What do you usually do on the train? Rest, look out of the window or just use your phone? Some trains in China are now becoming places to learn about Chinese culture (文化).
On the K7041 train from Harbin to Mohe, tourists had a chance to meet five Oroqen (鄂伦春族) artists. Gulayier Ente, one of the artists, dressed in traditional clothes and sang Oroqen songs. The beautiful music made people cheerful. “This experience is wonderful. Chatting with tourists helped us all enjoy ourselves,” said Gulayier.
The train started running in January 2025 to celebrate the Chinese New Year. During the journey, artists showed their skills like making birch bark (桦树皮) paintings besides singing and dancing. “We can watch special shows and learn about Chinese culture. It’s really exciting!” said Ms. Zhang, a tourist from Guizhou.
In fact, there are more Chinese art shows on trains, including Qinhuai lanterns from Nanjing and tea-picking operas (采茶戏) from Guangxi, and so on. Trains go across most of China, so they are great for sharing Chinese culture with more people. Different from museums, trains can bring cultural experiences directly to people.
However, there are still some challenges. For example, the space on trains is small, and people get on and off at each station. Train workers need to work harder to integrate (融入) Chinese culture into train journeys.

Mr. Pedersen, a Danish (丹麦的) traveler, finished a trip around the world successfully. But this wasn’t an easy trip. He spent almost 10 years visiting every country in the world.
Mr. Pedersen began his round-the-world trip on October 10th, 2013. He made a few rules for himself: no flying, no visiting home, and spending at least (至少) 24 hours in every country. He thought that he would finish his trip in about four years. But in fact, it took much longer than he expected.
Mr. Pedersen experienced a lot of hard times during the trip. He traveled by taxi, by bus, by train, and even on foot. To cross large bodies of water, he took boats and spent days, even months, on them. Sometimes it was hard to find a boat. And sometimes, he had to stay on a boat for days because of bad weather.
Luckily, Mr. Pedersen also had many good experiences. He said that he got lots of help from people all over the world. That’s one of the reasons why he didn’t give up.
“You might have to knock on 1,000 closed doors,” he said, “but there is always an open door somewhere. Never give up.” Finally, in May, after almost ten years of travel, Mr. Pedersen successfully reached his last country, the Maldives (马尔代夫). ①Teenagers will finally grow up someday, leaving their parents and facing the problems in life, so they should learn life skills and have good working habits.
②The government (政府) is trying to pay attention to the hard-working spirit education (教育). But many teenagers overlook it today. They do not understand the importance of working hard. There is a teenage girl named Nancy. She never helps out around the house. Last year, her mother was on vacation for a week and left her at home. When her mother came home from vacation, she could not find a clean dish or a clean shirt.
③Schools are important in teaching students to work hard. Primary and middle schools should have hard-working spirit lessons every week. To our joy, in some schools, each class has a field to plant their favourite vegetables. For example, No.38 Middle School in Hefei has a 50-square-metre farm on the top of the classroom building. The school asks each class to grow and pick vegetables there.

To our joy, some schools provide each class with a small place outside to plant their favourite vegetables. For example, No. 38 Middle School in Hefei set up a 500-square-metre farm on an open platform (露天平台) of its teaching building. Each class is asked to grow and pick vegetables there.

Some parents think children should play a lot in their childhood. However, some parents think children should learn more useful things. They teach their children to do chores by themselves early. What are chores? Chores are things we need to do every day, like washing the dishes and sweeping the floor. Here are some benefits (益处) that helping out with chores will bring to children.
First, doing chores teaches children life skills (技能). Children will need to do many hard things by themselves one day, so they should learn more life skills as early as possible. Doing chores like cooking, feeding pets, and cleaning the house can help them become more independent and teach them how to solve problems.
Second, doing chores helps children learn to respect (尊重) others. If children are asked to clean up the house, they may know better about the mess they make. And they will respect others’ work more.
Third, doing chores helps children be better at making plans and organizing their time. There are a lot of things to do every day, and it’s hard to fit them all in. Do you have some friends you call as soon as you have exciting news to share? Or the ones who notice when you’re feeling down? Those are your close friends. Not every friend you have is a close friend— and that’s okay.
Studies show that most people can have only a few close friends because of limited time and energy. Psychologist (心理学家) Robin Dunbar points out that most people have around five close friends. Another study by Suzanne Degges-White finds that having three to six close friends makes people happiest. It also finds that having more than six close friends doesn’t make people feel much happier.
But friendships aren’t just about closeness. According to a study by Jan Yager, you might have25 or more casual friends, like classmates, neighbours, or other people you know from everyday life. Because no one person can meet all your needs, having different kinds of friends helps in many ways. They can take some pressure off you and provide a safety net when you lose important friends. What’s more, they can also come up with new ideas— some may surprise you.
There are no hard and fast rules on how many close or casual friends you should have, so don’t worry if you have more or less. Some people have more than ten close friends, while others are happy with just one or two. What matters most is how you feel. If you’re happy with your friendships, then you have enough. Just trust your own feelings.

3.What are the good points of having different kinds of friends?
①You can feel less pressure. ②You can get some surprising ideas.
③You can get different support and help. ④You can make sure you won’t lose close friends.
A.①②③ B.①②④ C.①③④ D.②③④

Lightning usually destroys (破坏) the trees it hits. But scientists have found an amazing tree. It not only lives through lightning strikes (击中) but actually grows better because of them!
For years, scientists thought lightning was only bad for trees. But as they explored places like the Amazon rainforest, they started to think there could be trees that fight against lightning. It wasn’t until about 100 years ago that such “super trees” were discovered. Now, they know of a tree that uses lightning’s power to kill nearby trees and get more sunlight and nutrients (营养) for itself.
In 2015, scientist Evan Gora saw a Dipteryx oleifera tree, which had been struck by strong lightning. It wasn’t badly harmed while the neighboring trees were killed. Scientists thought this tree could handle lightning, but there was no way to be sure.
Gora and his team saw more of these trees that grew well after lightning strikes. So, they did a study. They followed 93 trees struck by lightning for 2—6 years. They found that all 9 Dipteryx oleifera trees in the study survived with little harm. But 84 other trees were badly hurt, and 64% of them died within two years.
These trees are very tall and have wide tops, making them 68% more likely to be struck by lightning than other trees. During the study, one of the Dipteryx trees was struck twice in 5 years yet continued to grow well.
At present, more studies suggest that these trees attract (吸引) lightning on purpose to destroy other trees and grow better. Scientists are not sure how these trees survive lightning, but they guess it may involve the trees’ ability to carry electricity. They are also interested in other trees with similar characteristics.

Nature is amazing! Take a close look at the world of insects, and you’ll find many unbelievable things. Think about butterflies, for example. They have beautiful colourful wings and strong fantastic flying skills. In summer, you can see them flying freely over flower gardens and wild fields.
But do you know how butterflies become flying insects? It’s one of the amazing wonders of nature. In the beginning, female butterflies lay a small and colourful egg on a leaf or stem (茎) of a plant.
It’s hard to believe that the egg will become something completely different in a few days. It turns into a walking insect. This insect is called a caterpillar. It now has legs, eyes and a large body. A new life has begun. The caterpillar can eat, walk and see, but it is still not a butterfly.
Soon, after growing big, the caterpillar makes a cover for itself. It covers itself in a protective blanket (保护层) and goes to sleep. This stage is known as the “pupa (蛹)” stage.
After a period of time, the blanket breaks and a wet, weak butterfly appears. It now has six legs, a mouth, eyes and wings. Shortly, the wings fill with blood, and the beautiful, colourful butterfly spreads its wings and flies away.
After a few weeks, this adult butterfly lays her eggs, and the cycle begins all over again. This is just one example of the wonders of nature. Look into the woods and mountains and see what you can find next.

Scientists are creating robots that can be used in many different areas of life. Recently a new kind of robot which looks like a penguin has been developed. The penguin robot helps scientists get closer to emperor penguins (帝企鹅) to know more about their behaviour (行为).
Emperor penguins are famous as shy animals. They usually feel nervous and run away when scientists go towards them. This will cause problems to their hearts. To solve it, a team of scientists created a remote control vehicle (遥控车). This vehicle allowed the scientists to study the penguins from over 200 metres away. It could move up to the penguins slowly and quietly without making them run away. It was also used to help make the documentary (纪录片) March of the Penguins.
The scientists still wanted to watch emperor penguins much closer. After trying many times, they developed their latest robot which was like a little grey penguin. It had four black wheels, two black arms and a black and white painted face. The wheels were prepared for the robot to walk on the thick snow easily. This new robot didn’t scare (惊吓) the penguins. They even sang songs to welcome the robot and listened for a response. But the penguins were very unhappy when there was no answer. The scientists didn’t programme (编写程序) the penguin robot to make a sound. Next time they will have the robot sing songs.
Thanks to the robots, scientists could do much more research on emperor penguins.

“Mom! I’m here!” I run to Mom’s car quickly. The wind takes away my voice.
“You made it!” Mom says, but her voice is not happy. She looks into the darkened sky.
BLAM! Something hits the car hard. Then I see a big hawk (鹰). “I couldn’t stop in time. That hawk flew right into us.” Mom cries.
I reach out and catch the hawk before it can fall to the ground. It’s so soft, so warm.
“Is it…? Is it?… dead?” I ask.
The hawk isn’t moving. There’s a knot in my throat, and I can’t speak. “We have to get out of this wind!” Mom says. We arrive home an hour later. I jump out of the car and look at the hawk through the back window.
“It’s alive! I saw the head move!” I say. “Let’s name it Stormy.”
The next day, the sun is shining, and the sky is blue. I run to check on Stormy. Stormy is against the backseat of the car. One wing is hurt. “Now let’s get Stormy to the wildlife center.” Mom says.
After reaching the center, two people carrying a big cage come around the side of the building. “I’m Bev, and this is Alfredo,” the woman says. Bev asks questions about where and when Stormy hit our car. She records Stormy’s information. “OK, let’s get Stormy inside!”
I follow close behind. “Sorry, no visitors,” Bev says when they reach the door. “Hawks are wild animals. We limit human contact (接触) so they have a better chance of surviving when we let them go back into the wild.” I feel sad, but I have to do what’s best for Stormy.
On the last day before school starts, Alfredo says the center will let Stormy go back into the wild this evening and invites me to watch. I focus my binoculars on the open end of the cage. Stormy sticks her head out, then goes back inside. Five minutes pass before Stormy jumps out. She opens and closes her wings. She takes two steps forward and looks around again. Finally, Stormy flies away! She circles overhead, flying higher and higher. She’s beautiful!

2.主旨大意题。第二段主要讲述在哈尔滨开往漠河的K7041次列车上,鄂伦春族艺术家与游客互动,展示本民族文化的内容,核心是艺术家在列车上分享中国民族文化。

Luckily, Mr. Pedersen also had many good experiences. He said that he got lots of help from people all over the world. That’s one of the reasons why he didn’t give up.
“You might have to knock on 1,000 closed doors,” he said, “but there is always an open door somewhere. 【导语】本文是说明文,围绕青少年劳动精神教育展开,点明青少年应当学习生活技能、养成良好劳动习惯,介绍了当前部分青少年忽视劳动教育的现状,并从学校、家庭两个层面说明开展劳动教育的途径与意义。
1.词句猜测题。根据文章第2段“The government is trying to pay attention to the hard-working spirit education. But many teenagers overlook it today. They do not understand the importance of working hard.”可知,前文提到政府重视劳动精神教育,but表示转折,说明青少年对劳动教育的态度与政府相反,是忽视、未留意到,由此可猜测overlook的含义是“没注意到某事”。
2.推理判断题。根据文章第2段“They do not understand the importance of working hard. There is a teenage girl named Nancy. She never helps out around the house. Last year, her mother was on vacation for a week and left her at home. When her mother came home from vacation, she could not find a clean dish or a clean shirt.”可知,作者先提出“青少年不懂得努力劳动的重要性”的观点,随后举Nancy不会做家务的例子,目的是佐证这一观点,说明青少年对劳动重要性的认知不足。
3.细节理解题。根据文章第2段“The government is trying to pay attention to the hard-working spirit education.”

Teens will finally grow up some day, leaving their parents and facing life’s difficulties alone, so they should learn basic life skills and develop good working habits.
The government is trying to pay attention to the importance of physical work. But it seems that people don’t care much about it these years. Many teens do not value the importance of physical work. There is a teenage girl named Nancy. She never helps with the housework. Once her mother was on vacation for a week, leaving her alone at home. When her mother came home from vacation, she could not find a clean dish or a clean shirt.
Schools play an important role in teaching students about the value of physical work. Primary and middle schools should provide students with courses (课程) on hard-working spirit every week. To our joy, some schools provide each class with a small place outside to plant their favourite vegetables. For example, No. 38 Middle School in Hefei set up a 500-square-metre farm on an open platform (露天平台) of its teaching building. Each class is asked to grow and pick vegetables there.
Parents should also encourage children to learn how to do chores at home. Teens should learn one or two life skills every year. These skills can include cooking, washing their own clothes and tidying their rooms. The basic skills may help teens to solve the problems they will meet in the future.
1.Why does the writer write Nancy’s story in Paragraph 2?
A.To show government’s emphasis of physical work.
B.To show many teens do not value the importance of physical work.
C.To show schools play an important role in physical work.
D.To show parents should encourage children to learn about physical work.
2.What does the underlined word “chores” probably mean?

2.词句猜测题。第四段中提到“Parents should also encourage children to learn how to do chores at home. Teens should learn one or two life skills every year. These skills can include cooking, washing their own clothes and tidying their rooms.”,做饭、洗衣服、整理房间都属于家务劳动,所以“chores”意为“家务”,选项B“Housework.”正确。
3.主旨大意题。全文讨论了青少年应学习生活技能和劳动习惯,以及政府、学校和家长在教育中应发挥的作用,属于教育类话题,最可能来自教育杂志,选项A“An education magazine.”正确。
①Many parents ask their kids to do chores like washing dishes, sweeping the floor and folding clothes. Some kids often complain about it, but studies show that doing chores is good for children in many ways.
②First, chores teach kids important life skills. Kids who learn to cook and clean can take better care of themselves in the future. Second, doing chores makes kids feel like important members of the family. Knowing the family needs everyone’s work, they will love their homes more. What’s more, a study of 7,000 people shows that kids who did chores early became more successful (成功的) when they grew up.
③Should parents do everything for their kids? Some of them say yes. They think kids should spend all their time on schoolwork (学业). However, this is not wise. Children need to learn to do chores step by step, just like learning to ride a bicycle.

Children need to do their homework, do housework, and make friends. Learning to do these well helps them know what the most important thing is and how to organize their time well.

1.What is the main purpose of paragraph 1?
A.To tell us what close friends are. B.To show how to make close friends.
C.To explain why people need close friends. D.To compare close friends and casual friends.
2.Why do most people have only a few close friends?
A.They would like to have more casual friends.
B.They can’t feel happier with more close friends.
C.They think it’s right to have about five close friends.
D.They don’t have enough time or energy to have more.
3.What are the good points of having different kinds of friends?
①You can feel less pressure. ②You can get some surprising ideas.
③You can get different support and help. ④You can make sure you won’t lose close friends.
A.①②③ B.①②④ C.①③④ D.②③④
4.What does the underlined phrase a safety net mean in paragraph 3?
A.A kind of game that friends often play together.
B.Something that helps you when you are in trouble.
C.A group of people who live near your home.
D.Something that adds more pressure to your life.
5.Which idea does the writer most likely agree with?
A.Almost all people have more than 25 casual friends.
B.People need more than 6 close friends to keep happy.
C.Close friends are more important than casual friends.
D.The right number of friends is different for each person.
【答案】1.A 2.D 3.A 4.B 5.D

4.词句猜测题。根据文章第3段“provide a safety net when you lose important friends.”可推知,当失去重要朋友时,普通朋友能像安全网一样提供帮助,意指在困难时给予帮助的东西。
5.观点态度题。根据文章第 4 段“There are no hard and fast rules on how many close or casual friends you should have... What matters most is how you feel.”可推知,作者认为适合的朋友数量因人而异,最重要的是自己的感受,说明适合每个人的朋友数量是不同的。
1.What is special about the Dipteryx oleifera tree?
A.It dies quickly after lightning strikes. B.It takes in nutrients directly from lightning.
C.It grows better after being struck by lightning. D.It avoids lightning by hiding under other trees.
2.What does the underlined word “handle” in Paragraph 3 mean?
A.Mix up. B.Give out. C.Suffer from. D.Deal with.
3.Why do Dipteryx oleifera trees attract lightning?
A.To get more water from the sky. B.To kill nearby trees for growth.
C.To become shorter and stronger. D.To protect other trees around them.
4.What might scientists do next according to the text?
A.Plant more Dipteryx oleifera trees. B.Study how trees attract lightning better.
C.Find out where Dipteryx oleifera trees live. D.Look for more trees that can survive lightning.
【答案】1.C 2.D 3.B 4.D

3.细节理解题。根据第二段“Now, they know of a tree that uses lightning’s power to kill nearby trees and get more sunlight and nutrients for itself.”以及最后一段“attract lightning on purpose to destroy other trees and grow better”可知,它们吸引雷电是为了杀死附近的树木从而获得生长优势。
4.推理判断题。根据文章最后一句“They are also interested in other trees with similar characteristics.”可知,科学家们对这些具有类似特征的其他树木也很感兴趣,暗示他们接下来可能会去寻找更多能在这种环境下生存的树木。

“Go, Stormy! ▲ ” I say, waving goodbye.

Penguin (企鹅) Swims 5,000 Miles Every Year
Joao, 71, lives on an island near Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He has retired (退休), but still works as a part-time fisherman. One day, about five years ago, when he was fishing, he found a tiny, sick penguin on the beach near his home. The penguin’s feathers (羽毛) were covered in oil. The poor bird was dying. Joao felt sorry for the sick, little bird, and so he took him back to his home. He cleaned him and fed him fish, and he gave him the name Dindim. The penguin soon became strong and healthy again.
After a week or two, Joao went down to the coast and tried to put Dindim back into the water. The penguin didn’t want to go. He stayed with Joao, getting bigger and bigger—beautiful new feathers grew on his back. Eight months passed. Joao was very happy because he was enjoying the company of his new friend. Then suddenly, one day in February, Dindim disappeared. Joao was sad to lose him, but hoped that the bird just wanted to return to his penguin family. Four more months passed, Joao was walking sadly home from the beach, when suddenly he heard a familiar (熟悉的) “honking” sound—Dindim was back.
Every year since then, Dindim spends eight months with Joao and then disappears for four months. Where does he go? It is thought that he swims 2,500 miles to the coast of Argentina or Chile to start a penguin family and then swims 2,500 miles to Joao.
