When I was 14,my parents made me volunteer at Greenfield Animal Shelter as punishment for skipping
math class."You need to learn responsibility,"Mom said, handing me a brightly colored uniform that was
too big..The shelter smelled like wet fur and disinfectant(悄毒剂);and my job was cleaning cages
washing food from bowls and sticky floors.
On my third Saturday,I noticed a golden retriever named Max.His cage card said his owner had passed
away, and he'd been at the shelter for three months.Unlike other dogs,Max covered in the corner, shaking
at every noise. When I entered his kennel,he flattened himself into a trembling pancake.
"He's sweet but scared of everything,"Ms.Torres,a shelter worker, told me.She showed me old
injuries on his legs from when he'd tried to bite through the bars.
I decided to spend my breaks with Max.At first,I just sat near his food bowl, reading aloud from a
book. His breathing slowed to whispers.Soon,he let me touch his ears. When I dropped my keys,he
stepped back but stayed.
"You're making progress,"Ms.Torres said one day."But don't get too attached.Dogs like him rarely
get adopted..”
I didn't listen.I brought him a tennis ball, and we played fetch in the outdoor pen.His tail wagged a
little more each time. One rainy day,he licked ()my hand, and I,with tears in my eyes, felt a lump in my
throat.
Then, one morning,a family stopped at Max's kennel. The youngest girl called him a"golden cloud."
Max didn't hide.He walked forward,tail wagging,and licked her fingers.
As they filled out the adoption papers,I hid in the storage closet, hugging my knees.I heard their
laughter, the jingle of Max's new collar, and the sound of the door shutting. When I came out,Ms.Torres
smiled..“You did good,kid,”she said.
Max taught me tha courage isn't about being fearless-it's about taking small steps toward something
bigger. Now,whenever I'm scared to try something new,I remember his wagging tail and the day he trusted
the world again.

17 million Americans with major depressive disorder each year may soon receive a surprising new
prescription:have fun on a virtual reality device.
Engaging in activities that make people with severe depression feel good may seem like overly simplistic
advice. But the science behind this idea, called"behavioral activation",is well established.Multiple studies
have found that encouraging people to get outside or socialize can help ease the symptoms of depression. Now,
researchers have discovered that engaging in enjoyable activities with a virtual realty system may be as
effective in treating depression as taking depression patients out in the real world. And for those depressed to
a level that makes leaving the house a challenge,it could provide the benefits of getting outside.
A study by the team followed twenty-six people with major depressive disorder.Thirteen people were
assigned traditional behavioral activation, engaging with real life activities by going on outings in their
community or socializing.with friends. The other thirteen people received a VR headset to participate in
activities ranging from playing table tennis to touring foreign cities.
After four weeks, both groups saw a significant decrease in their symptoms of depression and their
第7页共12页
depression ratings. Moreover, many people who had used the VR devices said the virtual activities had helped
push them to get out of the house and be more involved in in-person activities.A researcher said,"These
virtual activities got their motors running just enough to get out of bed."
The only negative feedback is learning how to set up the device,as well as the need for alerts or
reminders to keep people accountable for engaging in the behavioral activation. The researchers have since
developed a companion VR behavioral activation app that helps address some of these concerns.
The team says larger and longer-term studies are needed to find the best ways to administer virtual
behavioral activation,as well as which patient populations might be best targeted with the VR treatment. They
also think more efforts are needed to inform clinicians about how to prescribe VR behavioral activation
appropriately. They believe the cost and ease of many VR platforms make it an easy treatment to scale up.
61.Which of the following is the best example of"behavioral activation"for people with depression?
A.Watching a cooking show on TV at home.
B.Reaaing mystery novels alone in the study.
C.Participating in a local charity event with others.
D.Playing single player video games on a computer.
62.How did the team conduct the study?
A.By interviewing the patients in hospital.
B.By keeping track of two groups'transformations.
C.By using VR to simulate the patients'conditions.
D.By comparing VR therapy with medicine treatment.
63.What does the team think of the VR treatment?
A.Complex.
B.Effective.
C.Secure.
D.Exceptional.
64.What specific aspect do the researchers plan to further explore regarding VR treatment?
A.The suitable strategies for applying VR treatment.
B.The acceptance of the VR treatment for patients.
C.The development of a VR behavioral activation app.
D.The cost of popularizing VR platforms.
65.According to the passage, which of the following can be inferred?
A.VR treatment is already the mainstream in clinics.
B.fhe VR app will soon replace face-to-face-therapy.
C.Traditional activation has outperformed VR activation
D.VR success may boost non-traditional therapy research

In today's digital age, where a vast ocean of information is just a click away, the question arises:can one
learn too much?Given that no individual can grasp the entirety of human knowledge. However, there exists a
phenomenon where excessive learning can lead to inaction,a state of being overwhelmed by too much
information.
Consider a scenario where you're eager to achieve a particular goal. You begin by conducting extensive
research, diving deep into the subject. As you absorb more information,it paradoxically (feels like
your understanding diminishes. Each new concept or strategy reveals further layers, making the goal seem
more complex and out of reach.
This situation is a common trap:the endless pursuit of more information.Although gaining
comprehensive knowledge is valuable, that is to say there's nothing wrong with learning a lot, issues arise
when this pursuit obstructs practical application. If learning continuously prevents you from starting, you'll
find yourself stuck, unable to achieve your desired outcomes.
An alternative and more effective approach to achieving goals is to strike a balance between learning and
doing.Gather essential information, then transition into action swiftly, even if you feel somewhat unprepared.
This is often the best way to learn,as hands-on experience provides insights that theoretical knowledge alone
cannot.
The comparison with a baby learning to walk is a good example here.A baby doesn't learn to walk by
sitting and analyzing the process.Instead,it learns by attempting to walk, falling, and then understanding from
each fall what works and what doesn't.Through repeated effort, walking is eventually mastered. This method
is applicable to goal achievement too.By engaging in action, learning from the outcomes, and adjusting
accordingly, you gradually move closer to your goals.
In summary, while the pursuit of knowledge is valuable,it's crucial not to let it become a barrier to action.
Learning should be a stepping stone to doing, not an end in itself. It's through the interplay of gathering
knowledge and applying it that we can truly progress towards our aspirations. This balanced approach is key
to overcoming the paralysis of overlearning and actively moving towards realizing your ambitions.
66.What problem does the digital age present in learning?
A.Too much information.
B.Learning to inaction.
C.Online distractions.
D.Technical issues.
67.What stops people from achieving the goal?
A.The distraction caused by unrelated tasks.
B.Theanability to find relevant information.
第9贞共12负
C.The confusion caused by the information.
D.The desire to learn basic concept or strategy.
68.Why is practical experience important in the learning process?
A.It replaces continuous learning.
B.It is irrelevant in gaining knowledge.
C.It holds back theoretical understanding.
D.It offers a comprehensive understanding.
69.The example"baby learning to walk"mentioned in Paragraph 5 is used to
A.compare different learning styles
B.show the importange of making mistakes
C.emphasize the need for parental guidance
D.explain learning through action and experience
What makes the best title for the passage?
A.The Paradox of Information Overload
B.The Harmony of Learning and Doing
C.The Pursuit of Balanced Knowledge
D.The Process of Learning to Walk

第一节:阅读表达(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
Many people, some even at a very young age,set the goal of graduating from college. One American
woman in Texas waited a long time for her chance to reach that goal.
The woman is 84-year-old Janet Fein.Last week, she received her bachelor's degree from the University
of Texas at Dallas
Fein has had a full life. She has raised five children and then had a career as a secretary until she retired
at age 77.But even then, she was not ready to take it easy and rest during a well-earned retirement.
"I didn't have anything to do in retirement and I didn't think that playing bingo was up to my speed,"Fein
said. She said she made up her mind to major in sociology.
Fein spent her childhood in the Bronx,New York City, where her family lived in poverty. After graduating
early from high school, she started working as a secretary at a dress manufacturer at the age of 16.Following
her marriage, she spent 18 years raising her children at home.Throughout her life,Fein held various jobs,
including 20 years as a secretary in a Dallas hospital, which she retired from in 2012.She also devoted 20
第10贞共12贞
years to earning an associate degree, which she received in 1995.
Fein, despite her life experiences, had a strong desire to earn a bachelor's degree. She found joy in reading,
writing papers, and learning new things.Taking advantage of a state program, she joined around 2,000 others
aged 65 and older in Texas who attend public university classes for free.Although less than 1%ofU.S.college
students are in this age group, health experts believe continuing education later in life can help maintain fitness.
Despite worsening health conditions,Fein persevered, using a walker and oxygen, and even completing the
remaining degree requirements through online classes.
Her college advisor was Sheila Rollerson. She said that Fein never showed signs of giving up even with
all of her difficulties."She kept working hard at her studies and in return she received her bachelor's degree
and respect,"Rollerson said.
Renee Brown, one of Fein's caregivers, found inspiration from her.At 53,Brown plans to begin nursing
school, encouraged by Fein's words of confidence and the fulfillment that comes with achievement.

72.What's the meaning of the underlined words in Paragraph 4?(no more than 1 word)
