It focuses on core strength while training the body as an inseparable one.(与某些类型的运动不同,普拉提不会过度发展身体的某些部位,而忽略其他部位。 故选A项。 由文章第一段“Do you want to work out to stay healthy? The following are some home workouts you can try.(你想锻炼身体保持健康吗? Soon, you’ re going to have to move out!” cried my neighbor upon seeing the largest tomato plant known to mankind, or at least known in my neighborhood. One tiny 9-inch plant, bought for $1. 25 in the spring, has already taken over much of my rose bed, covering much of other plants, and is well on its way to the front door. Roses require a good deal of care, and if it weren’t for the pleasure they give, it wouldn’ t be worth the work. As it is, I have a garden full of sweet-smelling roses for most of the year. Bushes must be pruned (剪枝) in early spring, leaving ugly woody branches until the new growth appears a few weeks later. It was the space available in the garden that led me into planting just one little tomato plant. A big mistake. Soil conditions made just perfect for roses turn out to be even more perfect for tomatoes. The daily watering coupled with full sun and regular fertilizing (施肥) have turned the little plant into a tall bush. The cage I placed around it as the plant grew has long disappeared under the thick leaves. Now the task I face in harvesting the fruit is twofold. First, I have to find the red ones among the leaves, which means I almost have to stand on my head, and once found I have to reach down and under, pick the tomatoes and withdraw (缩回) my full fist without dropping the prize so dearly won. I found two full-blown white roses completely hidden as I picked tomatoes in June. But they were weak and the leaves already yellow for lack of light. Here I am faced with a painful small decision: To tear up a wonderful and productive tomato plant that offers up between ten and twenty ripe sweet tomatoes each day or say goodbye to several expensive and treasured roses. Like Scarlett in Gone With the Wind, I’ ll think about that tomorrow. 4. What are the requirements for the healthy growth of rose? A. Frequent pruning and fertilizing. B. A lot of care and the right soil. C. Tomato plants grown alongside. D. Cages placed around the roots. 5. The writer planted the tomato plant because______. A. there was room for it in the garden B. the soil was just right for it C. it cost only $1. 25 D. the roses’ branches needed to be covered 6. This year the writer’s roses were_______. A. removed from the rose bed B. largely hidden under the tomato plant C. mostly damaged by too much sunlight D. picked along with the tomatoes 7. By saying “the prize so dearly won” in Paragraph 5, the writer wants to_________. A. express her liking for the roses B. show the hardship of growing the roses C. show the difficulty in picking the tomatoes D. express her care for the tomatoes 【答案】4. B 5. A 6. B 7. 根据第三段中的“Roses require a good deal of care, and if it weren’t for the pleasure they give, it wouldn’ t be worth the work. 从第三段倒数第二句“It was the space available in the garden that led me into planting just one little tomato plant. 故选A项。 根据第二段“One tiny 9-inch plant, bought for $1. 25 in the spring, has already taken over much of my rose bed, covering much of other plants, and is well on its way to the front door. 根据本段首句中the task可知,作者将摘西红柿看成是一项“任务”;以及“First, I have to find the red ones among the leaves, which means I almost have to stand on my head, and once found I have to reach down and under, pick the tomatoes and withdraw (缩回) my full fist without dropping the prize so dearly won. C Are there any lakes in your hometown? What color are they? Around one-third of the world’s lakes are blue, according to a study in September 2022. But global warming may lead them to turn green or even brown. Xiao Yang from Southern Methodist University in the US and his team analyzed the color of over 85,000 lakes based on satellite photos taken from 2013 to 2020. They found that lakes in places with cooler average summer air temperatures — below 19°C — were more likely to be blue than lakes in places with warmer summers. The color of a lake is in part decided by what’s in the water. In warmer lakes, algae (藻) and phytoplankton (浮游植物) develop easily. These microbes (微生物) contain colors from green to brown and red, giving the lake a different color. Water molecules (分子) absorb the long wavelengths of sunlight, such as red, orange, and yellow, leaving behind the shorter ones presenting green and mostly blue. Simply put, the cleaner the water, the bluer it looks. If the temperature continues to rise with climate change unchecked, one in 10 blue lakes might change color, according to the study. Lakes serve as a vital part of nature, with their color being one of the oldest ways to determine the health of an ecosystem. Humans get their drinking water from lakes, streams and ground water. As lakes become greener, people may lose lots of clean water. Because of this, treating the water of such lakes becomes more expensive. For lake animals, the thriving (茁壮成长) of algae and phytoplankton in greener lakes can provide more food resources. However, an increase in these microbes may cause lake animals to die for lack of oxygen. 8. What decides the color of lakes in part according to the text? A. Microbes. B. Lake animals. C. Clean water itself. D. Shortages of oxygen. 9. What can we learn from the study? A. More microbes symbolize cleaner water. B. Lakes in warmer places tend to be green. C. Researchers took photos of over 85,000 lakes. D. The higher the temperature, the greener the lakes must be. 10. What does the underlined word “unchecked” in Paragraph 3 probably mean? A. Prevented. B. Uncontrolled. C. Quickened. D. Unnoticed. 11. What‘s the main idea of the last paragraph? A. The significance of lakes. B. The way to protect the lakes. C. The potential impact of greener lakes. D. The influence of global warming on people. A 9. B 10. B 11. 根据第三段中“The color of a lake is in part decided by what’s in the water. In warmer lakes, algae (藻) and phytoplankton (浮游植物) develop easily. These microbes (微生物) contain colors from green to brown and red, giving the lake a different color.(湖泊的颜色部分取决于水中的物质。 根据第一段“Around one-third of the world's lakes are blue, according to a study in September 2022. But global warming may lead them to turn green or even brown.(根据2022年9月的一项研究,世界上大约三分之一的湖泊是蓝色的,但全球变暖可能导致它们变成绿色,甚至棕色)”可推测,越温暖的地方,湖水更容易变成绿色。 根据第三段中“If the temperature continues to rise with climate change unchecked, one in 10 blue lakes might change color, according to the study.(根据这项研究,如果随着气候变化 unchecked,气温继续上升,十分之一的蓝色湖泊可能会改变颜色。)” 根据最后一段中“Humans get their drinking water from lakes, streams and ground water. As lakes become greener, people may lose lots of clean water. Because of this, treating the water of such lakes becomes more expensive. For lake animals, the thriving (茁壮成长) of algae and phytoplankton in greener lakes can provide more food resources. However, an increase in these microbes may cause lake animals to die for lack of oxygen.(人类从湖泊、溪流和地下水中获取饮用水。 D Scientists from Georgia Tech have developed a new robot named ESTHER (Experimental Sport Tennis Wheelchair Robot), which can move around the court and even return human serves. The team believes the robot could serve as a training partner (搭档) for professional players in the future, lowering the pressure of training with another human. The robot is the brainchild of Georgia Tech’s Matthew Gombolay, professor of robotics in the School of Interactive Computing. He wanted to develop a better training challenge than a ball feeder that stays in one place, one that would act like an always on-call partner or even team up with someone in doubles matches. The result is ESTHER, an adapted wheelchair tennis chair that can race to balls at ten metres per second and probably outplay a human. Mr Gombolay explains: “The wheelchair has the ability to rapidly move around the court and get into position (恰当位置) to hit a ground stroke (击落地球). ESTHER can move up to two metres after a ball is struck to hit a successful return, which is comparable to the longest distance moved by human players for 80 per cent of shots (击球).” The robot was named in homage to well-known wheelchair tennis player Esther Vergeer, who held the world No. 1 position in women’s wheelchair tennis for almost 13 years straight. The team placed a network of cameras around a tennis court and used computer vision algorithms (视觉算法) to help ESTHER recognise an incoming tennis ball. Using cameras from different positions, they could know where the ball is in the air and feed this information to ESTHER. The team reached a breakthrough when they successfully and continually programmed ESTHER to track the tennis ball coming toward it and to hit a return. ESTHER will now be developed to act as a highly-skilled tennis player. 12. What is ESTHER able to do? A. Return a shot. B. Clean up a court. C. Push a wheelchair. D. Control a ball feeder. 13. What does the underlined part “in homage to” in paragraph 5 mean? A. In search of. B. In honour of. C. As a result of. D. With the help of. 14. In what way are cameras helpful to ESTHER? A. They improve its vision. B. They direct it to the ball. C. They help it stay in position. D. They picture unexpected things in the air. 15. What is the best title for the text? A. Athletes in wheelchairs B. An all-purpose robot at home C. Rules are changing for tennis courts D. A robot moves around the tennis court 【答案】12. A 13. B 14. B 15. Why was the only empty desk next to me? I shrank in my seat. With Sarah sitting beside me, the morning seemed to be ages. When the break bell rang, Mrs. Wagner asked, “Natalie, would you play with Sarah? She could need a friend.” How am I supposed to play with Sarah? I wondered. She can’t even walk. No way! At lunchtime, I hung behind. “Mrs. Wagner,” I asked, “can... can I have my seat changed?” “Why?” asked Mrs. Wagner. I stared at the floor and murmured, “Well, maybe someone else would like to sit by Sarah.” Mrs. Wagner placed her hand on my shoulder. “Sarah not only has special needs, she has feelings, too. Give it a try.” My eyes stung. This wasn’t fair! I didn’t want to be Sarah’s friend. And if Mrs. Wagner didn’t care about my feelings, why should I care about Sarah’s? All afternoon, I did my best to ignore Sarah. I only glanced at her once and caught her smiling. At three o’clock, Mrs. Wagner said to the class, “Time to put on your sports shoes.” As I bent over to tie my shoes, I studied Sarah’ s. There wasn’t a single scuff(磨损) mark on them. I wondered what it would be like to never walk, never run, never climb a tree or ride a bike. My throat felt tight. Mrs. Wagner tapped my back. “Natalie, would you please help Sarah be a part of PE class?” This time I nodded my head. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ “What a fun class!” Sarah said with a laugh. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 This time I nodded my head. I walked over to Sarah and asked softly, ‌“Would you like me to push you to the playground?” Her face lit up with a bright smile. ‌“Yes, please,” she said. I pushed her wheelchair carefully down the hallway, and she told me about her old school and her love of drawing. When we reached the playground, some classmates came over, curious and friendly. I introduced Sarah to them, and soon she was laughing and chatting. Watching her happy face, I felt something warm inside me. Mrs. Wagner was right — Sarah had feelings, just like me. ‌“What a fun class!” Sarah said with a laugh. I nodded, smiling back at her. I helped her join the game by passing her the ball, and she cheered loudly for our team. After school, she said, ‌“Thank you, Natalie. You’re a good friend.” I realized that being kind wasn’t as hard as I had thought. From that day on, I sat with Sarah at lunch and walked with her between classes. I learned that friendship doesn’t depend on what someone can or cannot do — it depends on a heart willing to reach out. 词汇激活: 行为类 ①推:push/wheel ②依靠:depend on/rely on 情绪类 ①友善的:friendly/amicable ②好奇的:curious/inquisitive  【点睛】[高分句型1] Watching her happy face, I felt something warm inside me. A. express her liking for the roses B. show the hardship of growing the roses C. show the difficulty in picking the tomatoes D. express her care for the tomatoes C Are there any lakes in your hometown? D Scientists from Georgia Tech have developed a new robot named ESTHER (Experimental Sport Tennis Wheelchair Robot), which can move around the court and even return human serves. A robot moves around the tennis court Having the skills to keep good emotional health is important if we want to succeed in our lives. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
