B篇【答案】24.A 25.B 26.D 27.C
根据文章第二段中的“The campus was still quiet when I arrived, so I decided to explore a bit.(当我到达的时候,校园还很安静,所以我决定去探索一下)”可知,作者到达学校时进行了小范围的探索。故选A。
I tried to turn on my brain but the engine just wouldn’t start.(什么?
根据倒数第二段Mr Meng最后所说的话“Challenges like this might sometimes put you under pressure. But it all depends on what you do.(这样的挑战有时会给你带来压力。
根据第一段“After I had pictured it over and over again in my mind, the big day finally arrived: my first day at senior high! I woke up early and rushed out of the door in my eagerness to get to know my new school.(在我脑海里一遍又一遍地描绘之后,重要的一天终于到来了:我上高中的第一天!
B 29. C 30. A 31. D
第一段说,晚上十点后用手机超过两小时的学生“went to sleep almost an hour later”且“felt sleepy in class four mornings a week”。
第二段明确写道 “Bright light tells the brain that the day is still going on, so the body waits before it feels ready to rest”。故选 C。
故选 A。
D篇【答案】32.D 33.B 34.D 35.A
根据第三段中的“Participants in the study were tested under three different conditions: in a quiet environment, while listening to music they liked, and while listening to music they didn’t like. The participants generally did better when they were working in silence.(研究参与者在三种不同环境下接受测试:安静环境、听喜欢的音乐、听不喜欢的音乐。
根据第六段中的“He also suggested that Mozart’s music could help brain development. Later experiments suggested it might enhance children’s spatial (空间的) intelligence, leading to a widespread belief that classical music could improve a child’s IQ.
根据第七段中的“Another study seemed to further contradict the idea that music could help with concentration. The researchers found that surveyed university students mostly preferred studying in silence. Those listening to music preferred instrumental songs, saying that lyrics are annoying.(另一项研究似乎进一步反驳了音乐有助于集中注意力的观点。
根据第八段中的“So, if you’re studying for an exam, turn off your music!(所以,如果你正在备考,关掉你的音乐!)” 故选 A。
【答案】36.F 37.A 38.E 39.G 40.C
36.根据前文“Repetition, the act of doing something again and again, is a foundation of learning and skill development.(重复,即一次次做某事的行为,是学习和技能培养的基础。)”和后文“so from childhood, we are taught to keep practicing, keep trying, and keep improving.(因此从童年起,我们就被教导要不断练习、不断尝试、不断进步。)”
37.根据后文“Task repetition is a key to transforming short-term memories into long-term memories. Learning and speaking a new language illustrate the process. Repetition helps to strengthen new ideas and behaviors in your mind, making them more familiar and easier to recall.(任务重复是将短期记忆转化为长期记忆的关键。 故选A项。
As you repeat something over and over again, it allows you to act on it without conscious effort. When you’re learning to play an instrument or do a sport, repetition is key for building muscle memory.(重复养成习惯。
Familiarity is the basic source of psychological and social stability.(重复带来熟悉感。 和后文“This is why repeated experiences, such as drinking coffee or listening to music, often make us more enjoyable over time.(这就是为什么重复的经历,比如喝咖啡或听音乐,往往会让我们随着时间的推移感到更愉悦。)”可知,空格处应说明熟悉感与喜爱之间的关系,G选项“The more we are familiar with something, the more we like it(我们对某事物越熟悉,就越喜欢它)”承接前文“熟悉感”,解释了后文“重复经历更愉悦”的原因,符合语境。故选G项。
和后文“But you are more likely to enjoy something the second time around than you think. As repeating things can be considered as another opportunity to experience something fully, such as seeing things that you didn’t see the first time around.(但你第二次喜欢某样东西的可能性比你想象的要大。 可知,空格处应先提及第一次的新鲜感,与后文“第二次的体验”形成对比,C选项“Things are usually fresh the first time(事情通常第一次是新鲜的)”中的“the first time”与后文“the second time around”呼应,通过“but”转折突出重复带来的新体验,符合语境。故选C项。

Dear Tom,
You wrote that you are suffering from huge pressure and can’t sleep well after entering senior high school. I understand quite well that you are anxious and feel upset. You think that your bad condition has greatly influenced your normal study and daily life.
I recommend that you adjust your state properly. It is not unusual for high school students to face study pressure. But too much stress and poor sleep are unhealthy and make it very difficult to focus on study. I think you should take regular exercise to relax yourself. Besides, you can arrange your study time reasonably to avoid unnecessary pressure. Why not share your troubles with your parents or teachers? I am sure they will give you useful advice and comfort you.
Hope you can get out of the trouble soon.
Yours,
Li Hua
Dear Tom,
I can understand your feelings, but it’s common for teenagers of your age to face such pressure and challenges. The following tips may help you.
Firstly, talk to someone who you trust about how you feel and what you’re confused about, which can help reduce your pressure and get expert advice. Besides, I recommend that you focus on other activities, because they can attract and distract your attention and in turn ease your pressure. In addition, working out a schedule is a better solution to time management.
I hope you’ll find my advice useful, and look forward to your good news.

After I had pictured it over and over again in my mind, the big day finally arrived: my first day at senior high! I woke up early and rushed out of the door in my eagerness to get to know my new school.
The campus was still quiet when I arrived, so I decided to explore a bit. I was looking at the photos on the noticeboard when I heard a voice behind me. “New here?” Turning around, I saw a white-haired man. “Yes,” I replied. “I’m wondering what life is going to be like here.” “Don’t worry,” he gave me a smile. “You’ll soon find out.”
How true these words were! When my English teacher stepped into the classroom, I was surprised to see the same man I had met earlier.
“Good morning, everyone. Before we start, please come to the front one by one and introduce yourself to the class. I’ll go first...”
“What?” I tried to turn on my brain but the engine just wouldn’t start. “I should say my name, of course. But what else? What could I say to make a good first impression? Something about my insect collection, perhaps.” I was organizing my words in my head when the girl next to me gave me a nudge. “It’s your turn!”
With butterflies in my stomach, I breathed deeply. “Hi, I’m Meng Hao.” Everyone started laughing. I looked at them in panic. “Nice to know we share the same name,” said my new teacher. I had been too nervous to pay attention when he introduced himself! Although I was embarrassed, his words made me a lot more relaxed!
When we had all introduced ourselves, Mr Meng said, “Well done, everyone! I know this isn’t easy for many of you. But this is just the kind of thing you are going to face at senior high. Challenges like this might sometimes put you under pressure. But it all depends on what you do. Keep calm and be prepared. That way, you’ll make the most of your time at senior high.”
People say, “Well begun, half done.” I guess this was a good beginning to my new school life.

A. He forgot his name. B. He didn’t know what to say.
C. The other students were laughing at him. D. His teacher was watching him closely.
26.What can we infer from Mr Meng’s words at the end of the passage?

Many senior high students know the feeling: you lie in bed at eleven, decide to check your phone “for five minutes”, and the next time you look up it is one o’clock. A recent study of 1,200 students in Jiangsu found that those who used their phones for more than two hours after ten in the evening went to sleep almost an hour later than the others, and felt sleepy in class four mornings a week.
Why is this? Doctors say there are two reasons. The first is the light from the screen. Bright light tells the brain that the day is still going on, so the body waits before it feels ready to rest. The second is what the students are doing. Games, short videos and group chats keep the mind excited; even after the phone is put away, the brain is still busy with what it has just seen.
Li Lan, a school doctor in Nanjing, has noticed something else. “The students who sleep least are not always the ones who study most,” she says. “They are the ones who never plan their evening.” In her school, students who wrote down a simple plan — homework first, then twenty minutes of phone time, then bed — reported falling asleep about thirty minutes earlier after only three weeks.
Dr Li does not ask students to give up their phones. “A phone is not an enemy,” she says. “It is simply a bad companion at bedtime.” Her advice is practical: leave the phone outside the bedroom, or at least out of arm’s reach, and do something quiet for ten minutes before lying down — reading a few pages, or writing down the three things you want to do tomorrow.
28. What did the study of 1,200 students find?
A. Most students go to bed after one o’clock.
B. Late phone users slept later and felt sleepy in class.

A. It hurts the eyes of young people. B. It makes the phone too hot to hold.
C. It tells the brain the day is still on. D. It makes the screen too bright to see.
30. What does Li Lan’s finding suggest about the students who sleep least?
A. They need help planning their time. B. They seldom use phones at night.
C. They study harder than their classmates. D. They always stay up past midnight.
31. What does the underlined phrase “out of arm’s reach” in the last paragraph mean?

Can music help you concentrate at work? Researchers from the University of Wales Institute in Cardiff conducted a new study, and it has some interesting results.
The research examined the ability of 25 people, aged 18 to 30, to remember information while listening to various sounds. In one task they had to remember a list of eight consonant (辅音) letters, which were read to them.
Participants in the study were tested under three different conditions: in a quiet environment, while listening to music they liked, and while listening to music they didn’t like. The participants generally did better when they were working in silence. The background music seemed to make memorization and recall more difficult. However, scientists also found that listening to music before doing the tests seemed to help concentration.
“Despite describing their self-selected music as more pleasant, their performance was poor, just as it was when they listened to music they disliked,” explained one of the researchers. So, even if you’re listening to music you like, it’ll still get in the way of your work.
This would appear to go against the findings of scientists who have researched what is popularly known as the “Mozart Effect”. This concept was invented by French scientist Dr. Alfred A. Tomatitis in 1991. Tomatitis published a book, Why Mozart?, which described what he believed were the healing powers of listening to Mozart’s music.
He also suggested that Mozart’s music could help brain development. Later experiments suggested it might enhance children’s spatial (空间的) intelligence, leading to a widespread belief that classical music could improve a child’s IQ. The governor of the state of Georgia even once supported spending over $100,000 annually to supply classical CDs to every newborn in the state.
Another study seemed to further contradict the idea that music could help with concentration. The researchers found that surveyed university students mostly preferred studying in silence. Those listening to music preferred instrumental songs, saying that lyrics (歌词) are annoying.
So, if you’re studying for an exam, turn off your music!
32.Under which condition did participants perform best in the University of Wales study?
A.Enjoying their favorite music. B.Listening to disliked music.
C.Playing music after the memory task. D.Working in a quiet environment.
33.What led to the popularity of the “Mozart Effect”?
A.The government’s generous support.
B.Its connection with children’s intelligence.
C.Its power to cure IQ-related diseases.
D.The influence brought by a scientist’s book.
34.Why does the writer mention the survey of university students in Paragraph 7 ?
A. To compare ways of using music B. To prove music’s healing power.
C. To show students’ preference in music. D.To add evidence against music for focus.
35.What is the author’s attitude to studying to music during exam preparation?
A.Negative. B.Neutral. C.Supportive. D.Uninterested.
