Children’s Museum Singapore, or CMSG for short, aims to cultivate (培养) a love for museums and lifelong learning in children and is guaranteed not to bore the littlest. It takes the littlest back in time at its permanent galleries and delights many with special exhibitions that change annually.
At Children’s Museum Singapore, everything can be touched and any giggle, chatter, or scream of joy is tolerated! It engages all of the children’s senses as there are many things to smell, feel, move and play with!
Some of the galleries at the museum include:
A Voyage Back in Time
This introduces the beginnings of Singapore and its settlers in a highly immersive (沉浸式的) way. There is a theatre show(Hidden Chamber) where the Captain’s treasures tell their stories and the chance to see artefacts up close.
Shophouses
Imagine what it was like in 19th century Singapore and explore busy shophouses, listen to the shopkeepers’ tales and have a go at heritage trades. Our favourite was the tailor’s shop where we could touch and feel the fabrics.
Into the Hawkerverse
Discover Singapore’ s dynamic and irreplaceable hawker (小贩) culture as an important part of Singapore’s food heritage through fun and interactive exhibits. The Into the Hawkerverse exhibition introduces Singapore’s hawker culture to little ones.

While the world is worried about rocketing energy prices, Feldheim, a small German village surrounded by wind power turbines, has been benefiting from its turn to climate-friendly renewables.
“When it comes to keeping the lights on, what’s happening in the rest of the world doesn’t really interest us,”56-year-old Michael Knape, who served as Feldheim mayor for almost a quarter-century, told AFP.
Like much of the eastern state of Brandenburg where it is located, Feldheim, with a population of 130, sits on a flat, windswept plain. It owns dozens of wind turbines that generate plenty of energy. Since one of them provides enough power for the whole village, excess energy is stored in batteries for use in periods with little wind, or sold to the network operators.
As for heating, a biogas plant runs on leftover grain from an agricultural cooperative. On very cold evenings, the village gets a boost from a woodchip-fired plant.
“We hope it always stays like this,” said Petra Richter, whose oil-powered boiler was replaced 15 years ago with pipes carrying communal hot water and a heat exchanger. “I just pay an average of 12 cents per kilowatt hour of electricity, less than half the price usually paid elsewhere in Germany.”
According to Knape, the local government also saves several hundred thousand euros a year by doing without fossil fuels.
Feldheim started its move towards clean renewables in the 1990s and by 2010 achieved its “energy self-sufficiency”. The small village has since attracted attention from across the world as an example of Germany’s decades-old energy transition project away from fossil fuels and nuclear power.
“Feldheim has benefited from its unique local conditions and significant investments,” Knape admitted. “Obviously, I can’t compare this village with a big city. In the long term, Germany still has to think about new solutions.”
24. What can we say about Brandenburg?
A. It is located in a very windy region. B. It has achieved its energy self-sufficiency.
C. It is a village with a small population. D. It started investing in renewables long ago.
25. What is the woodchip-fired plant mainly used for in Feldheim?
A. Lighting. B. Battery charging.
C. Heating. D. Leftover grain recycling.
26. Which word can best describe the wind power project in Feldheim?
A. Controversial. B. Unreliable. C. Inefficient. D. Profitable.
27. What does Michael Knape imply in the last paragraph?
A. Projects in Feldheim cost a lot of money.
B. Renewables aren’t a one-size-fits-all solution.
C. He is proud of his achievements in Feldheim.
D. Feldheim should invest more in renewables.

Everyone loves dolphins. They’re adorable and playful. They’re often called the geniuses of the ocean. But in a recent piece for New Scientist, Caroline Williams has begun to question that last assumption.
“When it comes to brainpower, dolphins might not be as special as we might think,” Williams writes. “Studies do show that dolphins can understand symbols the way humans do, but so can sea lions, parrots, monkeys and more. Actually the sea lions learn them more quickly.”
Williams also questions the so-called “mirror test”, which claims that dolphins can recognize themselves or have a sense of self. “But if you look at the data, they perform the same behavior when the mirror’s there and when it’s not,” she argues.
The size of a dolphin’s brain — even larger than a chimpanzee’s — is often used as proof to its intelligence, but Williams says that is also not the case. “They do have big brains, but then again the relationship between size and intelligence is kind of a tricky one anyway,” she says.
According to Williams, the image of dolphins as “peaceful, loving geniuses” can be traced back to Dr. John Lilly. Lilly thought dolphins were at least as intelligent as humans, and spent years trying to figure out a way to communicate with the creature. Lilly’s life and work were an inspiration for the 1973 science fiction film The Day of the Dolphin. George Scott plays a version of Lilly — a researcher who teaches dolphins to speak English.
“As a result of his early work, dolphins did start to get more attention and more researchers started looking into their intelligence,” Williams explains. “If similar things had been said about sea lions back then, maybe they would have been given just as much study. So that’s been good and bad really. On the one hand, it means we do understand dolphins quite well because there’s been a lot of research on them. On the other hand, they may be unfairly elevated (抬高) above other species. Our study shows that they are on par with other species at the most.”
28. Which statement is Caroline Williams very unlikely to agree with?
A. The mirror test is misleading. B. Sea lions may be smarter than dolphins.
C. Dolphins are super intelligent. D. Intelligence is not determined by brain size.
29. What is George Scott?
A. A writer. B. A scientist. C. A teacher. D. An actor.
30. Which of the following can replace the underlined phrase “on par with” in the last paragraph?
A. As smart as. B. Aware of.
C. Suitable for. D. Less sensitive than.
31. What is the author’s main purpose in writing the text?
A. To review a movie. B. To introduce a new study.
C. To make an argument. D. To expose false assumptions.

If we build settlements on Mars, how will we feed ourselves? Relying on deliveries from Earth would take too long and costs would be too high, since getting to the Red Planet is currently a nine-month one-way journey. On top of that, processed foodstuff lacks vital nutrients.
Building upon their past research, scientists at Wageningen University in the Netherlands are now exploring how to use a technique perfected by Maya farmers centuries ago to increase crop production on Mars. The method, named intercropping, involves growing multiple kinds of plants together in greenhouses that reproduced conditions that could eventually be found on Mars.
Inside the greenhouses, the researchers filled pots with a mixture of rocks, dust and sand, known as regolith, that is similar to Martian soil. Separately, they also filled some pots with standard potting soil and some with river sand. They added a small amount of organic soil to both the regolith and river sand pots to help root growth.
Then, they planted peas, carrots and tomatoes in each of the different soil types, both on their own (a practice known as “monocropping”) and together (intercropping). Their past research had shown that these three crops could grow in Martian regolith, which allowed the team to focus specifically on their questions about intercropping. Peas, carrots and tomatoes are also promising Mars crops because they are high in vitamin C and other nutrients that are typically reduced or destroyed during processing.
After 105 days, they harvested their crops and calculated the yield and nutritional value of each plant. Their results were a bit mixed. In the Martian regolith, tomatoes grew much better when planted alongside carrots and peas. The carrots, meanwhile, had a lower yield in intercropping compared to monocropping. The peas fared similarly under both conditions.
“The tomato did profit from the peas, but the carrot most certainly did not,” says study co-author Wieger Wamelink. “This was probably due to lack of light. The tall tomato and pea plants did out-compete the carrot by taking light from it.”
32. What is paragraph 3 mainly about?
A. The choice of the crops. B. The preparation of the soil.
C. The definition of regolith. D. The making of Martian soil.
33. What did the researchers do in their previous experiment?
A. They invented two new cropping methods. B. They concentrated on increasing production.
C. They tried to preserve the nutrients in the crops. D. They tested if the plants could survive in regolith.
34. What did the researchers find in the current experiment?
A. Carrots grew much faster than peas. B. Monocropping worked better for peas.
C. Only tomatoes benefited from intercropping. D. Tomatoes and carrots were the best combination.
35. How do the researchers most probably feel about planting the crops on Mars?
A. Optimistic. B. Doubtful. C. Cautious. D. Uninterested.

The concept of so-called “biorhythms”, or periods of 23, 28, and 33 days is all over social media. ___36___. But it’s essentially nonsense.
The idea behind so-called “biorhythms” is that over the course of month-long periods, your physical, emotional, and intellectual states are up and down, so you should adjust your personal schedule and act when each of them is at the top of one of its cycles. This thinking dictates (使人相信) that you are productive only on certain days in a month and it gives you permission to relax when you perceive yourself to be on the low end of these so-called rhythms. ___37___: If you’re patiently waiting for a biorhythm to peak, your responsibilities and tasks can add up, which will leave you with a bunch of stuff to do — and much of it, left alone for so long, will likely become urgent.
Scientists have looked into this and proven it wrong, but the enduring belief in this phenomenon has led to some money grabs when some people try to sell you products that seemingly can help you control your own biorhythms to maximize your energy, productivity, and happiness.
Now, you might have heard of circadian rhythms (昼夜节律) and assumed biorhythms are roughly the same thing. ___38___. According to the National Institute of General Medical Sciences, circadian rhythms are physical, mental, and behavioral changes that flow along a day-long cycle and they’re influenced by light and dark. There’s a whole science behind it, which amounts to this: ___39___, since your body sleeps at night, and you will be awake in daylight to get stuff done, ideally feeling alert.
___40___. You’ll be more productive if you get consistent and good sleep. You don’t need to track peaks or subscribe to apps to master this. Instead, focus on getting quality sleep and maximizing what you are doing during those precious daylight hours.
A. The problem is obvious
B. In fact, they’re quite different
C. You get tired when it gets dark
D. You should take a break when you feel tired
E. You might think there’s some science behind it
F. So-called “biorhythms” aren’t real, but circadian rhythms are
G. There are, however, other ways to track your peaks in productivity

67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Last month, 10-year-old Charles moved to a new community with his parents. Everything felt strange: unfamiliar streets, empty playgrounds, and new neighbours. He missed his old friends and often sat by the window, staring at the quiet yard. “Nobody here even knows my name,” he whispered.
One afternoon, a sudden storm caught Charles on his way home from school. He ran and hid at a bus stop, wet and cold. An old man noticed him and handed him an umbrella. “Take it, boy, or you’ll catch a cold,” he said kindly. “I know you just moved next door. I saw you walking towards our street.” Charles was deeply touched by his kindness.
The next day, Charles went to return the umbrella. The old man, Grandpa Wilson, showed him the small backyard, where a wooden box of old books sat under the tree. Charles noticed a worn photo of smiling children. “That was my class,” Grandpa Wilson said softly. “I used to tell them stories in this backyard.” Charles gradually opened his heart. “I miss my old friends. I feel like a stranger here.” Grandpa Wilson listened patiently and smiled, “Everyone was a stranger once. A seed needs time to take root.” For the first time in weeks, Charles laughed.
As they talked on, however, a worried look returned to Charles’s face. “Our school will hold a Storytelling Day next week. I have to tell a story in front of the class, but I don’t have the courage, and I have no friends to discuss it with,” he admitted. Grandpa Wilson understood his trouble at once. He was silent for a moment, and then a warm smile spread across his face. “You have me, Charles. Come to my backyard tomorrow evening — I have something for you.”
注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
The next evening, Charles went to Grandpa Wilson’s backyard with curiosity.

【答案】24. A 25. C 26. D 27. B
【解析】
【导语】文章主要介绍了德国小村庄Feldheim的能源转型项目。
【24题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段“Like much of the eastern state of Brandenburg where it is located, Feldheim, with a population of 130, sits on a flat, windswept plain.(费尔德海姆拥有130人口,坐落在平坦而多风的平原上,就像它所在的德国东部勃兰登堡州的大部分地区一样。)”可知,Brandenburg位于一个风很大的地区。
【25题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段“As for heating, a biogas plant runs on leftover grain from an agricultural cooperative. On very cold evenings, the village gets a boost from a woodchip-fired plant.(供暖方面,沼气厂依靠农业合作社的剩余粮食运转。严寒夜晚,木屑燃烧供热站会额外补充供热。)”可知,这个木屑燃烧供热站是用来临时供热的。
【26题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段“Since one of them provides enough power for the whole village, excess energy is stored in batteries for use in periods with little wind, or sold to the network operators.(其中一座风力涡轮机发电量便可满足全村需求,多余电力存入电池,供无风时段使用,或是售卖给电网运营商。)”可知,多余电力可知售卖给电网运营商,说明这些风电项目是赚钱的。
【27题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段Michael Knape的话“Feldheim has benefited from its unique local conditions and significant investments(费尔德海姆受益于其独特的地方条件和大量的投资)”和“Obviously, I can’t compare this village with a big city. In the long term, Germany still has to think about new solutions.(显然,我无法将这个村庄与大城市相比。从长远来看,德国仍然必须考虑新的解决方案。)”可推断,Michael Knape认为费尔德海姆对可再生能源的利用是个例,并不适合整个国家,他不认为可再生能源能解决所有问题。

【答案】32. B 33. D 34. C 35. A
【解析】
【导语】文章主要介绍了混合种植对西红柿,豆角及胡萝卜产量的影响。

【34题详解】
细节理解题。根据第五段“In the Martian regolith, tomatoes grew much better when planted alongside carrots and peas.(在火星风化层土壤环境中,与胡萝卜、豆角间作套种时,番茄长势要好得多)”以及最后一段“The tomato did profit from the peas, but the carrot most certainly did not(番茄能得益于豆角套种,胡萝卜却完全没能从中获益)”可知,西红柿最适合混合种植。
【35题详解】
推理判断题。根据第四段“Their past research had shown that these three crops could grow in Martian regolith, which allowed the team to focus specifically on their questions about intercropping. (他们此前的研究表明,这三种作物能够在火星的土壤中生长,这使得研究团队能够专门针对间作的相关问题展开研究)”及这次的实验结果可推断,科研人员应该很有信心在火星上种植这些作物:他们已经确认了这些作物能在火星土壤中成长,现在他们又找到了提高产量的方法。

【答案】36. E 37. A 38. B 39. C 40. F

Jane August launched what seemed like a straightforward plan: She would visit every museum in New York City and ____41____ a short video of each one.
She ____42____ it would take three years at most. But with 136 museums documented since 2021, she still has about 64 to go. And with ____43____ museums opening and some old ones changing so ____44____ that they deserve a revisit, the 26-year-old now says she’s realistically aiming to complete the project before she’s 30.
“At first, I started the project to get myself out of my house and experience the ____45____ in the city,” says August. “I wasn’t a big museum fan before starting the project, and had only been to around seven by the time.”
But as she began, the plan quickly ____46____.
“I decided that TikTok would be a(n) ____47____ way to document this project so my friends could keep up with my ____48____ and maybe discover something new,” continues August. “But my audience has since ____49____ to more than 40,000 across social platforms.”
She thinks that this project is especially ____50____ for the lesser-known museums that don’t often get press or social media coverage.
“There are some small museums that get a huge ____51____ in attendance and press after I have posted my videos.
注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】One possible version:
The next evening, Charles went to Grandpa Wilson’s backyard with curiosity. Grandpa Wilson was waiting by the wooden box under the tree. He handed Charles a storybook, saying, “Pick one you love, and I will be your first audience.” Charles chose a story about a shy boy planting a seed. Sitting on the backyard bench, the old man changed Charles’s voice for every character. His warm smile urged Charles on whenever he wanted to give up. By the end of the evening, Charles could tell the story fluently without the book.
Days later, on the Storytelling Day, Charles’s heart was beating fast but his steps were steady. Onstage, he took a deep breath and began his story. His voice grew stronger, and the whole class laughed and clapped warmly. After class, several classmates crowded around him, shouting his name cheerfully as if he were a shining star. After school, he ran straight to the backyard and hugged Grandpa Wilson tightly. For the first time, Charles felt he truly belonged here — a seed had finally taken root in this new home.
