1. persuade  vt.说服；劝说；使相信 (persuasive adj.有说服力的persuasion n.说服)

Eg For example，the phrase in my opinion tells us that the passage is likely meant to persuade.例如，短语in my opinion告诉我们这篇文章可能意在说服。

persuade sb to do sth      

Persuade sb into doing sth     说服某人做某事

persuade sb not to do sth  

persuade sb out of doing sth    说服某人不做某事

persuade sb of sth 

persuade sb that     使某人相信某事

注意：persuade表示“说服”，强调说服的结果；advise表示“劝说，建议”，对方不一定接受，强调动作。“劝说但不一定有效果”应表述为advise sb to do sth 或try to persuade sb to do sth。

Eg The patient professor finally persuaded him out of wasting his precious time playing computer games.那位有耐心的教授终于说服他不要把宝贵的时间浪费在玩电脑游戏上。

Eg I hold the strong belief that you can persuade your parents to permit you to cook/persuade your parents into permitting you to cook if you take the above suggestions. 我坚信，如果你接受上面的建议，你可以说服你的父母允许你做饭。

2. switch vt. 转换；交换 vi.&vt.(使)改变；转变 n. 开关；转换器；改变

switch on 开（电灯、机器等）；switch off 关（电灯、机器等）

switch sth. with sb. 和某人交换某物

switch (from …) to … (从……)往……转变

Eg We asked them if they would switch places with us.我们问他们是否愿意和我们换位置。

Eg Mary can switch easily from French to English.玛丽能轻松地从法语切换到英语。

3. secure adj. 安全的；安心的 vt.(尤指经过努力)获得；实现；使牢靠；保护，使安全（security n. 保护措施；安全工作；securely adv. 安全地；可靠地；insecure adj. 不安全的；insecurity n. 不安全）

feel / be secure about 对……感到安心

secure sb against / from sth. 保证某人免遭某事（多用于灾害、损失、危险等）

a secure job / income 稳定的工作/收入

a sense of security安全感        for security reasons 出于安全考虑

4. preference n.爱好；偏爱(prefer vt.更喜欢；较喜欢)

Eg Your home will also learn your daily routine and preferences，so everything will be ready for you when you get home each evening.你的住宅还能了解你的日程安排和喜好，所以每天晚上你回到家时，一切都已经准备就绪。

have a preference for偏爱；更喜欢……

prefer (doing) A to (doing) B　与(做)B相比更喜欢(做)A

prefer to do A rather than do B　宁愿做A也不愿做B

Eg To keep physically healthy, I prefer opening the windows to switching on the air conditioner.为了保持身体健康，我更喜欢开窗而不是开空调。

Eg Given that we have a preference for English literature/prefer English literature，could you please share its main features with us? 鉴于我们更喜欢英国文学，您能和我们分享它的主要特点吗？

5. command n.命令；指令；控制；(尤指对语言的)掌握 vt.命令；控制

Eg All controls will respond to voice commands, so if you want to change your routine，you just say aloud what you want and the home system will obey. 所有的控制器都将响应语音指令，因此如果你想要改变日程安排，你只需大声说出你的想法，家居系统就会照办。

注意：command后跟同位语从句、表语从句或宾语从句时，从句中的谓语动词用虚拟语气“(should) do”。

6. available adj. 可获得的；可购得的；（人）有空的（常在句子中作表语）

(unavailable adj. 无法得到的；availability n. 可获得性；有空)

be available to do sth. 可以做某事 

be available to / for sb. 对某人来说是可获得的

available resources / information / opportunities / options

Eg In the 1940s, electricity was available to the people in almost all areas of the United States.

Eg With all information available, they found the hotel in the mountain easily.

Eg I will be available next weekend, when I will take my children to the science museum.

7. in this sense 从这种意义上说

In this sense，the home of tomorrow is already the home of today. 从这个意义上说，明日之家已经是今日之家。

make sense有道理；讲得通         

make sense of理解；明白

make no sense讲不通；没有意义     

in a sense在某种意义上

in no sense决不(置于句首时，句子用部分倒装)

There’s no/little sense (in) doing sth.做某事没有/几乎没有意义。

Eg It can be inferred that what he said just now doesn’t make sense.＝It can be inferred that what he said just now makes no sense.

Eg There is no sense in founding the organisation before we get public support.

8. occupation n.职业；占领(occupy vt.占据；占用；使忙碌occupied adj.被占领的；被占用的；忙于；occupational adj. 职业的；)

occupy oneself with sth/in doing sth 忙于(做)某事；专心于(做)某事

be occupied with sth/ in doing sth 忙于(做)某事

Eg Occupied (in) preparing for the College Entrance Examination/Occupying myself (in) preparing for the College Entrance Examination，I am terribly sorry not to reply to your last letter in an instant.由于我忙于准备高考，我很抱歉没有马上回复你的上一封信。
