B 19. C 20. A
I have had great interest in cooking since I was 10. I liked doing experiments in the kitchen when I was young. I studied chemistry at school, and I found that both chemistry and cooking were to put things together and create surprise. Cooking makes me younger. I’ve been working as an Italian chef in countries like Italy and the Netherlands. I won’t give up my research on Italian food. It has already lasted for 15 years, because it’s such a job that you never say “I know it all”. I also wish that cooking can be my lifelong career, because it makes me keep on studying new things every day and helps me develop my cooking skills.
Among various Western foods, I like Italian food most. As the start of Western-style food, Italian food is famous for its fine dishes, because it’s not only delicious but also beautiful. Let’s compare it with French food. We all know cooking French food has many different steps and it takes us a lot of time for preparation. On the contrary, Italian food is simple but tasty. Pizza, pasta, seafood and dessert are worldwide famous.

At the age of 16, Lasse Stolley from Germany went out for a change after graduation from junior high school. Little did he know that this change would take him farther than 500,000 kilometers — all on trains.
Inspired by a movie he had watched online, Stolley bought a Bahncard 100, a ticket that allows unlimited (无限制的) travel on all Deutsche Bahn trains in Germany for a year. But Stolley didn’t just travel on those trains. He made his home on trains, living there full-time. During the day, he took trips and at night, he slept across the seats on high-speed trains.
“I can decide every day where I want to go, whether to the Alps, to a big city or to the sea,” Stolley said.
Each morning, Stolley would check the train connections for the day, and decide what journeys he would take based on the weather and his mood (心情). He might stop off at a swimming pool for a shower, or enjoy the views with a hike between train rides.
While he didn’t pay rent, Stolley said that he had spent around $10,000 a year on living expenses, including his $6,400 train pass and entry cost to things like swimming pools. But since Stolley was a “Platinum” Deutsche Bahn customer, he could eat from Deutsche Bahn for free.
To cover his extra cost, he made a buck on the move by working as a programmer from his laptop In 2023 alone, Stolley spent over 3,700 hours on trains. He also took trains across Europe with an Interrail pass, and travelled as far as Ankara in Turkey. All of his adventures were recorded on his online blog, named “Life on the Train”.
24. What drove Stolley’s interest in travelling by train?
A. A lesson. B. A book. C. A ticket. D. A film.
25. Why was Stolley’s journey special?
A. He lived on trains. B. He never got off the same train.
C. His train journey lasted over a year. D. He didn’t spend any money.
26. What do the underlined words “a buck” in the last paragraph refer to?
A. A choice. B. Paper. C. A difference. D. Money.
27. Which word can best describe Stolley?
A. Honest. B. Adventurous. C. Easygoing. D. Warmhearted.
D 25. A 26. D 27. B

根据最后一段中的“To cover his extra cost (为了支付额外的费用)”和“by working as a programmer from his laptop (通过在笔记本电脑上做程序员)”可推断,为了支付额外的费用,他在做程序员挣钱。A. A choice一个选择;B. paper纸张;C. a difference差异;D. money钱。
根据最后一段“In 2023 alone, Stolley spent over 3,700 hours on trains. He also took trains across Europe with an Interrail pass, and travelled as far as Ankara in Turkey. All of his adventures were recorded on his online blog, named “Life on the Train”. (仅在2023年,斯托利就在火车上度过了3700多个小时。他还用欧洲铁路通票乘火车穿越欧洲,最远到达了土耳其的安卡拉。他所有的冒险经历都被记录在他的在线博客上,名为“火车上的生活”)”可推断,Stolley是敢于冒险的人。故选B。

Is it worth buying organic (有机的) food? Organic food is increasingly popular nowadays. Customers have been willing to pay up to twice more for organic goods. However, a study led by researchers at Stanford University says that organic products aren’t necessarily healthier, and that they’re no less likely to suffer from disease caused by bacteria (细菌), either.
The latest results, from Annals of Internal Medicine, suggest that buyers may be wasting their money. “We did not find something showing that organic food is healthier,” says Dr. Crystal Smith-Spangler from Stanford University. “So customers shouldn’t think that one type of food has a lower risk or is safer.”
For their new study, Smith-Spangler and her colleagues carried out a review of research. They included 17 studies that compared health effects between people eating organic food with those who have traditional food, and 223 studies that were about the nutritional (营养的) content of the food.
While the researchers found little difference in the nutritional content, they did find that organic fruit and vegetables were 20% less likely to have chemicals remaining on the surfaces. Neither organic nor traditional food showed levels of chemicals were high enough to go beyond food safety standards. And both organic and traditional meats, such as chicken and pork, were equally likely to be harmed by bacteria at very low rates. The researchers did find that organic milk and chicken contained higher levels of healthy fat which were also found in fish and could help reduce the risk of heart disease. However, these nutritional differences were too small.
Organic food is produced with fewer chemicals and more natural-growing practices, but that doesn’t always translate into a healthier product. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) states that “whether you buy organic food or not, finding the freshest food may have the biggest effect on taste”. Fresh food is at least as good as anything marketed as organic food.
28. What does the new study of organic products show?
A. They are much healthier. B. They grow without chemicals.
C. They don’t contain bacteria. D. They aren’t actually safer.
29. How did Smith-Spangler and her colleagues do the study?
A. By reviewing others’ studies. B. By testing research results.
C. By researching food’s nutrition. D. By studying customers’ choices.
30. What can we infer from Paragraph 4?
A. Organic foods are much more nutritious than traditional ones.
B. Traditional meats have a higher chance of bacterial infection.
C. Chemical levels in both foods stay within safety standards.
D. People should choose organic food for its greater nutrition.
31. What is USDA’s attitude toward organic food?
A. Doubtful. B. Uncertain. C. Unconcerned. D. Supportive.
D 29. A 30. C 31. A
根据第一段中“However, a study led by researchers at Stanford University says that organic products aren’t necessarily healthier, and that they’re no less likely to suffer from disease caused by bacteria, either.(然而,斯坦福大学研究人员主导的一项研究表明,有机产品不一定更健康,它们因细菌致病的概率也不会更低。)”
根据第三段中“For their new study, Smith-Spangler and her colleagues carried out a review of research.(为了完成这项新研究,史密斯-斯潘格勒和她的同事们对过往的相关研究进行了梳理回顾。)”
根据第四段中“Neither organic nor traditional food showed levels of chemicals were high enough to go beyond food safety standards.(无论是有机食品还是传统食品,其表面的化学物质残留含量都没有高到超出食品安全标准的程度。)”
Department of Agriculture (USDA) states that “whether you buy organic food or not, finding the freshest food may have the biggest effect on taste”.(美国农业部表示:“无论你是否购买有机食品,挑选到最新鲜的食物才是对口感影响最大的因素”。)”
D
Grown-ups are often surprised by how well they remember something they learned as children but have never practiced ever since. A man who has not had a chance to go swimming for years can still swim as well as ever when he gets back in the water. He can get on a bicycle after many years and still ride away. He can play catch and hit a ball as well as his son. A mother who has not thought about the words for years can teach her daughter the poem that begins “Twinkle, twinkle, little star” or remember the story of Cinderella or Goldilocks and the Three Bears.
One explanation is the law of overlearning, which can be stated as follows: Once we have learned something, additional learning trials increase the length of time we will remember it. In childhood we usually continue to practice such skills as swimming, bicycle riding, and playing basketball long after we have learned them. We continue to listen to and remind ourselves of words such as “Twinkle, twinkle, little star” and childhood tales such as Cinderella and Goldilocks. We not only learn but overlearn.
The multiplication tables (乘法口诀表) are an exception to the general rule that we forget rather quickly the things that we learn in school, because they are another of the things we overlearn in childhood.
The law of overlearning explains why cramming (突击学习) for an examination, though it may result in a passing grade, is not a satisfactory way to learn a college course. By cramming, a student may learn the subject well enough to get by on the examination, but he is likely soon to forget almost everything he learned. A little overlearning, on the other hand, is really necessary for one’s future development.
32. What is the main idea of Paragraph 1?
A. People remember well what they learned in childhood.
B. Children have a better memory than grown-ups.
C. Poem reading is a good way to learn words.
D. Stories for children are easy to remember.
33. The author explains the law of overlearning by ________.
A. presenting research findings
B. using examples
C. making a comparison
D. giving general rules
34. According to the author, being able to use multiplication tables is ________.
A. a result of overlearning B. a special case of cramming
C. a skill to deal with math problems D. a basic step towards advanced studies
35. What is the author’s opinion on cramming?
A. It’s helpful for future development.
B. It’s possible to result in poor memory.
C. It leads to failure in college exams.
D. It’s helpful only in a limited way.
A 33. B 34. A 35. D
根据第一段中“Grown-ups are often surprised by how well they remember something they learned as children but have never practiced ever since.(成年人常常会惊讶于自己能清楚记得儿时学过却再也没有练习过的内容。)”
根据第二段中“One explanation is the law of overlearning, which can be stated as follows: Once we have learned something, additional learning trials increase the length of time we will remember it. In childhood we usually continue to practice such skills as swimming, bicycle riding, and playing basketball long after we have learned them. We continue to listen to and remind ourselves of words such as “Twinkle, twinkle, little star” and childhood tales such as Cinderella and Goldilocks. We not only learn but overlearn.(一种解释是过度学习定律,其内容可以表述如下:一旦我们学会某样知识或技能,额外的反复练习会延长我们记住它的时间。在童年时期,我们学会游泳、骑自行车、打篮球这类技能之后,通常还会持续练习很久。我们会反复聆听、回想“一闪一闪小星星”这类歌谣词句,以及《灰姑娘》《金发姑娘和三只熊》等童年故事。我们不只是学会,而是进行了过度学习。)”可知,作者通过多个生活中的具体实例来解释过度学习定律。
【34题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段中“The multiplication tables are an exception to the general rule that we forget rather quickly the things that we learn in school, because they are another of the things we overlearn in childhood.(乘法口诀表打破了我们在学校学的内容很快就会遗忘的普遍规律,因为它是我们在童年阶段进行过度学习的又一个例子。)”
根据第四段中“By cramming, a student may learn the subject well enough to get by on the examination, but he is likely soon to forget almost everything he learned.(通过突击学习,学生或许能把知识点掌握到足以通过考试的程度,但他大概率很快就会忘掉几乎所有学过的内容。)”

根据空前的“But there are times in our lives such as when we have recently moved into a new town, or changed our schools or jobs. Such changes often leave us without a friend. (但是,在我们的生活中,有些时候,比如我们最近搬到了一个新的城市,或者换了学校或工作。这样的变化常常使我们失去朋友)”可知,搬到新地方会使我们失去原来的朋友,结合空后的“But for many of us, the process is difficult and requires courage. Here are some helpful suggestions on how to make and keep friends. (但对我们中的许多人来说,这个过程是困难的,需要勇气。这里有一些关于如何交朋友和保持友谊的有用的建议)”可知,此处指出在新环境中交朋友是困难的,但是有一些有用的建议。由此可推知,空处应该指出人们搬到新地方会失去原来朋友的解决办法——即交新朋友,E选项“Making new friends comes easy for some people.(交新朋友对有些人来说很容易)”讲述的内容承接上文的内容,且和下文是转折关系。故选E项。
【37题详解】
根据空前的“Starting a conversation is the second most important step in making new friends. (开始交谈是结交新朋友的第二重要步骤)”可知,交朋友时,开始交谈是第二重要的步骤,所以C选项“Don’t wait to be spoken to.(不要等着别人跟你说话)”讲述的内容衔接空前的内容,且与本段的主题句“Start a conversation.(开始交谈)”内容吻合,符合上下文语境。故选C项。
【38题详解】
分析语篇可知,此处是本段主题句,与其它段落的主题句一致,均为祈使句,根据空后的“Choosing friends with common interests is important in building friendship as these interests always bring you and your friend together. Hanging out will always be a pleasant experience. (选择有共同兴趣的朋友对于建立友谊很重要,因为这些兴趣总是把你和你的朋友联系在一起。出去玩永远是一种愉快的经历)”可知,本段指出交朋友时要和朋友一起做事情,所以B选项“Do things together.(一起做事)”能概括本段主旨。故选B项。
【39题详解】
根据空前的“However, try not to press your new friend with calls, messages or visits as this would likely wear him or her out and finally you may lose your friend.
根据空前的“The best way to enjoy your friendship is to allow your friends to be themselves. (享受友谊的最好方式就是让你的朋友做他们自己)”可知,要让朋友作自己,结合空后的“Try not to change them from who they are to what you want them to be. (尽量不要改变他们,让他们成为你想要他们成为的人)”指出了我们该做什么和不该做什么,由此可知,空处也应是指出我们的做法,D选项“Try not to find fault with your friend.(不要挑你朋友的毛病)”讲述的是不要挑朋友的毛病,承接空前的让朋友做自己,且与空后讲述的内容吻合。故选D项。

第二节(满分25分)
67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
At the beginning of the new term, a teacher at Ringrose Kindergarten decided to do something different to choose “the Excellent Kid” of this term. One day the teacher brought a bag of boiled seeds (种子), and then called the kids together, and said, “I am going to give each one of you a seed today, a very special seed. You are to plant the seed, water it and come back here at the end of this term with what you have grown from the seed, and the one I choose will be ‘the Excellent Kid’.”
Like the others, a boy named James received a seed. He went home and told his mother the story excitedly. She helped him get a pot (花盆) and soil, and he planted the seed. Every day he would water it and watch to see if it had grown. After about three weeks, some of the other kids began to talk about their seeds and the plants that were beginning to grow.
James kept checking his seed, but nothing grew. Four weeks, five weeks went by, still nothing. By now, others were all talking about their plants, but James didn’t have a plant and he felt like a failure.
Two months went by, and there was still nothing in James’ pot. He just knew he had ruined his seed. Everyone else had tall plants, but he had nothing. James didn’t say anything. However, he just kept watering and fertilizing (给……施肥) the soil, expecting the seed to grow.
A term finally went by. All the kids brought their plants to the teacher. James told his mother he wasn’t going to take an empty pot. But she encouraged him to go, and to be honest about what happened. James felt anxious because it would be the most awkward moment of his life, but he knew his mother was right.
注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右;
He took his empty pot to the classroom.

He took his empty pot to the classroom. Ashamed and uneasy, James held his empty pot tightly, his eyes falling on others’ pots with various plants. He took a deep breath, gathered his courage and stepped up to the teacher with great caution, murmuring “sorry” as tears fell from his eyes. James stood there as the other kids laughed at him. Everyone was eagerly expecting the announcement of the winner when the teacher cleared her throat and declared, “The Excellent Kid is James!”
All the other kids looked at the teacher in surprise. Whispers spread throughout the classroom as the whole class was in confusion. At that moment, the teacher patted James on the shoulder gently and explained, “Those seeds are all boiled, and they are a test of honesty.” Upon hearing this, most of the kids lowered their heads with shame. It was then that the sad mood faded away from James’ heart, and a sweet smile appeared on his face, for James enjoyed being honest.

D. Supportive.
