The sharp differences between these areas, once part of the British and French empires, made it difficult for her to fit in, which led her to examine her own identity — who she truly was. Seeking guidance, she turned to her grandfather who also felt disconnected from his own culture. He expressed sadness about what the Nso people had lost both culturally and materially, including Ngonnso statue. Ngonnso was the founder of the Nso Kingdom dating back to the 14th century. The statue was an important cultural symbol for the Nso. However, it was taken by the Germans in 1902 and has been housed in Berlin’s Ethnological Museum ever since. Inspired by her grandfather’s desire and saddened by the loss of culture, Njobati made a promise to bring back the statue. She believed it would not only achieve her grandfather’s wish but connect her with her Nso heritage again. Njobati did many researches about the statue and former unsuccessful attempts. She realized that return was actually about facing the colonial (殖民主义的) past. Njobati decided to try differently. To gather support online and offline, Njobati began a grassroots campaign. She organized meetings in community halls and churches, met people one-on-one, and used the power of social media. Through Twitter, she established contact with the Ethnological Museum. Njobati’s tireless efforts paid off. She was told that a decision about Ngonnso statue was coming, which was an important moment for her. “Finally, this is happening. Not just for me, but for the Nso people, and for Cameroon,” she cried. “This also lends a hand to other communities that are seeking justice for stolen cultural relics.” 24. What made Njobati decide to bring back the Ngonnso statue? A. Her respect for the founder. B. Her experience in attending university. C. Her interest in colonial history. D. Her desire to reconnect with Nso culture. 25. What did Njobati do to gain support for her campaign? A. She did wide and complete researches. B. She contacted the Ethnological Museum. C. She turned to her grandfather for guidance. D. She organized meetings and used social media. 26. What does “this” refer to in the last paragraph? A. The fight for the statue. B. The grassroots support. C. The return of the statue. D. The grassroots campaign. 27. Which of the following could best describe Njobati? A. Confident and hard-working. B. Determined and strategic. C. But as we worry about teens who are struggling, we can’t ignore another mounting effect — the burdens that are shouldered by their friends and peers in an “always on” world. We have studied teens and tech for over a decade. Their networks are ever-expanding, in no small part because there’s a sense that being nice means accepting fellow requests from acquaintances and friends-of-friends. And it’s not just staying connected — it’s keeping up with what others post, too. Social media platforms thus make it technically possible to maintain more relationships than we are historically actually wired to track and manage. The result is an overwhelming wave of social information. It’s especially intense for adolescents whose developmental sensitivities drive them to care deeply about what their peers are doing and thinking. Significant stress comes with trying to be a “good friend” in the age of social media. Friendship requires both public and behind-the-scenes support. Even before a social media post is made public, close friends can be pulled into photo selection, editing, and final examination. Besides, they need to respond in the right way and in the right amount of time, which differs from one relationship to another. Replying too quickly can be seen as over-eager, especially when the friendship is new or not close. But when it’s a close friend, too long a lag (延迟) can be hurtful. The qualities that are key to building or breaking friendships are actually the same as they’ve always been: mutual (相互的) sharing of joys and sorrows, a give and take of acceptance and support, and an ability to weather and resolve conflicts. But technologies have transformed how friendships play out. Social media increases the burdens that come along with being a good friend. Too often, these dynamics hit teens hard in ways that are ignored by adults. And that is what should be changed with the help of parents, schools and other parts of society. 28. What makes teenagers' networks continue to expand? A. The pressure to be nice. B. The requests of their parents. C. The need to meet more people. D. The burden of living independently. 29. What does the author think of being a good friend in the age of social media? A. Risk-taking. B. Time-saving. C. Challenging. D. Exciting. 30. What should be changed according to the last paragraph? A. The influences of social media on teen friendship. B. The relations between parents and their teens. C. The conflicts between schools and parents. D. The qualities of being a teen friend. 31. What is the text mainly about? A. What makes teens become more sensitive to their peers' needs. B. How social media has made teen friendships more stressful. C. How teens nowadays gain long-standing friendships. D. Why more teens are addicted to social media. A 29. C 30. A 31. 根据第二段“Their networks are ever-expanding, in no small part because there’s a sense that being nice means accepting fellow requests from acquaintances and friends-of-friends.(他们的社交网络不断扩大,很大程度上是因为他们觉得友善意味着接受来自熟人和朋友的朋友的请求)”可知,让青少年的社交网络不断扩大的是友善的压力。故选A。 根据倒数第二段“Significant stress comes with trying to be a “good friend” in the age of social media. Friendship requires both public and behind-the-scenes support. Even before a social media post is made public, close friends can be pulled into photo selection, editing, and final examination. Besides, they need to respond in the right way and in the right amount of time, which differs from one relationship to another.(在社交媒体时代,试图成为“好朋友”会带来巨大的压力。友谊需要公开和幕后的支持。甚至在社交媒体帖子被公开之前,亲密的朋友就可以参与照片的选择、编辑和最终检查。此外,他们需要以正确的方式和适当的时间做出回应,这在不同的关系中是不同的)”可知,在社交媒体时代做一个好朋友是具有挑战性的。故选C。 【30题详解】 细节理解题。根据最后一段“But technologies have transformed how friendships play out. Social media increases the burdens that come along with being a good friend. Too often, these dynamics hit teens hard in ways that are ignored by adults. And that is what should be changed with the help of parents, schools and other parts of society.(但科技已经改变了友谊的发展方式。社交媒体增加了成为好朋友的负担。通常情况下,这些动态以被成年人忽视的方式对青少年造成了沉重的打击。在家长、学校和社会其他方面的帮助下,这种情况应该得到改变)”可知,根据最后一段,应该改变的是社交媒体对青少年友谊的影响。故选A。 通读全文,尤其是第一段的“But as we worry about teens who are struggling, we can’t ignore another mounting effect — the burdens that are shouldered by their friends and peers in an “always on” world.(但是,当我们担心那些正在挣扎的青少年时,我们不能忽视另一个日益严重的影响——在一个“永远在线”的世界里,他们的朋友和同龄人所承担的负担)”结合文章主要讲的是社交媒体是如何让青少年的友谊变得更紧张的。 B。 D Bacteria are an annoying problem for astronauts. The microorganisms(微生物) from our bodies grow uncontrollably on surfaces of the International Space Station, so astronauts spend hours cleaning them up each week. How is NASA overcoming this very tiny big problem? It’s turning to a bunch of high school kids. But not just any kids. It is depending on NASA HUNCH high school classrooms, like the one science teachers Gene Gordon and Donna Himmelberg lead at Fairport High School in Fairport, New York. HUNCH is designed to connect high school classrooms with NASA engineers. For the past two years, Gordon’s students have been studying ways to kill bacteria in zero gravity, and they think they’re close to a solution(解决方案). “We don’t give the students any breaks. They have to do it just like NASA engineers,” says Florence Gold, a project manager. “There are no tests,” Gordon says. “There is no graded homework. There almost are no grades, other than ‘Are you working towards your goal?’ Basically, it’s ‘I’ve got to produce this product and then, at the end of year, present it to NASA.’ Engineers come and really do an in-person review, and...it’s not a very nice thing at times. It’s a hard business review of your product.” Gordon says the HUNCH program has an impact(影响) on college admissions and practical life skills. “These kids are so absorbed in their studies that I just sit back. I don’t teach.” And that annoying bacteria? Gordon says his students are emailing daily with NASA engineers about the problem, readying a workable solution to test in space. 32. What do we know about the bacteria in the International Space Station? A. They are hard to get rid of. B. They lead to air pollution. C. They appear in different forms. D. They damage the instruments. 33. What is the purpose of the HUNCH program? A. To strengthen teacher-student relationships. B. To sharpen students’ communication skills. C. To allow students to experience zero gravity. D. To link space technology with school education. 34. What do the NASA engineers do for the students in the program? A. Check their product. B. Guide project designs. C. Adjust work schedules. D. Grade their homework. 35. What is the best title for the text? A. NASA: The Home of Astronauts B. Space: The Final Homework Frontier C. Nature: An Outdoor Classroom D. HUNCH: A College Admission Reform 【答案】32. A 33. D 34. A 35. Bacteria are annoying problem for astronauts. The microorganisms form our bodies grow uncontrollably on surfaces of the International Space Station, so astronauts spend hours cleaning them up each week. HUNCH is designed to connect high school classrooms with NASA engineers. For the past two years, Gordon’s students have been studying ways to kill bacteria in zero gravity, and they think they’re close to a solution(解决方案). Gordon says his students are emailing daily with NASA engineers about the problem, readying a workable solution to test in space. Engineers come and really do an in-person review, and...it’s not a very nice thing at times. It’s a hard business review of your product.” If the only reading you ever do is the novel or magazine, the speed at which you read -probably does not matter very much. Every day, their teachers gave them loads of homework and told them the test was very important and that they ought to spare no effort to perform well in it. Everyone followed the teachers’ instructions and made preparations for it, except Marc. He just turned a deaf ear to it. He thought he would rather play football than study. His mum and dad repeated the importance of revision for exams over and over again. They told him that he should be working hard preparing for the test. But the weather was sunny and he thought he had better things to do. “Shall we go to the park?” he said to his friend Huck one afternoon. “It’s a nice day. We could play football and kick around.” Huck shook his head. “I’m supposed to review my lessons,” he said. “I’m going home to do some math.” Marc was amazed. “You’d rather do math than play football?” “Math is important. Besides, my mum says she will buy me a mountain bike if I do well in the math exam.” “That’s crazy,” said Marc. Huck shrugged (耸肩) and replied, “Wait until I beat you in the test and you will watch me riding past on my mountain bike!” “You won’t beat me,” said Marc. “Oh yes, I will.” “Oh no, you won’t! That will never happen. Just wait and see!” For the first time ever, Marc wanted to perform well. He couldn’t bear it if his friend came top and he did badly. So when he got home, he opened his math book. But there was so much to do. All of a sudden, he felt like he’d forgotten everything he had learned that year! He didn’t know where to start. When his sister Lily came in, he was sitting expressionlessly by the desk, just staring out of the window. “You don’t look happy, Marc. What’s wrong?” she said. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ On the day of the exam, Marc went to school with great confidence. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】“You don’t look happy, Marc. What’s wrong?” she said. Explaining what had happened, especially the bet between him and Huck, he told Lily his decision. He wanted to make careful preparations for the exam, but ran into difficulties with math. He was at a loss what to do next. “Don’t worry! I’ll help you. Just be confident!” replied Lily. The following days, Marc worked very hard and made great progress. Gradually, his confidence grew and he could solve math problems with ease, with the instructions appearing in his brain as if the teacher was standing at his side . On the day of the exam, Marc went to school with great confidence. He met Huck in the classroom, who looked delighted as if he was bound to win. But Marc didn’t care. When the exam began, Marc answered all the questions as best as he could. Several days later, the result came out. It turned out that Marc did much better than Huck. “Well done,” said Mom. “We could go to see a movie to celebrate, and you can choose one.” “I think Lily should choose,” said Marc. “I would never have gained such a great achievement without her help and encouragement .” 3.词汇激活: 行为类: 选择:choose/make a choice/make an option 增加了信心:grow confidence/build up confidence/double confidence 解决:solve/work out/tackle 情绪类: 充满信心:be confident/be full of confidence 高兴的:delighted/pleased/cheerful/be overcome with delight 感到困惑:be at a loss/be confused/be confounded 【点睛】【高分句型1】 Explaining what had happened, especially the bet between him and Huck, he told Lily his decision.(运用了现在分词作状语。) 2】 He met Huck in the classroom, who looked delighted as if he was bound to win.(运用了who引导定语从句。) What did the woman do last weekend? C. Optimistic and open-minded. D. Generous and courageous. C Public health data signals a genuine crisis in adolescent mental health: rising rates of anxiety, depression, and hopelessness. D Bacteria are an annoying problem for astronauts.
