Many people love going to the movies or watching their favorite movies at home. Now, let’s learn some facts about movies. Movies started in the late 1800s. In the early days, they were just short little clips (电影片段) that only lasted a minute or two. People would go to movie theaters and watch one or two of these short clips. Nowadays, most movies are about 2 hours long and have become more popular and exciting. Today, movies are a huge business. The most expensive movie ever cost over $300 million to produce! Most movies, though, cost between 20 and 100 million dollars to make. Some movies are such a big hit that they make a ton of money at the box office (票房). The most successful movie of all time made over 2,700,000,000 dollars! That sum could buy a private island. Some other movies, however, end up in total failure and lose lots of money. A lot of work goes into making a movie. Writers have to come up with a good story, and directors must tell that story using cameras, actors, and special effects. It’s a big team project. Actors are also an important part of the movie. Many people want to be movie stars. A few actors have become famous and rich. But the movie business is also competitive, so quite a few of them fail to stand out or make real progress. Movies are a big part of our culture. They bring us joy and excitement and have a way of touching our hearts. That’s why we say “the show must go on”—movies will always be a part of our lives. 16. How were the movies in the late 1800s different from the modern ones? A. They were shorter. B. They were louder. C. They were more popular. D. They were more exciting. 17. Why does the writer use the numbers in Paragraph 3? A. To show that movies are very popular. B. To show that movies are a huge business. C. To show that the movie business has a long history. D. To show that the movie business has a bright future. 18. Which of the following ideas may the writer agree with? A. Private islands are great places to make movies. B. Most movies can make a lot of money at the box office. C. Directors are the most important people in making a movie. D. A good movie needs a lot of people’s hard work. 19. What does the sentence “the show must go on” probably mean in the passage? A. Movie production should never stop. B. People must keep going to movie theaters. C. Movies will continue to be important in our lives. D. Actors should continue to perform even when facing difficulties. 20. Which of the following shows the structure of the passage? (①= Paragraph 1,②= Paragraph 2…) A. B. C. D. 【答案】16. A 17. B 18. D 19. C 20. 根据文章第二段“In the early days, they were just short little clips that only lasted a minute or two.” 故选A。 第三段开头提到“Today, movies are a huge business.”,随后用“over $300 million”“between 20 and 100 million dollars”等具体数字,来佐证电影行业的商业规模和价值。 根据第四段“A lot of work goes into making a movie. Writers have to come up with a good story, directors must tell that story using cameras, actors, and special effects. It’s a big team project.” 根据前文“Movies are a big part of our culture. They bring us joy and excitement and have a way of touching our hearts.” 以及后文 “movies will always be a part of our lives”可知,“the show must go on”在这里是指电影将继续在我们的生活中扮演重要角色。 C Imagine wearing a virtual reality (VR) headset (虚拟现实头显) and seeing a delicious ice cream in front of you. What if you could “taste” it without taking a bite? You can’t feel the coldness in your mouth, but you can taste its sweetness thanks to a tasting device (设备). Scientists created a new device known as the e-Taste. It could make the VR experience even more real. To use the device, the users need to wear it in the mouth. The device has five different chemicals (化学物质) inside. It can mix these chemicals to recreate the tastes of different food or drinks. Then the device sends the taste directly to the user’s tongue. To test their device, the scientists let users wear it. Then users “tasted” different food and drinks with the device. After that, there was a list of possible names for them to choose from. The choices were cake, coffee, fish soup, fried egg, and lemonade. Users easily guessed the tastes of cake and lemonade. However, they had a harder time telling the difference between the rest. While the device still needs improvement, it makes virtual food experiences possible. It could also help people without a sense of taste. More importantly, the device could give scientists new ideas and help them learn about how the brain understands information from the mouth. 21. How does the writer start the passage? A. By describing a situation. B. By telling a story. C. By giving opinions. D. By listing numbers. 22. What is the e-Taste device able to do? A. To make real food or drinks. B. To store over five different chemicals. C. To mix tastes of all food or drinks. D. To let users taste virtual food or drinks. 23. What is the main idea of Paragraph 2? A. How users wear the e-Taste. B. How the e-Taste works. C. How many tastes the e-Taste recreates. D. How the e-Taste sends tastes. 24. What is the correct order for testing the device in Paragraph 3? ① guess the tastes ② wear the device ③ “taste” different food and drinks A. ①②③ B. ②①③ C. ②③① D. ③①② 25. According to the sentence “It could also help people without a sense of taste.” in Paragraph 4, the e-Taste device will be probably used for ________ in the future. A. medical treatment B. balanced meals C. chemical experiments D. weight management 【答案】21. A 22. D 23. B 24. C 25. 【21题详解】 第一段提到“Imagine wearing a virtual reality (VR) headset... and seeing a delicious ice cream in front of you.”,这直接说明了作者通过描述一个具体的虚拟情境来引入话题。 【22题详解】 第二段提到“It can mix these chemicals to recreate the tastes of different foods or drinks. Then the device sends the taste directly to the user’s tongue.”,这直接说明了e-Taste设备能让用户品尝到虚拟的食物或饮料。 【23题详解】 第二段提到“The device has five different chemicals inside. It can mix these chemicals... Then the device sends the taste...” 【24题详解】 第三段提到“To test their device, the scientists let users wear it. Then users ‘tasted’ different food and drinks... Users easily guessed the tastes...”,这直接说明了测试的顺序是:先佩戴设备(②),然后“品尝”不同食物 (③),最后猜测味道 (①)。 【25题详解】 第四段提到“It could also help people without a sense of taste.”,失去味觉属于生理缺陷或疾病范畴,帮助这类人群属于医疗辅助领域,这直接说明了该设备未来可能用于医疗治疗。 D Zheng Chenggong (1624—1662), also known as Koxinga, is best known for setting up Chinese control over Taiwan. Zheng was born in Hirado, Japan to a Japanese mother and a Chinese father. His father was given an official position by the Ming Dynasty, so the family moved to Fujian Province at seven. Zheng was given a Confucian education in Nanjing in 1644. The next year, the Ming Dynasty gave way to the Qing Dynasty. When the Qing Dynasty forces entered Fujian, his father surrendered (投降). But Zheng, being against his father’s orders, made up his mind to rebuild the Ming Dynasty and began to build up land and naval (海军的) forces. Over the next 12 years, Zheng had built a strong position on the Fujian coast, centred on the islands of Xiamen and Jinmen. In 1659, Zheng carried out one of his most important actions. With a force of more than 100,000 up the Yangtze River, he succeeded. There, however, wrong decisions led to a terrible loss. Facing increasing pressure, he hit upon the plan of taking Taiwan from the Dutch (荷兰人). In 1661, he landed on Taiwan and fought for nine months. At last, the Dutch surrendered and left Tainan. Zheng then set up a governing system, settled the island with his soldiers and families from Fujian and spread Chinese culture. His larger goals were cut short by his death in 1662. At last, Zheng’s plans failed, but he became amazingly popular all over the world. In Japan, the famous play, The battles of Koxinga (1715), made Zheng well known to Japanese. In Europe, Zheng was famous for driving the Dutch away. In China, he soon became a popular spirit and cultural hero to the early Chinese in Taiwan. On the official level, in 1875 the Qing government recognised him as a symbol of loyalty (忠诚) and built a temple to honour him in Taiwan. Today, Zheng Chenggong is still remembered as a national hero in Chinese history. 26. What is Zheng Chenggong best known for? A. Raising a powerful navy in Fujian. B. Fighting against the Qing Dynasty. C. Taking control of Taiwan for China. D. Building many temples in Fujian. 27. What is the right order of the following events about Zheng Chenggong? ① He built a strong position on the Fujian coast. ② He received traditional education in Nanjing. ③ He decided to fight against the Qing Dynasty. ④ He drove the Dutch away with his soldiers. A. ②③①④ B. ②①④③ C. ①②④③ D. ③②①④ 28. How does the writer show the popularity of Zheng Chenggong in the last paragraph? A. By listing numbers. B. By giving examples. C. By making comparisons. D. By telling a short story. 29. What’s the best title for this passage? A. The Rise and Fall of Dynasties B. A Final Battle against the Dutch C. The Man Who Took Back Taiwan D. The History of Ming and Qing Dynasties 【答案】26. C 27. A 28. B 29. In Japan… In Europe…In China…On the official level…” Useful Ways to Improve Your Memory Poor memory troubles plenty of students. B项“What's wrong with you?”(你怎么了?) 结合选项,C项“It's a good way to relax yourself.”(这是一个放松自己的好方法)直接补充说明了阅读的作用,与上文“try some reading to relax”形成呼应。 【37题详解】 B对A的建议表示认同“I know.”(我知道),但紧接着用“But...” 后文A回答“You don't need to finish long books.”(你不需要读完长篇的书),说明B的困难与读书的时间或书籍的长度有关。A项“But I don't have enough time for reading.”(但是我没有足够的时间阅读)起到了转折并引出下文的作用。 结合后文“You don't need to finish long books.”(你不需要读完长篇的书),E项“Why not read some short stories on weekends?”(为什么不在周末读一些短篇故事呢?) 【39题详解】 A回答“About two. I only read for half an hour each time.”(大约两本。 因此B针对这个回答提出了疑问,D项“How many books do you read every month?”(你每个月读多少本书?) Children are amazing! Hanfu was first created by Han people. Its color, style and even the length are about Chinese culture. Hanfu first appeared in the Shang Dynasty over 3,000 years ago. It was popular for a long time in Chinese history from the Qin Dynasty to the Ming Dynasty. At the start of the Qing Dynasty, however, it lost its popularity. With people turning their interest to traditional culture, Hanfu has been enjoyed more greatly in recent years. Qipao became popular in the 1920s and remained as the “national clothing” until the 1950s. At first, people made it wide, covering most parts of the body. Yet it was not beautiful and people wanted a more beautiful kind of clothing. So in the 1930s, people made the traditional Qipao tight to show the beauty of a woman’s body. Now, lots of women still like to wear it. The Chinese tunic suit (中山装) looked simple but good, so it quickly became popular among Chinese men in the mid-20th century. Although other kinds of clothing have taken its place now, leaders of China still wear it when going to important events. ____50____ Chinese Clothing Hanfu In the past Han people ____51____ Hanfu. B. C. D. C Imagine wearing a virtual reality (VR) headset (虚拟现实头显) and seeing a delicious ice cream in front of you. A. medical treatment B. balanced meals C. chemical experiments D. weight management D Zheng Chenggong (1624—1662), also known as Koxinga, is best known for setting up Chinese control over Taiwan. B.
