Being clear and brief — while maintaining interest and including everything your listeners need to know — is a high-level communication skill. Here are some tips worth following in order to communicate more effectively. Keep your audience in mind. Your audience will naturally be more interested and engaged when you tailor your communications to their interests. 37 This will engage their desire to understand and interact with the information. Don’t use ten words when one will do. Even the most engaged and committed audience will eventually get bored. Keeping your message simple and clear will make it easier for people to understand. 38 However, they’re hearing it for the first time. Keep it simple. 39 If you’ve ever worked as an instructor, manager, trainer or coach, you’ll know that there are few better ways to learn new information than to teach it. Ask the audience to contribute their ideas or to take a role in explaining new concepts and policies to others. Allow them to lead discussions and meetings to develop their communication skills. Consider the best method to deliver your message. If the information you’re communicating isn’t urgent, consider sending an email. Written communication will give your audience more time to review it, think it over, and follow up with questions. 40       Building effective communication skills takes time, but the effects are worth the effort. A.Be patient. B.Get the audience involved. C.The best messages are often simple. D.Speak directly to what matters to them. E.You may be surprised by what your listeners offer. F.It will also give them a handy record to refer back to. G.As the speaker, you already know what you’re going to say. ●选项定位7个选项中有3个是祈使句ABD→看小标题下面的内容→①contribute their ideas or to take a role in explaining new concepts and policies to others(贡献自己的想法,或在向他人解释新概念和政策方面发挥作用)②Allow them to lead discussions and meetings to develop their communication skills让他们主持讨论和会议,以发展他们的沟通技巧→B.Get the audience involved. ●故选B 39.【答案】B 【解析】本题考查小标题,根据后文“Ask the audience to contribute their ideas or to take a role in explaining new concepts and policies to others. Allow them to lead discussions and meetings to develop their communication skills.(要求听众贡献自己的想法,或参与向他人解释新的概念和政策。 If you want to be published, it’s vital to submit a perfect, professionally presented manuscript (原稿). 36That means good grammar and no spelling mistakes. No editor is likely to tolerate a writer who does not take the trouble to spell words correctly. I keep two reference books close-by on my desk: dictionary and thesaurus I don’t trust my laptop’s spellchecker. 37It takes no account of the context. … 38 It should give you a precise definition of each word, thus differentiating it from other words whose meanings are similar, but not identical. It will also usually show how the word is pronounced. In addition, I have an old two-volume copy of the Shorter Oxford Dictionary, picked up a few years ago in a bookshop sale for just 99 pence. … … A. I don’t often use this dictionary. B. It takes no account of the context. C. But I still don’t want to replace them. D. But a dictionary can be a pleasure to read. E. Of course, a dictionary is not only for spelling. F. That means good grammar and no spelling mistakes. G. Dictionaries don’t always give you enough information. ●看段首句38空下面的内容→ It should give you a precise definition of each word, thus differentiating it from other words whose meanings are similar, but not identical. It will also usually show how the word is pronounced.→ a precise definition、differentiating it from other words、also usually show how the word is pronounced→E. Of course, a dictionary is not only for spelling.→词典不仅仅是帮助拼写、还给出定义、给出区别、展示发音→E引出下文和后文是并列关系 ●故选E 【答案】E 【解析】38.下文“It should give you a precise definition of each word, thus differentiating it from other words whose meanings are similar, but not identical. It will also usually show how the word is pronounced.(它应该给出每个单词的精确定义,从而将其与其他含义相似但不相同的单词区分开来。 提到了字典的功能,E选项“Of course, a dictionary is not only for spelling.(当然,字典不仅仅是用来拼写的。)” 例(2024年1月•浙江卷·阅读七选五节选) 40 A social connection is often a big part of learning. There are things you can do to ease this problem. Jessica Pink, an undergraduate student, suggests taking online courses with a friend, so you can motivate each other to stay on track. You can also find students on the class discussion board to organize a study group, or schedule in-person meetings with your professor to discuss course concepts. A.But that doesn’t mean there aren’t deadlines. B.Your motivation should be your main concern. C.Do you know that online courses are also part of your education? D.Professor Alex Davidson teaches the same course in person and online. E.The chief complaint about online courses is that they lack human interaction. F.If you take an online course, what can you do to ensure the best possible grade? G.A survey found that 29 percent of college students registered for online courses. ●看段首句40空下面的内容→ A social connection is often a big part of learning. There are things you can do to ease this problem. Jessica Pink, an undergraduate student, suggests taking online courses with a friend, so you can motivate each other to stay on track. You can also find students on the class discussion board to organize a study group, or schedule in-person meetings with your professor to discuss course concepts.→social connection、motivate each other、 the class discussion、organize a study group→互动的内容→E.The chief complaint about online courses is that they lack human interaction.→human interaction人们间的互动 ●故选E 【答案】E 【解析】设空处位于段首,此处是提出问题,后文解决问题There are things you can do to ease this problem。由下文“A social connection is often a big part of learning. There are things you can do to ease this problem. Jessica Pink, an undergraduate student, suggests taking online courses with a friend, so you can motivate each other to stay on track. You can also find students on the class discussion board to organize a study group, or schedule in-person meeting s with your professor to discuss course concepts. 你也可以在课堂讨论板上找到学生,组织一个学习小组,或者安排与教授面对面的会议,讨论课程概念)”可知,本空要说跟“人们之间的互动”有关的话题,故E选项“The chief complain t about online courses is that they lack human interaction. 有时会出现下列衔接词汇或短语结构: first, second, then, next, later, soon, so, but, however, additionally, what’s more, that is, namely, in other words, for one thing. . 例(2025•浙江新高考卷·阅读填空节选) Don’t use ten words when one will do. Even the most engaged and committed audience will eventually get bored. Keeping your message simple and clear will make it easier for people to understand. 38 However, they’re hearing it for the first time. Keep it simple. A.Be patient.ida B.Get the audience involved. C.The best messages are often simple. D.Speak directly to what matters to them. E.You may be surprised by what your listeners offer. F.It will also give them a handy record to refer back to. G.As the speaker, you already know what you’re going to say. ●看段中句38空下文的内容→ However, they’re hearing it for the first time.(然而,他们是第一次听到这些)→上句和这个句子内容构成转折关系→G.As the speaker, you already know what you’re going to say.→for the first time与already→表现出了转折关系 ●故选G · 考点 四考查段尾句 段尾句通常具有,应当注意选项中是否出现表示结果、结论、总结等的信息词。 2.总结句:用于总结本段内容,常含有总结性的词语,如therefore、 as a result、 thus、 to sum up、 to conclude、 in a word等。 3. 例(2025•全国II卷) ●You’ll feel like you have more time. People often feel they are too busy to volunteer. Yet, research has found that giving your time to community causes actually makes you feel like you have more of it. ___17___ A. Helping the community lowers rates of depression. B. Volunteering as a family may be just the thing you need. C. Volunteering has a lifelong effect on kids and teenagers. D. Volunteering can be the first step in breaking down prejudice. E. For adults, volunteering can provide significant physical health benefits. F. You may even learn that your kid has a talent you didn’t know about before. G. Volunteering makes you feel capable and inspires you to make the most of each day. ●看段尾句17空上文的内容→ Yet, research has found that giving your time to community causes actually makes you feel like you have more of it.→G. Volunteering makes you feel capable and inspires you to make the most of each day.→构成因果关系,解释了you have more time的原因 ●故选G 【答案】G 【解析】17. G 根据段落主题句“You’ll feel like you have more time. (你会觉得自己有更多时间)”及下文“Yet, research has found that giving your time to community causes actually makes you feel like you have more of it. G选项“Volunteering makes you feel capable and inspires you to make the most of each day. (志愿活动让你感觉有能力,并激励你充分利用每一天)”中的“makes you feel capable”和“inspires you to make the most of each day”从心理层面解释了为何志愿活动会让人产生时间更充裕的感觉,与“feel like you have more time”形成因果关联。 All the people on our block give us trouble. Mrs. Brown calls the police whenever we go to play ball on the street. Mrs. Johnson complains that skateboarding makes too much noise. If we happen to stray into Mr. Hardy's yard, he yells at us. We had a hard time getting Peter out of the hole he had fallen into. First, we made a rope by linking our belts together. Then we lowered it to Peter, telling him to grasp the end. After he had hold of the rope, we began to pull him slowly out of the hole. As he came up, no one dared to speak a word. Finally, we could grasp him arms, and with a sigh of relief, we pulled him out onto the grassy bank. I seem to be suffering from all the illnesses imaginable: insomnia (失眠), headache, backache, indigestion (消化不良), constipation (便秘) and pains in the stomach. To make things still worse (更糟糕的是), I've caught a cold, I've got a sore throat, and I'm constantly sneezing and coughing. To crown it all (最糟糕的是), I had an accident the other day, hurt my right shoulder, leg and knee, and nearly broke my neck. If I take a long walk, I get short of breath. In fact, I feel more dead than alive. to make things worse 和 to crown it all,清楚地表现了这种层递关系。 Cloning takes the DNA from a single cell to create a whole new individual. A clone is an organism which is genetically identical to another one. But it's now certain that no clone is an exact copy because of differences in experiences and upbringing.(克隆技术通过提取单个细胞的DNA来创造出一个完整的新个体。 It's tempting to see the life of a journalist as glamorous and exciting, but as with any other occupation, there is a lot of hard work and routine activity. It also depends on what kind of publication you work for. However, each day is different and you will cover a wide range of news stories and features. Friends come in many flavors. There are best friends, school friends, fair-weather friends (顺境朋友), forever friends and many more. Best friends are friends with whom you spend a lot of time and with whom you share all your thoughts and feelings. School friends are different: you see each other in school and you study and have fun together, but you may not know everything about each other. Fair-weather friends are friends who only like you when you are happy or when you are popular. If you are feeling down, or if you are having a problem, fair-weather friends don't want to spend time or talk with you. Forever friends are friends that will always listen to you and try to help you, even if you disagree or if you are having a problem. Do you know that the average person puts only 25% of his energy and ability into his work? That means those who use 50% of their ability really stand out from the rest. And the very few who actually give their full 100% of strength and smarts to their work become the most successful. Many people want the greener grass, but they don't want to pay the higher water bill to get it! Advertisers discovered years ago that all of us love to get something out of nothing. An advertisement which begins with the magic word FREE can rarely go wrong. These days, advertisers not only offer free samples, but free cars, free houses, and free trips around the world as well. The surface of the earth is like the skin of an orange, which cannot be spread out flat unless it is torn into strips. That is why flat maps of the whole earth always distort its appearance. 实战闯关·模考特训 1. 2026届 苏锡常镇四市高三下学期教学情况调研(一) StoryTree is a website for sharing, encouraging, and recording personal and family memories and history. It can be done online or offline, in real-time, or in your own time, all in a fun and simple new way. ____36____ All of them work well together to support each other. ____37____ StoryTree is different. It lets you “tap” those photos and stories into your digital journal and topical memory books. Everyone belonging to your StoryTree can add and read the entries in real time, or at any time! Additionally, once a week StoryTree sends everyone in a StoryTree group an interesting prompt (提示) into their StoryChat as well as to their emails, to help bring back memories and encourage reflection and discussion. ____38____ (But if your brother tells a big fish story, you will surely want to correct it with the true version!) And if you prefer to save your stories and memories in an additional “private journal”, you can simply create a synchronized (同步的) personal StoryTree that only you can see. ____39____ In fact, create as many StoryTrees as you like, and synchronize as many as you like too! ____40____ It’s like having a kind and curious author come to your home whenever you want and have her interview you to compose your personal or family biography. Who doesn’t want to have a personal history book written for them? There are over 700 questions in five categories the StoryBook interviewer can ask you, all about your life and family, at your leisure. The fourth and final key tool is StoryBox. It can hold all your old photos, videos, memorable documents, talks, artwork, schoolwork to either store or to sort out later. A. StoryTree does all of this through four key tools. B. Memories can only be shared and preserved alone. C. Each person can read it and respond, or not, as they like. D. StoryTree can also serve as an “automated life-story writer”. E. Or just use StoryTree as a private journal without any group Tree at all. F. It can record whatever you put into your group StoryTree — automatically! G. Most apps let shared photos and life experiences be “Here today, gone tomorrow”. 2. 2026届 苏锡常镇四市2026年5月高三教学情况调研(二) Adults should be getting at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity (中等强度) exercise every week, according to the Physical Activity Guidelines published recently. The guidelines advise adults to do muscle-strengthening activities of moderate or greater intensity at least twice per week. ____36____ “Engaging in a variety of exercises is definitely beneficial,” Voos, who is head team doctor for a football team, said. “Your body needs different ranges of motion, strength and stability. ____37____” This is especially true for children. Sports medicine experts have long encouraged kids to play multiple sports and not to specialize in one at a young age. A lot of data on the topic shows children who specialize in a sport when young have an increased risk of injury. ____38____ They are less bored with exercise and enjoy greater sports achievements when they are older. __ __39____ Voos said football players at training camp might do a lot of conditioning one day, then work on flexibility and balance the next, then move onto strength training, all of which is intermixed with playing football. “So even at the highest levels, our athletes are exposing their bodies to different motions,” Voos said. Another plus to shaking things up with your exercise routine, especially if you prefer one activity, is that it helps prevent the plateau (高原) effect. ____40____ That’s because your body has become very efficient at the movements. To overcome such pauses, you need to change your movement routine and stimulate your body in different ways. While changing up your exercise is important for many reasons, experts don’t have specific recommendations for how many different exercises you need to do each week or month to achieve the most benefit. They can range from minor errors to significant missteps that change our life’s direction. Instead of getting lost in regret, it’s crucial to learn how to heal and grow from those experiences. ____36____ Here are the tips you can try the next time you want to forgive yourself. Understand the impact of past mistakes. Past mistakes often leave emotional marks. Feelings such as guilt, shame, and regret can overshadow our lives. Recognizing how these emotions affect us is the first step to healing. It’s vital to remember that making mistakes is a normal part of being human. ____37____ Embracing this shared experience can help you approach it with understanding rather than harsh judgment. ____38____ Releasing guilt and shame is essential for healing. These negative feelings can trap you in a loop of self-blame. To break free, start by reflecting on your mistake and its consequences. Self-compassion is key. Treat yourself as you would treat a friend who made a similar mistake. Remind yourself that everyone fails and that your past actions do not define your worth. Learn from mistakes. Every error comes with a lesson. Identifying these lessons is crucial. Spend time analyzing what went wrong. For instance, if poor time management led to missing a deadline at work, consider strategies to improve this skill. ____39____ Write about the mistake and the lessons learned. This not only helps you think clearly but also creates a record of your growth. Embrace change and move forward. After releasing guilt and learning from errors, it’s time to embrace change. Set new, realistic goals based on your lessons learned. British humour, in particular, is a fascinating and often puzzling phenomenon for outsiders. It’s a style of comedy that doesn’t always rely on obvious jokes or punchlines (笑点). ____16____ Understanding these key characteristics can make watching a British comedy show a much more enjoyable and less confusing experience. ____17____ For instance, sarcasm, which is a fundamental ingredient, often involves saying the opposite of what one means, with a straight face that makes it tricky to detect. A British person might say, “Lovely weather we’re having,” during a heavy downpour. The humour lies not in the words themselves, but in the shared understanding of the irony (讽刺) between the speaker and the listener. Another defining feature is a love for absurdity and surreal (超现实的) situations. British comedies frequently present characters in unusual, illogical scenarios that unfold in the most unexpected ways. The audience finds itself laughing at the ridiculousness of the dilemma. ____18____ You might see a comedy about a government department solely responsible for handling lost cheese, which is played with seriousness by the actors. Furthermore, self-mockery, the ability to laugh at oneself, is at the heart of British comedy. Unlike cultures where confidence is celebrated, Brits often make themselves the target of the joke. They readily point out their own flaws, failures, and social awkwardness. When a character trips over and then makes a witty remark about their own clumsiness, it’s a classic example of this trait in action. Brits fear being seen as taking themselves too seriously. ____19____ So, the next time you watch a British sitcom, don’t worry if you don’t burst out laughing immediately. Appreciating this unique comedic style requires looking beyond the surface. ____20____ Once you learn to spot the irony, absurdity, and self-mockery, you’ll unlock a rich and wonderfully strange world of comedy that is as clever as it is entertaining. A. The actors’ delivery is always exaggerated. B. Instead, it thrives on irony, absurdity, and self-mockery. C. For one thing, it is deeply rooted in irony and understatement. D. To truly ‘get’ it, you need to tune into its distinctive frequency. E. This form of humour can be traced back to historical class structures. F. Laughing at oneself is considered a virtue and a form of social bonding. G. Celebrating the unreasonable, it finds joy in the breakdown of normal logic. Leisure Focus: Scrapbooking The dictionary defines a scrapbook as “an empty book for collecting and preserving photographs, newspaper articles, and other papers.” ____16____ To learn more about it, we talked with Diane Lucas of Scrapsforever.com. What is scrapbooking, exactly? When I make a scrapbook page, I take a few of my family photos and put them into a “layout”—a page that uses fancy paper, stickers, drawings, and words to show the theme. When you make a scrapbook, you put words and pictures together to show the important times in your life. ____17____ How did you get started? When I was a child, I loved looking at and remembering things like movie tickets and vacation postcards. ____18____ When I looked through his desk, I found the most wonderful things—like my parents’ anniversary cards, and photos from his Army days. We bring our scissors and papers and our boxes of photos. It’s a time for enjoyment, when friends show pictures and tell stories about our families, and our lives. At the same time, we create a book to keep those memories. Why is scrapbooking so popular these days? ____20____ When you make a scrapbook, you can pass the stories to your children and your grandchildren. In the U.S. alone there are 2,500 stores that sell paper and other supplies for scrapbooking. You can find scrapbooking websites from other countries. In fact, it is now carefully designed psychological persuasion. Shopkeepers know how to create an environment that makes customers buy more than they planned. For example, the smell of freshly baked bread can make customers feel hungry and unconsciously increase their desire to buy food. ____16____ Now researchers are investigating how the way people are influenced in their buying decisions can be explained by swarm intelligence. ____17____ If a certain item seems popular, customers naturally believe it is worth buying. With the help of modern technology, some supermarkets now provide real-time purchasing information. As customers walk past shelves, a small screen may tell them how many other shoppers have chosen a certain product. ____18____ This model, known as a “swarm move”, increases sales without offering discounts simply because it makes customers feel confident about choosing what everyone else buys. ____19____ When they are at home, shoppers still tend to follow the crowd online. Websites like Amazon show rankings, recommendations, and“most purchased” tags. Even being alone, they think they are shopping independently, and they are still influenced by others’ choices. All these strategies show that modern consumers are often guided by subtle psychological cues rather than rational decision-making. ____20____ A. The idea behind this approach is simple. B. Thus, it encourages them to put more food into their basket. C. The same psychological strategies also apply to platforms online. D. However, happiness is not the absence of stress, but a sense of controlled progress and inner peace cultivated within the demanding environment. ____36____ Why then should you prioritize the cultivation of happiness? In an age of prevalent stress, actively safeguarding this happiness is essential. Chronic anxiety and burnout impair cognitive function, and even hurt your academic performance. Research confirms that greater happiness is associated with better physical health, stronger resilience, and more fulfilling relationships. ____37____ To achieve this, begin with intentionally designing your daily rhythm. This means scheduling not only study sessions but also breaks. ____38____ These acts are not time wasted; they are strategic resets that prevent mental fatigue and sustain concentration. For instance, a ten-minute walk after a 90-minute study block can significantly clear mental fog, thus improving efficiency in the next session. ____39____ While academic goals are vital, defining your self-worth only by test scores is a fragile foundation. Instead, consciously connecting your daily effort to larger personal growth such as problem-solving skills fosters a better sense of accomplishment. This shift from a purely outcome-based to a process-oriented perspective transforms the journey into a source of satisfaction. In fact, maintaining your own rhythm in senior year is an act of wise self-management. It involves protecting your mental space through structured balance and reframing the purpose of your effort. ____40____ Then, you are empowered to perform at your best when it matters most. A. Perspective is key, too. B. Self-worth also matters. C. You’ll find all your stress disappear without a trace. D. It is a feeling of moving forward at a sustainable pace. E. Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) makes people tend to put things in random places and not remember where they put them. This problem is probably familiar to anyone whose phone is missing a dozen times a day or who can’t find the TV remote until ten minutes after a favorite show has begun. ____36____ Here is some advice about how to cope with the situation caused by misplacing things. When you put something down, say its location. ____37____ You’d say, “I’m setting my mouse to the right of my computer.” And saying that, either in your mind or out loud, focuses your attention on where you put it, upping the odds that you’ll remember its location later. Invest in technology. There are many tools designed to keep track of items. ____38____ There are also objects you can put in your wallet or purse that will ring when you press a button on either another object or a phone app. ____39____ That might mean placing a basket by your front door where you drop your keys and wallet immediately upon entering your home or distributing one drawer as the scissors drawer. Then, at the end of the day, scan the areas where you’ve been, find the items that need to be taken back home, and return them to their spots. The same advice applies to places like your office and car. Take a breath. If you’ve misplaced something, give your brain a minute or two. ____40____ But if you keep beating yourself up about it, you’re less likely to be able to focus and keep track of your possessions. They’re often casual buys when something funny instantly brings a friend or family member to mind. Most gag gifts are not very useful. ____36____ You don’t need a special event to give someone a gag gift. ____37____ The faces of politicians are often found on gag gifts, along with political jokes. Other common designs include cartoon characters, famous funny sayings, and slightly rude jokes. Children often like gag gifts that double as tricks. Some classic examples are an innocent-looking pillow and whoopee cushion. These items have all brought laughs for generations. When to give gag gifts? They can be given when a gift is expected but the recipient is only a nodding acquaintance For example, at an office party for an employee who is leaving, people may be expected to bring a small present even if they don’t know the person well. In this case, a coffee cup with a funny saying works well. ____38____ This adds joy to an otherwise ordinary drinking cup. When giving a gag gift, the giver should make sure the gag will not hurt the recipient’s feelings. ____39____ However, gags highlighting a person’s shortcomings are not a good idea. They may make the person feel uncomfortable. For example, a baldhead cap would be unkind for someone worried about losing his hair; but it could be funny for someone with very thick hair who often complains about it. Gifts given on a serious or public occasion should not be overly rude. ____40____ A. Being useful is often expected. B. But that is not their main purpose. C. Otherwise the recipient may feel offended. D. In this way, the gift appears to be more valuable. E. Gag gifts can be almost anything that is meant for fun. F. When the gift is opened, it may bring a laugh from the crowd. 常见的表示例证关系的标志词语有:for example, for instance, in fact/as a matter of fact, actually, in other words/that is to say等。 表示转折关系的标志词语有: but, however, yet, while/though/although, or/otherwise, on the contrary, instead, nevertheless(然而), still, in contrast/comparison, by comparison等。 因果关系 表示因果关系的标志词语有:so, therefore, thus, consequently(结果), as a result (of), so/such ...that ..., so that ... 表示递进关系的标志词语有:too, also, besides, further, furthermore, moreover, likewise, similarly, what's more, what's worse, in addition, as well, to make matters worse, not ... but ..., not only ... but also等。 并列关系 表示并列关系的标志词语有:and, first(ly), second(ly); first, then/next; to begin with, some ... others ...; for one thing, for another thing; then/next, finally/last等。 A Piggyback Ride from a Stranger Once a year, Bannister climbs to High Rock Lookout where she scattered her mother’s ashes 23 years ago. ___ 36___ Last August, Bannister, then 79, went on her own, figuring she’d be fine because she’s an experienced hiker. She arrived at the trail early and made her way to the lookout. As she headed back down, her foot got caught in a hole in the ground. ___37_ __ When sitting up, she knew immediately she had broken her leg. She cried out for help, and before long, a stranger approached and called 911. When seeing Bannister in extreme pain, they offered to carry her to the bottom of the trail. May eased Bannister onto his back and started hiking downward. He carried her for most of the nearly three-hour journey, and Allen carried her for the rest. “That was just one kindness,” says Bannister. ___39 ___ One, a physical therapist, bandaged Bannister’s foot and built a makeshift splint (夹板) for her leg. The other did breathing exercises with her to help calm her. During the long hike down, her rescuers shared stories to distract her from the mounting pain. When I moved to London, I threw myself into work while my housemates were endlessly trying new things. My automatic “no” to anything that “wasn’t my thing” only kept me trapped in the same daily routine. That left me feeling flat and a little empty. I began to question whether my taste is fixed or could be trained. I once read that children need eight to fifteen tries to accept a new food. __36_ I decided to start small. When a friend invited me to a book club, I resisted the instinct (本能) to dismiss it despite my longstanding dislike of reading and went anyway. ___37___ Now I spend mornings reading physical books instead of wandering aimlessly. Then came music and performance — all things I had previously disregarded. ___38___ Gradually, I became fascinated by the unfamiliar rhythms and movements and felt proud of my survival in the end. ___39___ However, I stopped saying no before I had even begun. Most recently, I tried out my local library’s chess club. I was easily 30 years younger than everyone else, but that didn’t matter. Sitting opposite people with wildly different life stories made me realize how rarely I speak with other generations. We talked about their past careers, local news and new chess moves. Interestingly, I felt more connected there than with people of my age. Research suggests that engaging your curiosity in new activities can help protect against age-related cognitive (认知的) decline. ___40___ Getting outside my comfort zone now gives me a rush. A. Yet, I was eager for engagement. B. I didn’t love everything straight away. C. For me, it is far more than brain health. D. Initially, I was awkward and sometimes confused. E. Shifting to a completely new culture almost always results in a culture shock for all people. ____36____ Some hardly notice its effect at all, while others can find it very difficult to adapt to their new environment. I grew up in a small town in Slovakia, where most of the information I had about America came from its movies, and the purpose of them is always to entertain viewers, while details of American life may not be precisely described. I had imagined a thousand possibilities of what life in America would be like. ___37 ____ Americans find it easy to make casual friends. They become friends first and build trust later if at all. Americans make friends and become relatively close in no time. ___38____ In my culture, we believe in building friendships and staying connected after the trust is built. Only after coming to America did I realize that my self-identification as a reserved person is part of my cultural identity with Slovakian culture. ___39____ Americans find it uncomfortable if others stand too close. When friends or family greet, they give a short hug and step aside to have some distance for conversation. We Slovakian people like to speak sitting or standing close to each other. Also, it’s considered disrespectful to keep a large distance during the conversation. Part of the excitement of living in a new culture is learning about how it differs from my own culture. ____40____ By learning to understand and navigate the culture of another country, I have become a more open-minded person. It has taught me to shape my own cultural identity. A. But it’s easy for them to disappear from one another’s life. B. Different people might experience culture shock differently. C. It is therefore necessary to know how to handle culture shock. D. I always compare my values and customs with those in America. E. Another shocking observation for me was the informality of the Americans. F. American culture is also different from mine in terms of a sense of personal space. G. But I had never expected that I would have a culture shock once I was actually there. Language barriers. Culture shock. Homesickness. These are the things you might worry about before departing to study abroad. ____36____ After a busy year abroad — constantly meeting new people, having new experiences and gaining independence, coming home can feel like an anti-climax Like many other exchange students I found myself living with my parents again after a year abroad. ____37____ At first, I indulged in everything I had always loved about being home: days spent lounging with cups of tea and books, tranquil walks and home-cooked dinners. But once the jetlag subsided (倒过时差), I found myself strangely lacking energy and motivation. Why was I feeling so disconnected? I realized that I had done two things while I was away: I had idealized home in my mind, and I’d expected everything to remain exactly the same while I was gone. But as I immersed myself in a new culture, I quickly adapted to a different way of life. ____38____ Some friendships had become distant while others had become closer together. On top of that, I felt as if I’d changed too. ____39____. My friend, who studied in France, experienced something similar. She says she found herself asking: “How do I fit back into the life I had before when I feel so different?” So it’s hardly surprising that once it’s over, many exchange students feel at a loose end. It seems odd to me that no one at university warns you about this beforehand. Getting a part-time job eventually helped ease my own sense of dissociation, as it gave me the structure I needed. ____40____ Readjusting at home has been harder than life abroad. But as I add some of the things I loved about living abroad to my home life, while realizing that there are some feelings I can’t replace, I’m starting to find a new normal. A. It turned out I wasn’t alone. B. It forced me to reflect on my identity. C. Meanwhile, everyone at home changed. D. It felt like I’d taken several steps backwards. E. Daily routines formed as my language improved. F. But for me, returning home proved the hardest of all. G. Spending more time with family and friends helped too. As the college entrance examination was approaching, I was under great pressure in senior three. In his reply, he told us that every small life should be respected, and we needed to learn to live in harmony with birds while pursuing our dreams. To help us study better, the school prepared thick sound-proof curtains and changed part of our evening self-study time properly. We were moved by the headmaster’s kindness. ____38____ The teacher introduced that these birds were in their breeding period and would leave campus soon. She also told us the importance of protecting wild birds and keeping the ecological balance. My annoyance with the chirps disappeared little by little. One day after class, I went close to the banyan tree to watch the nest. I saw the mother bird flying back and forth with food for her babies. The warm picture made me feel soft in my heart. ____39____ This experience has changed my attitude towards life. ____40____ I finally understood that real growth is not only gaining excellent academic results but also learning to be tolerant, gentle and respectful to all lives around us. This warm memory will stay in my heart forever. A. I lost my focus completely. B. I no longer saw the chirps as noise. C. The headmaster replied to us warmly. D. We attended a special biology lecture. E. It taught me what real growth truly means. F. I tried to find a quiet place to study alone. G. Small and lovely lives deserve our care and protection 8. 25-26 浙江宁波市 高考高三二模模拟考试 My journey with skateboarding began in 1975, and I was immediately hooked (吸引). For my 11th birthday, my father bought me my first board. It had cheap clay wheels that shook, bumped and made much noise. ____36____ This early experience taught me that passion isn’t about having the best equipment, but about the feeling it gives you. Soon enough, I found myself reading every issue of Skateboarder, a popular magazine back then, and our neighborhood was full of kids skating together. ____37____ The sense of shared freedom was transformative, especially for someone who never stood out at traditional team sports. ____38____ At one point, a friend who was a student at York, north of the city, suggested we try the tunnels at the university. Yet, we found them closed, which only pushed me to explore other places — empty parking lots, quiet office parks, and smooth pathways. The joy I got from these experiences never left me. As I grew older, my relationship with skateboarding matured. I created a website called SkateGeezer dedicated to skaters who had ridden in the 1960s, 70s and 80s. ____39____ From there, I eventually built a career in publishing at skateboarding magazines. Now, with a family of my own, that passion rides on. I introduced all my children to skateboarding almost as soon as they could walk. The full-circle moment of seeing my sons surpass my own ability is a pride unlike any other. I know some journeys, when you stick with them, don’t end. ____40____ A. I realized I needed much better equipment. B. They just find new, beautiful paths forward. C. It inspired me to write a book, The Concrete Wave. D. That was when I decided to quit and try other sports. E. Yet, none of that mattered when I felt the freedom of the ride. F. We built skating tracks and spent hours riding down driveways. G. In 1983, my skateboard accompanied me to university in Toronto. Are you able to cook a healthy meal? Are you able to manage your money well? Are you able to sew on a button? ___16___ This highlights a significant gap in modern education, which heavily prioritizes academic achievement and strict testing, often at the expense of practical life skills. Schools have done well in preparing us to be academic achievers in school, but may not have prepared us well enough in developing life skills. ___17 ___ For those without these basic skills, the pandemic lockdown was a rude shock. With restaurants closed and home services stopped, it would have been satisfying to cook a meal or fix a light bulb. It’s a shame that schools produce scholarly individuals who are unprepared for simple home tasks. ___18___ For example, financial management fosters responsibility and caution, while lessons on investment teach wealth growth. Equipped with this literacy, students can better discuss financial goals with parents, and budgeting knowledge can steer them away from overspending. Thus, in our complex world, schools must teach beyond academic subjects. After all, all the responsibility cannot be transferred to the home. The argument for parents teaching practical life skills overlooks modern realities. Many working parents lack the time, and some may not possess the proficiency themselves. ___19___. Sandra Carey, a writer, puts it appropriately: “Never mistake knowledge for wisdom. One helps you make a living; the other helps you make a life.” School is not simply a place to pass knowledge and prepare us for a career. ___20 ___ A. Thus, a balanced approach is needed early on. B. For instance, many communities offer evening classes for adults. C. Instead, it equips us with the wisdom to construct a fulfilling life. D. Not many of us can confidently nod our heads to these questions. E. Consequently, the central role in bridging this gap must fall to our schools. F. By integrating practical skills, schools can teach a more complete set of life values. G. Yet practical skills such as cooking and housekeeping are essential in the real world. Street names help us figure out where we are. This can be understood both literally and metaphorically. Some names, like 125th Street, are just descriptions. But often, streets are named after people, which places us in a historical or political context too. Not far from where my brother lives in north London is a street called Kitchener Road. Just behind the lamp post was an old sign, made of thick iron, bearing the name. ____36 ____ That sign seems to say this person was and still is deserving of recognition. But Kitchener Road reminded me of Britain’s history of colonial (殖民地的) rule, as the Kitchener (1850-1916) was a cruel British military officer across Asia and Africa. Saying street names are markers of history attracts two types of criticism. One is that it’s nothing more than a storm in a teacup. Street names don’t really matter. ____37 ____ But honoring people responsible for killing through street names preserves a celebratory view of that past and normalises it in daily life. So what should we do? ____38____ Another option is the Amsterdam approach. There, a street honoring anti-apartheid (反种族隔离) leader Albert Luthuli has a sign noting: “Formerly: Louis Botha street,” named after a prime minister of colonial South Africa. Where such names remain, people are creating walking tours to provide full context. In Glasgow, a tour was organized to make people know about the city’s role in the enslavement of people. ____39___ It builds thoughtful ways forward locally. Walking away from Kitchener Road, I thought of a different Kitchener: the legendary Trinidadian calypso musician. Upon arriving in England, he sang London is the Place for Me. If Kitchener Road must keep its name, I’d prefer to imagine they honor the “King of Calypso,” not the colonial butcher. ____40____ A. Residents rarely notice the street names. B. My view is that such streets be renamed. C. Perhaps we should consider the evidence. D. Perhaps that is a take-back we can all adopt. E. Another, changing these names erases history. F. This kind of practice is creative response to damaging histories. G. To name a street after a person is a way of honoring their achievements. 3. From the moment humankind first closed its eyes and slipped into the shifting landscapes of sleep, dreams have haunted (萦绕) and fascinated us. At night, images rise uninvited: loved ones long gone, gods who speak in riddles, beasts both feared and admired, and journeys across impossible places. ___36___ They were messages, and visions — a secret language whispered by the universe to the soul. In ancient China, the Zhou Li (Rites of Zhou) and other classical texts describe dream interpretation as a means to predict the future. Dreams were believed to reveal disturbances in the balance of yin and yang, or it could signal harmony restored. For example, a dream of flowing water might symbolize life’s continuity. ___37___ One of the most famous dream passages in Chinese philosophy comes from Zhuangzi. He once dreamed he was a butterfly. Upon waking, he questioned whether he was a man who dreamed he was a butterfly or a butterfly now dreaming he was a man. ___38___ It vividly captured the Chinese view of dreams as a space which is a mix of reality and illusion (错觉). ___39___ Researchers in neuroscience explain dreams as patterns of brain activity, memory processing, and emotional regulation. REM (rapid eye movement) sleep, where most vivid dreaming occurs, is now understood as crucial for learning and psychological balance. Sigmund Freud suggested dreams were wish-fulfillments; Carl Jung saw them as messages from the collective unconscious. Though modernity explains dreams with science, it cannot remove their poetic charm. We are still dreamers, still seekers, still interpreters of the night’s riddles. ___40___ We walk with gods, with ancestors, with the timeless mysteries of existence. A. This dream has been retold for centuries. B. Likewise, broken objects could warn of trouble. C. To the ancients, dreams were never meaningless. D. How dreams are interpreted varies from culture to culture. E. Today, science throws light on the distinct roles of dreams. F. The ancients remind us that even in sleep, we are not alone. G. Dreams are inspirations that prepare us for real-life challenges. The Joy of Dictionaries I still remember feeling let down upon learning that words carry hidden meanings beyond their dictionary definitions. As a youngster, I saw learning as a task to be completed, and these fine distinctions felt like obstacles._______36_______This set me free to read for pleasure, guided by curiosity rather than a desire to know everything. I began to see dictionaries as field guides to language — not as signs of failure, but as gateways to discovery. I treasure my 1954 Webster’s dictionary, which I keep open on a table. I often consult it while reading. When I encounter new words repeatedly — in articles, books, or conversations — the world of language suddenly feels smaller and more familiar. _______37_______They turn my attention outward and make me wonder what else I’ve failed to notice. For example, I recently learned “orrery” — a mechanical model of the solar system. It’s not particularly useful, but deeply satisfying. Unlike the endless things that take your attention away on the internet, a dictionary offers focus._______38_______Looking up a word feels like solving a small mystery — an instant reward for curiosity. Dictionaries reconnect us with the pure, childlike urge to know things, before learning became a duty. They have also evolved over time. Samuel Johnson’s 1755 dictionary had 40,000 entries; today’s Oxford English Dictionary contains over 400,000._______39_______ Noah Webster saw his American dictionary as an act of patriotism, helping shape a national identity separate from England. Though sometimes seen as restrictive, dictionaries don’t create language — people do. The word “dilettante,” for instance, once simply meant “one who delights in the arts.” ______40______They remind us that paying attention and following our wonder are what truly connect us to the world beyond the immediate. A. Dictionaries sharpen my awareness. B. Years later, I recognized their definitions. C. Increasing vocabulary seemed significant. D. It uses simple words to explain complex ones. E. To me, dictionaries represent curiosity-driven learning. F. It was only after college that I realized knowledge is limitless. G. This growth shows how language can never be fully contained. It is surprising that the people we love most are often the hardest to be emotionally honest with. As a therapist, I meet many clients who can express their frustrations freely towards friends, yet become highly reserved when discussing family issues. ____16____ They tend to highlight their parents’ sacrifices and hide their own unpleasant feelings. This emotional suppression (压抑) stems not from the emotions themselves, but from the moral meanings attached to them. Many families are influenced by traditional values like respect for elders and family harmony. As a result, people often soften their feelings, justify their parents’ behavior, and remind themselves that their parents “did their best.” ____17____ Many adults hold conflicting emotions — gratitude and resentment, love and disappointment — yet feel forced to deny these complexities. ____18____ Western psychology often praises emotional independence and clear personal boundaries as healthy. However, in many other cultures, personal identity is deeply rooted in family relationships. Parental emotions strongly influence their children even in adulthood, and such emotional closeness is regarded as a normal expression of care and responsibility rather than unhealthy dependence. As people mature, they begin to see parents as imperfect individuals shaped by their own struggles and limitations. This shift can be relieving but also uncomfortable, as acknowledging parental weaknesses may feel unacceptable in traditional contexts. ____19____ In working through these feelings, one grows more understanding — of oneself and of one’s parents. Grieving (为……而悲伤) unmet needs does not destroy love but clarifies it. ____20____ Instead, it means we can hold love, gratitude and hurt in the same relationship and make our family emotional story more complete. A. They seldom show their real emotions to others. B. Emotional maturity lies not in separating from family. C. Cultural differences in family boundaries further complicate this issue. D. It is strongly advised that people hide their negative feelings towards parents. E. Most people find it easy to balance loyalty and honesty in family relationships. F. This is not indifference but an attempt to protect the precious parent-child bond. G. However, accepting this helps let go of unrealistic expectations and gain inner freedom. We are living through a sustained mental-health crisis. Anxiety, depression, and burnout have reached levels unseen in modern surveys, and the effects are spreading through workplaces, classrooms, and homes. ___36___ But sometimes, moments of peace come in unexpected ways. Every Thanksgiving, when families gather to share what they’re grateful for, something powerful happens in the brain. The simple act of giving thanks changes how we feel, how we think, and even how our brains work. ___37___ Social media floods our minds with images that cause envy and self-doubt, keeping our nervous systems in a chronic (长期的) state of stress. However, the solution isn’t complicated. Gratitude is the simple key that can help calm the chaos inside us. When we focus on what’s right in our lives instead of what’s wrong, we quiet the emotional centers of the brain and strengthen the judgment and decision-making areas. ___38___ Research has found that people who regularly express thankfulness are physically healthier, more optimistic, and better at achieving their goals. They sleep better, experience less stress, and enjoy deeper relationships. That’s not because they say “thank you” more often, it’s because they live with a mindset of appreciation. Gratitude isn’t just good manners; it’s good neuroscience. ___39___ It reminds us that even in hardship, there’s something to be thankful for. Like all good habits, this doesn’t happen overnight. Gratitude is something we cultivate (培养) one intentional practice at a time. That might mean unplugging for a few hours to rest and reset, journaling about what went right in your day, or taking a moment to tell someone you appreciate them. ___40___ A. It’s important to set aside time for self-reflection. B. For many, these struggles can feel overwhelming. C. In other words, gratitude helps balance our brains. D. These small acts retrain your brain toward positivity. E. Mental health problems are often overlooked by society. F. It shifts our focus from what’s missing to what’s meaningful. G. Allow them to lead discussions and meetings to develop their communication skills.(要求听众贡献自己的想法,或参与向他人解释新的概念和政策。 G.As the speaker, you already know what you’re going to say. __ D __39____ Voos said football players at training camp might do a lot of conditioning one day, then work on flexibility and balance the next, then move onto strength training, all of which is intermixed with playing football. But it’s important to work all of your muscle groups each week, if possible, to strengthen them all. A. However, the children who don’t specialize tend to be healthier. B. This is a period of time when progress in your favored sport stops. C. They also note that varying your exercises can prevent overuse injuries. D. But adults and even professional athletes need to vary their routines, too. E. Cross-training lets your body see all of those different movements each week. F. ___ G _39____ Write about the mistake and the lessons learned. This not only helps you think clearly but also creates a record of your growth. Embrace change and move forward. After releasing guilt and learning from errors, it’s time to embrace change. Set new, realistic goals based on your lessons learned. This could be as simple as committing to improving a specific skill within three months. ____40_ E ___ For example, if you want to enhance your decision-making skills, practice making small, low-risk decisions daily. This will build your confidence over time. A. Practice mindfulness. B. Let go of guilt and shame. C. Everyone messes up at some point. D. Easier said than done though, right? E. Consider adopting supportive habits. F. Life is a mixture of pleasure and pain. G. Journaling can be a useful tool for this. 【36题详解】 上文“Instead of getting lost in regret, it’s crucial to learn how to heal and grow from those experiences.(与其沉浸在后悔中,不如学会如何从这些经历中治愈和成长)”提出要从错误中自愈成长,下文“Here are the tips you can try the next time you want to forgive yourself.(以下是你下次想要原谅自己时可以尝试的技巧)”引出具体建议,空处承上启下,前后语义形成转折,说明道理易懂但实操困难。 【37题详解】 上文“It’s vital to remember that making mistakes is a normal part of being human.(重要的是要记住,犯错是人类正常的一部分)”提及犯错很正常,空处和前文为解释顺接关系,呼应人类都会犯错的共性。 【38题详解】 下文“Releasing guilt and shame is essential for healing. These negative feelings can trap you in a loop of self-blame. To break free, start by reflecting on your mistake and its consequences. Self-compassion is key. Treat yourself as you would treat a friend who made a similar mistake. Remind yourself that everyone fails and that your past actions do not define your worth. 【39题详解】 上文“For instance, if poor time management led to missing a deadline at work, consider strategies to improve this skill.(例如,如果时间管理不善导致错过工作截止日期,考虑采取策略来提高这项技能)”说明可以通过写日记来分析错误,空处和前文为递进关系,引出记录反思的方式。 【40题详解】 上文“This could be as simple as committing to improving a specific skill within three months.(这可能很简单,比如在三个月内致力于提高一项特定技能)”说明要设定目标并致力于提高技能,下文“For example, if you want to enhance your decision-making skills, practice making small, low-risk decisions daily. This will build your confidence over time.(例如,如果你想提高你的决策能力,每天练习做出小而低风险的决定。 When it comes to humour, every culture has its own unique flavour. B 17. C 18. G 19. F 20. 【16题详解】 根据上文“It’s a style of comedy that doesn’t always rely on obvious jokes or punchlines. 以及下文“Understanding these key characteristics can make watching a British comedy show a much more enjoyable and less confusing experience. 可知,上文说英式幽默不总是依赖明显的笑话或笑点,下文则提到了解关键特征的好处,B选项“Instead, it thrives on irony, absurdity, and self-mockery. 【17题详解】 根据下文“For instance, sarcasm, which is a fundamental ingredient, often involves saying the opposite of what one means, with a straight face that makes it tricky to detect. 可知,本段主要介绍英式幽默以讽刺和轻描淡写为特点,C选项“For one thing, it is deeply rooted in irony and understatement. 【18题详解】 根据上文“Another defining feature is a love for absurdity and surreal situations. British comedies frequently present characters in unusual, illogical scenarios that unfold in the most unexpected ways. The audience finds itself laughing at the ridiculousness of the dilemma. 可知,本段主要介绍英式幽默的荒诞性,G选项“Celebrating the unreasonable, it finds joy in the breakdown of normal logic. 可知,本段主要介绍英式幽默的自我嘲笑,F选项“Laughing at oneself is considered a virtue and a form of social bonding. 【20题详解】 根据上文“So, the next time you watch a British sitcom, don’t worry if you don’t burst out laughing immediately. 可知,上文说欣赏英式幽默需要超越表面,下文则提到学会发现英式幽默的特点就能打开喜剧世界,D选项“To truly ‘get’ it, you need to tune into its distinctive frequency. I couldn’t throw away anything, so I made two scrapbooks, for my brother and me. ____19____ Oh, yes! We call ourselves “scrappers,” and we love to have big parties where we work on our scrapbooks. D. This method reassures shoppers that they are making the“right” choice. E. People may not notice, but they are constantly being guided while shopping. F. E. She usually hikes with someone along the 3.2-mile trail. Last August, Bannister, then 79, went on her own, figuring she'd be fine because she's an experienced hiker. "It's steep so it's considered a hard hike, but because I've done it so many times, I wasn't nervous about it," says Bannister, who lives in Tacoma. She arrived at the trail at around 11 a.m. and made her way to the lookout. As she headed back down, her foot got caught in a hole in the ground. She fell forward. "By the time I sat up, my foot was pointing the wrong way. I knew right away I had broken my leg," Bannister says. She cried out for help, and before long, a stranger approached and called 911. They were told a search and rescue team would arrive in five hours. "It wasn't very encouraging," Bannister says. "I asked this man to please ask anybody if they had painkillers, because at that point, the pain was pretty substantial." No one in the vicinity did. But two young men came over to see what was going on. When they saw Bannister on the ground in agony, they immediately made an offer: They could carry Bannister to the bottom of the trail. Troy May, a U.S. Air Force Airman stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, was at the lookout that day with his fiancée and his friend Layton Allen, who was visiting from New Mexico. "I knew I was capable of carrying her down," said May, then 20. "I really didn't make much of a decision, I just knew I needed to carry her down if I could." May made a spontaneous proposal. "I said, 'I'll piggyback you down,'" May told TODAY.com. "I was already going there." The group of strangers worked together to hoist Bannister onto May's back. To keep Bannister secure and to lessen the weight on his back, May wore a backpack on his chest and Bannister slipped her legs through the shoulder straps. May eased Bannister onto his back and started hiking downward. He carried her for most of the nearly three-hour journey, and his friend, Layton Allen, carried her for the rest. Others pitched in as well: Shortly into the hike, May, who was wearing cowboy boots, got blisters on the bottom of one foot. A man on the trail saw the situation and gave May his shoes, then continued on in his socks. "That was just one kindness," says Bannister. A couple hiking that day also lent a hand. One, a physical therapist, bandaged Bannister's foot and built a makeshift splint for her leg out of wooden scraps. The other, an occupational therapist, did breathing exercises with her to help calm her. "I was just overwhelmed with gratitude that these people literally came out of the woods to help me and they were totally unselfish and kind," she said. For encouragement, the group exchanged life stories during the hours-long walk down the mountain. Her rescuers shared stories and asked Bannister about her own life to distract her from the mounting pain. She told them about her childhood in Germany, and what it was like to move to the United States in 1959 when she was 14. "She had a bunch of cool stories," said May. "We were trying to keep her talking to make the hike go faster … we really had quite the team." Their efforts to distract her worked, Bannister said. "If I didn't focus on my pain, I didn't scream quite as loudly," she says. "I think we were all just giving each other psychological support." Once they reached the parking lot, Allen drove Bannister to Tacoma General Hospital—about two hours away—and May followed them in his car. They waited at the hospital until Bannister's son arrived. At the hospital, Bannister learned that she had broken her leg in three places—her tibia, fibula and heel bone. "The emergency team was very impressed by the splint that the therapist had built," says Bannister, adding that doctors told her the damage likely would have been worse had she waited longer to get medical attention. She arrived home that night at 1 a.m. with crutches and had to wait a week for the swelling to go down before she could undergo surgery. "I am now the proud owner of 11 screws … and a titanium plate in my leg," Bannister said. During her recovery, the people who helped her hike down from High Rock Lookout have checked in several times—including May, who received an Air Force Achievement Medal on Sept. 9 for helping to rescue Bannister. "I think we'll be friends for a really long time," Bannister says. Although breaking her leg was painful and unpleasant, the extent to which strangers rallied around her made it a positive experience, overall. "That totally outweighed the broken leg," she said. For most of my life, I always treated taste as fixed. 【16题详解】 根据后文“It was hosted by Li Bo, a popular female comedian who has over 13 million followers on Douyin. During the interactive part, Fang gave a quick-witted (机智的), humorous answer that stole the show. 【17题详解】 根据前文“During the interactive part, Fang gave a quick-witted, humorous answer that stole the show. 以及后文“Stand-up comedy then became Fang’s way to release emotions. 【19题详解】 根据前文“Tan Xiaohong, the show’s producer, initially doubted if Fang could keep her magic in later rounds. 【20题详解】 根据前文“Fang’s path to comedy wasn’t easy. She quit middle school due to poverty and did various jobs to support her family. 以及后文“She once bombed at open mic events and worked as a theater hand to make ends meet. However, she kept going. 5. 25-26 湖南长沙市湖南师大附中 高三英语模拟卷(二) Relocating from one country to another is exciting, but it is also a challenging experience. These are the things you might worry about before departing to study abroad. ____36_ F ___ After a busy year abroad — constantly meeting new people, having new experiences and gaining independence, coming home can feel like an anti-climax Like many other exchange students I found myself living with my parents again after a year abroad. ____37_ D ___ At first, I indulged in everything I had always loved about being home: days spent lounging with cups of tea and books, tranquil walks and home-cooked dinners. ____38__ C __ Some friendships had become distant while others had become closer together. Getting a part-time job eventually helped ease my own sense of dissociation, as it gave me the structure I needed. ____40_ G ___ Readjusting at home has been harder than life abroad.
