Last spring, I joined the school art club and wanted to learn oil painting. At first, I always admired the rich colours of oil works and thought it was 4 . But after my first class, I felt sad. Her words made me become lost in 7 . I went back to the club. I spent 30 minutes every day practicing basic skills, not rushing to finish a whole painting. After three months, my teacher 8 my work. Now I can paint beautiful landscapes.

Dear Jakub,
My parents plan everything for me, like my schoolwork, my free time and even my holidays. I told them I want to make my own plans, but they do not listen. What should I do?
Moly
Hi Moly,
I often receive letters from teenagers like you. It is common for you to struggle during teenage life, as you are experiencing great changes both inside and outside. But don’t worry. You are not alone and I am here to help you.
Our parents always see us as their little children. They want to take care of us. But sometimes they forget that we are growing up and can start to make our own choices.
Maybe it is still too early for you to buy a house or travel alone. But there are many small things you can do to show your parents you are more independent (独立).
For example, you can do some chores like cleaning the bathroom or cooking a meal. These small actions show that you don’t wait for your parents to do everything.
The same is true for hobbies. If you want to learn surfing (冲浪), you can look for a school and offer to pay part of the cost. To do this, you can use the pocket money you’ve saved up. This is a good way to show adults you are becoming more independent.
Hope you find my advice worth taking.

One Thursday afternoon, when I was in Grade 9, a new boy came into my classroom. He was short and thin. He walked up to the teacher and told her, very seriously, that he was new. His name was Christian. He sat down, took a look at me, and then looked away. I didn’t think he was very nice and I was sure he wasn’t the type I would like to become friends with.
During that year, I didn’t talk to him much, but he smiled at me when our eyes met, always shyly. He never ate lunch with anybody, and he never talked to anybody but me.
But one day I joined those unkind kids who were making fun of him. We made fun of him though I thought it was wrong.
“Haven’t you got any friends?” a kid asked Christian, who had walked past us alone, head down.
“No, he hasn’t got any friends. He’s too stupid and shy” I said. Then Christian looked up at me with the saddest dog eyes I had ever seen. I felt very sorry at that moment.
That night, I couldn’t sleep because I couldn’t get Christian’s face out of my mind. In the weeks that followed, he never met my eyes in class and never smiled at me. It was really hard for me to decide to write him a note asking him to forgive (原谅) me. But I thought I should.
The next day in class, I wrote him a note telling him how sorry I felt. About five minutes later, I turned and saw tears in his eyes. “You will never realize what your apology (道歉) has meant to me, Jimmly.” he said to me. “I hope we can become friends. ”
We had lunch together that noon and we had the best talk I had ever had. Over the years at high school, we were close friends.
When I think back, I realize that, if I had not apologized, I would never have known what a lovely person Christian was.
Apologies can really change your life, so never miss the chance to tell somebody you are sorry.

D.Christian had the saddest dog eyes
3.Jimmly felt ________ after he made fun of Christian with other unkind kids.

Gu Jinling, a 12-year-old girl from Beijing, has become a star with over 2.5 million fans. In her videos, she does Chinese classical dance to bring old stories to life.
She recreates the movements of flying characters from Dunhuang wall paintings and draws ideas from Chu Ci, a book of poetry from the Warring States Period.
Many people love her beautiful clothes and dance moves. They are also impressed by her great skills at such a young age. However, Internet users call her an “old artist” as she started dancing at age 3 and has danced for nearly 10 years. “I have studied calligraphy (书法) and played the piano and guitar, but I didn’t enjoy them,” she said. “In the end, I realized that dancing is what really makes me happy.”
Gu first trained in ballet (芭蕾), but at age 6, she changed to Chinese classical dance because she liked its beautiful clothes. She also finds it more beautiful and expressive (有表现力的) than many other dance styles.
Gu needs to learn a lot about ancient Chinese culture. Her home is full of books on Chinese wall paintings. She enjoys reading them to study how people in the past looked and moved. When she travels, she often visits museums to look at ancient dance statues.
Gu believes that small details are important in showing the true style of ancient Chinese dance. For example, in the “Rebound Pipa” movement from Dunhuang dance, dancers must first look down, and then into the distance, to create the feeling of watching over the world. The “Floating Clouds” move uses long silk ribbons and needs great control to look soft and smooth.

①Is the rise of AI doctors like something out of science fiction? No, it is truly happening now. In different parts of China, we can clearly see how AI is bringing big changes to the medical field.
②In February 2025, Beijing Children’s Hospital introduced China’s first AI children’s doctor. One day, an 8-year-old boy had sudden and unexplained epilepsy (癫痫). Thirteen top doctors tried hard to find out the best treatment. At the same time, the AI quickly looked into the boy’s medical history and symptoms (症状). In just a few minutes, it came up with a plan that was very similar to what the human doctors thought.
③In Shandong, a worried couple decided to try an AI tool called DeepSeek when their child felt unwell. After offering the blood test results, DeepSeek suggested that the boy probably had a bad cold and recommended some medicine. Surprisingly when they went to the hospital, the doctor prescribed the exact same medicine.
④Even in places that don’t have many medical resources, like some community hospitals in Wuhan and the countryside in Shandong, AI is giving a helping hand. In Wuhan, hospitals can now use AI to study CT in less than a minute. Before, it would take hours. In Shandong countryside, there are AI systems that help patients describe how they feel and even make it easier for disabled people to get around in the hospitals.
⑤All these real-life examples show us two important things that AI technology can do. It can help top doctors make better decisions and it can also make everyone in the country get health care more easily. However, the discussions are still going on. As one doctor said, “AI technology can give us ideas, but the care and judgment (判断) that humans bring are still needed.”
1.Why does the writer start the passage by asking questions?
A.To make a report. B.To introduce the topic. C.To have an interview. D.To do a survey.
2.Which is the meaning of the underlined word “prescribed” in Paragraph 3?
A.To advise or order the use of medication. B.To recommend the use of AI.
C.To set rules or steps that must be followed. D.To officially tell someone what to do.
3.Which is TRUE according to the passage?
A.In Wuhan community hospitals, it takes AI hours to study CT.
B.In Beijing, an AI children’s doctor helped an 8-year-old boy with a bad cold.
C.In Shandong countryside hospitals, AI can help the disabled get around easily.
D.AI doctors can hardly make everyone in the country get health care more easily.
4.Which of the following shows the structure of the passage?
A. B. C. D.
【答案】1.B 2.A 3.C 4.C

ON YOUR BACK ON YOUR STOMACH CURLED UP ON YOUR SIDE
Everyone has got two personalities—the one that is shown to the world and the other that is secret and real. You don’t show your secret personality when you’re awake because you can control yourself, but when you’re asleep, your sleeping position shows the real you. On a normal night, of course, you often change your sleeping positions. The important position that best shows your secret personality is the one you take when you just fall asleep.
If you go to sleep on your back, you’re a very open person. You normally trust people and you are easily influenced by new ideas. You don’t like to make people unhappy, so you never express your real feelings. You’re quite shy and you aren’t very confident.
If you sleep on your stomach, you are a person who likes to keep secrets. You worry a lot and you’re always easily becoming sad. You never want to change your ideas, but you are happy with your life the way it is. You usually live for today not for tomorrow.
If you sleep curled up, you are probably a very nervous person. You have a low opinion of yourself and often protect yourself from being hurt, so you are very defensive (戒备的). You’re shy and you don’t usually like meeting people. You like to be on your own.
If you sleep on your side, you have usually got a well-balanced personality. You know your strengths and weaknesses. You’re usually careful. You have a confident personality. You sometimes feel worried, but you don’t often get unhappy. You always say what you think, even if it makes people angry.
1.When does the sleeping position best show your secret personality?
A.In the daytime. B.At night.
C.When you just fall asleep. D.During the deep sleep.
2.Tina never tells her secrets to her friends. She probably goes to sleep ________.
A.on her stomach B.on her back
C.on her side D.curled up
3.What does the passage mainly tell us?
A.Sleeping on your stomach is bad for your health.
B.Sleeping on your side is the best way of sleeping.
C.Changing positions will cause sleeping problems.
D.Sleeping positions show people’s secret personalities.
【答案】1.C 2.A 3.D

In the digital era, where social media is flooded with ceaseless sharing, Lina, a 26-year-old resident from Hangzhou, stands as a striking example. She regularly posts artworks and travel snapshots on Instagram but seldom replies to comments or engages in private conversations. “I love sharing fragments (碎片) of my life, yet building deep connections with strangers feels emotionally exhausting”, she admits. Lina’s attitude represents a growing trend among today’s youth: light socializing, a pattern that prioritizes self-expression over intensive emotional bonds in the virtual world.
Sociologist Min Li observes that social media, once a hub (中心) for developing relationships, has changed into a “self-showcase” platform for the younger generation. Instead of seeking active interactions, they share content like scenic photos or daily routines, with little expectation of feedback. Actions such as casually unfollowing, blocking strangers or using 24-hour disappearing posts show their wish to avoid burdensome “emotional labor” from shallow virtual ties. This shift comes from their desire to escape the overwhelming pressure from empty digital interactions.
While critics dismiss light socializing as a sign of “emotional coldness”, it actually reflects a thoughtful adaptation. Psychologist Lu Chen argues that by embracing this approach, young people regain control over their online space—sharing freely without the anxiety of meeting others’ expectations. Even social platforms have evolved to meet this need: many now offer “silent modes”, such as hidden interaction records and one-way posting features, acknowledging the widespread acceptance of light socializing.
In a world tightly bound by digital connections, light socializing strikes a delicate balance between self-expression and privacy protection. It is not a refusal of social bonds but a wise pursuit of healthier, more autonomous online engagement. This trend shows the younger generation’s maturity in safeguarding their mental well-being, representing a forward-looking and thoughtful approach to modern social interactions.
1.What does Lina do on social media?
A.She only posts artworks. B.She shares life but skips deep chats.
C.She never replies to comments. D.She focuses on building deep online bonds.
2.According to Min Li, what has social media become for young people now?
A.A center for deep relationships. B.A platform for personal display.
C.A tool to seek frequent interactions. D.A space to reduce pressure by virtual ties.

Have you ever heard of any proverbs (谚语)? Proverbs are not just simple sayings. Short sentences full of 1 are called proverbs. They usually come from people’s everyday life and experience. “Rome wasn’t built in a day” is one that my grandma often says when I’m in a 2 . It carries a simple yet powerful meaning: great achievements never happen overnight. They 3 time and patience. I finally understood it last year.
Last spring, I joined the school art club and wanted to learn oil painting. At first, I always admired the rich colours of oil works and thought it was 4 . But after my first class, I felt sad. When I tried to mix colours, they went terribly wrong. My painting looked awful, nothing like the teacher’s work. I practiced for a week but still made no progress. I decided to 5 .
Grandma noticed my low mood at dinner that night. When I told her about the art club, she set down her chopsticks and smiled, sharing a story 6 her own. She told me how she learned to make dumplings. She failed many times—dough (面团) broke and fillings fell out. But she kept practicing, little by little, for months. “Rome wasn’t built in a day,” she said. “Good skills need patience.”
Her words made me become lost in 7 . I went back to the club. I spent 30 minutes every day practicing basic skills, not rushing to finish a whole painting. After three months, my teacher 8 my work. Now I can paint beautiful landscapes.
This proverb teaches me an important lesson: success doesn’t come 9 . It needs efforts (努力) for a long time. 10 I lose heart, I remember those words and keep going. Next time you hear a proverb, take a moment to think about its meaning. You’ll find these old words still have great power to guide us today.

Dear Jakub,
My parents plan everything for me, like my schoolwork, my free time and even my holidays.
Jakub

3.What can we infer about “light socializing”?
A.It encourages safe online engagement. B.It makes young people emotionally cold.
C.It relies mainly on platforms’ silent modes. D.It abandons social bonds to protect mental health.
4.What can be a suitable title for the text?
A.Keep Silent Mode On B.Keep the Digital Distance
C.Social Media: “Self-showcase” Platform D.Emotional Coldness: Online Life’s Secret

In the Loess Plateau (黄土高原) of northern China, around 40 million people still live in traditional caves called yaodong. These homes are not only practical but also environmentally friendly. 1 What is the structure of yaodong?
These cave houses are built with vaulted (有拱顶的) rooms and thick earthen walls. The arched entrances are decorated with beautiful wooden windows. Inside, you’ll find large, heated beds known as the kang. Small tunnels connect the rooms, creating a comfortable living space.
Why do people build yaodong?
2 The region has a dry climate with strong winds, making above-ground houses less practical. Instead, yaodong are built into the earth, offering protection from harsh weather. The soil in this area is thick and fine-grained (细粒的), making it easy to dig while providing strong support for the structure. This natural material also acts as excellent insulation (隔热材料), keeping the homes cool in summer and warm in winter. What’s more, because wood and other building materials are rare, yaodong are a cost-effective and green choice for the local people.
3
Yaodong come in different forms, each adapted to the local landscape. One type is the cliffside yaodong (靠崖式窑洞), which is carved directly into the hillsides. These homes have open fronts that allow natural light and air to flow in. Another type is the sunken yaodong (下沉式窑洞), which is built by digging a large rectangular pit (矩形坑) into the ground. Rooms are then carved into the walls of the pit, creating an underground courtyard. This design provides extra insulation and privacy. Finally, there are stand-alone yaodong, which are built above ground using materials like bricks, stone and mud. 206
