M: I ordered a lamp online, but it turned out to be different from what I expected. W: What’s wrong with it? M: The color is fine, and the lighting is just as expected. But the description said the lamp was made of metal, yet it felt completely like plastic. W: Did you check the online reviews before placing the order? M: Yes, the overall rating was high. I guess I shouldn’t trust those reviews anymore. W: Well, it’s better to have some information than none, but you really need to take time to pick out what’s useful. Reviews are not always trustworthy, so I always spend quite a bit of time figuring out which ones are reliable. M: Any tips? W: Pay attention to the date. Older reviews, whether positive or negative, may not reflect the latest state of the product or service. And always look for reviews with product videos — they’re the next best thing to in-store shopping. 13. When were the first SolarSPELL libraries established? A. This award was truly meaningful, especially as it came ten years after our first SolarSPELL libraries were piloted in the Pacific Islands. M: What do you believe led to this recognition for SolarSPELL? W: Well, roughly half the world isn’t online — that’s why we created this solar-powered device. It generates its own offline WiFi hotspot, allowing nearby devices to access its digital library that has tens of thousands of resources in education, agriculture, and health in users’ native languages. M: That’s inspiring. Could you walk us through the journey of this initiative? W: Of course. In 2018, we expanded it to schools in East Africa, and five years after that, extended our reach to schools in the Middle East. M: What achievements have you made this year? W: The device has helped doctors in Vanuatu treat patients more effectively, boosted crop harvests in Rwanda, and enabled self-guided learning for students in Syria. I’d like to share with you the story of my latest project for this season — Thomas’ Antiques. The three-story shop consists of 9,000 bricks, with each floor taking me about two months to complete. It wasn’t a fast build, but the process was satisfying. The ground floor includes a tall bookshelf, along with desks and colorful books. The next floor up focuses on musical instruments, with a grand piano taking center stage and sheet music for piano, guitar, and violin displayed on the walls as part of the collection. On the top floor, you’ll find the clockmaker’s workshop, featuring grandfather clocks, cuckoo clocks, alarm clocks, and carriage clocks — highlighting the passage of time. This antique store was inspired by the life of my late grandfather. He was a passionate collector and craftsman, once a clockmaker and skilled in many musical instruments. The objects inside reflect his lifelong interests and the treasures he gathered during his travels. I hope this creation will be enjoyed and appreciated by people all over the world. A No single job suits all of us, but many of the best ones have a few characteristics in common. But as I grew older, the Chinese side faded away. While I happily accepted the red envelopes during Lunar New Year and consumed mooncakes on the Mid-Autumn Festival, I didn’t feel connected to the culture. Before my children were born, I had already decided that I would teach them Mandarin (普通话). I felt that they ought to be able to speak the language of their heritage. Parenting books advised describing your actions while playing with your children, so I started digging out the long-buried words during every activity: “ball”, “eat”, “sleep”, “play”. However, as this exercise continued, the gaps in my Mandarin became more and more obvious. Luckily, the ready availability of Chinese language media — from books to television shows to music — made things much easier. As they grew older, I took them to the local library where the tale of the Monkey King and the legend of Chang’e immediately caught their imagination. When I see my son converse with his grandfather in Mandarin or when my daughter insists on fish for Lunar New Year, the time spent reading all those books closely feels well-spent. Last fall, my youngest son recited Li Bai’s “Quiet Night Thoughts” for the Moon Festival performance at his preschool. His voice rang out with confidence and his arms swept up to indicate the moon above. Joy and wonder lit up my father’s face as he listened to the familiar verses from the mouth of his grandson. Decades ago, my Chinese teacher explained to me how the moon connects all those who seek its light, no matter how far apart they are. So, too, does language. It influences culture and history, and connects future generations to past ones. 24. What do we know about the author as a child? A. She travelled between two countries when young. B. She was brought up in an all-English environment. C. She once lost her sense of belonging to Chinese culture. D. She was attracted to Chinese traditional festivals the most. 25. How did the author teach her children Mandarin? A. Talking about her daily routine. B. Sending them to a Chinese teacher. C. Buying them ancient Chinese storybooks. D. Taking advantage of Chinese language media. 26. Which of the following can best describe the author? A. Ambitious. B. Devoted. C. Proud. D. Optimistic. 27. What lesson can be learnt from this article? A. All roads lead to Rome. B. Every cloud has a silver lining. C. Great minds think alike. D. Language bridges generations. C 25. D 26. B 27. 根据文章第一段“But as I grew older, the Chinese side faded away. While I happily accepted the red envelopes during Lunar New Year and consumed mooncakes on the Mid-Autumn Festival, I didn’t feel connected to the culture.(但随着年龄增长,中国元素逐渐淡出了我的生活。虽然我每逢春节都开心地收下红包,在中秋节时享用月饼,却不再感受到与这种文化的联系)”可知,作者曾经失去了对中国文化的归属感。 【25题详解】 细节理解题。根据文章第三段“Parenting books advised describing your actions while playing with your children, so I started digging out the long-buried words during every activity: “ball”, “eat”, “sleep”, “play”. However, as this exercise continued, the gaps in my Mandarin became more and more obvious. Luckily, the ready availability of Chinese language media-from books to television shows to music-made things much easier. As they grew older, I took them to the local library where the tale of the Monkey King and the legend of Chang’e immediately caught their imagination.(育儿书籍建议在和孩子玩耍时描述自己的动作,于是我开始在每次活动中重新翻出那些早已被遗忘的词语:“球”“吃”“睡”“玩”。 根据文章最后一段“Decades ago, my Chinese teacher explained to me how the moon connects all those who seek its light, no matter how far apart they are. So, too, does language. It influences culture and history, and connects future generations to past ones.(几十年前,我的中文老师向我解释过,月亮连接着所有追寻其光芒的人,无论他们相隔多远。语言也是如此,它影响着文化与历史,并将后代与过去联系在一起)”可知,作者教自己的孩子学习普通话,从孩子能用中文交流、背诵古诗中感受到语言跨越时空、联结世代与文化的力量可知,文章主旨是语言与文化能够跨越时空、联结人们。 C In recent years, eco-conscious gardening has gained popularity. With so much emphasis on native plants, it is easy to see non-natives as simply a bad choice. However, gardeners say it’s not that simple. Laura Janney, CEO of The Inspired Garden Masterclass, argues that we miss the big picture by thinking in terms of native vs. non-native and assigning opposing moral labels. Instead, we should define “bad plants” as those that are invasive (入侵的) or damaging to local ecosystems, and “good plants” as those that support pollinators (传粉者), are sustainable, and aren’t invasive. The good plants, she adds, “work well in the garden whether they’re native or not.” That said, it’s still helpful to understand why non-native plants can be problematic when not planted thoughtfully. “There’s always a risk that a non-native plant can become invasive outside its native range, meaning it could cause negative impacts by out-competing native species for necessities of survival — especially in the absence of its co-evolved organisms feeding on it that otherwise keep its population in check — introducing pests or diseases, or providing low food and habitat value for native wildlife,” says Amy Karpati, Ph.D., senior science advisor at Teatown Lake Reservation. Since native plants are being grown in their native climate, once established, they can grow with little extra care. As a result, they are widely promoted as the virtuous choice, which can create pressure to turn a garden into a fully native landscape and guilt when that goal isn’t met. However, experts say a 100% native garden is simply not realistic for most people. A 2018 study of Carolina chickadees (山雀) shows that in areas with less than 70% native plant biomass, the birds could not produce enough young to sustain their populations, but thrived at 70% or higher. This has led to the recommendation that homeowners aim for roughly 70% native plants — a goal that supports wildlife while remaining realistic. “A healthy ecosystem is more important than the pursuit of native purity,” says Shane Pliska, the president and CEO of Planterra. “There is no turning back from the human impact, so we should be more focused on greening our environments with more plants and wooded habitats rather than a historical restoration to what was. Ecosystems evolve.” 28. What does Janney think determines whether a plant is “good” or “bad”? A. Whether it is native to the area. B. Whether it can survive with little care. C. Whether it benefits the local ecosystem. D. Whether it is popular among local gardeners. 29. How can non-native plants cause problems according to paragraph 3? A. By attracting co-evolved organisms. B. By driving away native insect species. C. By destroying habitats for native wildlife. D. By taking resources away from native species. 30. What is paragraph 4 mainly about? A. Risks of uncontrolled plant growth. B. The superiority of native-only gardens. C. A proper target for native plant cover. D. Influences of plants on bird reproduction. 31. What does Pliska imply in the last paragraph? A. Human impact is far-reaching. B. A plant’s role outweighs its origin. C. Native plants have lost their value. D. Past landscapes should be restored. C 29. D 30. C 31. 根据第二段中的“Instead, we should define “bad plants” as those that are invasive (入侵的) or damaging to local ecosystems, and “good plants” as those that support pollinators (传粉者), are sustainable, and aren’t invasive.(相反,我们应当把“坏植物”定义为具有入侵性或者破坏当地生态系统的植物,把“好植物”定义为可以供养传粉者、具备可持续性且没有入侵性的植物。)” 根据第三段中的“There’s always a risk that a non‑native plant can become invasive outside its native range, meaning it could cause negative impacts by out‑competing native species for necessities of survival.(外来植物在原生范围之外总有变成入侵物种的风险,这意味着它会通过和本土物种争夺生存必需品而造成负面影响。)” 根据第四段中的“This has led to the recommendation that homeowners aim for roughly 70% native plants — a goal that supports wildlife while remaining realistic.(这就给出一项建议:住宅园艺目标大约配置百分之七十本土植物,该目标既可以支持野生动物生存,又具备现实可行性。)” 通读最后一段,尤其是最后一段中的““A healthy ecosystem is more important than the pursuit of native purity,” says Shane Pliska, the president and CEO of Planterra. “There is no turning back from the human impact, so we should be more focused on greening our environments with more plants and wooded habitats rather than a historical restoration to what was. Ecosystems evolve.”(“健康的生态系统比追求纯粹本土物种更加重要,”普兰特拉公司总裁兼首席执行官谢恩·普利斯卡说道。人类造成的影响已经无法逆转,因此我们应当更多关注用更多植物与林地栖息地绿化环境,而不是复原过去的样貌。生态系统是不断演化的。)”可知,Pliska暗示植物发挥的实际作用比它的来源更加重要。 D When unethical (不道德的) behavior is criticized, demands are often met with defensiveness and denial. How can we overcome this reaction? New research by Lauren Howe, an assistant professor at the University of Zurich, identifies a way that criticism can be more effective. A series of experiments involving more than 1,400 participants shows that criticized groups are more likely to take criticism to heart when the messenger not only criticizes the groups, but also shows concern for the issues that the criticized groups themselves face. When criticizing groups, messengers often address the group by pointing out how the group is causing harm to another group and asking them to change their ways. “What messengers may not realize is that when a person accuses a group of causing harm like this, right away, members of the group may believe that the messenger views their group as immoral and does not care about their outcomes,” Howe explains. “We find in our research that when messages include dual (双重的) concern by expressing concern for the group that is criticized while still accusing the group of causing harm, it reduces this problematic inference, and thus dual concern messages are more effective at encouraging members of a group to agree with the criticism of their own group.” The research tested the idea in campaigns: Participants read a poster advocating stopping prejudice against a group with whom they personally disagreed. The poster led participants to agree 8.6% more strongly that their disfavored group faced unfair and specific prejudices when the poster conveyed that the advocates also were concerned about the prejudices that many other groups faced. What the research shows, Howe summarizes, is that criticism works better when it is done with care. She suggests, “When messengers point out harm or wrongdoing, they might consider what challenges the group that they are accusing of harm faces.” Messengers may want to acknowledge these challenges, if appropriate, to signal to their audience that they are not dismissed as immoral. As messengers raise their voices to criticize one group for harming another group, their arguments are more persuasive when they emphasize concern for the criticized group. 32. What does the study by Lauren Howe mainly focus on? A. The impact of public criticism on individuals. B. The strategies for making criticism more effective. C. The effectiveness of public criticism in changing behavior. D. The importance of reducing defensive reactions to criticism. 33. What does the underlined phrase “take criticism to heart” most probably mean? A. Refuse to accept criticism B. Seriously consider the criticism C. Voice strong complaints about criticism D. Keep criticism in mind for revenge 34. Why might dual concern messages be useful? A. They focus on the benefits of changing behavior. B. They make the criticized group feel more powerful. C. They highlight the harm caused by the criticized group. D. They reduce the perceived moral judgment of the messenger. 35. What does the author imply in the last paragraph? A. Bitter criticism is much more effective. B. The harm caused by criticism is unavoidable. C. Expressing concern can make criticism more persuasive. D. Messengers should avoid criticizing groups facing challenges. B 33. B 34. D 35. 根据第二段“New research by Lauren Howe, an assistant professor at the University of Zurich, identifies a way that criticism can be more effective. (苏黎世大学助理教授劳伦・豪的一项新研究发现了一种能让批评更有效的方法。)”可知,劳伦・豪的研究核心是找到让批评更有效的策略。 【33题详解】 词句猜测题。根据第二段 “A series of experiments involving more than 1,400 participants shows that criticized groups are more likely to take criticism to heart when the messenger not only criticizes the groups, but also shows concern for the issues that the criticized groups themselves face. (包含1400多名参与者的一系列实验表明,当发声者既对该群体提出批评,又能够体谅被批评群体自身面临的困境时,被批评群体更有可能take criticism to heart。)”可知,当批评者同时表达对被批评群体的关心时,被批评的群体更有可能将批评放在心上。因此take criticism to heart意为“认真对待批评”。 根据第三段“We find in our research that when messages include dual (双重的) concern by expressing concern for the group that is criticized while still accusing the group of causing harm, it reduces this problematic inference, and thus dual concern messages are more effective at encouraging members of a group to agree with the criticism of their own group. (我们在研究中发现,当信息包含双重关注时,即对被批评的群体表示关注,同时仍指责该群体造成伤害,这减少了这种有问题的推断,因此双重关注信息更有效地鼓励群体成员同意对自己群体的批评。)”可知,双重关注信息之所以有用,是因为它减少了被批评群体对批评者道德评判的感知。 【35题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“As messengers raise their voices to criticize one group for harming another group, their arguments are more persuasive when they emphasize concern for the criticized group. (当传达者发声批评一个群体伤害另一个群体时,当他们强调对被批评群体的关切时,他们的论点会更有说服力。)”可知,作者通过引用豪的研究结论暗示,表达关切能让批评更具说服力。 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 The integration of AI into education is rapidly shifting from theoretical discussion to practical application. For as long as she could remember, Chesa had listened to her parents talk warmly about the Hinara, their hometown far across the ocean. Her parents described lush palm trees, warm tropical wind, tasty local snacks and the peaceful countryside where Grandpa lived. Chesa built a perfect, glowing picture of the Hinara in her mind, dreaming that it would be a wonderful oasis (绿洲) full of joy and beauty. At last, the whole family booked flights to visit their relatives. Full of eager excitement, Chesa boarded the plane, counting down the hours until she could step into her imagined paradise. But reality hit her hard the moment they arrived. The air was hot and sticky, full of thick moisture. The roads were narrow and bumpy. Local taxis rumbled (发出轰鸣) noisily along the streets, and simple wooden houses lined the roadside instead of the neat modern buildings she had pictured. Grandpa’s small house was plain and narrow, without the comfortable facilities she was used to back in Indiana. Disappointment washed over Chesa again and again. She refused to try local food, kept quiet during family gatherings, and avoided going out with her grandpa. She thought her dream oasis had turned into a dull, uncomfortable place. Grandpa noticed her low spirits and never blamed her. Every day, he gently invited her to tour around the village, yet Chesa always made up excuses to stay inside alone, wrapped in her negative mood. One afternoon, Chesa sat alone on the back porch, staring blankly at the messy yard, feeling regretful and lonely for being so cold to her kind grandpa. She wondered whether she would ever find the “oasis” she had long dreamed of. Slowly, Grandpa walked over and invited Chesa for a village tour on his motorcycle. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ From that unforgettable ride, Chesa finally understood the true meaning of an oasis. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】【参考范文】 Slowly, Grandpa walked over and invited Chesa for a village tour on his motorcycle. Hesitantly, she agreed, not wanting to hurt his sincere heart. As the old motorcycle moved slowly along the country road, a brand-new world unfolded before her eyes. Golden rice fields waved gently in the breeze, and clear streams ran quietly through the village. Local villagers greeted them warmly with big smiles, filling the peaceful countryside with warmth. Grandpa pointed at every corner of the village, sharing his sweet childhood memories and simple life stories. Listening patiently, Chesa gradually let go of her prejudice and disappointment. She began to feel the unique beauty and tranquility of this land. From that unforgettable ride, Chesa finally understood the true meaning of an oasis. An oasis was not a perfect, fancy place she had imagined blindly. Instead, it referred to the warmth of family affection and the simple happiness hidden in ordinary life. Ashamed of her previous selfish attitude, Chesa held Grandpa’s hand tightly. In the following days, she actively experienced local life, tasted traditional food and chatted with villagers happily. This precious journey taught her a profound lesson: true beauty lies in love and warmth rather than superficial appearances. 词类激活 行为类 ①展现:unfold/emerge/reveal ②放弃:let go of/abandon 情绪类 ①犹豫地:hesitantly/reluctantly ②羞愧的:ashamed/guilty 【点睛】【高分句型1】As the old motorcycle moved slowly along the country road, a brand-new world unfolded before her eyes.(运用了as引导的时间状语从句) 【高分句型 Mister smith, could I move my seat to the front? The three stories shop consists of nine thousand bricks, with each floor taking me about two months to complete. IT wasn't a fast build, but the process was satisfying. The ground floor includes a tall bookshelf along with desks and colorful books. The next floor up focuses on musical instruments, with a grand piano taking center stage and sheet music for piano, guitar and violin displayed on the walls. As part of a collection on the top floor, you'll find the clock makers workshop features grandfather clock, coco clock, alarm clock and carriage clocks, highlighting the passage of time. This antique store was inspired by the life of my late grandfather. He was a passionate collector and crafts man, once a clock maker and skilled in many musical instruments. The objects inside reflect his lifelong interests and the treasures he gathered during his travels. I hope this creation will be enjoyed and appreciated by people all over the world. B Growing up in America as a child of first-generation Chinese immigrants, I was used to living in two worlds. C In recent years, eco-conscious gardening has gained popularity. D When unethical (不道德的) behavior is criticized, demands are often met with defensiveness and denial. The integration of AI into education is rapidly shifting from theoretical discussion to practical application. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
