看到this/that/such,先往前找它指代的名词。
② 逻辑连接:however/but/yet表转折,therefore/so表因果,and/or表并列。

At home, my ____22____ grew as my father worried about my flat SAT progress, a necessity for entering a/an ____23____ university.
The ____24____ that broke the camel's back was a rejection from the Regional Red Cross Youth Council. As vice president of my school's club, I never ____25____ this. The Red Cross was my passion, setting me ____26____ from others. This rejection made my future look ____27____, and I broke down like a/an ____28____ rubber band.
I turned to my mother, who'd ____29____ her free time for my chances, and shared my fears. She drew a circle: "80% for schoolwork, 10% for SAT, 10% for ____30____ activities. But 100% is your mental health."
"Nothing matters more than health," she said. "We want you to have a good job to be less ____31____. If this path upsets you, it's not worth it — even making hamburgers is fine."
Her words brought great ____32____. I realized a rubber band doesn't need constant stretching. A rubber band that wraps around your hair during the day and is allowed to rest on your nightstand at night won't ever break.
Though I ____33____ studied hard and tried for excellence, my view changed. Fear of failure lost its ____34____. I reach for the moon, but I'm not afraid. For I know if I miss, I'll ____35____ right in my mother's arms.

21-25:C B C A D | 26-30:C B D A A | 31-35:D A C B B
built(建立)、restored(恢复)都和这里的语境反了,displayed(展示)不搭confidence。 22. appetite(食欲)、anger(愤怒)、amusement(娱乐)都不沾边。
remote(偏远的)、admitted(被承认的)、offered(被提供的)都不修饰university。 24. A. straw (固定搭配)the straw that broke the camel's back是固定习语,“压垮骆驼的最后一根稻草”。看到that broke the camel's back直接选straw。
assessed(评估)、declined(拒绝)、ignored(忽视)都不符合“我是副主席却被拒”的意外感。 26. aside/back/down都不构成这个搭配。
bright(光明的)和这里的语境反了,unique(独特的)、normal(正常的)不搭look。 28. uniformed(穿制服的)、multileveled(多层的)、undervalued(被低估的)都不搭橡皮筋比喻。
given up表“放弃”。given in(屈服)、given out(分发/耗尽)、given off(释放)都不搭free time。 30. extraordinary(非凡的)、irrelevant(无关的)、irresponsible(不负责任的)都不搭activities。
broke(破产的)、thrilled(激动的)、rich(富有的)都不符合“好工作是为了减少压力”的逻辑。 32. disappointment(失望)、confusion(困惑)、embarrassment(尴尬)都和这里的语境反了。
even(甚至)、yet(然而)、already(已经)都不搭这个让步逻辑。 34. value(价值)、color(颜色)、charm(魅力)都不搭fear。
roll(滚动)、crowd(拥挤)、swing(摇摆)都不搭in my mother's arms。
IB program(国际文凭课程);SAT(美国高考);Red Cross Youth Council(红十字青年委员会)
A rubber band that wraps around your hair during the day and is allowed to rest on your nightstand at night won't ever break.
拆解:that引导定语从句修饰rubber band,从句里有两个并列谓语wraps和is allowed;主句谓语是won't break。
