Last November, China’s space station welcomed some special“astronauts”— four black mice . They stayed on the space station for two weeks before returning to the Earth. This marked the first time China had sent mice to our space station.
▲ That’s because they have several advantages. First, they share a high genetic (基因的)similarity with humans. Besides, they are small and have a short reproductive (繁殖) period. These traits(特点) make mice perfect for studying how living things grow and develop in space.
These tiny“astronauts” passed many tests to get their“tickets to space”. Much like human astronauts, they were chosen from a pool of 300 mice based on their physical fitness and ability to stand up to the zero-gravity environment. In a test, scientists hung them upside down to see how they behaved. Only those who fought back and stayed active could pass. They also did maze (迷宫) tests. The mice had to find food in a maze, which showed how well they could remember things and find their way in weightless conditions. After 60 days of testing, only 48 made it to the list. Finally, four mice that performed the best in all the tests got the chance to go to space.
After the mice returned to the Earth, scientists studied their health conditions and behaviour. This research is very important for finding out whether humans can live in space in the long term. The findings could also help with human health. Overall, this is a big step forward in China’s space science research.

A. To train them to find food quickly.
B. To see if they could stay active in space.
C. To check their memory and direction-finding ability.
D. To test their ability to live in a zero-gravity environment.
( )14. Why does the writer mention some numbers in the third paragraph?
A. To show the choice was strict. B. To explain the tests were easy.

Oceans are important to our planet, but in many places sea life is in danger. Marine (海洋的) nature reserves can help protect the ocean environment, resources and biodiversity(生物多样性). On September10,2025, China set up the Huangyan Island National Nature Reserve in the South China Sea.
The reserve lies in Sansha, Hainan. Its main purpose is to protect the coral reef ecosystem, which supports many kinds of sea animals and plants. China pays great attention to ocean protection. Efforts such as guarding ecological routes, raising species protection levels, and doing scientific research have worked well. By the end of 2024, China had built more than 350 marine-protected areas, including 14national ones. About 28,000 sea species have been recorded in China—— around 11% of all known sea species worldwide.
According to a report in 2024, the Huangyan Island area has good environmental quality. However,.its coral reefs, fish and ecosystem are in great danger because of uncontrolled illegal fishing activities in nearby waters. Overfishing has destroyed large areas of coral habitats(栖息地), and some fishing boats even throw waste into the sea, causing water pollution. Whats worse, rising sea temperatures in recent years have also had a bad effect on the local ecosystem.
Setting up this reserve is very important for protecting the Huangyan Island area. The reserve will effectively guard the local coral reefs and marine life against damage from illegal fishing and pollution. It ll also help balance the marine ecosystem and ensure the long-term health of the regions waters.

第二节阅读下面短文,并从方框里的六个句子中选择五个还原到原文,使原文的意思连贯、完整。(共5小题,每小题2分)
A. This discovery is very important.
B. It can actually help them develop their Maths skills.
C. In fact, 12 children never used their fingers in the study.
D. Many parents paid attention to the results of the study.
E. Most of them stopped using their fingers when they were 6.
F. They recorded whether the kids used their fingers to add numbers together.
If young kids are asked to add numbers together, they will probably count on their fingers to find the answer. Some parents may get annoyed by their children’s behaviour and try to stop them. But a new study has found this behaviour is helpful to children.(26)
Researchers followed around 200 children from age 4 to age 7. Every six months, they checked the kids adding skills and finger use one by one.(27) They also recorded whether it was a new habit of the kids or something they had been doing for some time.
In the study, almost all the children were found to use their fingers to do calculations at some point.(28) These children were also found to be better at Maths one year later.
This new study suggests that there is a close connection between early finger use and better Maths skills.(29) That’s because researchers carried out a lot of studies in the past. But the results showed children who didn’t use their fingers did better at Maths.(30)
They did badly in Maths when they were 7. And the children who started using their fingers at the age of 6 did worse than those who used fingers from a young age.
So next time you see your younger brothers or sisters count with their fingers, don’t stop them. For their Maths skills in the future, you should encourage them instead.
