Finally came Wednesday! I walked onto campus feeling nervous even though I had walked on these same grounds for two years because my junior high school is next door. Everything looked and felt different now that I was in senior high.
I looked at my schedule. First period-German. Our German teacher was very friendly and I liked her from the beginning. What I didn’t like, though, was that I was surrounded by students from other grades, with only five familiar faces.
Then I had to walk all the way across campus and up three flights of stairs to get to my second period-biology. Our biology teacher is Ms Campeau, and I think that she will teach us a lot this year because she is very to the point. She also has her unique way of saying be quiet; she says“alligator”. She explained that she is the king, or should I say queen, of the class because alligators are the “king of the swamps (沼泽)”.
My third class was English. After surviving two periods without too much of a challenge, I began to feel good. However, the third period changed everything. Mr Valassidis, my English teacher, told us that we would have to write 40 essays (文章) and read AP-level books such as The 0dyssey this year. I love reading and writing, but 40ESSA YS?AP-level books? Now I was scared. He also talked about how important it was to be focused. Last year was not a very “focused” year for me. While doing homework, I was often talking on the phone, or busy with a conversation online. I planned on stepping it up this year because I wanted to stay an honours student.
4. What did the author mainly write about in this passage?
A. Her new teachers.
B. Her plan for the new year.
C. Her first day of senior high.
D. Her schedule for Wednesday.
5. What should students do when Ms Campeau says“alligator”?
A. Sit still. B. Stop talking.
C. Look at the blackboard. D. Listen carefully.
6. How did the author find her first two classes?
A. Unattractive. B. Informative.
C. Very tiring. D. Pretty easy.
7. Why did the author feel scared during the third period?
A. She couldn’t focus on her work.
B. She found the class demanding.
C. She didn’t like the teacher.
D. She did poorly at school.
【答案】4. C 5. B 6. D 7. B
【解析】

【5题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段“She also has her unique way of saying be quiet; she says “alligator”.(她也有自己独特的表达“安静”的方式;她说“鳄鱼”)”可知,当Compeau老师说“alligator”时,就表明她在要求大家安静,同学们就应该停止说话。故选B。
【6题详解】
细节理解题。根据最后一段“After surviving two periods without too much of a challenge, I began to feel good.(前两门课都没有太大挑战性,我感觉还不错)”可知,作者感觉前两门课不难。故选D。
【7题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段“Mr Valassidis, my English teacher, told us that we would have to write 40 essays (文章) and read AP-level books such as The Odyssey this year. I love reading and writing, but 40 ESSAYS?AP-level books? Now I was scared.(我的英语老师Valassidis先生告诉我们,今年我们必须写40篇文章,并阅读像《奥德赛》(The Odyssey)这样的AP级书籍。我喜欢阅读和写作,但40篇散文?AP-level书?现在我害怕了)”可推知,作者担心这门课的原因是这门课的要求很高。故选B。

The idea of turning recycled plastic bottles into clothing is not new. During the past five years, a large number of clothing companies, businesses and environmental organizations have started turning plastics into clothing to deal with plastic pollution. But there’s a problem with this method. Research now shows that microfibers(微纤维)could be the biggest source of plastic in the sea.
Dr. Mark Browne in Santa Barbara, California, has been studying plastic pollution and microfibers for 10 years. He explains that every time synthetic(合成)clothes go into a washing machine, a large number of plastic fibers fall off. Most washing machines can’t collect these microfibers. So every time the water gets out of a washing machine, microfibers enter the sewer and finally end up in the sea.
In 2011, Browne wrote a paper stating that a single piece of synthetic clothing can produce more than 1,900 fibers per wash. Browne collected samples(样本)from seawater and freshwater sites around the world, and used a special way to examine each sample. He discovered that every single water sample contained microfibers.
This is bad news for a number of reasons. Plastic can cause harm to sea life when eaten. Studies have also shown that plastic can take in other pollutants.
Based on this evidence, it may seem surprising that companies and organizations have chosen to turn plastic waste into clothing as an environmental “solution”. Ever though the science has been around for a while, Browne explains that he’s had a difficult time getting companies to listen. When he asked well-known clothing companies to support “Benign by Design”, his research project, which is trying to get clothes that have a bad effect on humans and the environment out of the market, Browne didn’t get a satisfying answer. Only one woman’s clothing company, Eileen Fisher, offered Browne funding.
8. What can we learn from the first paragraph?
A. New microfibers have been discovered.
B. Making clothes from plastic bottles can’t solve the pollution.
C. The use of plastic bottle has been reduced in the past five years.
D. Turning recycled plastic bottles into clothing hasn’t been put into practice.
9. What’s the main idea of the second paragraph?
A. How to wash synthetic clothes.
B. How to prevent plastic pollution.
C. How microfibers end up in the sea.
D. Relationship between synthetic clothes and microfibers.
10. How does Browne’s Benign by Design research project run?
A. It has achieved great success.
B. It is facing some difficulties.
C. It is supported by many firms.
D. It hasn’t got anything done.
11. What’s the best title for the text?
A. Recycled plastic clothing: solution or pollution?
B. The impact of Microfibers on the sea.
C. Environmental protection: moving forward or backward?
D. Turning plastic into clothing, a new step in environmental protection.
【答案】8. B 9. C 10. B 11. A

A medical breakthrough in China is giving new hope to people with spinal cord injuries (脊髓损伤). Scientists have created a brain-spinal chip (芯片) that allows paralyzed (瘫痪的) patients to move their legs, and even walk again.
The chip, only 1mm wide, is designed to be fitted into the brain and spinal cord. If the natural communication between the brain and muscles (肌肉) is lost, this chip becomes the bridge. When the chips work, they create a direct connection between the brain and muscles.
The results have been amazing. A 34-year-old man, paralyzed after a fall, could move his legs just one day after the operation on January 8, 2025. Two weeks later, he walked five meters with help. Three other patients had similar operations in February and March, all getting better within weeks. Even though the patients’ nervous systems were damaged (受损), the chips helped them walk again. This marks a big step in China’s progress in medical science and it brings hope for over 3.7 million people in China.
“This is just the beginning,” Jia, the lead researcher, says. “With the technology, these people may one day leave wheelchairs behind after 3 to 5 years of training.”
Behind this achievement is a long journey of careful research and bold thinking. It took the researchers over 10 years to develop the chip. They tested it on animals first, and then on people. They faced many challenges, yet they never gave up. Step by step, they developed a system to reconnect the mind and body in ways once appearing only in science fiction.
As the chip continues to improve, it lights a new path forward—one built on science, shaped by care, and aimed toward a brighter future.
12. What do we know about the chips mentioned in the passage?
A. They are only as wide as 2 mm. B. They are fitted into the man’s arms.
C. They help the patients walk again. D. They improve the patients’ memory.
13. Which of the following meanings is suitable for the underlined word “bold”?
bold /bəʊld/ adj.
1. PERSON/ACTION not afraid of taking risks and making difficult decisions:
He had the ability to take bold imaginative decisions.
2. COLOURS/SHAPES very strong or bright so that you notice them:
Stripes are bold, bright, and fun to wear.
3. LINES/WRITING written or drawn in a very clear way:
The print should be bold and easy to read.
4. PRINTED LETTERS printed in letters that are darker and thicker than ordinary printed letters:
All the headings are in bold type.
(From the dictionary)
A. 1. B. 2. C. 3. D. 4.
14. What is the writer’s main reason for writing this passage?

Anxious about living with your roommate? Roommate conflicts (冲突) are part of many people’s college experiences. They are common.____16____However, with a little communication and skills, it doesn’t have to be the end of the roommate-relationship.
____17____Find a space, and think about what is annoying you. Is your roommate not respecting your things? Making too much noise? Instead of writing down “last week, she ate all of my food again,” try to think this way, “she doesn’t respect my stuff, although I have reminded myself” — try to find out the exact problem.
Then, talk to your roommate at a time that’s good for both of you. It’s a good idea to try to set the time in advance, so you can work out what’s going on between two of you. For example, ask if you can talk when you are both done with morning classes on Wednesday, on Saturday, etc. It is very likely that you roommate knows you want to have a talk.____18____
When you are talking about your anxiety, don’t verbally (语言上) attack your roommate.____19____For example, instead of saying, “I can’t believe how impolite you are when...,” try saying, “It really annoys me that you borrow my clothes without asking.” Meanwhile, try to listen to your roommate’s thoughts. He may have some reasons behind what’s going on.
If things just aren’t working out after the talks, it’s not the end of the world. It doesn’t mean you or your roommate did anything wrong. Some people just don’t live well together!____20____One of you just needs to change a room.
A. Get clear about your problems.
B. And they can be extremely terrible.
C. They just don’t respect each other.

根据上文“Anxious about living with your roommate? Roommate conflicts (冲突) are part of many people’s college experiences. They are common.(担心与室友同住吗?室友之间的冲突是许多大学生经历中的常见现象。这种情况很普遍)”可知,前文提到“室友矛盾很常见”,后文用“though”转折,强调“掌握技巧就能改善关系”,中间需衔接“矛盾可能很糟糕”,形成“常见→可能很糟→但可改善”的逻辑链。故B选项“而且它们可能会极其糟糕”符合语境,故选B。
【17题详解】
根据后文“Find a space, and think about what is annoying you. Is your roommate not respecting your things? Making too much noise? Instead of writing down “last week, she ate all of my food again,” try to think this way, “she doesn’t respect my stuff, although I have reminded myself” — try to find out the exact problem.(找一个安静的地方,然后思考一下让你感到烦恼的事情是什么。
根据上文“Then, talk to your roommate at a time that’s good for both of you. It’s a good idea to try to set the time in advance, so you can work out what’s going on between two of you.
C
