B Many years ago when I was a young adult, my thoughts were often shadowed by doubts and fears about my future. I decided to go out for a drive. But suddenly, my day turned into a disaster with a brutal head-on collision (撞击). After I was rushed to hospital, the doctor said, “Due to the injuries, you’ll probably have a difficult time walking, let alone be involved with sports.” I cried uncontrollably imagining the very worst for my future. My parents took over. “Thank you for your advice,” they said calmly, “Our daughter will be up and walking again soon.” During long days sitting immobile, I started self-reflecting and soul searching. I examined my life’s choices and where my life was heading. I’d made a habit of worrying about future events that had not happened yet. My negative thoughts created mood swings, feelings of despair and depression. I suffered with anxiety attacks, headaches, and lack of self-esteem. However, what began as a nightmare gave me time to learn about personal development and transformation. I learned to change the way I think and decided to replace despair with hope, reactivity with reflection. With determination and my family’s support, I began to learn how to walk again. Over time, not only did I dance and play basketball again, I transformed my entire way of life. What’s even more amazing, that accident created a pivotal moment, helping me discover my life’s purpose. Inspired by the positive changes made to my life, I dedicated my life to helping others find the same fulfillment. Thirty-five years later, I authored a wellness book, sharing the lessons I’ve learned. Helping others create lives filled with purpose and happiness has become my greatest joy. Today, as I reflect on the roads we all must travel, I realize that every twist, every turn, and every setback is an opportunity for growth. If we are open to change, our journeys, no matter how daunting, can offer paths with new horizons and perspective on life. 4. How did the author react to the accident in the beginning? A. Begging the doctor to help her. B. Deciding to challenge the life. C. Crying all day but doing nothing. D. Feeling worried and uncertain. 5. What can we infer about the author’s parents? A. They were upset with the author’s future. B. They played a big role in the author’s recovery. C. They had thought the doctor might be wrong. D. They comforted and suggested accepting the fact. 6. What is the main factor for the author’s development? A. The change to the way of thinking. B. The family’s love and support. C. The determination not to give up. D. The lessons from writing her book. 7. What does the author want to tell us through her story? A. Where there is a will, there is a way. B. Every difficulty carries a potential to grow. C. Accidents can change your life for the better. D. Fortune comes to those who help themselves. C There is something nice about a continuing adventure — picking up a story that seemed finished, and adding more depth, growth, and excitement. But are sequels (续集) worth it? I agree that there is joy in seeing something completely new — new characters, new settings, fresh and unpredictable stories. I also admit that if sequels are not made with the same care as the first film, they can be disappointing. Many people argue sequels lack originality, with similar characters and plots. Others say sequels are just a trick to make more money, using popular characters to easily draw audiences. However, I believe sequels can actually be wonderful. For one thing, sequels can make the story feel more complete. With more time to develop, the storyline can become richer. Wicked, followed by Wicked For Good, is a good example. While the second film was not rated as highly as the first, the added time gave the story more depth. Additionally, sequels sometimes have more advanced plots than the first film, since the initial story was mostly used for world-building. Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back is a great example. The original movie had a good plot and could stand alone, but the sequel took everything to another level. Luke grew a lot as a character, and the film set up the whole franchise for future stories. Thirdly, sequels can introduce new characters that advance the plot in exciting ways. The addition of Jessie in Toy Story 2 is so smooth that I often forget she wasn’t even in the first movie. She brings new energy and emotional depth, and her sad backstory about being abandoned by her previous owner makes the whole film richer. Upon further reflection, being in college — a sequel of sorts — I do think sequels can be great. There were new characters, small changes in scenery, and lots of personal growth. While there are some things you can only get in the “original”, like your years of high school, there is still so much to learn and experience. So yes, I do believe sequels can be great. 8. Why does the author mention anti-sequel views? A. To show they are wrong. B. To balance her argument. C. To agree with moviegoers. D. To introduce popular ideas. 9. What do the two examples in para 3 and para 4 show? A. Sequels can make stories richer. B. Sequels are usually better films. C. Sequels take more time to make. D. Sequels sometimes have open ends. 10. What does the author mean by the example of Jessie? A. New characters give freshness. B. Toy Story 2 is the best sequel. C. New characters strengthen stories. D. Sequels need more characters. 11. Why is college compared to a sequel? A. To show college is exciting. B. To explain growth continues. C. To prove sequels are common. D. To describe college life. D There is no need to head to the movie theater or download the video game app: Angry Birds can be found right in your backyard this summer — if you live in the suburb (市郊). Virginia Tech researchers recently found that birds that live in suburban areas exhibit significantly higher levels of anger than those living in country. The results were recently published in Biology Letters. The finding offers a fresh look at how human influence shapes wildlife behaviour, reminding us that city life changes even the smallest creatures. “A possible reason for this is that these birds have less space but better resources to defend,” said Scott Davies, an expert at biological sciences in the College of Science. “Living near humans provides better food and shelter, but it also means more competition for these limited resources.” The Virginia Tech and Radford University campuses served as the suburban sites due to their levels of human impact. Rural sites included Kentland Farm and Heritage Park. In these settings, the researchers played a recording of a male song sparrow and observed how the birds responded to a simulated intrusion (入侵) from a neighbor. Campus birds showed a higher level of aggression: they approached and remained near the speaker, beat their wings wildly, engaged in loud singing and then began to produce “soft song” — a term that researchers use to describe the quiet noise that a bird makes, which indicates an attack is to be launched soon. Though rural birds still responded to a song intrusion, they did not respond as vigorously. The researchers placed small leg bands on the birds to identify individuals, and recorded each individual’s responses twice, several weeks apart. The suburban birds reacted more fiercely on both occasions, showing that their increased aggression lasts throughout a breeding season. The team hopes the study will encourage people to pay more attention to the animals living around us and think about how we share space with them. 12. What can we know about the study by Virginia Tech researchers? A. There are more angry birds in suburban areas than in rural areas. B. Angry birds prefer to live in suburban areas instead of in country. C. Birds living in suburban areas tend to show a higher level of anger. D. Birds in rural areas prefer to live near humans for food and shelter. 13. How did the researchers measure the level of different birds’ anger? A. Recording the reactions of song sparrows to their neighbors’ intrusion. B. Placing small leg bands on the birds to identify different individuals. C. Observing the birds’ responses to a recording of male song sparrows. D. Approaching the birds in order to listen to their soft and quiet songs. 14. What’s the meaning of the underlined word “vigorously” in paragraph 5? A. Mildly. B. Strongly. C. Helplessly. D. Gently. 15. How is the passage mainly developed? A. Argue and persuade. B. Compare and judge. C. Discuss and examine. D. Inform and explain. An October 2024 article revealed an alarming trend: Students entering universities often complete high school without ever reading an entire novel, let alone reading aloud. Tommy was running as fast as he could, focused on nothing but his destination----the shop on the street corner. Two weeks ago he saw figurines(小塑像) of Marvel superheroes on the shelves and felt he had to have one. He’s been walking the neighbor’s dog ever since then to earn money to fulfil his little dream. He was so excited and barely noticing the world around him. Maybe that’s why he tripped over the legs of a homeless woman, who was sitting on the pavement, her back against the wall. He murmured(低语) "sorry" and moved on to his destination. Once he entered the shop, he went straight to the shelves with figurines. Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Iron Man, and many more----all of his admired heroes. With his heart pounding like crazy he reached for Spiderman. “You like these, true believer?” Tommy turned around. An old man was standing behind him with a wide smile on his face. “Y-yes, …Yes, they’re awesome!” answered Tommy. “They’re strong and fast and help other people a lot ...”the boy looked at figurines in admiration. “I wish I could be a superhero too.” “Then become one!” said the old man. “How?” Tommy asked in surprise. “I don’t have any superpowers.” “And why would you need them?” the old man smiled. Seeing the confusion on the boy's face, he squatted(蹲下) and put his hands on Tommy's arms. “Did you know that shopkeeper lady over there has a disabled husband? She’s been working hard and taking care of him for years. I’ve never heard a word of complaint from her. And this person ---” he pointed at a redhead man, who just entered the shop. “He’s a firefighter; he’s saved countless lives. He never gives up, no matter how dangerous the situation seems to be.” The old man looked Tommy in the eyes and smiled. “You don’t need a superpower to be a hero for someone else. The path of a superhero starts not in the mind, not in the muscles, but in the heart.” Tommy lowered his head and looked at his shoes thinking intensely. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The homeless woman was right there, where he saw her last time. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 江苏省镇江中学高二年级10月学情检测 英语 第一部分 听力 (共两节,满分 30 分) 注意,回答听力部分时,请先将答案标在试卷上。 1. 4. D 5. B 6. A 7. B 9. A 10. C 11. 根据第二段“I also admit that if sequels are not made with the same care as the first film, they can be disappointing. Many people argue sequels lack originality, with similar characters and plots. Others say sequels are just a trick to make more money, using popular characters to easily draw audiences. However, I believe sequels can actually be wonderful. (我也承认如果续集制作时没有和第一部一样用心,它们可能令人失望。很多人认为续集缺乏创意,人物和情节雷同。另一些人说续集只是赚钱手段,利用人气角色吸引观众。然而,我认为续集也可以很精彩)”可知,作者先提出反面观点,再转折亮出自己看法,是为了平衡论证。 【9题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段“With more time to develop, the storyline can become richer. (有更多时间展开,故事情节会变得更丰富)”以及第四段“The original movie had a good plot and could stand alone, but the sequel took everything to another level. She brings new energy and emotional depth, and her sad backstory about being abandoned by her previous owner makes the whole film richer. (《玩具总动员2》里Jessie的加入十分自然,我常常忘记第一部里根本没有她。她带来新的活力与情感层次,她被前主人抛弃的悲伤往事让整部电影更丰满)”可知,新角色能够丰富、强化故事。 【11题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“Upon further reflection, being in college — a sequel of sorts — I do think sequels can be great. There were new characters, small changes in scenery, and lots of personal growth. (进一步思考,上大学算是一种续集,我确实认为续集可以很棒。会遇到新的人,环境略有改变,还有大量的自我成长)”可知,把大学比作续集是为了说明成长一直在继续。 D There is no need to head to the movie theater or download the video game app: Angry Birds can be found right in your backyard this summer — if you live in the suburb (市郊). C 13. C 14. B 15. An October 2024 article revealed an alarming trend: Students entering universities often complete high school without ever reading an entire novel, let alone reading aloud. As texts become a means, a pipeline for skill acquisition, consuming shorter texts will enhance academic performance, which will result in more desirable educational outcomes, including college admission. ___16___ It’s easy then to assume that the reason students aren’t reading books is because they aren’t being asked to. ___17___ Schools have slowly changed the relationship between students and books. Reading (or being read to) is no longer seen as an act that has intrinsic (内在的) value, a joy worth pursuing for its own sake (目的). By reading aloud to older students, I’m exploring to periodically break the link between reading and working. ___18___ They will consume short stories, poems, long nonfiction articles, and even entire novels. I hope that when reading inevitably becomes tough, they will remember the times, not so long ago when their teacher read them a story. ___19___ “A good story, well told.” That is how my father described the books I cherished as a child. I’ve fallen in love with many books since then, but the stories I loved most are the ones he read to me. ___20___ At least, that’s the story I’m telling myself. A. Actually, something deeper is happening. B. My students will continue reading texts on their own. C. They will recall the real experiences while reading aloud. D. They never know what it means to read aloud a long passage. E. I’m sure reading aloud will help my students love books as I do. F. As a result, many students are required only to read short passages. G. Therefore, high school students are rather familiar with short passages. 16. F 17. A 18. B 19. C 20. It 39. changes 40. to complete 41. equipped 42. which 43. more productive 44. are using 45. in 【解析】 【导语】文章主要报道了中国Z世代新农人运用无人机、北斗设备、人工智能等科技改造传统农业,提升生产效率,助力乡村振兴。 定冠词 the后接名词,构成“the + 名词 + of”结构。 + 时间段 + to do sth.,表示“花费某人多长时间做某事”,故填不定式to complete。 参考词汇:中国传统民乐 Chinese traditional music, 演奏会 concert, 国风雅韵 Elegant Charm of Chinese Music Dear Peter, _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Yours, Li Hua 【答案】Dear Peter, How is everything going? __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: Tommy lowered his head and looked at his shoes thinking intensely. Finally he raised his head. "So I am supposed to...” he stopped mid-sentence when he realized that he was alone. He turned his head left and right, but the old man was nowhere to be seen. His eyes lit up---- he already had an idea of what he should do. He looked at figurines for the last time and moved towards the counter. "Two sandwiches and a cup of tea please, "he said, and then returned, food in hand. The homeless woman was right there, where he saw her last time. Tommy came closer and carefully gave the woman his buys. Her eyes opened wide in surprise, then filled with tears. “Thank you," she whispered. Tommy bowed his head, turned around and went back home. He was moving faster and faster and finally he started to run. Strange energy filling his body made him feel like he could fly. When he finally stopped, he was breathing heavily, but he didn’t feel tired. He smiled happily --- it was a wonderful feeling. And nothing could stop it. 开始:start/begin/commence ②.充满:be filled with/be full of 情绪类 ①. Thank for/show one’s appreciation/show one’s gratitude/be grateful ②.
