议做热爱的事,承接前文,后文是其后续发展。故选C。 【20题详解】 前文“But if you want to keep your friendships, you have to show up for them. (但是如果你想保持你的友谊,你必须出现在他们面前)”指出维持友谊需要出现在朋友身边,因此E项“You have to listen and notice things about your friend. (你必须倾听并注意到你朋友的一些事情)”符合语境,建议倾听和关注朋友,承接前文。故选E。 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 As a growing family, we gathered lots of things, especially toys. B On June 17th, ocean rower Lia Ditton set off on a 20-foot-long rowboat, alone and unsupported, in an attempt to set the fastest ever time for a solo (独自的) crossing from San Francisco to Hawaii, about 2,500 sea miles. A. C There are millions — possibly billions — of ponds (池塘).Yet for a century or so, they are poorly understood and scientists have paid them very little attention. D New era requires a new vocabulary. The act of making and being a friend is as simple as it is difficult.
