Play a game: Guess your role model. Students write their role models’ names on the card. Then teacher collects their cards and put them in a box. One student picks up a card in the box and describes what the person on the card has achieved. Other students guess the name of the person according to the description. 2. Show some pictures of I. M. Pei and Wang Yaping and ask who they are. And then play two short videos to introduce the background information about these two famous people. Step 2 Work on 3a 1. Read the conversation with the questions: “Who do Yaming, Chen Jie and Adam admire? What are their reasons?” Check the answers. Yaming admires I. M. Pei because he designed the glass pyramid at the Louvre Museum. Chen Jie admires Wang Yaping because she is full of courage and wisdom and she was also the first woman to walk in space and teach a live class from space. Adam admires his father because his father supports and encourages his exchange study. 2. Read the conversation again and complete the chart. Check the answers. Step 3 Work on 3b 1. Play the audio and ask students to imitate the conversation. 2. Ask several groups of students to roleplay the conversation. 3. Teacher gives some evaluations based on pronunciation, fluency and accuracy and corrects mistakes when necessary. 4. Play a game: sentence relay race. One student says: It’s creative of I. M. Pei to … Another student completes the sentence. More example as follows: It’s brave of Wang Yaping to… The pairs who make more sentences will win the race. Step 4 Work on 3c 1. Divide students into several groups and discuss who you admire and why with the following structure. The words and expressions can also be used in 3c. A: Who is the person you admire the most? B: I admire… A: Why does he/she inspire you? B: Because it is/was…of/for… 2. Invite some groups to act out the conversations before class. 3. Teacher and the rest of students vote for the best group according to their pronunciation accuracy, fluency, as well as content. Step 5 Summary 1. Review the core vocabularies and sentence patterns of this lesson with students, and summarize the common expressions for describing people’s qualities and achievements. 2. Guide students to think about: “Who inspires you in your daily life? Why?” them to learn from these role models. Step 6 Homework 1. Practise reading the conversation in 3a. 2.
