On October 30th, 2024, China sent the Shenzhou XIX spaceship into space. Wang Haoze, a member of the Shenzhou XIX, is China’s first female spaceflight engineer.
Wang Haoze shared, “Many partners helped me. But it was my college teacher, Gu Fan, who led me to a career in the space. He had a strong interest in spaceflight and often talked about it with us, encouraging us to work for the space industry.”
After she left school, Wang worked on developing new models of rocket engines (引擎). It was a new field that she had never explored before. Facing new challenges, she enjoyed learning and overcoming difficulties, just like playing an interesting game.
Hard work and perseverance (坚持不懈) always pay off. Her first design was praised by a famous expert, making her an important part of her team. She later signed up for the selection process to determine the country’s third batch of astronauts. Finally, Wang and other seventeen men were chosen. In the course of the training, Wang met many hard challenges, but she never thought about giving up.
Looking ahead to her first journey in space, Wang said, “We have practiced our moves on the ground many times. I want to fly to the space as soon as possible to see what it looks like. I wish to float (飘) inside Tiangong to experience the weightlessness. I also hope that I can complete each task successfully and make our ‘space home’ better.”

Think of some great minds you like. You will probably find that their success didn’t come easily. As “Father of Hybrid Rice(杂交水稻) ”, Yuan Longping got over great difficulties and spent his whole life working to increase rice production and helping to feed the country with the largest population.
Wu Mengchao, the “Father of Chinese Hepatobiliary Surgery(肝胆外科) ”, focused on saving people’s lives for nearly eighty years. He did more than 16,000 operations during his life. Holding the surgeon’s knife for such a long time deformed his fingers, but he still kept doing operations. Wu once said, “It would be my greatest happiness if I could work at the operating table until the last moment of my life.”
In 1969, in order to solve the problem of treating malaria(疟疾), Tu Youyou, worked as head of a research team. They did different kinds of experiments. However, the results were not satisfactory. Instead of giving up, they kept trying. Finally, in 1972, they made it! In 2015, at the age of 85, she received the Nobel Prize.
Thomas Edison, the inventor of the light bulb believed that every failure was a step towards success. He once said, “If I find 10,000 ways that won’t work, I haven’t failed. I am not discouraged, because every wrong try is another step forward. ”
Sometimes, their success was a surprise, even to themselves, even after a long time of their hard work. The famous scientist Alexander Fleming said, “When I woke up just after daybreak on 28th September, 1928, I just began another busy day with my research as I did many days and nights before. And I certainly didn’t plan to make a great difference to all medicine by discovering the world’s first antibiotic(抗生素). But I guess that was exactly what I did.”
Some people only became successful after their deaths. The artist Vincent Van Gogh only sold one painting all through his life and that was to a friend. But he kept painting and he painted more than 2,000 artworks in the following ten years. Now his paintings are very popular and they sell for millions of pounds.
One thing all these people have in common is that they never give up and stick to their goals no matter what happens.

A. changing the shape of his fingers B. making his fingers stronger
C. making his fingers quicker D. cutting off his fingers

A. felt so tired that he couldn’t stay awake
B. planned to study all kinds of medicine
C. knew exactly what his success meant
D. had no idea he was going to make it

B. Tu Youyou’s team spent about 3 years solving the malaria problem.
C. Thomas Edison tried 10,000 ways before inventing the light bulb.
D. Vincent Van Gogh painted 2,001 artworks during his whole life.

① Sitting through a family dinner, your uncle suddenly starts talking about different topics like an expert (专家). But everything he knows is from TikTok. After exams, one classmate is sure to do well. But he ends up with far lower marks than expected. Sounds familiar? This kind of behavior is called the Dunning-Kruger effect.
② In 1995, a man named Wheeler robbed a bank with lemon juice on his face. He believed it would make him not be seen. This story inspired two psychologists David Dunning and Justin Kruger to do some experiments. They asked people to tell how well they did in certain tasks. The results showed people with poor skills often thought they did much better than they actually did. They failed to see their own shortcomings, which made them too confident.
③ Later, people used a simple graph (图表) to show this effect. It clearly tells us the link between our actual knowledge and our self-confidence. When we know very little about something, our confidence rises to quite a high point. We may even believe we know everything. Digging deeper, we begin to realize how difficult the topic truly is, and our confidence drops. At this point, we start questioning ourselves. Only when we keep learning can our ability and confidence rise in a healthy way.
④ This is not just a psychological phenomenon (现象) for strangers or uncles at dinner—it is a mistake that everyone may easily fall into. Have you ever laughed at your classmates’ mistakes without realizing your own? Have you ever turned a deaf ear to others’ advice because you thought you knew better? Have you ever felt fully prepared, only to be shocked by the final result? If so, you are having it too.
⑤ Dear graduates of 2026, as you are stepping into senior high and then a wider world, remember that real growth lies in the courage to be modest. Always remember to learn, feel, and listen, and you will surely shine brighter in the years ahead.
32. Which sentence might be said by the uncle in Paragraph ①?
A. “I’m not sure. You’d better go and ask a teacher about this.”
B. “Oranges are good for the skin? Let’s check more articles.”
C. “This accident has many causes. I may not know the truth.”
D. “This war would end fast if they just listened to me.”
33. What do the experiments by Dunning and Kruger show?
A. Most people can see their shortcomings, more or less.
B. Less skilled people often think highly of themselves.
C. A person can tell how well he or she finishes a task.
D. Lemon juice doesn’t work for hiding people’s bodies.
34. Who is most likely to be at Point D in the graph?
A. A student who starts to doubt himself after a period of learning.
B. A person who feels confident after taking the first driving lesson.
C. A math teacher who feels very lost in the beginning of his teaching.
D. An experienced doctor who keeps learning for many years at work.
35. Which of the following can be put in the third box of the structure?
A. Listing more results. B. Sharing scientific facts.
C. Connecting with readers. D. Discussing different ideas.

After he learned more about the local guitar, he fell in love with playing it. The guitar became one of his best friends in life and he almost went everywhere with his guitar.

“Xizang music is something that can take sadness away from us. I don’t know what will happen in the future, but I’m so proud to have the chance to introduce it to the world. I really hope more people will come and enjoy Xizang’s special culture themselves.” Samdrub Norbu smiled.
