B As we grow up, it becomes natural for us to lose contact with the hobbies that once were important in our lives. While it’s painful to accept this, the new reality becomes normal for most of us as we face new academic, adult and job responsibilities. I’ve been dancing since I was four and I plan to continue dancing in college. However, I’ve always feared that dancing will affect my study and eventually become a happy memory of my childhood. After learning about Sommer Gentry's story, I had an answer. Sommer Gentry, previously a professor of mathematics at the United States Naval Academy and a coach at the Naval Academy’s Swing Dance Club, is currently a teacher at NYU Grossman School of Medicine. Gentry and her husband also started a swing dance community to introduce non-dancers to swing dance. Through teaching, Gentry was inspired to view dancing from an engineering point of view. She said, “I realized it is an engineering question: How do you dance well with someone? It’d be great to give people mathematical and engineering proofs that they have to dance the way I say.” Gentry investigated the complex haptic (触觉的) communication behind the moves in swing dance and showed that two persons could move in coordination (协调) with pure haptic communication. She entered an exciting area of research which is about engineering, psychology and human motor control. It’s incredibly inspiring that Gentry was able to intertwine her academic work with her love for dancing. Gentry said, “It means that even when I'm dancing outside, I’m thinking about my research project.” Gentry found that digging into her academic interest does not mean letting go of her other non-academic ones. Instead, she found a way to include both in her professional life. Just like me, Gentry is a mathematician and dancer, thus, her story resonates (引起共鸣) strongly with me, and I want to be like her in the future. 4. What did the author think of dancing before learning of Gentry's story? A. It was too challenging for her. B. It might disappear from her life. C. It helped her improve academic performance. D. It developed her sense of responsibility. 5. According to the fourth paragraph, which of the following best summarizes the main idea? A. Gentry chose academics over dancing. B. Gentry gave up dancing due to its irrelevance to her research. C. Dancing has no connection to engineering or psychology for Gentry. D. Gentry viewed dancing as an engineering problem. 6. What does the underlined word in paragraph 5 probably mean? A. Hardly balance. B. Carefully compare. C. Closely combine. D. Successfully challenge. 7. What can we infer about the author from the last paragraph? A. She has decided to change her major. B. She will continue to pursue her hobby. C. She used to be Sommer Gentry's student. D. She originally had little interest in engineering. B 5. D 6. C 7. 根据第二段中的“However, I’ve always feared that dancing will affect my study and eventually become a happy memory of my childhood. 根据第四段中的“Through teaching, Gentry was inspired to view dancing from an engineering point of view. She said, “I realized it is an engineering question: How do you dance well with someone? It’d be great to give people mathematical and engineering proofs that they have to dance the way I say.” 根据第五段中的“It’s incredibly inspiring that Gentry was able to intertwine her academic work with her love for dancing.(令人难以置信的是,金特里能够将她的学术工作与她对舞蹈的热爱intertwine在一起。)”以及下文金特里所说的话“It means that even when I'm dancing outside, I'm thinking about my research project. 根据最后一段中的“Just like me, Gentry is a mathematician and dancer, thus, her story resonates (引起共鸣) strongly with me, and I want to be like her in the future. C Start reading recent internet conversations about AI, and you’ll find a topic that surfaces with increasing frequency: ChatGPT delivered lifesaving medical advice. “Three weeks ago I woke up from a nap and found some red spots all over my legs,” begins one such account in a video from Bethany Crystal, who lives in New York. After an exchange with ChatGPT, it told her, “You need immediate evaluation for possible bleeding risk.” “What followed was a terrible three-day experience that got increasingly scary,” says Crystal, who was eventually diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disorder. She says she may not have gone to the emergency room in time if ChatGPT had not been insistent. Hundreds of millions of people now consult ChatGPT weekly for wellness advice, according to its maker, OpenAI. In early January, the company announced the launch of a new platform, ChatGPT Health, which it says offers enhanced security for sharing medical records and data. It joins other AI tools such as My Doctor Friend in promising to partner with patients on navigating health care. Many patients describe using different AI platforms to help with daily management of health as a complement (补充) to advice from medical professionals. Sixty-year-old Burt Rosen uses AI to help manage symptoms and treatment for the cancer he’s been diagnosed with. He frequently shows AI test results and asks it to translate them into comprehensible English. Rosen says AI has changed the relationship he has with his doctor. “When I go into a doctor’s appointment, I no longer need him to explain much to me,” he says. “My doctor’s appointment is much more of an action-planning session.” Of course, AI is not a replacement for a doctor. Doctors say that without clinical oversight (监督), misdiagnosis, misleading advice, or human misunderstanding are significant problems. Despite these hazards, they are optimistic about the contributions AI can make to health care and believes the benefits will eventually outweigh the dangers, if they don’t already. 8. What does Bethany Crystal’s case in paragraph 2 indicate? A. The popularity of ChatGPT. B. The significance of regular checkups. C. The lack of medical knowledge. D. The value of AI-aided medical diagnosis. 9. What do we know about ChatGPT Health? A. Its users’ privacy is better protected. B. It provides better health care than doctors. C. It has 100 million registered users. D. It is used as a tool by My Doctor Friend. 10. What impact has AI brought to Rosen? A. It improves the cure rate for his disease. B. It reduces his trust in medical personnel. C. It offers him real-time translation at the doctor’s. D. It changes the way he communicates with his doctor. 11. What does the underlined word “hazards” in paragraph 5 mean? A. Virtues. B. Risks. C. Signs. D. Reminders. D 9. A 10. D 11. 根据第二段“After an exchange with ChatGPT, it told her, “You need immediate evaluation for possible bleeding risk.” “What followed was a terrible three day experience that got increasingly scary,” says Crystal, who was eventually diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disorder. She says she may not have gone to the emergency room in time if ChatGPT had not been insistent. 根据第三段“In early January, the company announced the launch of a new platform, ChatGPT Health, which it says offers enhanced security for sharing medical records and data. 根据第四段“Rosen says AI has changed the relationship he has with his doctor. “When I go into a doctor’s appointment, I no longer need him to explain much to me,” he says. “My doctor’s appointment is much more of an action- planning session.” 根据第五段“Of course, AI is not a replacement for a doctor. Doctors say that without clinical oversight (监督), misdiagnosis, misleading advice, or human misunderstanding are significant problems. Despite these hazards, they are optimistic about the contributions AI can make to health care and believes the benefits will eventually outweigh the dangers, if they don’t already. D Microplastics have been discovered in the human heart and its innermost tissues (最内层组织) for the first time. While the health effects of this are still unknown, the new study is yet another reminder of how widespread the world’s plastic problem has become within just a century. In the new study, scientists in China collected cardiac (心脏的) tissue samples from 15 patients undergoing heart operations, as well as blood samples taken both pre-operation and post-operation. Using a number of different imaging techniques, the team “detected tens to thousands of individual microplastic pieces in most tissue samples”, according to the news. While it’s clear that operations did introduce microplastics, there was also evidence that the foreign plastics were fixed firmly in the tissues before the patients were laid on the operating table. For starters, all of the blood samples contained microplastics. The blood samples taken post-operation contained microplastics of a smaller size and had more diverse types of plastics. This suggests that some microplastics got into the body during the operation. Out of the tissue samples, the researchers found nine types of plastic in five types of heart tissues. Some of these microplastics were evidently there before any operation took place. The team identified microscopic particles of poly (聚乙烯微粒), a plastic commonly used to take over from glass, in several heart tissues, which they say “cannot be caused by accidental contact during operations”. Other types of plastic found in the samples are those widely used in clothing, food containers, building and construction. “The detection of microplastics in a living body is alarming, and more studies are necessary to study why the microplastics appear in the cardiac tissues and the long-term effects of microplastics after the cardiac operation,” the study authors write in their conclusion. The impact of microplastics on animal health is not widely agreed upon nor fully understood, although evidence is starting to show that it has a harmful effect, unsurprisingly. 12. What do we know about the 15 patients? A. They had blood diseases. B. They offered images of samples. C. They had heart problems. D. They suffered from microplastics. 13. Why did blood samples taken post-operation contain more types of plastics? A. Detection techniques were improved. B. Some blood samples were polluted. C. Microplastics changed into more types. D. Operations introduced new microplastics. 14. What is the author’s attitude towards the detection of microplastics in cardiac tissues? A. Concerned B. Indifferent C. Thrilled D. Enthusiastic 15. What is the best title for the text? A. Microplastics Are Proven Harmful to Human Health B. Microplastics Found in Human Heart Tissues C. Heart Surgery Is the Main Source of Microplastics D. New Imaging Techniques Remove Microplastics from Blood 【答案】12. C 13. D 14. A 15. 根据第二段中“In the new study, scientists in China collected cardiac (心脏的) tissue samples from 15 patients undergoing heart operations, as well as blood samples taken both pre-operation and post-operation.(在这项新研究中,中国科学家从15名接受心脏手术的患者身上采集心脏组织样本,还有术前和术后的血液样本。)” 根据第三段中“The blood samples taken post-operation contained microplastics of a smaller size and had more diverse types of plastics. This suggests that some microplastics got into the body during the operation.(术后采集的血液样本中含有尺寸更小的微塑料,塑料种类也更多样。 根据第一段中“While the health effects of this are still unknown, the new study is yet another reminder of how widespread the world’s plastic problem has become within just a century.(虽然它对健康的影响尚不清楚,但这项新研究再次提醒我们,仅仅一个世纪,全球塑料问题已经变得多么普遍。)” 根据第一段中“Microplastics have been discovered in the human heart and its innermost tissues (最内层组织) for the first time.(微塑料首次在人类心脏及其最内层组织中被发现。)” “Microplastics Found in Human Heart Tissues(在人体心脏组织中发现微塑料)”符合题意。 Picture this: everyone’s gathered around the table, plates full, but half the family stares at glowing screens instead of each other’s faces. This scene plays out in countless homes across America every single night. What started as occasional phone checks has evolved into overall device dependency that follows families right to their dining table. Remember when meals meant storytelling, laughter, and actual eye contact? ____16____ Before smartphones existed, families naturally gathered around the dining table to share their day, discuss plans, and enjoy each other’s company. ____17____ Research shows that the average American family spends less than 20 minutes eating dinner together, with much of that time spent interacting with screens. The cell phone transformed from a communication tool into a dining companion. ____18____ Unlike real conversation, screens demand attention without giving anything meaningful back to the family dynamic. The physical health consequences are equally concerning. Mindless eating becomes the norm when attention splits between food and screens. People eat faster, chew less, and often consume more calories without realizing it. ____19____ Creating a phone-free zone can transform food time from a rushed obligation into genuine family time that everyone looks forward to. When screens disappear from the table, something magical happens: People start noticing each other again. ____20____ Even the food tastes better when everyone is fully engaged in what they’re eating. A. Frankly, it’s not great company. B. Those days weren’t that long ago. C. That dinner wasn’t unique, and that’s the problem. D. Dinner conversations teach children essential skills. E. Technology has slowly but surely entered our dining spaces. F. Conversations flow more naturally and laughter comes more easily. G. This habit contributes to poor digestion and unhealthy eating patterns. 16. B 17. E 18. A 19. G 20. But Jack was burning the midnight oil, busy with his revision work, determined to improve his grades. A wave of tiredness crept over him; he stretched his arms and drank another cup of coffee. He felt refreshed and continued to work hard. He knew he couldn't let his recent failures define him. That morning, as the test papers were handed back, Jack was shocked to find that he got the only D in his class. Though he didn’t do well in his lessons, the unexpected grade hit him hard. Most of his classmates got their desired grades, their laughter and chatter feeling like a painful reminder of his failure. He couldn't help but recall that he always passed exams with C, and in his parents' eyes, he was a total failure. This painful reality weighed heavily on him. Staring at the glaring D grade on his paper, Jack felt he should do something. He couldn’t continue down this path. He needed to change. From that day, he was more focused and eager to learn in class. He raised his hand more often, contributing more, and his assignments showed his hard work and dedication. His teacher, Ms. Green, impressed by his efforts, praised him in front of the class. His classmates started to see him differently too, giving him friendly smiles and support, which boosted his confidence. Everyone noticed a big change in Jack, except his busy parents. After a month of hard work, the day of the next exam finally arrived. Jack walked into the examination hall with confidence, feeling well prepared and ready to face the challenges ahead. As he worked through the test, everything seemed to flow smoothly. When the bell rang, he felt he could make it this time. Two days later, the results were announced. Jack was excited to see his amazing grade — B+. “Well done, Jack! We are all so proud of you!” Ms. Green said. I promise, I didn’t cheat.”   Jack phoned Ms. Green, hoping she could remove his parents’ doubts. “Ms. Green, my parents are skeptical about my B+ grade. Could you please talk to them? They don’t believe I could have improved so much on my own.” Ms. Green assured Jack that she would have a heart-to-heart talk with his parents, emphasizing his hard work and dedication. A. Virtues. B. Risks. C. Signs. D. Reminders. New Imaging Techniques Remove Microplastics from Blood Picture this: everyone’s gathered around the table, plates full, but half the family stares at glowing screens instead of each other’s faces. This scene plays out in countless homes across America every single night. Green said. After school, Jack rushed out, eager to show his parents his B+ grade. “Mom and Dad, I have good news to share!” _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Jack phoned Ms. Green, hoping she could remove his parents’ doubts. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
